Animals of massive proportions are not hard to eat for a heron because they use a specially adapted eating technique that helps them swallow large prey whole. There is nothing "brutal" - as one commentator puts it - about this. This is life. Difficult to watch, yes, but an interesting aspect of avian behaviour and it shows just how versatile the grey heron is. And for all those who condemn the heron for doing what comes naturally in order to survive... I recommend you pay a visit to a poultry processing plant. That's where the true horror and brutality lies.

I used to see herons as, like, my fishing buddies. Like "Hey man, let's go catch a few fish, maybe take a swim, drink a cold one, go home and cook what we caught, right?" Now I see them as scary little dinosaurs, freaking Velociraptors. "Today's entree: Fish Stuffed Duck"
