2024 Introduction to Biophysical Techniques
The LMB Biophysics Facility houses a wide range of state-of-the-art and in-house built instruments that enable the molecular characterisation of macromolecular size, shape, mass, stability, binding affinity, dynamics and interaction kinetics.
The facility is primarily intended for hands-on research by students, postdocs, and group leaders, who prepare samples and make measurements. Biophysics supports users in advice on experimental techniques and results, training and in collaborative research.
In this video Stephen discusses the issues of reproductivity of data and unconscious bias. He describes issues that must be considered to make the best measurements. He explains the difference between precision and accuracy of measurement. He shows how a variety of software programs fit data using non-linear least squares and how users can evaluate the “goodness of fit”.
The Biophysics Facility is headed by Stephen McLaughlin, supported by Chris Johnson and Chris Batters.
