James I really love these videos, I've subscribed... I'm learning to be a plumber from scratch at 33. It's hard finding time to study, but your videos certainly help
I've been running a 9kw heat pump for the last 5 years on a flow temperature of 45 degrees and its the best move I ever made and never had to upgrade the rads. The living room is a lovely ambiant 25 oC.
I work for a housing association and we’ve binned fibre washers for use on hot and cold water connections in our properties and now use nitrile O Rings, we were sick of them failing, especially on WC connections.
Awesome videos, my go to channel/resource for plumbing tips for over a few year now. Keep up the good work, in-depth explanations, and real world examples....nice one!
Love it James, just done my complex hot water module at collage and recently got my g3 unvented qualification. I was able to identify a lot of the parts and relate to the learning and cylinder build I did last week.
I'm not a plumber ,but found that very I interesting James. I've done loads of plumbing jobs at home and understood all what you described. Defo like the S plan rather than the Y and messing about with mid position valves .
Good video... i am currently a l3 apprentice however i am ashamed to say i still struggle with identification so this helped alot but i have browsed your channel you dont have many videos of boiler identification as this is what i fit on a daily as i need a nudge in knowing what im looking at sometimes also conversions if possible... the way you explain in the video is how i learn best sort of a in the deep end explanation “this is this” like visual style i like it
I worked in a supermarket once and recall them having a central bank of boilers fitted. The toilets and canteen were right at the other end of the building, it was the longest secondary return in the universe. But when they filled it up it had about 30 leaks on it right through the warehouse. Think stevie wonder did the soldering.
Forgot to to mention the two expantion vessels up top there, (white and grey), for the hot water tanks I'd guess.... The singing part was a good addition !
Hi james mike here from ireland l have two radiators theres air in the systems the bleed screw on the rads is rounded off when i try to bleed the rads the key just turns and doesn't grip the bleed screw is there any way around this or do i have to get new rads thanks mike
In the corner of the world where I live in, the rads have a thread where you can screw the bleed screw component...part....whatever you wanna call it, which is a separate little thingy that contains the blead screw, and has an O-ring seal, so you won't have to mess around with hemp and PTFE tape and all that, and if the blead screw is damaged somehow, you can unscrew the part, put in a new one, and have the rad working again....OR......until you get the new part, you can bleed the radiator by unscrewing the part from the thread on the radiator. Something like this : postimg.cc/zLmthJd0 Here, it is installed on a 1/2" T section at the inlet of a radiator, (serving another purpose), but those same vent/bleed screws are also placed on the other side for bleeding.

@@plumberparts I'm not a plumber but I do alot of DIY, I don't mess with boiler or gas. Your vids have helped with everything else. Combi boiler packed in at moment so asking the right questions at quote stage regarding magnaclean, protector treatment and flushing. Top job James, now "hold tight"!
The sound track cracks me up . But if you spent less time singing in your shed and more time finishing the bathroom/ store room / black hole 🕳. You might actually finish your house !!! (Emily asked me to say that )
hi James. I want to add a programmable time switch for my combi boiler as only have the mechanical one on front. 2 zones, rads only. which type would you fit? not a nest as too expensive. :-) great vid as always
Hi mate, love all your videos but PLEASE can you mix your vocal audio louder and turn down music etc. Probably fine for people watching on their smartphones or laptops but when watching on a smart TV your vocals are too quiet and when I turn the volume loud enough that I can hear you clearly, when music starts it’s way too loud! Not a problem with my setup as 99% of other youtube videos audio is fine so please consider making your vocal louder than backing music etc! The music starting at 4:38 is a prime example.
3 possible causes off the top of my head It's either water hammer (shock arrestor needs fitting) Or the boiler is kettling as there is no pump overrun (needs wiring correctly) or possibly the expansion vessel on the invented cylinder has failed (needs servicing or replacing)
@@thornhillplumbing its just when hot water switches off. A loud pipe clang...new boiler but was happening before that...but...after new bathroom fitted last year...just getting worse....
I still can't get my head round the idea of a "balanced" pressure reducing valve. I make my own "balanced" pressure reducing valves out of an normal "unbalanced" pressure reducing valve and a "T" with one pipe to the cold and another pipe to the hot cylinder. They are both "balanced" because they are connected together !
In a way, that exactly what's happening. A combination valve is a 'combination' of pressure reducing, two outlets, a PRV outlet and the option for an expansion vessel in one lump of brass...that's all!
Hi I have a intergas combi system I have had it for about one year without a problem until now I had one rad turn off trv and lock shield end as we wasn't using that room, now we have start using that room I have turn the rad back on (open the valve to the right settings) now my system keep getting air in and dumping pressure though my overflow pipe Can you help and may make a video on how I have fix it thanks tom Boiler ( intergas 28/24)
@@alibakir7751 Hi thanks for your reply I can't get to my expansion vessel because I Fort that it needed re charging with a manual pump but there is no valve on it just a bleed screw Have you worked on a intergas boiler thanks tom
Why is this system so fragmented? Wouldn't it be much simpler to have a single hot water source? Isn't there a better way to provide high capacity hot water to a hotel? How many hotel rooms would you feed from each hot water unit?
