Amazingly I was asked to audition for these guys. I was in another Melbourne pub band, & Got to know their guitarist Greg Dorman. Just a lovely guy, he played that amazing popping delayed guitar in "Change in Mood" We chatted about guitars & effects & stuff for hours. Anyway, one Saturday morning, pretty sure it was '83, Greg called me to tell me he was leaving Kids, & he'd put my name in as a replacement guitarist. He Gave me Scott & Craig's numbers (Craig was the bass player, also a really lovely guy) & suggested I should call them, coz I'd fit in well. I thanked Greg hugely but never saw him again, (he played a big part in creating Change in Mood & Bitter desire), The thing I didn't tell him was that my guitar ability was nowhere near his, & I knew I wasn't up to it. Besides I wanted to be a singer, the guitar was just rhythm. The guy they got, Claude, was much more suitable. I still play for fun & love guitars, but I'm probably lucky I never joined Kids. I did way better as an artist. Sorry for the self-indulgent essay, but oh the memories.
Wow, what a time to be in Australia, listening to this, along with others. Such innocence. If only we knew what we were experiencing and how we would look back on those golden times.
I hear you. Our time was amazing. We were so lucky to have been kids during this time. It's another world now. I so wish I could wrap my arms around every one and bring you all back to this time in our lives. It was golden. X
brings a tear to my eye...the best decade of my life! these lads rented an apartment next door to my old man when they came to Bundy back in the day....
Born in 1975, I feel I took 80's music for granted , so much good stuff from Australia and overseas, compared to what comes out these days. Songs had meaning and relatable lines. Proper musician talent, no sax these days, and that's why we keep listening.
My amazing friend and I went to many of their Gigs. It was our song. Unfortunately he took his life 20 years on. The song may have been written about him.
I found this album in a small record store in a plaza in south Florida. What are the odds? It was so refreshing and made up a significant portion of the soundtrack to my high school era. 🙏💜🙏
KITK still have a lot of American fans. I'm just one of them. Still have Vinyl & cassettes packed up my mother's garage in Philly. *makes a note to have them shipped* - singing the house down to this for 1st time since 80s & can't believe I still remember it. Timeless.
The exact place where I got this song stuck in my head today... I always dreaded the day when I'd fall into the "contemporary easy-listening music" category
Yes!! Heard it for the first time in ages in Coles today!!! :) Annoyingly they kept making store announcements all thru it :( Got home and youtubed it straight away!
I love their track Bitter Desire from the same album. Wide World of Sports used to play it all the time. Yes, the REAL Wide World of Sports with Gibbo, Chappelli, and Ian "Bear" Maurice. I still played Kids at parties years after. The 80's were a great time to be a teenager. Accept no substitute!
Yes the80s were excellent my teenage years growing I remember this song was a bit.long summer afternoons lots of memories1985 was the best year&era never forgotten x😊👍
Having seen Scott Carne perform last night at a family party, he still has that voice! Unfortunately he did a lot of old covers for the first half of the night, but when he sang this I still got shivers up and down my spine! It was incredible and kind of funny to see all the 30-40 year old women suddenly rush the stage to dance in a semi-trance! (Yes, I was one of them!)
OMG...One of the BEST BANDS and SONG of the 80's..... Here we are in March 2022 listening to a masterpiece... Wish l could go back to the the BEST ERA of all time❤
Wow, it's not only a surprise but also very good to see that I wasn't really the only music lover back in the 80's that was aware of this song & group. Wow, REALLY!! I remember this song from one of my moms many music vcr tapes that she recorded off of MTV & VH1 back when they were still about music & actually played music video's. Only thing that used to baffle me about this one is that it's the only song I ever heard from Kids In The Kitchen & the only place I ever saw or heard it was on one of my moms vcr tapes. I guess MTV must have only played it one time which would be when my mom was able to catch it on the vcr. And I've never ever heard anyone mention this group or show any clue of recognition whenever I'd ask about them or play this song. Was worried that I might not even be able to find them here on youtube. I knew they couldn't be a fignutten of my imagination along with the old video & song I remember. This song used to make me cry from the memories of being too scared & so shy to a fault, causing so much pain & loneliness back in high school. I may have grown up a lot since then & have learned to be a little outgoing & very verbal & vocal about depression & insecurities in children & teens, but I still hold sensitive songs like this one close to my heart. Has the feel of an old loyal friend that was there for me when I was lonely & didn't think anyone would understand the pain I was constantly feeling. This isn't the same video footage that I remember but no doubt about it, it's definitely the song that was my friend.
I am in early 40s and remember this song well from when I was a kid. Most people in Australia who were here in the 80s would know this song and band. Great musicians.
@@kelliewhyte_85 Lol, that's a trip, you 2 huh? Just sorry that VCR tapes weren't made to last for years. Or VCR's for that matter. Though we no longer have a VCR to play all my moms video tapes on, and n9t even sure if they're still playable, I still refuse to get rid of them. Too many good videos on her tapes.
+liam bower God the Tiv.. how many bands went through there over time.... What ever happened to the live music scene?? All the great 80's venues dried up and disappeared
Saw this wonderful band at the Barwon Valley Activity Centre in 1985 in Geelong. Australia. Scott Carne was fantastic. Still is. Countdown spectacular proved that.
I will never forget being at the Mitchelton Winery they were first on, using a computer this was 1985 or so thinking just wow at how they were be even before my time I was 18
But an equally big one to let the twin horror virus of madonna the vile and pete waterman plus rap to ruin it too, which they did and THEN we got the 90s!

THIS IS NOT THE ORIGINAL VIDEO. Anyone know what I am talking about? 1986. College freshman. I knew then that 😮this song would matter for the rest of my life. If you know of it, PLEASE share. I recorded it on BETA and VHS. My ass brother taped over it. So pissed. But the other video begins with him and a girlfriend calling it quits. When she walks away he realizes that he made a huge mistake- he buries his face into his hands. Been 37 years but that's what I remember.
man, the music, the fashion, trying to dress like madonna, the 80:s were a fantastic time, how I wish I could go back to 1985 for 1 day, just to dress that way again, and to listen to great music, and hang out at sweethearts in sydney!!!!
Please don’t tell me I am the only one in 2024 listening to KITK. A classic .
your not the only one i used to listen to the LP every day back in the mid 80's loved this song still do today
Nope, me three 😊👌!
Heard it on Coles radio. Came back for another listen.
I don't think I've heard it since the 80s but I remember all the lyrics.
I'm here listening
Not alone. I have just shared an Aussie band reference about Scott. I used to be his doppelganger (apparently, circa 1985 ish) xxxxso 🐝🎉😅🎵🎶🤣
Still a great song after all these years 😊
It's music like this that makes me proud to be an aussie! God bless you all!
Sometimes I would like to be 11 years old again, when life at this time seemed magical.

Helen Staines, I was a kid at the time too. Please bring me back with you. I had no idea how lucky I was. Perhaps one definition of innocence?
First heard this song in the movie Dead End Drive In back in 1986. The soundtrack of that movie rocked!
Hindsight's 50/50
❤ saw them at a pub 29 years ago .
damn i miss this era, when music had meaning, This was the best KITK song i think,... just beautiful
Without a doubt.
So agree with you. I'm a 1985 teen. I try to explain to my 13 yo now. He seems quite nostalgic and whistful when I share our stories of our time.
Damn rite Michelle, extremely underrated band and song 🙂
brings a tear to my eye...the best decade of my life! these lads rented an apartment next door to my old man when they came to Bundy back in the day....
This is a world class song
This was as good as anything in the mid 80s. Classic.
When musicians were creative, authentic and original and sang with passion and honesty. Bring it back!
Darn right
stop heating on new artists because you lack the imagination to find, recognize and acknowledge indie talent
Aussie music peaked in the 80's, nuff said........Thanks for the upload, love it :)
Born in 1975, I feel I took 80's music for granted , so much good stuff from Australia and overseas, compared to what comes out these days.

Proper musician talent, no sax these days, and that's why we keep listening.
This wicked song still stands up thirty years later. The Sax was massive in the 80s and it is very much missing nowadays.
They had a "change in mood" and got rid of it lol
My amazing friend and I went to many of their Gigs. It was our song. Unfortunately he took his life 20 years on. The song may have been written about him.
@@janeholliday1526 wow. Incidentally "My Life" is my favourite song if theirs and is about that.
bloody ridiculously good song, makes me a bit patriotic hearing great 80s music from my home city Melbourne

Superb song and a shame that bands of this quality are just not there anymore!
KITK still have a lot of American fans. I'm just one of them. Still have Vinyl & cassettes packed up my mother's garage in Philly. *makes a note to have them shipped* - singing the house down to this for 1st time since 80s & can't believe I still remember it. Timeless.

Cool! :-)
+NativeMoon I have Scott Carne's number in my phone... wanna give him a call?
So love hearing that from our American family ♥️
God I'm so glad they made it somehow to the USA 🙂 try 1927 as well, sure you'll enjoy.
OMG the 80's we're the best years.
Love this. Heard it on the radio the other day after decades and it was like remembering pure gold x
Now playing in a Coles supermarket near you in 2018! Great song though, memories of being an Aussie kid in the mid 80's :)
The exact place where I got this song stuck in my head today... I always dreaded the day when I'd fall into the "contemporary easy-listening music" category
It's a very nostalgic tune for those of us fortunate to be a teenager at that time. I so wish I could transport my young teen there now.
Me too. Was in the 6th grade when this came out.
Had this on a tape of various artist's called 1986 out now ! 🇦🇺

Heard this on an 80s radio station the other day. Still sounds fantastic !!!
Beautiful, love this so much. Scott Carne ....gorgeous.
the ambience of the 80s

We were living in the dream and didn’t even realise it.
It was a magical time. We all looked to the future but didn't realize how great the world was at the time.
Shine one of the best albums of the 80s holds up even today great sound
just a beautiful song...love the 80's...how could you not
Excellent song!
They deserved more recognition when it was produced.
The 80s music was so good.
Scott was such a cutie ! That voice is amazing - vastly underrated. This band should have been huge.
Had it cranked on the cassette player in the new XF falcon back in the day.
One of the best songs ever :)

The 'Kids' shone so Bright and brief, and left the legacy of a few superb tracks from one album,,
Ah!
I remember listening to this in the 80s.
The music from most groups in the 80s had everything.
The best ever Decade of songs.
Superb band, wow takes you back, heard song on radio yesterday and just had to hear again! Thanks:)
best farkin song eva.......period ....scott ya legend
Beautiful melodic lyrics about being caught in the crossfire of a relationship.
KITK was the First Band I ever saw Live in Morwell in the 80's. Loved this song
This song is my Window to my dear departed friend Jason Owens. RIP my dear friend. You are never forgotten.
A song that meant so much to me , wow. The memories.
Another great song of this band, they deserved more recognition. A golden oldie but loved today....

Such a great band ... under rated especially my favourite song of theirs " My Life "

Saw these guys live in 86 and it was the first time I heard the magic of the Fairlight.
Classic song wish they'd make songs like this today.

It was a mistake to let the 80s end
Stay on you tube and we're still in the 80s :-)
