James, definitely would love to hear about hooking a wood stove with back boiler to a heating system (specifically underfloor please!!) Have been looking about on the Internet for a while and not had much luck so please fill in the gaps.
We got a 210ltr tank upstairs. Immersion used to be run off a Horstmann timer (absolutely 💩) just fitted an FST77 Timeswitch by Timeguard(7 day set up), working a treat so far & a lot cheaper than old timer, very easy to use too. 👍
Please do a video on log burner installs with back boilers. I have one and have no idea how it is plumbed in but would love to know more do that I could make it work more efficient.
Have you done any videos on pex vs copper pipe? I've moved into a house that has pex throughout but I've only seen you use copper for bathrooms and showers.
There's a certain plumbing forum where if you ask "How does my heating system work" you'll immediately be scolded and told to call a G3 engineer, and here you are just dishing it all out 😄
Love your vids james, Tado is the future, I've reduced my heating use not bills by their use alone significantly by only heating what we need to, it's made a massive difference. Nice gaff by the way.
One of the biggest issues with the Tado system is that if you loose internet connection, then it won’t run any of the schedules that you had set, each TRV will stay at its current setting. This concerned me, so I went the Drayton Wiser direction instead. But yeah it’s definitely the future
@@ryanjames2962 I agree I have the same issue with TADO and a change to the way the comms are monitored and re-established would fix this, can't be that hard to fix. How does the Drayton system compare
nice home with plenty of space. i have a 4 bed townhouse but it's not got the space you have - lucky you :) how many litres of oil do you go through a year? I can manage about 650 a year but that is with economising spend on oil. I am also interested in location of the ugly tank so any videos on that are welcome. thanks for helping us all with the education & the humour.
interesting thoughts on the trv and room thermostat we have a tado thermostat and tado trvs in the same space but I believe you can set one as the master device
I visited a friend in the states and his neighbour living off grid had a wood burner and around the chimney he had a coiled ½” copper pipe, it actually looked quite cool to despite being hot. That was yu hot water, our sympathies to Ger rettah
Currently have a Grant combi. Which current oil combi would you recommend? Would you recommend switching to a system boiler if the extra space could be found? Thanks
I have a weird boiler problem. A few times at night, though rarely, we've heard the boiler (in our bedroom cupboard) come on and assumed someone was downstairs using the hot tap. The other night, about 1.30am, I heard it come on and decided to look in the cupboard because I didn't hear anyone go downstairs. On the boiler both the hot water AND radiator lights were on and boiler fully fired up. I went downstairs but everyone's in bed so no tap was running. I found the control button, that was off, and been off since Feb. This is mid June. The downstairs radiators were getting hot and by the time I got upstairs the bedroom radiator was fully HOT. Then it went off by itself. I don't think this has anything to do with frost control as it was a very warm night and I don't think we have that feature anyway. It's a Veismann boiler. Is it breaking down or did it get a signal from some other person's control, or have I got a gremlin in the machinery? Thanks for any advice. I've googled but there seems to be a number of conflicting reasons for this mystery.
James, that automatic toilet sensor must be super sensitive if your ***k set it off 🤣🤣🤣. 10 years lifespan for a boiler? My old Thorn Olympic did 38 years! I only changed it in 2019 because I wanted better efficiency & to get rid of the permanent pilot light the thermocouple for which needed replacing every year!! I have recently fitted a new Wilo Yonos Pico smart pump, Tado controls, replacement Y plan 3 -port valve (body & head) & a new SS indirect HW cylinder to replace the old copper IMI Hercules tank - also 38 years old. Some replacement rads over the years as well. Only the tanks in the loft, pipework & a few radiators remain from the original system. I have solar coming in April which will include an Eddie to heat the HW via the immersion heater. Storage Batteries also. If you are on oil, & given the price of it, I would have thought you might have gone for a Air2water Heat Pump system by now? Keep the vids coming. Always informative & entertaining.
I have a forty year old Trianco oil boiler, about 83% eff(if I can be bothered to change the jet, and clean it). "Efficiency" of modern boilers, needs to factor in the cost of replacement and the longevity of the new boiler. New condensing boiler just dont last like the non condensing type. They are also less efficient as they have more parts to go wrong, then they are expensive as well. I'm just not happy with the push for non condensing"super eff" ozone friendly rubbish that the government put out.....for the sake of probably 10% more efficiently. Bottom line is the customer pays for this, not the government( they always make us pay)This is not a dig at James, he's the best plumber/heating engineer I've ever come across, and I've seen a few👍because I'm an old git
More parts to go wrong does not necessarily equate to being less efficient. By having less eco friendly heating - you are not just affecting your own £'s. The environment is also being more polluted and affecting everyone else.
@@shilks8773 Think what you like, I've done the sums on repairs and environmental costs, plus the clean up of unrecyclable parts. So I dont believe the hype....everything in moderation

Cooling down the flue too much means that more deposits may be left inside, so may need cleaning more often
Please tell us how log burners with back boilers work with the central heating mate I will love you forever x
Vid would be great on the log burner

We definitely need a new boiler. This one is at least 30yrs old and the banging sounds when the heating is on are frighteningly loud.
Great video as always, least i can understand what system i have now.
