A few months ago I picked up an M3 iMac with 16gb RAM and 1tb storage. I’m very happy with it and despite being tempted by the new M4 upgrade I see no reason to switch up for my needs.
For its target market, I think it is a nice product. Great screen resolution for watching RUclips/Netflix, good iGPU for photo editing memes, 16GB of RAM to multi-task, advance camera, and AI features to help kids with the homework. External storage of 1 TB is cheap ($70), and a subscription to 0365 gives 1 TB of cloud storage.
Bro it's ridiculous that you have to have tiny amounts of storage. My PHONE has 1 TB. My GAME CONSOLE has 4 TB and it cost me 300 bucks for a fast m2 drive. it's horrible. who can upgrade to this shit ? I'd lose screen, I'd lose ram, and I'd lose storage space.
As an iMac user I really don’t understand the hate around the charge port location. The battery died? Plug it in for 30s and you are good to go for another hour then fully charge it until two months time. That has only happened to me once because I will still get a low battery warning giving me ample time before I need to plug in. I’m not saying it’s a great product (it’s quite uncomfortable), but for something that is included, it’s not that inconvenient.
Apple will always be Apple! I think 512GB should be the base storage to go with the new base 16GB. It’s 15-25 cents more to go from 256 up to 512. Apple buys in bulk to keep parts cheaper so they screw over their customers. 😂 Why not?

I have a 2012 mac mini. I’m definitely upgrading to an m4 imac, i have my heart set on a pink one. I was going to go with another mini but id need to refresh all the accessories anyway so ill get the all in one version.
With all the streaming and cloud providers it is debatable, however I think base storage should be 512gb on any computer, ram should have be 32gb as you said
Bro these iMacs are not for super users, just for average population. 8GB was genuinely a big problem even for an average user, and now that these have Apple Intelligence, 16GB was bound to happen. But yes 512GB SSD should also have been standardized, but again it's Apple🤷
Can anyone chime in on if the baseline 8-core model will be good for casual gaming? Will the fan immediately speed up and fill the room with white noise?
I was wondering about upgrading. I have an M1 iMac and the main use other than internet and basic stuff, is Lightroom for editing photos, with a tiny bit of photoshop too. On the M1, there is often lag when working with files. I have a 61 megapixel sony camera. Will the M4 remedy this, or do I need more power. I love the look and all in one of the iMac and dearly wish they would make a pro iMac. Otherwise I would get a M4 Pro Mini. Thanks :)
You talk about upgrading to the M4. I figure you are talking to those that already own a Mac of some sort. Now here's where I come into the picture. We have a Mac all in one desktop and a Mini Mac at our church. The Mini Mac computer is for our livestreams only. It has its' own screen, keyboard and mouse. But we also have an I Mac, (I don't know what model) but it is an all in one configuration. It has a bigger screen. We use that Mac to run our Pro Presenter for the in house screens for slides and lyrics and videos for the congregation in services. I am on the media team and I run both the livestream Mini Mac and the all in one Mac for the Pro Presenter program. Until I was trained and learned to a point, how to operate on Macs, I have never used any Mac before in my life. I have had all PCs, from Windows 98 to Windows 10 currently. I have a second PC tower that I upgraded to Windows 11 because it is a newer tower and was capable of upgrading. I honestly never use that computer. I really do not like Windows 11 at all. I would still be running my Windows Vista if it would operate faster. I don't know how to make it run faster, but if I did I would start using it again. So I continue to use my Windows 10. Now I said all of that to say this: I like the Mac that I use at church. I only know how to do a few things on it to get me through the services. I am wanting to get a new computer this year. I prefer desktop types over laptops. But I am also planning on getting a new laptop this year as well. I take my laptop on trips to dump my videos on to it from my phone to keep my phone space free. I do you tube videos and that's why I need a newer laptop. I have been considering getting a Mac desktop and a Mac laptop at some point. I know absolutely nothing about Macs except what I have learned to operate the livestream and the Pro Presenter at church. I need to find a source to get very educated on Macs, their operating system, their specs, their method of navigation, and if I should seriously consider converting over to Mac. As I stated I have only had Pcs since my windows 98, then XP, Vista, Windows 10. I never had a Windows 7 and 8 tower. I went from XP to Vista and from Vista to Windows 10. I am not computer tech savvy, I am self taught and can navigate a Pc fairly well, but know nothing about the technical mumbo jumbo stuff. Bottom line: I am asking for your advice, help, direction, knowledge about investing in a Mac or not. I do like being on the one at church, but for my personal computer at home, would it be right for me? I am personally sick and tired of apps and all of this app this crap and app that crap. Just give me a typical computer like the old XPs and Vistas with programs and none of this app crap. I have to deal with enough app crap on my I phone. Yeah I am old school, but any advice you could give me to get me started on this in depth journey will be very much appreciated. Oh and lastly, I have been using Clip Champ to edit my you tube videos and I do like that program rather well. I know it is associated with Microsoft Edge, which is in my Windows 10. Would I have some sort of video editing program in a Mac to edit my vids? I wouldn't pay for any type of editing software just to edit my vids. Thanks for any help from anyone who may read this. Sorry it is long,b tu I am a writer, a songwriter and I explain myself in detail.
The most surprising thing to me was the song in the intro. I thought I had clicked the wrong video for a second. I've been a huge supporter of Little Boots for the last 5+ years so I was not expecting to hear her voice when the video started.
Great video!!!! I am using an old 21´´ iMac from late 2015 which model would you recommend to me? Do you think that the iMac is worth it or is it better to wait for the Mac Mini? All the best
I've a M1 Mac mini and a M1 iMac.. The 4.5k display on the iMac is gorgeous. Not as gorgeous as my late-2015 iMac 27" 5k display but still worth the £500 I paid for it.
I'm going to wait for a version with an XDR display. No reason to upgrade to the same SDR display when HDR content is so prevalent nowadays. Even Instagram supports HDR photos now.
That’s what I was thinking. At this moment I’m thinking of upgrading my laptop to a iPad Pro with m4 and using that oled display as a 2nd monitor when I edit with Mac Studio. I’m waiting to see how the new Mac mini is but I’m still working off a M1 Max chip and I don’t really need a faster computer at the moment for video editing. But it is crazy the an iPad Pro has the same chip as an iMac
Now I wish I didn't upgrade last year I have the M3 but still have the lightening cords for the keyboard, mouse and pad. Is the purple the same purple?
7:47 - Actually, the previous base M3 iMac also used the binned chip (8-core CPU/8-core GPU), so pretty much all base models of the 13-inch MacBook Air and 24-inch iMac have been using binned M-series (standard) chips. Hope this helps.
What's really annoying is Apple still has the charging port of the Magic Mouse on the bottom! What is so hard about moving it to the front of the mouse so you can use it while charging?!
With 32 GB of RAM, it might be able to do things like really fast 1080p video editing, which means RUclips creators don't have spend a fortune on hardware anymore just to create RUclips videos.
This is a nice update. It’s tempting to upgrade from my M1, but It’s still doing the job just fine so I won’t do it. Maybe in a couple of years I’ll upgrade. Probably around M6 or M7 time.

@@wolf-dieterschulz-engelke8598 The PC is so small many would bring it with themselves on a vacation or even a business trip as it won't take up much space in suitcase and it fits perfectly on a hotel room table. Tech RUclipsr Marques Brownlee is famous for taking his iMac everywhere he travels in a suitcase. You simply can't get this much productivity from a laptop and this is the perfect work trip companion as you can get the work done from anywhere except from maybe airplane, but honestly who does serious work in an airplane?
Please explain to me, I would like to upgrade my iMac from the 2009 iMac to the new one. But all the connections on the back are all thunderbolt. How do I connect my external backup hard drive that uses USB. Is there an adapter that can be used?
I have a 2012 mac mini. I’m definitely upgrading to an m4 imac, i have my heart set on a pink one. I was going to go with another mini but id need to refresh all the accessories anyway so ill get the all in one version.
Have they finally delivered a screen that can go full black even at an angle like the 27 inch was always able to do?
2:42 he says lightning is dead, but he keeps showing the Magic Mouse upside down with the lightning port visible
16gb with 256gb in 2024 is like living in 2018 idk man we need 1TB in 2024 with 32gb as a STANDARD and you glazing this is ridiculous
This is for student and grandparents not super users.
The people forgots that buying regular ram is also buying gpu ram, which is unified memory…not even saying about ssd controller cache.
Nah, 16gb is enough for imac and macbook air, 24gb for M4 pro macbook pro.
Why no WIFI 7 on M4 iMac or Mac Mini?
Which color is the fastest?
I've waited so long for Apple to finally concede that 16 GB RAM is the minimum. With that my dream machine 15" MBA is almost here.
These upgrades are insane
💪 💪 💪
What about the horizontal lines showing up on the screen after two years problem, did they fix that? It’s all over on the tech web sites
Thanks :)
The RAM starting and 16 and going to 32 is really nice, but the extra TB ports and display support is definitely the most exciting for me
You talk about upgrading to the M4.
It seems like a nice upgrade. Thanks for sharing.
Would you recommend this upgrade to the m1max laptop with 32 gigs of ram? For video editing and sound production?
Great video!!!! I am using an old 21´´ iMac from late 2015 which model would you recommend to me? Do you think that the iMac is worth it or is it better to wait for the Mac Mini?
All the best
Buy Macbook Air 13" M3 /16GB / 512GB for the same price.
@@FirstLast-nr6gf You give terrible advice. Mac mini just dropped today, and has been rumored for weeks.
@@FirstLast-nr6gf I already had two laptops and id not for me🧐
I've a M1 Mac mini and a M1 iMac.. The 4.5k display on the iMac is gorgeous. Not as gorgeous as my late-2015 iMac 27" 5k display but still worth the £500 I paid for it.
Finally the iMac gets some love from this channel.
But not from Apple. Sad…
is the SSD gen 5?
Just ordered mine, mine is 32 gb ram and 2 tb ssd, 10 core, looking forward to it as I do video editing.
Did you like it so far for video editing?
works out a better option than the 27 asd
Do you know if the Mac mini is still scheduled to be updated this month?
could be tomorrow or the day after
Now I wish I didn't upgrade last year I have the M3 but still have the lightening cords for the keyboard, mouse and pad. Is the purple the same purple?
Just waiting for the new Mac Mini video. M4 Mac Mini with M4 Pro and 64 GM RAM and Thunderbolt 5 looks interesting.
I don't know what to go for as a film student. This or the new Macbook pro M4 Pro
Looks like a very good upgrade. Looking forward to the M4 Mac mini update hopefully tomorrow!
You get coloured iMac Peripherals like trackpad, mouse and keyboard. If you buy separately, you have the choice of black or white, not just black.
I'm not happy that Apple discontinued the 27"
The whole USA is offering cheaper and cheaper junk for more.
@maxtechofficial this is good review for new iMac M4. So how about performance if we compare between iMac m3 vs iMac M4.
monitor stand should have a wireless/Qi charger built in and the Magic Mouse should be charging wirelesly instead of having the port underneath
If they made a pink MacBook Pro it would be game over 😭
Can anyone tell me the reason why there isn't any M4 Pro or Max version?
7:47 - Actually, the previous base M3 iMac also used the binned chip (8-core CPU/8-core GPU), so pretty much all base models of the 13-inch MacBook Air and 24-inch iMac have been using binned M-series (standard) chips. Hope this helps.
I wish it had AV1 hw encoder.
it has.
What's really annoying is Apple still has the charging port of the Magic Mouse on the bottom! What is so hard about moving it to the front of the mouse so you can use it while charging?!
Don't know when Apple gonna release new gen monitors, waiting for the new version of studio display to pair up with my Macbook Pro.
I have the 2020 imac intel 7 should I upgrade?
Can you use this monitor for xbox/PS5?
Does it still have a headphone jack?
4:15 M4 iMac 2024 supports SDR 8K 120Hz or HDR 8K 120Hz ? HDR has a dynamic range almost triple that of SDR.
Pretty nice though lack of wi-fi 7 is a bummer
Wow, i went to the site and saw it for myself. That is just ridiculous.
@@PromotingTheBeat I think it's just tied to their SoC implementation that was prob similar to M3. My guess is we'll see wi-fi 7 and hopefully thunderbolt 5 next year in the M5 series which could be a nice time to upgrade if you're coming from an M1. I'll also be watching AI TOPS performance because who knows what might come. We may see some killer AI software features over the next 3-5 years.
First time I noticed that iMac comes with vesa mount option
The m4 doesn't not support a driver for my hp1006, Still can not play music thru the headphone jack.
If you get the 256GB couldn't you just use an external SSD/ external hard drive for more storage?
1299? Here in Sweden its closer to 2k and this is with student discount geez
I have a windows laptop, does this iMac come with video-in so I can use it as an external monitor ?
Windows laptop from work
Will the 256GB have a slower SSD?
that green omg !
Still no M Pro chip option. :(
@@ArthropodSpideyKind of uncalled for. But that’s why we need iMac Pro back. With a proper space black/midnight black color option.
@@ArthropodSpideyThey could probably cool it in that chassis. The M4 chips are more efficient and don’t throttle as much. At least the A18 pro chip vs A17.
It would cannibalise the Mac Studio sales… 😢
@@m89hu C'est la vie!
@@m89huthey made the mistake of making the Mac Studio. That should have been the newly remodeled Mac Pro and they could have had an iMac Pro desktop with insane performance and the same specs for the display as the 6K XDR
I have the M1 iMac on release date I happy with it I don’t seem why I just upgrade only upgrade for me this year is the new iPhone I’m on the iPhone XS Max right now
Is the 256GB SSD model one x 256GB or two x 128GB?
On point #2 (1:18), the base / entry level imac does not have 4 thunderbolt ports, only 2 ports. minor detail there.
Yes that's why I mentioned the $1500 iMac model gets four Thunderbolt ports
@@MaxTechOfficial yep you did say that, lol.
I think I'm disappointed apple chose to release updated macs this way, but alright. I'm waiting for the M4 MacBook Air, which I guess will come in the spring.
If I had to throw out a wild theory - I was surprised apple released the M4 chip... in the iPad Pro back in Spring. And I speculated that apple would have an M5 chip out in their mac machines and M6 in mobile, etc. I may be wrong, but Apple's cadence on CPUs is shocking.

1299 is about 1800 in Korea due to exchange rate
Do all 4 Thunderbolt 4 ports have their own Thunderbolt 4 Controller (i.e. have non-shared bandwidth)? That would be great if their don't share bandwidth with other Thunderbolt 4 ports on a shared channel.
yes, he showed the M4 chip and the 4 controllers.
I think you missed out on the fact that it now supports 2 external monitors up tp 6K resolution. It’s about darned time
i'm sure coders and content creators but as a user i wouldn't buy an iMac to add an additional display. Wouldn't someone rather a mac studio if they were running multiple displays?
@@doubletee4391 if you want run 3 screens, like me, its a viable option. boosted iMac (32/1TB) + 5K screen (like a Samsung for $600) + 4K screen would be a good alternative that wasn't really an option with the current lineup. perhaps if the bump the mini pro it might fit the bill.

WAYYYYYYYYYY better
Is it good for heave Final Cut Pro work?
Does anyone know if the iMac M4 is fanless or has a fan?
M3 has 2 fans, but you’d never know unless you throw something really heavy at it. They are normally inaudible, and even at full blast they’re not annoying to me. And I use it in a very quiet home office. I assume M4 will be the same.
