This was a really excellent review/user guide. A lot of these videos are people saying "iT's NoT aS gOoD aS a TORmeK!" and whining for 20 minutes.

Does the job mate and within budget. This is the second scheppach tool I've had and been impressed both times. The other is the 13inch thicknesser.

Looks like a really useful bit of kit. Nice demonstration and commentary makes me want one but a loot of money for the number of times I'd need it. Glad to hear I'm not the only one with 'sacrificial' chisels. Great review.
My nephew has the 10" record power version i think they are all very similar, i pinch that when i want to put a fresh grind on my blades and kitchen knives, most of the time you can get away with just using the leather honing wheel to re sharpen it also does a great job for putting an edge back on a chisel quickly especially if you have taken a chunk out the end.
You’re not wrong when you said by hand it would take an hour. Thats what I’ve been doing…..for about an hour…..one chisel. I’ll be buying this.

@@karlpopewoodcraft yes. I thought to myself, what did they have back in medieval times to speed this process up….had a bloody grinding wheel didn’t they! I spent an hour literally like a Neolithic cave man trying to grind out metal. Never again buddy.

Great demonstration, I have always finished off with an oil stone as well, I bought this exact model a few years ago hoping it would grind all my chisels and plane blades for years to come, unfortunately it hasn't gone too well for me.
The grinding wheel has always been slightly out of true right from the word go, i bought a tormek trueing device but because the wheel is so wide it won't cover the whole width of the wheel so it doesn't work, i have no way of trueing the wheel.
This is somewhat irrelevant now because while i was using it last week the drive went on it and after taking the drive wheel off found it to be broken, it is made of plastic, i unsuccessfully tried to repair it.
I have 2 options now, either buy something else, or maybe buy a tormek drive wheel which looks like it is made of metal, i have no idea if it will fit, it looks very similar.
maybe it's just my machine i don't know, i hope others have a better experience than me.

Looks like a great machine. That's another tool I don't have in the workshop, although I don't really do much hand joinery. Nout wrong with living in a council house. I'm a council boy myself now.

As a 28 year old carpenter am old boy once told me that your chisel is super sharp if you lick the back of your hand and if your chisel cuts the hair off smoothly then it's ready for action. Please be aware that if you don't do this properly it could cut or harm you so I wouldn't say do this but I do as I know what I'm doing if that makes sense
Ye that's how I show the students the chisels are sharp.
Nice one Karl...just some info for you. I have the Record Power WG200. (8" version) These knock off Tormek machines are good but the accesories/jigs are rubbish, the pucker Tormek one are far better and work with the knock off machines. Also the diamond wheels are a good investment.. just thought you would like the info. Cheers Paul

shameless copy of the Tormek T8 machine. A lot cheaper of course . Tormek is for at least 20 year use, very durable.
Do you own Tormek Rob 😂😉 within my budget this one mate and works well.
@@karlpopewoodcraft I do own the Tormek yeah :) That is a really good sharpener! Of course I understand you buying the Scheppach. It is probably a good machine as well. I just commented on the theft of the design. The patent must have expired I don't know...
