    I'm with green flag £60 a year. I have only broken down once in my 53 years of driving but when I did the green flag put me on a transporter and brought me home, 151 miles from Penrith to Chesterfield, no stopping straight home brilliant service.

      Wouldn’t touch Green Flag again with a barge pole. Bodged roadside “fix”, rescue dumped us at motorway services for several hours with no plan, and took 4 days to return the car home.

    Hi Will, I haven't read every message, but from my experience both in the motor trade and RAC, your van wouldn't start after a period parked up, the first AA guy may have connected diagnostics, which can reset the control unit, the fault codes may then indicate a fault such as the crank sensor, throttle potentioniometer, and so on, my first guess would have been an earth supply problem, either body earth, engine earth or internal body earth, probably connected to the control unit somehow, even a random underpass earth, a wiring diagram for the engine electronics sometimes helps, don't buy any components till you check as many earth's as possible, loosen then tighten if poss, good luck Will.👍🤞

    • @NarrowboatWill
      @NarrowboatWill  2 месяца назад +1

      I totally agree. When I fitted my cambelt, my engine earth came loose and my van wouldn't start. So this time I got underneath and check the earth cable and any other earth cable I could find. I can't believe all these things went at the same time. Weird.

      @@NarrowboatWill Morning Will, might be worth checking if there are any forums online relating to your make of van, always useful for finding out other stuff too when problems occur, good luck I hope you manage to fix it, looking at your vlogs you've got natural diagnostic skills, also try disconnecting the engine management harness connector to the control unit if you can find it and then reconnect (with ignition off)

    Morning Will. Glad you got back, albeit in steps which is the way it works. I watch vehicle diagnostic RUclips channels (Pine Hollow Auto Diagnostics - Ivan, good use of scopes and pc and logic). Hope you get to the bottom of the underlying problem, if its a single problem. My Vento is drive by wire, bit advanced maybe for its time 😂😂😂. I wanted to retrofit a cruise control but having no cable to link to it was very difficult. Eventually I discovered via a mechanic in Essex on TDI Club forums that it already had the programming in the ECU it just needed switching on, plus three switches and a connector to an existing connector near fusebox. Total cost - £9. He provided the instructions and my VW Dealer on the Wirral plugged his diagnostic box in and did it in five minutes. No charge. Have you got wiring diagrams for the van? I have also a 2011 VW Scirocco, no Haynes manual for it published, but found the wiring diagrams on the internet- a mere 1,200 pages!! Not printing that! Anyway, go golf! Cheers. Paul.

    Will you get what you pay for and as far as I am concerned the AA is worth every single penny. ..
    They once arranged for my vehicle to be shipped back to the UK . from Northern France...
    This is why I will never buy a electric car again ..no garage abroad wants to touch them....
    I noticed that you have ordered a new throttle sensor ..for your van take the time to check if it needs pairing with the vans computer..
    This is the problem with vehicles today the average person can not do work on Thier own vehicles because everything is run by a computer.
    Call me old fashioned but give me a vehicle that does not depend on a computer .and I will be happy...
    As for electric cars they can keep them.. they are a complete pain in the backside...
    Anyway will I'm glad you managed to get back to your boat with your van...I'm pretty sure that you will be able to fix the van ..
    Anyway keep smiling mate keep safe and well filthy thumbs up.👍👍👍..

      I've just read that the London charge will apply to electric cars now as well. Wasn't that the whole point of going electric because of pollution? It's all a complete scam. Even modern cars now made of plastic parts that are in my view designed to fail.

    Will, it looks like you could use some financial assistance. I’m on vacation right now, but when I get home I’ll try to help out. You are my all time favorite narrow boater: funny, down to earth, golfer, and all around good person. You need subscribers who not just talk the talk but who are willing to put their money where their mouths are. That is if the can and there’s a worthy reason. I hope your luck takes a U turn for the better. Best wishes, Tom.

    We had a Ford C-max and broke down in Cornwall with an error saying "gearbox fault". It turned out to be metal shards detected in the oil. The AA man needed a pc and requested his mate to attend. They deleted all faults then test drove the car.....they broke down a mile down the road. Both their vans were unlocked with keys in the ignition...lol. We were given a hire car and the C-max got towed to our local Ford garage. Turned out it was £1700 for a refurbished gearbox and £1200 to fit it. We sold the C-max. AA were awesome

      @NarrowboatWill  2 месяца назад +1

      The AA use these new ford wet cam belt vans. The guy said so many vans have failed cambelts. Anybody with any common sense would not put a rubber belt in oil. Such a poor design.

    I drive a 2004 Land Rover Defender. Like your van, the throttle is 'fly by wire' and caused me no end of problems where the engine would randomly go into 'limp-mode' and just tick over - not fun when you're in the middle lane of the M42.
    After months of internet searching I found the solution in an Australian 4x4 forum on page 10 of Google(!) In the Defender the cable leaves the throttle pedal, goes through the bulkhead, along the chassis then doubles back into the ECU, which is under the driver's seat. The point where the cable loops (to return back along the chassis) the cable was frayed, allowing water to get in, which sent a fault signal to the throttle. I found a bloke online who made up a cable for me and I re-routed the cable from the pedal straight to the ECU, keeping it all inside the cabin. Touch wood, the fault has never appeared again.
    Boring story, but hopefully it will give you some context when fitting your new part 😃
    Thanks again for your entertaining videos and hope things start to improve for you.

    • @NarrowboatWill
      @NarrowboatWill  2 месяца назад +2

      No. I love these stories.
      My throttle is purely electric with no throttle cables from the pedal to the ecu but I found on yt the wires go into the wiring block of death. A common fault with these vans. Ha ha ha. 😂 Stay tuned for that one.

      Him ? lol 😂mine was called no T because the T had fell off the Peugeot on back door, even my dog knew if I said no T van he would go and stand behind ready to get in lol. Have you had a value of van? They are making good money at moment, stick a years mot on HIM get a cheap runaround car that has a tow bar then you could put ya bike on back or hire a trailer if needed but save 100s of pounds a year. I think we get attached to them for the memories of places we have been in them. It’s only going to get more expensive as the years go by, look for cheap car before 2017 with cheap tax after 2017 cheap tax became a thing of the past, I have a little Suzuki zero tax the wife has fiesta 1,25 £35 road tax, we made sure we kept away from 1 litre eco boost due to wet belt like the transit
