I think we spent a day or two on ethnic hair and it was basically teaching to flat iron it into submission...no real texture break down. Thanks a bunch.

  • @The.Whoever
    @The.Whoever 5 лет назад +45

    I have fine, thin-medium density 4b/4c hair. I've had to learn to lighten up on products and not be so heavy handed.
    It's interesting being a natural with thin density. You're often seen as having damaged hair. As if it's not normal to not have a high density of hair. Especially when you have afro hair.

    • @aprilbrown7480
      @aprilbrown7480 5 лет назад +3

      The Whoever Girl!!! You just spoke a word...yes! My daughter is of the same type but all products claim to be for damaged strands but they are not. The strands are fine, dense (a lot per section, and healthy). My challenge is keeping it moisturizes without weighing it down. What products have you found to work best?

    • @The.Whoever
      @The.Whoever 5 лет назад +3

      @@aprilbrown7480 Aint it the truth.
      I use Knot today as my leave in. I either use it straight up or make the kimmaytube version. As for my moisturizer, right now, it's Camille rose aloe whipped Butter gel. I've found that I can use heavy moisturizers, I just have to make sure I'm not using a huge amount of it. I have a habit of being heavy handed. So if you're not already just try decreasing the amount of product or going for products w/ a lighter consistency. So if you use a quarter size amount per section, try making it a nickle or dime size amount. I have yet to try any lotions but they tend to be lighter than butters. Maybe give those a try or look for products that say "light weight". But try decreasing the amount of product first to see if that helps.
      Good luck, sis!

    • @The.Whoever
      @The.Whoever 5 лет назад +4

      @@aprilbrown7480 Oh I should also add that I use aloe Vera gel. I keep a spray bottle of half aloe gel and half water. I cant use water because it will open my cuticles. Ispray my hair w/ that and then I LCO using knot today, a bit of the Camille rose butter gel and seal it all in w/ a mix of mostly olive oil and a tad bit of castor.
      The key for me was to find products that seals my cuticles & keep the moisture in without being to heavy.

    • @aprilbrown7480
      @aprilbrown7480 5 лет назад

      The Whoever ok, ive seen Camille Rose products on the shelf but always thought them to be for silkier hair types. We’re more type 4 kinky coils than curls. It sound like you wear your hair out and we still tame our hair in braids or cornrows at all times. I’m a big Shea Moisturire fan, JBCO or Manuka Honey. Thanks so much for sharing. I’ll definitely be trying something new 🤗

    • @The.Whoever
      @The.Whoever 5 лет назад +2

      @@aprilbrown7480 No I actually keep my natural hair in plaits for 4wks at a time. I'll wear my hair out for up to a week after that and then put them back into plaits for 4wks. Camille rose is indeed for us type 4 girls too. There's a lot of 4c girls that use her products. My hair is the total opposite of silky lol. Sounds like we have similar hair. Im sure you can find type 4 girls on youtube reviewing her products. I use those products when my hair is both loose and in plaits. And yes. That Manuka honey is bomb. I love the smell. Wish they had it as a perfume.

But I have 4c hair naturally and when I was younger my hair would be normal and longer in the back but around my ears and back of the neck it would be so short! This makes so much sense as to why!! 2:50

  • @ItWasMyName1st

    I have fine hair, medium density and a z pattern. No curls or coils. I'm very prone to dryness, breakage and heat damaged. I also have a tender scalp. That being said, I Love My Hair! I don't wear it out often but when I do it's very pretty. I need a heavier product for elongation and twist outs if I want it to last more than a day.The shrinkage is real! I only do twist outs prior to my shampoo day. My beautician washes my hair every two weeks. Wash, condition, blow dry and three cornrows takes all of 30 minutes. Deep condition and trim days of course take longer.

      Wow, I can’t with some of these naturals online! 🤦🏽‍♂️ How are they going to bully you for your curl pattern, which you can’t control?!
      Curl pattern usually will help determine how moisture deficient your hair will be, but not the product you should use or the method of moisturizer, etc. porosity, texture, and density are all bigger factors when it comes down to that.

    Loved this video! I've been in the natural hair community for 20 years. I wish that I would have known years ago that my hair was fine. I just realized this a few years ago. It's really apparent when my hair is flat ironed too. I will definitely start getting trims more often because all of the problems you mentioned with fine hair happens to me. Thank you for breaking down texture.

    All I know is I have fine, densely packed hair that is tightly curled and coiled. IDK if it's 4a,b,c etc though, lol. It is curly unless i do something to prohibit the curls, but it's not "silky". And I've found everything you've said about fine hair care to be true.... handle with CARE.

    Looking fly Linwood! I learned a lot about my own hair with this video! I think my hair is somewhere between fine and medium. I think the hair in the front of my head has finer strands than the back of my hair. Is there a difference in the composition of fine strands vs medium vs coarse?

    Yesss! I hate when people try to tell me that because my hair is coily (3c) it’s not fine. My hair is not coarse at all and is a whole hassle especially when trying to protect my curls from straightening. My hair is easily heat damaged with the slightest heat.

    Thank you I think I have course hair as you can see a single starnd from more than arms length away. It's high porosity so I don't need so much product usually as it sinks into the strands easily..

    I've watched this twice lol and still learning about my hair. Now I just don't know how to tell if my hair is medium or course. I know it's not fine foe certain. It's also really dense,, which is throwing me off a bit from knowing.

    Thank you for this video. I have the hair of all of my ancestors on my head, with areas of thin wavy hair, some areas of straight hair. Mostly its very tightly coiled with the other types mixed in. I don’t like combing/brushing my hair. I think I know the difference now.

    Good morning! Looking very dapper. Thanks to your informative videos, I have learned how to properly moisturize my hair and it has grown to the biggest afro...🤣 People are always staring. Thank you. My question is...How often should we change our hair products to stop our hair from becoming accumulated to them? Or is this a " if it ain't broke don't fix it" situation?

    How do I know if my hair is fine/medium/course? Do i have to compare my hair strands with someone else? Because my hair has behaviours across the spectrum that you describe.

    WOW! All these years and I'm just realizing I actually have thin, dense hair. Since I was a child I've had people tell me I have thick course hair. My hair would grow fairly long but I would have problems with breakage especially around the edges. No wonder I'm always struggling with my hair! Years of too much heat, the wrong products as well as too much of it in my hair!
