Mate since I had that alignment coaching session my game has improved massively can’t believe I was standing wrong the whole time until you told me. Still a way to improve but my darts are coming. Thanks mate 🎯
I watched this video a year ago and it helped me so much! Last couple months my darts have decreased in accuracy so much went from 55-60 avg down to low 40’s coming back to watch this again has brought me right back to where I was hitting my first 70avg and allowing me to finally enjoy myself again and not get so frustrated. Thank you so much.
Great advice. Bought a dart board a few weeks ago and couldn't hit a barn door. Started watching your channel last week........what a difference. My forearm was at 45 degrees to start with but now its perfectly vertical (felt weird to start with) but what a massive improvement. Ta pal. Best wishes from Motherwell, Scotland.
Great videos with adivce in easy to follow method. I started only using it today with my new darts. After an hour practicing I had another small session and noticed I was straighter with better grouping, 5 140's in 8 throws!
Great advice! Really enjoy your videos and focus on mechanics and methods of pinpointing my many flaws in my throw ha ha. Thanks for all the advice and content.
Thank you..thank you...thank you. I studied your wrist movement. How concise and relax you are. Remarkable improvement in my grouping. Finding I end with a limp wrist and a slightly pointed index finger after the release and follow through! Your style of instructions is top notch!!
I had a line which I thought was central however using your alignment technique my line was 2 inches out I have now created a new central line on my oche and this has made a big difference to my accuracy and consistency thanks for the video popped a sub
Hi again STTP, hope you well. Really great vid . I think anyone who plays should watch this & most definitely anyone who is having a wee problem with their throw. Great advice about getting your throw to the point where you'll know when it's "ON" & you'll also know when it's "OFF" & also what to do to fix it. Seriously good vid mate , cheers 👍🎯🎯👍
another awesome, informative video. between your videos and a friend of mine, you've helped me get out of a mechanical funk that i have been in. add this video to the win column. i feel much more comfortable and aligned to the board now that i tested this out. i appreciate you. will be looking to donate some money to you for your content. cheers from across the pond! 🤙🏽
Personally I do not get concerned with averages ,my confidence comes from perfecting the alignment etc plus the Eric Bristow mindset . Great video buddy ,keep it going.
Thank you so much for teaching this. I’ve been told that no one can really teach one how to play darts, as in there is no theory in this sports. You show that their saying is not true. I’m so happy you provide real support here!
Your videos have helped me so immensely. My average has gone from 38 to 46 in 2.5 weeks. I tell my webcam darts friends about you. Much respect and appreciation from Niagara Falls Canada 🇨🇦
this video gave me good tips to tweak my throw. realised my elbow was flaring out on the throw because things were misaligned. hope it'll be better after watching this, and putting things into practice. thanks!
it took me a year but today i finally got into a stance that make everything you said make sense. thank you for your videos as they gave me a reference for what was right. best darts coaching series out on RUclips.
Thanks! Great video. I stand in the middle and whenever I block treble 20 I always move to the left and not right because I'm better from the left. When I did this alignment thing my arm is actually straight if I'm standing slightly to the left, meaning I should stand there from the start.
Hey STTPD, thanks for this video. I think iv'e become lazy with my throw, hooking them in to the 5's. This will now be corrected, much appreciated mate. 👍🎯🎯👍
Thanks for the video, i filmed my throw and i struggle to get my arm straight, which means my arm comes across my body as i throw, i will try this to try and line up so my arm is more aligned 👍
Thanks a lot for your videos and greetings from Finland. I returned to Darts after 25 years and it worked pretty well. How you see this kind of aiming when you need to throw opposite side of board? I should every time move either front leg position or move whole position another side?
Maybe I should try and buy a video analysis, because I can't seem to improve my game and I think it's a combo of my grip and release that is the problem. Use a 4 finger firm claw grip so have an issue with releasing consistently, but it's the only grip that feels natural for me. I grip a bit like mensur suljovic. Currently throwing with Luke brass brass bombers, winmau majestics and mission crypt m1s since bomber style darts feels best for me.
Yes im a full time coach, the link to my website is below. I offer a throw analysis service or Web Session. I also have a home office if yiu want to hold the sessions in person. I'm based in South Wales SA10 9HR. straighttothepointdarts.co.uk/
Amazing video ! I'm just playing for about a month and I felt like I was doing something 'off' with my arm, so I started filming myself and it looked awful lol. It's hard to get this alignment right, but I'll get there. A problem I have though and I have never seen anyone else mention this, is that I have like a minor pop on the inside of my elbow every time my arm goes from full stretch to pull up to aim, it's a tendon that pops in place or something and annoys me greatly. I wonder if anyone else has this issue when playing darts...
You may be using the elbow to much in the throw and possibly causing a hyperextension. This isn't good at all for longevity. Keep the elbow as still and as relaxed as you can. Imagine your renting it on a the when throwing and just use your forarm, wrist and fingers. It's an old John Lowe trick. :)
Great Videos thank you so much great advice and so helpful i will try to practice what yiu demostrate in the videos...could i Ask you please whats your darts set ..what darts do you use and stems and flights they look a lovely set up many thanks keep up the great work for allus budding dart players Well Done 👏
Hi buddy :) I use short Mission Aluminium stems and Ruthless Rx4 pear flights with my own customers made darts. I took the darts of sale, but I do still have a few sets available if you ever want a price on a set. :)
Great tips thanks dude. I throw some really good darts but then some awful ones, how can I become more consistent dude? Also, I’m going to buy some new darts but unsure what weight to get, how do I know please? Thank you
Hello. I've been trying your tip before each practice session but my elboe and shoulder still moves whenever i throw. My feet is horizontal and I always try to keep my hands on the 20's but always fail everytime as well. My body moves slightly to the side everytime I position myself to throw. Got any advice?
Try and imagine your elbow is resting on a table, don't worry about what your hitting at first. Just concentrate on getting it right. With the side to side movement is it on the throw or between throws. If it's between then it's properly your retrieval of the darts.
I've watched this video so many times now, and I'm still not quite sure how this works. Is the start position with your feet parallel to the oche, and finding the alignment like Peter Wright or MVG? Or how is the foot position at the start, and when you say "stand as central as possible" is it my arm that has to be central of the T20 or my feet? Hopefully you can help, and overall a great channel to follow. 👌🏻🎯
Your arm. No matter we're you stand you need the line from your elbow and shoulder pointing down the same path you want the dart to fly. So, of your arm is central down the oche, your elbow and shoulder should point under the double 3.
Great Vid! I have a question though as a lefty is my body meant to be left or right of centre, as i am right and open my body but everyone tells me i am on the wrong side??
It's more common for left handed players to stand on the left hand side but in order to find the center you'll need to stand over to the right of the oche slightly. :) I always recommend staying central if in doubt but good alignment can be found form any position on the oche and that's fair more important. 👌 :)
Hey Bud, love your vids! Question. Im a SL player with, as you explain it, a A game of 110-120ish. Hit a 9 once in my life. But my A game is like godmode, it hardly ever happens. B game probably about 80-85ish this happens alot at home, but not as much in SL/tourneys. C is where Im normally at like 70-75. I Practice every day for about 2/3 hours. Always starting with 10 mins throwing at the bull. Followed by 121 to 140 CO in 6 darts. Followed by bob 27. And then play lvl 14 dartbot on dartcounter which is about 80-85 average. Breaks like every hour 5-10 mins. But my question is.. What do I do when I throw my D game in practice or SL? Really frustrates me and really question myself/throw/release/stance/darts etc. My D game is not really really bad, average wise, but for me a killer for my confidence. When I have these days kick in it makes me throw rubbish for like a couple of weeks untill I find my form back again. I want to practice every day, but im not sure if I need to do this when Im throwing like this. (Seen the vid about this that you are just practicing rubbish darts and thats a no go) Got any tips about this, because I really want to put in the work daily and keep pushing to get my game to 90-95 average consitent? Thnkx in Advance buddy keep it up!
Brilliant question, I always like to make notes about my throw when I'm playing well. When I'm having a practice like that I take a brake, read my notes and when I return to the board I stop thinking about where the darts are going and consecrate just on my technique and feel. You will normally find out what has changed even if it's just the timing. When you do, write it down in your notes for next time. I always use note on my phone so I can do this in events if needed.
Sir at first am sry for my english! But one question: When you start aiming and you close your right eye, do you see your hand or can you see the tripple 20? I´m very unsure if its right to see my hand and not the tripple 20 -.- What do you think? Is it a problem or not? Thanks for your video and happy new year
Geat stuff, do you conscientiously use finger action, or hand action, I mean forcibly open hand in a pushing action or just not hnk about it and just naturally throw it?
My major problem is I first put my arm up my elbow is way out to the right so I have to bring it in .in doing that I am looking at where my elbow is before I throw and I think looking at my elbow is taking my focus off looking at my target is there anyway I can correct my arm knowing it is straight while concentrating on the target?will try the alignment tip I have long arms and don't stand side on more diagonal to full on and stand to the left as my arm is more level with the T20 bull 3 etc so glad you've said it's arm centre not body/feet etc
You can find good alignment from anywhere on the oche but some places are easier than others depending on the player. The key to good alignment is to keep your shoulder and elbow pointing down the same path you want the dart to fly, this way, as long as you flick straight and keep the elbow still, it's all down one line together. :)
1:48 - “turn your forearm out” … could you clarify this for me? I love this video and I’m trying to replicate the steps in practice. This particular step, do you simply mean lift your forearm? I don’t see a turn here but it does appear your wrist moves slightly as your fingers adjust. Thank you!
Don't lift the forarm. I ment, try to get the palm of your hand and elbow facing towards the board. This is the position you need to find at the point if release, so by aiming with your arm already in that position, you shouldn't have to turn the elbow and bend the wrist when you throw. :)
Any advice for an arm that points at what would be say 5 minutes to 12 ? Its impossible for me to straighten my arm due to several wrist breaks and 2 shoulder dislocations.
Follow up question: Do I want to turn my forerarm out as much as possible? When I turn it out all the way, I can feel some tension in my wrist which gives me a sense of stability.
Hey, i cant seem to aim the tip of the dart straight, it keeps pointing to the left, i remember before dartitis i had it straight but now for some reason i cant, any tips? btw nice video!
how come you have no videos on the back swing? i feel there are so many ways to do it. short, deep - infront of the face, on the side of the ear - low, high - tail down or not
Getting a good drawback is all about timing and the grrip, it's very advanced and it's one of my biggest advantages over other coaches. When I work with professionals 85% of what we work on is timing. I do coach it, but I can't give it away for free, I only coach it on aessions and throw analysis videos where I own the rights to the footage. I know it's probably not the answer you wanted but I'd rather be truthful, it's my full job and I have to protect some aspects. :) Sorry, buddy.
Wow! My average at the beginning of this year was 41.68. After this video, my averages slowly started creeping up. Was around the 46 mark within a week. 3 weeks later my last 3 matches 54 and 56 avg. My A game has gone from 77’s to an 83 and my D game has gone from 36 to 41. Thanks pal
My biggest issue now is after battling dartitis (still fighting )my alignment is completely off, my elbow is at the right angle but isn't in line with my body which means I'm covering my face when I throw and it's really uncomfortable finding that old alignment.
Try lowing the elbow, and if you have to keep the angle on the forarm, male sure you keep that angle like Lewy Williams. Don't try to straighten up during the motion of the throw as your elbow will move inward.
Make sure your elbow and shoulder are both pointing down the same path you want to dart to fly. The keep the elbow still and throw keeping the same shape of your hand all the way through. It's very difficult but make the game much easier once achieved. :)
@Straightdarts I've seen improvement already with the twist of the forearm so wrist facing more towards the board. My arm come up to start aim at 90 degrees ,im slowing down my draw back aswell as that can sometimes send me of line. But I got my 1st false 180 yesterday T20 t20 miss tried miss again t20
Definitely, practicing with three darts is bad enough. The hardest and most important dart is your first, using multiple dart sets, your practicing it less. You also tend to speed up. Always stop between throws to mimic the speed of the game. Then, implement a preshot routine and throw. Feet, head, pickup the dart. :)
my wrist keeps turning as I begin my release. without an dart I can keep everything straight but with an dart it is impossible not to turn my wrist at the start of the release. this makes my dart fly completely horizontal. thinking about quitting darts
@@Straightdarts thank you for the reply but my elbow is also dead still it is only my wrist that turns it is so frustrating. It is just impossible for me to keep it still.
@Niels Van wingerden You sure it's not moving sideways as you go through? That's the main cause. Could also be a turn on the drawback. If you do this, you need to unturn and flick straight. Other than that alignment. If your arm isn't traving down the correct path needed to hit the target, your hand eye coordination can kick in, and the wrist will bend to compensate. :)
Gary Anderson. Rather than setting the throw up with good alignment, he keep the elbow out and stands front on. This means he has to bring the elbow in on the throw and find perfect alignment by the point of release. The gives him about 0.2 to 0.3 of second to get his eye, the dart and the gape between his first finger and thumb down the same path. The hand eye coordination to achieve this is way out the realms of most players on a consistent basis. Anderson is one of the most naturally gifted players every, absolutely unbeatable on his day, and yet he only has two world titles in over 20yrs as a pro. He one of the absolute best, but not consistent compared to those with more basic throwing action, like Taylor, Lowe, Adams, MvG, RvB ect. Its its possible to be good without good alignment if you very gifted, but you'll never be as consistent as possible. Most of us wouldn't even be able to sting a few good legs without it, I definitely couldn't 😂
Thank u and my alignment has came better and improved by ur teachings.Pls do a video on preparation for a tournament.Wen practicing all goes well but in a game it goes haywire and winning games I lose🤦♂️pls advise.
You may be practicing to much. Make sure you take a day or two off very week and start to develop a match day preparation. I'll make a video on how I warm up for an event as soon as possible. :)

Sir at first am sry for my english! But one question: When you start aiming and you close your right eye, do you see your hand or can you see the tripple 20? I´m very unsure if its right to see my hand and not the tripple 20 -.- What do you think? Is it a problem or not? Thanks for your video and happy new year
Thats not normal, but this video should help. :) ruclips.net/video/jbcgmzRYHSc/видео.htmlsi=bgrFSVkr1reb66PD
Geat stuff, do you conscientiously use finger action, or hand action, I mean forcibly open hand in a pushing action or just not hnk about it and just naturally throw it?
I always use the fingers and open the hand up. Sometimes I forget to draw back with the fingers and my darts don't go as well. :)
So do you Look trough the dart? Do you have the dart in your vision? Or is the dart a bit to the side and you got full clear vision without the dart?
Always try to keep the dart under the line of sight, your elbow is probably a bit to high. Look down the flight and over the shaft to the Target. :)
@@Straightdarts Thank you! 🙂
Any advice for an arm that points at what would be say 5 minutes to 12 ? Its impossible for me to straighten my arm due to several wrist breaks and 2 shoulder dislocations.
Try keeping the elbow in, still pointing under the double three, just at angle across the oche. Keep the elbow in and still. :)
Follow up question: Do I want to turn my forerarm out as much as possible? When I turn it out all the way, I can feel some tension in my wrist which gives me a sense of stability.
Yeah that definitely helps. :)
Turns out i am turning the elbow quite a bit to the right aa Well as Lifting upwarda Düring the backsqing
Hey, i cant seem to aim the tip of the dart straight, it keeps pointing to the left, i remember before dartitis i had it straight but now for some reason i cant, any tips? btw nice video!
You need to turn your arm out more, get the little finger opened out.
how come you have no videos on the back swing? i feel there are so many ways to do it. short, deep - infront of the face, on the side of the ear - low, high - tail down or not
Getting a good drawback is all about timing and the grrip, it's very advanced and it's one of my biggest advantages over other coaches.
@@Straightdarts no, that makes sense. i plan on purchasing some soon.
Thanks pal
Excellent improvement 👏 well done buddy! :)
@@Straightdarts I'll try that, thank you! ♥️
My throw works OK but my hand and arm pull to the left when I throw and I can't seem to get rid of this. Any tips ?
Cheers your elbow isn't rotating. Keep the elbow still and the same shape of your hand as your go though. :)
I struggle with that end band position compared to holding dart like I'd have twist wrist to end in that position
But I got my 1st false 180 yesterday
T20 t20 miss tried miss again t20
I practice with 3 set of darts but not all same weight, so is that a no no?
Definitely, practicing with three darts is bad enough. The hardest and most important dart is your first, using multiple dart sets, your practicing it less. You also tend to speed up. Always stop between throws to mimic the speed of the game. Then, implement a preshot routine and throw. Feet, head, pickup the dart. :)
Hi. Can you help with timing my throw?.
Thanks for the tips so far.
Yes, I'll make a video when I can. :)
I noticed while you played you had the straightest alignments of any player. 😊
Thank you buddy. 😊
your arm length is shorter mine is longer i wish i could pull the dart under my eye like you
my wrist keeps turning as I begin my release. without an dart I can keep everything straight but with an dart it is impossible not to turn my wrist at the start of the release. this makes my dart fly completely horizontal. thinking about quitting darts
It's caused by unwanted movement of the elbow. If the elbow moves inward, your wrist will bend the other way. Keep it still. 💯:)
Show me a pro who's alignment is off
Gary Anderson.
That’s for talented gift who had it ,but it’s the skill that need to be learned and practiced by listening and learning 🤗
