    Same as me really took me 6 years to get an apprenticeship. I was in and out of factories and thought this ain’t for me and went back into plumbing and found my employer in a local petrol station and asked and got lucky. My advice just ask and ask because if you dont ask you don’t get👌 I’m now studying my NVQ Level 3 and Havnt looked back.

    Wish them both best of luck. You can always tell if they want to be there and eager to learn and they both seem to have that. I do mainly first fix work around London and thinking of getting a proper apprentice again next year. The main thing is making sure they have the right attitude, have seen some that just don't give a toss and others that bend over backwards sweeping floors etc to show they are eager.

    Allen your a star - a good man for helping these young men. Nice to hear a Yorkshire accent. As a Batley lad living in the USA for the last 10years quite a lot of similarities but many differences in plumbing, electrics and construction. Pipe thread sealant is called pipe dope here and there are various types some better than others. While not a plumber I am a bit of an obsessive DIYer learning from pros, including tips in doing a clean and neat job. Next level now I am getting into doing things by international plumbing codes. I am lucky to be able to afford equipment to do a good job. Full of admiration for you mate.

    Took me sending out 100 cv’s to every local company I could find.
    Got 3 replies, one telling me good luck, two offering work.
    Worked for £20 a day to get some experience.
    Too many people think they can jump on some 6 week fast track course and then be out there making loads of money.
    Fingers crossed they get a proper apprenticeship.
    After I got a bit of experience I got myself a apprenticeship with British Gas and have been installing for 9 years now. People may knock them but back then it was a great apprenticeship and I learnt a lot.

    Hat's off to you....Because of the way education is structured, young people leave school & college with a head full of all sorts of rubbish & when they enter the workplace they get such a crap chance to gain experience then we wonder why they get into trouble. Give a youth a bunch of money & he will spend it on beer n birds...give a youth a trade with apprenticeship & he will become a skilled trade worker who can earn his own money for life to get it right & make a happy family. Employers tell us that they can't get the trades they need but so often they do not take any responsibility for equipping those employees with the skills they need...trade school can only teach you so much...

    How come they don't do any soldering in their first year at college? Surely that's basic plumbing skills, or is soldering seen as an old way to do things?

    • @AllenHart999
      @AllenHart999  4 года назад +1

      No idea to be honest. I would guess they do health and safety.

    • @robthesamplist

      The first year is such a load of bs health and safety and principle theory you wouldn't believe the bs that they have to teach now with ladders and platforms etc...

    • @Clicksystems
      @Clicksystems 4 года назад

      Instead of making the health and safety stuff part of a “plumbing course” which has nothing to do with the plumbing itself but rather safe working in general, and considering you do all that health and safety and if you want to work on a site still need to do health and safety for a Cscs card.
      Why not just stick to the plumbing with the plumbing course and then do the CSCS card with the health and safety afterwards as a compulsory extra?
