      Relaxed Hair Tips (summary)
      1. Deep condition regularly (focus on moisture cuz relaxed hair is thirsty hair.)
      2. Turn down the heat! If you cannot dial it down, get a flat iron/curl iron you can regulate.
      3. Watch frequency of relaxers. STRETCH!
      4. Never overlap relaxers (and watch type of relaxers to avoid build up - avoid Calcium Hydroxide.)
      5. Bone straight hair is not the goal of a relaxer.
      6. Scalp health matters! Always base scalp.
      7. Relaxer is for the hair, not the scalp.
      8. Relaxer should not be applied to the edges first.
      9. Do not shampoo hair 3 days before a relaxer.
      10. The scalp is not an indicator of when the relaxer is gone professing. Processing time starts as soon as the relaxer touches the hair.
      11. Avoid caffeine going into your relaxer appointment! Makes scalp more sensitive.
      12. Do not wear a hat to appointment.
      13. Do not workout before a relaxer
      14. Opt for low heat styling.
      15. Maintain style by wrapping at night. Do not apply heat daily.
      16. Always sleep on satin or silk (these are moisture resistant fabrics.)
      17. PROFESSIONALLY: ask stylist about using OLAPLEX 1 in relaxer and OLAPLEX 2 post relaxer.
      18. Stay on top of trims.
      19. Relaxer and bleaching do not go together.
      20. Be gentle (wet hair tells all the truth dry hair lies about.)
      21. Detangle hair starting at from the ends.
      22. Relaxed hair is high porosity.
      23. Use heat protection (isopropyl alcohol and SD alcohol free.)
      24. Do not be afraid of silicones after moisturizing hair.
      25. Hair should not be relaxed prior to puberty.
Additional tips not listed: medical and psychiatric conditions (thyroid disease, lupus, alopecia , depression, anorexia etc) impact hair.
My tip: Puberty is not a license to process!

That part about being NOT judgmental is true, it's appreciated. The fact that some "professional" hairstylist come very rude to relaxed hair is quite shocking. We all choose how we'd like our hair, whether that's relaxed, natural, blue, blonde, baby hairs or none just be professional. So I'm thankful for his positive and professionalism.

Just because you’re enjoying your natural hair journey doesn’t mean you have to tear up someone else’s journey.” He said it all there. I like the non judgmental approach towards relaxed hair. I’m over the people with natural hair who act like they’re the poster child of good health or the “real black people.” My hair is relaxed, thick, long and healthy because I take care of it by incorporating over 90% of his tips. Having relaxed hair is my choice. I love being a black woman and having a relaxer does not change that. Sorry I had to vent.

These tips are 1000% spot on. Relaxed girl here, still loving the creamy crack for well over 30 years and my hair is super healthy. I am at 12 to 14 weeks for a relaxer. First, having a fabulous hairdresser is key. When Covid hit I was forced to deal with hair that had not been relaxed in well over a year. During that time I relied on the relief and hydration of natural hair products gave me. As Lindwood says, (I love that he and my cousin share the same name!❤) hydration is the key. Most people believe If you get a relaxer you are done with your hair. As your hair is your crowning joy why on earth would you not tend to it and treat it like gold? I only use heat on my hair after wash and blow-dry. I always wrap my hair in silk and/or satin. I pin curl my hair or use Spoolies. I don't weigh my scalp down with heavy oils as your head needs to breathe. I only use product when necessary. Do all the tips in this video and you will have lovely locks always.

Yessss! Shout out to the girly whose comment led to this content. I've known for a while that moisture and protein balance matter for both relaxed and natural hair - so most of your content has always been helpful to me. Most of your tips are already a part of my hair routine, but the biggest takeaways are: the sensitive scalp chemical difference, that coarse hair is really fine and how to use silicones. I live in Houston and sweat in my head, so the humidity has me at war with frizz. So many products to combat frizz have silicones so I haven't been able to find a solution to the frizz. Your tips on how to use them are much appreciated!

I was always led to believe by my mother that she had to relax my hair because I didn't want it combed as a child. So I grew up believing that my natural hair would be so hard to handle. My hair stylist for years kept telling me that my hair would not be hard to take care as a natural. I am now in my late 40s and have just stopped relaxing my hair and I can't believe that my hair is not hard to handle as my mom led me to believe. So I 100 per cent agree with you with waiting and letting people decide once they are older to get their hair relaxed.

I wish I had this advice when I wore my hair relaxed for 20 years (scalp burns, over processing, relaxing prior to puberty, shedding, ...I experienced all that). Now that I've been natural for 16 years, I've realized that education is key. One is not "easier" than the other. I was around 8 or 9 when I had my first relaxer. Additionally, we start so much self hatred with children and their hair when we relax when they are so young.

I roller set to dry on medium heat which takes forever as I am mid-back but I make it work. I have stretched my relaxers to twice a year and I get a deep protein treatment then. No permanent color and I trim whenever it needs it. You are the GOAT for all hair care but as a relaxed girl thanks for the special attention. I just watched this on my TV and I remember seeing one of your first videos on how to revive a wig. I know this comment may go unnoticed because there’s so many comments here but I just want to say thank you! I was considering getting a relaxer for my hair Because my hair grow best when I run through it every four days… It’s odd, but it really is a thing. Having natural hair for the past 11 years has made it such a tedious thing to do. I also realized that while on this natural journey when my hair was moisturized, I completely went platinum blonde once, and my hair was so moisturized and so taken care of that the hairstylist who was going to give me a haircut Swore up and down my hair was damaged. And when he touched my hair, he was shocked that it was not. This video reminded me how important it is to moisturize my hair here on the West Coast. It also noted the importance of having that hair bonnet nearby. I found new products, shampoo and conditioner that I’m going to try, and I’m absolutely going to find some satin rollers! I thank you for this video🙏🏾

Thank you for this. A few years ago I relaxed my hair and my licensed cosmetologist relaxed my hair and left it on for so long. I asked her how long is supposed to sit, she said until my scalp burns…. I had been natural for about 12 years at the time and I even knew that was false. I pretended to be burning. She rinsed it out and my hair was boooone straight. My hair was so straight I didn’t need to flat iron at all, and my hair felt gummy. I was so upset because I had been a client for a while and I trusted her. I cut my hair and restarted. Never went back to her again.

Im so glad you said that about the about of times people can get their hair relaxed. I will only get mine about 3 times a year. Had a lady do my relaxer and it didn't even take. I wasted a $100 just for it to still be frizzy and unmanageable for me. I work to much to be fully natural so that's why I get my relaxers to make it easier on me.

Can you please help in suggest any products I can use on my scalp. Especially now that is in such a sensitive and damaged state. I said I will go natural

Thank you so much for sharing these 25 tips. I had a hair stylist that used no lye relaxers on my hair and over time I noticed this weird white cast on my hair. My stylist and I couldn’t figure out what it was or how to get rid of it. Now after watching this video, I know that it was calcium buildup. Not sure why my stylist didn’t know that, but thanks for educating me on what it is and how to fix it. ❤

@@its_ebony The sweat made my hair very dry and even coarser so it was impossible to comb on a daily basis and a silk press would only last a day or I had to rearrange my workout routine. It became too much of a hassle and constantly wearing braids wasn’t good either. With all of the products on the market and your texture of hair, you may have a totally different and much better experience being natural.

Thank you Linwood again for this video. I’m returning after leaving comments when this first released. I was using a “no-lye” and couldn’t figure out why my hair was a mess. I switched to a regular relaxer and boom, what a difference. I also began stretching past the 6-8 into 10-12. Boosted the hydration and moisture, and in between conditioning. Now my hair is growing, no more se- through ends, and no more crazy looking hair. I deep condition twice between touch-ups. I became disappointed with hairdressers. I was going to one for almost a year, she allowed her assistant to work on my gray coverup while she attended to another client, within weeks I noticed my hair breaking like crazy. Unfortunately, this was at the time I was relocating, so I could not go back after the initial realization of the breakage. She acknowledged the color may have stayed on too long, and would treat my hair. Unfortunately, I was moving 4 states away. New city, no one wanted to touch my hair. I went through that on my own. When I permed it again, I chose the “no-lye”, but then remembered your channel. So, thank you again. It’s been a journey, but you have been a fountain of advice and real help. ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

Thank you for this! I was feeling a little slighted because I am relaxed but still follow you faithfully. My take away was the staying away from coffee, and stop wearing hats before relaxer. I did have a bad reaction with Olaplex the very first time I used it. It was like it caused protein overload! I assumed I used it incorrectly or it didn’t mix well with other products I used (Giovanni hydrating shamp/0laplex 3, that’s it). I didn’t return to it. Again thank you for the info. The only thing left that I struggle with is I really can’t tell when I need protein or moisture, so I just use moisture and occasionally use the ROUX porosity in my conditioner.
