I have some amazing memories of this place. This wave got me hooked on surfing. The first time I ever surfed was at the point and some of the locals took me out to the back straight away without trying the whitewater first. The swell was small, maybe just waist high but at the end of the session, I was gliding down the line on a big soft top for at least 15-20 seconds per wave. Today I can vividly remember some of those waves. At the end of that week, the swell got bigger, that was a different story haha. This was about 4-5 years ago, with only a handful of people in the line-up.
Sick mate!! Wicked spot to be introduced into surfing! It's probably one of the better beginner/intermediate spots in Indo, iff not the world actually!!
I was there last July in that exact room at Pink Barrel mate haha how good! Musta just missed eachother. Reza and his missus are legends. Had some real good surfs there when the sections link up all the way to the beach.
I was lucky enough to catch this wave on a really big day (8 ft +) and was one of the best surfs of my life. Because the wave is so long and the crowd is more intermediate than anywhere else I surfed in Bali I got pretty much any wave I wanted. Every wave I did more turns than I've ever done before, legs were burning like crazy. The biggest problem is you hop off the wave at the end with a huge grin thinking I want another and then you see just how long your paddle is to get back to the top of the point again. Legs and arms were both destroyed afterwards!
Epic mate!! And yeah, I definitely had a few leg burners out there as well, especially on the bigger days. And feel you on the paddle haha... I've been opting for the run-around, saves your arms but cut my feet up climbing over the rocks instead haha!!
Medewi was one of the highlights of my month long solo trip to Bali. Fun wave on a dbl overhead day but I was shocked to see the crowd had that many people.
Spent a month in Medewi early this year. As a newbie it was a great experience. Started of at the Medewi secret surfcamp with a great indo family and later at West Break. There are certainly some secret beach breaks both east and west of the point. The point is massive so 30-40 peeps is no problem. Its also close enough for a few days traipsing over to Java.
Bizarre. I am a beginner surfer and drove from Canggu to check out the wave last week. I was sitting on my bike watching the surfers and this guy kept catching waves, getting out and walking back up to paddle back out. Then your video pops up in my feed today and I'm like, oh that guy was YOU. Ha
Faaarrkk! Me and a mate surfed it in 88. Accommodation was a bit basic so we stayed at Balian beach and drove up each morning. Never had more than a handful or surfers out. Some mornings we just surfed Balian instead. By ourselves. Not sure if I want to ruin the memory by going back ! Which is a bummer because it’s such a nice friendly feel good wave.
Me and 3 Ozzie's lived with a family for 6 weeks in 1974. Hardly saw any other surfers for the whole time. Terry Fitz rocked up one day when it was peaking at 10 feet. Definitely not a soft mal wave at that size and was breaking from a long way out to sea right down past the river mouth. I was surfing a kneeboard and still have a crack now and again. Great memories.
Epic! Bet it was pretty cool back then and yeah I think you'd be in for a shock with the crowds no days hahah! But yeah still a sick spot, regardless!!
Did you check out Balian as well ? I’m still thinking of going to Medewi one more time just to relive my old times. And wave is so long it should handle moderate crowds. I’m a subscriber now mate , keep up the good work.
You can get 40-50 people in the water but 30% of them are in no danger of catching a wave although they are a danger to themselves and everyone else. And there are 3 or 4 take off spots on the larger days so not that hard to get a few waves.
I was actually planning on a quick dash over for a weeks surfing this October just gone (wife said ok ) then burst ear drum and out of water for 6 weeks. Was planning on going straight up there to GET AWAY FROM THE CROWDS. Haha 😢
Bali in general, has become crowded..... I've found quieter places to surf & they don't involve Indonesia. Places no one would think of in the first instance.
Yeah for sure!! There's so much of the world untapped...a lot of that comes after heaps of travel and other stuff you have to do though (safety risks etc...)!!
Hey guys!! If you're after some fun/mellow lefts, this one is for you!!

Had the pleasure of surfing it with just one buddy, nobody else out in the water. Some of the longest waves I've ever had, super fun.
Epic mate!! Yeah too be fair, you can still score it at time with fewer people, but maybe not on your own haha!!

Hahaha, yeah that's a good description of it!! And yeah it seems super crowded but it handles it and you can get waves for sure!
Went to medewi this summer i just want to add that if you go out at dawn you will have an hour of surf with few people in the water
Hey mate!! Yeah for sure, I've actually found it less crowded during midday onshores!! So hot tho haha!!

I was actually planning on a quick dash over for a weeks surfing this October just gone (wife said ok ) then burst ear drum and out of water for 6 weeks. Was planning on going straight up there to GET AWAY FROM THE CROWDS. Haha 😢

Super fun wave!!
40 ppl at the line up in Medewi!?? Wow 😱 Every day I’m getting closer and closer to pay a premium for a wave pool in Abu Dhabi
Yeah every single days it is like that, plenty of other waves around though ;) Hahaha!!
fun if ur a beginner. go.somewhere else with power
Dan, not a bad Backhand for a Pommy……
Hahah, thanks mate!!
Ive had a few Pink Barrels in Medewi, German, French…….
Pink barrel wtf 🤣
Funny how the majority Muslims Locals promote the place,….. THEN Moan about the crowds……
Go home, it’s not your spot and you’re a wave hog!
They just want the cash...this place is like Disney land. No culture just sellout!
Bali isn't a Muslim island, it's Hindu
@@joshuaivanovicbut most of the people in medewi believe Islam
Thanks for exploiting. another spot ruined by people trying to get likes and dont care about the places
