How you describe Bong Joon Ho's ability to insert humor is one of the reasons why he's one of my favorite directors. The first movies of his I watched back in the Limewire days was Barking Dogs Never Bite and it had a lot of that weird dark humor. And watching that get better and the progression of his critiques of capitalism etc with his newer films has been a delight. Okja is such a good one. Thanks for reminding me that I need to rewatch it!

I am not intending to plug my own video but I did make a video talking about Bong Joon-Ho's filmography, in specific, Snowpiercer, Okja and Parasite. And how theyre themes are all kind of paradoxical to how they're made.
I adore Bong Joon-Ho's films but its always interesting to me to think about these kinds of things... I'm super excited for Mickey 17 as well.

    Spoilers in t his comment.
I dont think this movie needed a scene of Jake Gyllenhal orchestrating the rape of the pet pig 😭 he’s otherwise one of the best parts of the movie but fuck that scene.
I really think this should have been more of a kids movie as it is about a little girl saving her pet, if it cuts out the swearing and some of the violence that's all it would have cost. The satire of the meat industry would have been engaging enough for an adult audience imo.
I also appreciate the bleak ending for rest of the pigs despite the happy ending for Okja and her human at least.
I also really like the international aspects of the movie .

The fact that Paul Dano basically plays a Tumblr Sexyman really helps to insert some levity inbetween the horrifying realities of the meat industry

Huge relief to know I'm not the only person who finds Paul Dano sexy 😅

I watched this film when it came out and loved it but nobody I knew had seen or wanted to see it so I had nobody to talk about it with 😂 now I barely remember it, except for the voice of the protagonist calling "Okja!" which is stuck in my head for some reason, and also that it was very different from anything I'd seen.

Animal Liberation Front are basically the good guys.

Agreed, but they aren't without flaws, which works really well IMHO.

I find it funny when parody fails to capture the real world embarrasmnet that is the "animal rights" people starting with P and ending with A.

I mean... it's not meant as a parody of PETA. The Animal Liberation Front is a real thing, and also less embarrassing overall as an organization (though that's not hard t o be).

@BreakRoomofGeeks the film ALF felt like a generic stand in if you prefer that wording.
