    I loved this video. Bo has such a great sense of humor. Here's a tip: You can easily check the sealant in a tire by putting the bike on a stand, removing the valve core, and using a zip tie as a dipstick. It is dry here in Colorado, so we check every few months.

    As someone who's been fixing bikes since the mid 90's and everything is second nature to me, it's always fascinating to see how totally new mechanics look at solutions I take for granted.

    All fluid resits compression. Brake fluid has a higher boiling temperature. So you don't get bubbles as easily. Bubbles / gasses are compressible so you would get spongy levers etc. 😀

    Watching all of this was FUN! I was actually changing a tire on my road bike while watching/listening. :) Also, seeing you adjust the rear derailer makes me want go with electronic shifting.

      Did you ever try a bowden tentioning plier? Costs 10 USD and makes adjusting the shifter a matter of seconds. Set, Squish, turn bottom gear screw to desired point, tighten cable holding screw, release, set top gear end point. Done. No barrel adjusting, no re-loosening of cable fastening screw. My Record to set up shifter from out of the box to perfect shifting is 2 minutes.

    Yey! For those of us. I built a new bike and after 5 rides the bike develop a creak coming from the BB area. I have done everything you can think of, regressing the BB, checked the direct mount chain ring, head set, set post, all pivots, rear shock, rear cassette, rear hun and all these I have done about 3 times. Today I did everything gain, and replaced the sram BB three times and now installed a new Chris king BB. If the creaking does not go away I am not sure what is happening. Btw I have built the bike with SRAM XX1, AXS, and X01.

      You should watch our channel trailer (ruclips.net/video/yizxxFW7-Qg/видео.html), it explains that the idea behind this channel is that Macky is teaching me to work on bikes. He has a lot more experience working on bikes and until recently did all the bike work for both of us. So he is more experienced which is why he was trying not to say anything to see if I could teach Bo without his input.

    Why did you use the syringe instead of the gravity method you have in a different video?

    • @sydfixesbikes
      @sydfixesbikes  Год назад +1

      Because the rear brake had been taken apart at the lever and there was air in the line at the top and air in the lever I decided to do the syringe method so as not to push that air down and risk trapping it lower in the system.

    Thank you both for your excellent videos. I recently purchased a second-hand Trek 1.1 road bike at a real affordable price. However, the distance from it's seat post to it's head tube / headset is far too long; whereas, my butt barely reaches the seat. Question: How could I lessen that distance to comfortly ride. I estimate 2 maybe 3 inches to sit comfortably. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks

    • @sydfixesbikes
      @sydfixesbikes  Год назад +1

      Unfortunately there's probably no way to get it to truly fit you if it's that much too big. Anything you do to try to make it fit (shorten the stem, slam the seat all the way forward) will negatively affect how it rides. Not trying to be a downer, just would hate to have you spend a lot of time/money trying to get it to fit and then ultimately have it not work...
      Things you could do:
      - try to find the correct size for similar to what you could sell this bike for
      - try to find the correct size frame for a reasonable price and put all the parts from this bike on that frame
      Good luck and Happy New Year!

    BB threads are NOT designed to prevent loosening when pedalling (think about it, the BB loosens in the direction the cranks spin). BB threads are designed so that the BB doesn’t tighten solid if the BB seizes.
