- Donald Trump has joked he wouldn’t become a dictator if he wins the next presidential election, “except for day one”.
The former US president took part in a town hall hosted by Fox News in Iowa, where the first caucuses of the 2024 campaign take place next month.
Fox News host Sean Hannity asked Trump if he would promise America to “never abuse power as retribution against anybody”.
“Except for day one,” Trump replied.
“We’re closing the border and we’re drilling, drilling, drilling - after that I’m not a dictator,” he added.

It is what Trump didn't say in the recent town hall meeting that is most concerning. When Hannity asked Trump if he “in any way” had “any plans whatsoever, if re-elected president, to abuse power, to break the law to use the government to go after people.”
A simple re-assuring yes would have been fine, but Trump chose to deflect and ignored responding altogether and said “You mean like they’re using right now?”
His intentions are clear, it is only his Maga base who are either not listening or actually agree with his fascist ideology, I am increasingly being led to believe it is the latter.
