Hey Jeff, thanks for the support!..Theres ALOTTA tunes the D tuners can participate in. Vocal tunes are great since their melodys are more structured on down beats with a more even spaced beat structured. I used to teach via SKYPE 2008-2012 but got a nasty virus and really havent accessed SKYPE since. Hopefully, its safer to use now???..Message me on here if you'd like and we can talk about it in detail.
Yeah, Buck was a BIG influence on my playin early on but honestly never heard his rendition of this..Ive got the old LPs of Banjo Bandits and Pair of Fives and learned a REALLY cool tune with LOTS of tuner action called "Banjo Buck" which help me understand the different critical timing points of using the D tuners which is displayed here...Glad you enjoyed it!
Gladja like my interpretation but Im a TOTAL R brained player and only play what Im feelin at the time. Never owned any staff paper to actually "blue print" a tune? Never play it the same way twice?.. Sorry.
AHH the 80s..LOL..Used to live in the VILLE 84-86. BEEN to the opry a few times but never got to play. Thanks for stoppin by! Your playin the HARD instrument. Banjo is a piece a cake compared to THAT contraption..LOL
I got a banjo for my birthday last year. Never got past the forward backward roll. I got discouraged because I just can't see it being in any tune so it seems pointless. I really want to play tunes like this.
Oh NO Mizzy? say it aint SO? Have ya completely given up? Actually Fwd bwd roll (#1 TIMT-MITM) is very much a foundational roll used in "lilty/ bouncy" LONG spoken phrasings, who's melody candances "slowly", even at 140 bpm, unlike melody's comprised in square ( T alt), or Fwd rolls..I used to teach 81-83, then again 94- 2015, and developed my OWN method of "speaking" banjo, using the R side brain ONLY (no tab)..You learn to speak before ya knew the alphabet right? You DONT think of ALL the letters in a word before speaking it ....right?..ROLLS are only important in the beginning to get the R hand to create a flow of notes without stopping, and when breaking a tune into sections, it can be benaFISHAL to reconise the "types" of roll configs for PERSONALITY reasonings.( I could show you DRASTIC contrasting using 2 different configs in the same tune. One you would LIKE, the other would DRIVE YA NUTS, BUT???...BOTH could be "right"...LOL.. Again , its the "personality" you want to come across AS the tune candances along, either DRIVING or BOUNCING...( see what I mean?)..It makes a HUGE HUGE difference how a beginner first start "processing" whats going on , or what they "percieve" is going on which sadly, can often be totally WRONG, as far as the reality of whats supposed to take place at a more advanced stage..In other words, you may have been TRICKED..LOL..If you'd like me to make ya a file on "perception ", then using THAT to create some simple melodys, which will be the thre main foundation for figuring/creating ANY melody, no matter HOW advanced, leave me you E mail, (must be able to recieve 25mb , like g mail), and Ill make ya a couple files that will get ya off to a MUCH MUCH better start...about 70% of learning to play the 5 is GUT LEVEL determination..Ya gotta LOVE IT... ALOT...(before "IT"...loves you BACK..LOL)
@@JOHNKUHNMUSIC I've taught myself, piano, recorder, guitar, bass, piano accordian, saxophone, clarinet so I decided to try banjo because I find it fascinating. The lessons on RUclips take you from forward backward roll to a song like grandfathers clock. I can't find intermediate steps or lessons that show how forward backward roll is applied in a simple tune. Very discouraging.

Hey Kevin, well ya could, but it sounds like you'd have to ream out the tuner holes for the G&B. Some banjos have non planetary tuners which are usually smaller in diameter..Your better off gettin "Cheata Keys"..They're less expensive than Keiths or Shallers, BUT, they BOTH turn the same way which would KILL me NOW, after playin these Keiths since 78..LOL Heres a link and 10$ cheaper than Ive seen on other sites....www.banjoteacher.com/banjo-supplies/tuning-pegs/d-tuners/d-tuners-for-banjo-with-no-drilling-or-set-screws-standard-size.html?gclid=CjwKCAjwn8SLBhAyEiwAHNTJbVHr8zIY5uFVyr90tTY0jFwnsw-47xXgnHc3Dwu5T521k6PCA4c1vBoCVYwQAvD_BwE

Most of it is what I feel at the moment.I used to get E mail requests for "help" in certain spots before the tempo speed function was added but havent had any in yrs.Only comments or mail I get now are those who have slowed it down and come up with their own connector phrasing to suit their style. GEEZ! I just now saw this. Went through a period a while back where notifications had stopped. Thanks for the kudos! No , I didnt use the SQ1 here. I set up an 1/8 note click track and started with the Taylor gtr, then the Peavey(bass).Seemed good enuff so no banjo chop.
Great job loved it! Thank you.
Thanks man! Wish we still had those old iron horses keepin shedules today! Last one I saw on the main track was in 66.
Great Music!
Very nice pick in’.
Appreciate that Robert! Still a really fun tune to play.. eevn if it has to be just a leeeetle slower nowdays..LOL Thanks for stoppin by

Phänomenal ❤
Superb!
Thanks much ! Im creepin up on "elderlyhood" not sure how much longer Ill be able ta crank this out? LOL
Sounds great. Reminds me of the homer and the barnstormers version 👍

Hey thanks for the link..I KNEW it was gonna be fancy ..AS ONLY Buck can play..LOL...
Very good.It swings !
+3Pitous Hey! Glad ya liked it.Thanks for stoppin by.
That was beautiful my friend
Thanks for stoppin by!. Gladja enjoyed it.
Outstanding, can't wait to start lessons
I love it !!
Can I get this in tab.. Love ❤️ it
Gladja like my interpretation but Im a TOTAL R brained player and only play what Im feelin at the time. Never owned any staff paper to actually "blue print" a tune? Never play it the same way twice?.. Sorry.
Very tasteful!!
Thanks !...This one can get outta hand real quick...LOL
Gnarly!
This guy is priceless 👍
Just solid!
Hey thanks man. She's gotta run a wee bit slower nowdays.LOL
@@JOHNKUHNMUSIC i run a wee bit slower nowadays too.
AWESOME!!!!!!!!
Thanks man, much appreciated!
You should do the Opry!
Wow!
Hey!.. Yeah , this tune is pretty hard to play NOW.. Ole ARTHUR has slowed me down alittle.. Gettin ready for a shoulder replacement next month..Already got 2 titanium KNEES...LOL..Take care of your joints !..They go QUICK ! (no warning.). Hope all is well out your way.
Ha ha ha. I can't put the D-tuners on my no-name banjo, so I'm going to be into a few bucks before I'm done.
@@JOHNKUHNMUSIC Thanks, John. Do you play clawhammer?
@@kevinobrien9626 No, but I really admire those who have the skill and often get my ideas for arrs from those players. My Angelina Baker medley is about as close as I come to soundin like a CH player.
Hey Tim, thanks MUCH for the support!..Just let me know when your ready.
epic good stuff!!!
flyinbryan1619 Hey man , thanks for the support!
Yea,digging that !!!
This comment was being held for review?.RUclips has gone nuts here lately?Never held comments in the past? FUN TUNE! for sure. Thanks for stoppin by.
Slick
Hi John, I'd be interested in learning your arrangement. Is a copy for sale please?
Thanks
Ted
Hey Ted, the only copy of this is what your hearing.Theres no tab. Most of it is what I feel at the moment.I used to get E mail requests for "help" in certain spots before the tempo speed function was added but havent had any in yrs.Only comments or mail I get now are those who have slowed it down and come up with their own connector phrasing to suit their style. Its what we ALL do anyway right?...LOL. Listen to it on .05 and give it a try! Thanks for stoppiin by!
@@JOHNKUHNMUSIC Thanks John. I'll learn it from here. I was just being lazy :p
@@tednash239 Ted Nash Beats the 1978 way of slowin down LPs with a HEAVY dictionary rubbin the turning platter.LOLTakes ALOTTA disipline nowdays to phrase out a melody with all the choices available.Im kinda glad I developed most of my skill level 78-95.Im wrapped too tight for the WWW.LOL If ya want , let me know how your doing!
Just great. 1:34 gave me a good laugh.
Thanks for stoppin by Rob! Yeah, I used to jam with a buncha old dudes 80+ and they'd get mad at that clock chimin the TZ sayin I ruined the best part..LOL. Glad ya enjoyed it!
Hey! Thanks for the support. Your hearin REAL gtr and REAL electric bass played and mixed right here. Now, I DO USE the ole Ensoniq SQ1 for the rock stuff ( drums and keys parts) but I record it Analog usin a 15 yr old Yamaha brain , then track guitar and bass to it after its recorded on file. I use the mixes for backing trx for Live performance. Yeah, from 89-2005, I had to carry HER and the Alesis "data disk" (3.5 floppys..LOL) to the gigs. Thank GOD digital recording..LOL
hi john I liked that melody, could you help me explain how I can adjust the mechanism I have the achets if there's links to offer me it'll be a great pleasure thank you for advance
Omar Ennaciri Hey Omar, I just now saw this... I HATE this google + crap!..Ya dont always get noticfied you have comments...Wish they woulda left YOU TUBE ALONE...LOL..First off , what kinda D tuners do ya have?..The ones Im using in this video are called "Keith Tuners" , developed by Bill Keith...Yeah, let me know the type you have.
Defintion of the word "C O O L".. (cool.. was bent.. !!)
Yeah, I was far from COOL when I created this cuz I never really settled on my bending choices?..LOL I thought, Id better record it NOW , before I start "thinkin" about it?..Thanks for stoppin by!
Great!
Thanks man !
too cool!!
+Fiddlekrazy Steve Hey Steve, thanks for stoppin by!
You betcha!
Just put a set of three schaller D-Tuners on my seven string acoustic.
+Fiddlekrazy Steve Now THATS something I gotsta See and Hear... Ive seen and heard B benders, and drop D tuners on Tele's but would really like to hear a D tuner arr. on guitar!
OMG!!!!!
This is the first song I've heard using d tuners that wasn't home sweet home
Yeah, theres a BUNCH of tunes that that are a blast to play with these contraptions."Banjo Buck"(Buck Trent) is one of FAVS!
Now s nice version of Dixie?, Best I ever heard was
Best version of Dixie I ever heard was Dennis caplinger's version
