You are too modest, Will. Some people think that being a mechanic means that you simply know how to "turn a wrench", but that's not true. Any trained eye can see that you have been doing this for most of your life. Keep up the good work!
Wow! Left us on a cliffhanger! “Tune in for the next episode! Can Captain Will replace the engine mount before Emperor Zargon and his evil hordes capture the Lancaster Canal? Is World Peace too much to ask? Find out in the next episode of ‘Captain Will - Defending the Galaxy by Narrowboat’ “
You are amazing at what you do Will! You are like a contortionist when it comes to looking after your engine(s), you will certainly be able to beat your grandchildren when it comes to playing Twister with them 😂. I am sure part 3 will be just as interesting, take care 😊
My hubby was a marine engineer and I used to help him on loads of jobs. Working in some really tight spaces was tough and yes, you do start to get all shaky from trying to balance and not stand on the wrong bit! Nice job Will 👍filthy glove thumbs up 😄
Totally agree with you Will taking the time to have a cuppa gives you the opportunity to relax and think things out before you create more work for yourself.😊
You are an amazing guy. Happy to get stuck in and give it a go. I feel your pain with the awkward angles, current sore back just from the alternator 😂😂😂
Get in, excellent work getting it all serviced and switched over! As many have said, you are way too modest with your skills and your determination to keep all your vehiclessss in the best shape. I’m sure you have saved many thousands in doing it all yourself for both yourself and your friends and family over the years and at least you know that you have done it properly. You should definitely give yourself a lil tap on the back 😉🤗
Have you thought of doing a collaboration with Danni and Jo he’s got a replacement engine for his boat that needs a rebuild and I’m sure he would appreciate the help as he’s having a bit of a rough time right now just a thought
Nice work, one thing off the list, another thing added to it! I fitted a Centaflex coupling, I have literally just a few millimetres clearance to be able to get the box off now! Access is a bit easier with a cruiser stern ;)
Great job Will, shame about the engine mount as well 😂😂 I’ve just rebuilt a raw water pump on my boat, just like you I’ve never tacked anything like it before. Saved a few quid too Great to watch thanks 👍👍
Morning Will. Think my earliet comment vanished somewhere in the IT ether. Enjoyed the vlog, mechanicing from an armchair is relaxing😂🤣. Did the newer box cure the noise you mentioned hearing on going into gear a while ago? Very satisfying when all the things that could go wrong do not and you complete a task successfully. Regards. Paul.
I thought my old box was on its way out, but I still get the same crunch sometimes. Same gear ratio but a much newer box. I can show my old box inside if you're interested?
@@NarrowboatWill yes, that would be good. Csn you work out the logic of why it crunches or is it just the design and sometimes its just not perfect. 👍👍
Enjoyed that Will, warra nice gearbox that turned out to be. That stern gland looks like it's gonna need re-packing nexy spring also. great job well done mate :)
You definitely shouldn't continually cruise on a narrowboat without a good general knowledge of mechanics, plumbing and electrical or you'll need the very top cover from the canal rescue service and definitely expect to have to call them 😂. Slightly above the basics to be striping, servicing, replacing the gearbox but you're a man of many talents(as I like to think I am). The amount of times I've done a job to only find that something else needed doing that would have been way easier to do whilst I was doing the original job 😤🤦😂. Thanks

Great work, I was worried the input shaft splines of the gearbox wouldn't fit your drive plate. Phew! wonder what is upgraded inside the gearbox? Perhaps larger bearings? as you say the case is slightly bigger. Those Poor engine mounts, I'm sure you replaced those before?
The only difference I can see is that the sump plug and dip stick locations have changed. There's probably a lot more science involved as well. I do strip my old gearbox if you're interested in watching that?
