    I can use this in my sociology classes it is that good.
    It is both Boogeyman and Blacks. It is Ontologisation, polarization and populism. It is Trump and MAGA and the GOP, and the GOP couple threatening the BLM march, it is European refugee politics (the two women behind razorwire are east African refugees longing for the good life in the west).
    Trigger warning, N-word ahead, but I want to hammer the point home.
    The candy they are eating was called "Negerküß" in German, "Negerboller/Negerkys" in Danish. It literally means "Nigger's Kiss". Yea that is how racist the language of our grandparents were. I am 52 and never used it, nor did my parents, but others did and some insist on still doing it. Mostly those who either wants to be the guys behind the podium whipping up the masses, or those that have been whipped up.

    Hello everyone. I'm German and I've known rammstein for so long that I can't even remember when I heard them for the first time. But one thing is for sure, they treat the first topics in their own way and leave room for interpretation, like in this song angst. in which they sing about the black man and no that has nothing to do with the color of the skin, it's about the boogeyman and fear itself. We are so busy in our time looking at our fears and our surroundings (media, radio, etc.) fuel this fear, and in the end we are so scared that we arm ourselves and shoot ourselves because we know nothing but fear. So mega cool the song is so bitter it is, but at the same time honest and real. And every time the cheerleading part comes they say Du = you. which comes from a child's game, here there is a catcher (the bboogeyman) and the other players trying not to be caught by him. The "boogeyman" stands, for example, at the other end of the sports hall. He shouts, "Who's afraid of the boogeyman? ' while his opponents yell, 'Nobody' You're afraid of the boogeyman? Because the ironic thing is we all (humanity) are Black men (boogeyman).Don't live in fear folks, and Don't let the Fear in you.I can't describe it better because of my English skills. sorry

    They're eating whipping cream on a thin waffle, covered in chocolate. These were originally called "Negerkuss" (negro's kiss), but the name is understandably frowned upon, and these days, they're named differently. I'm not sure what, I left Germany a decade ago. The Bogeyman is called "Schwarzer Mann" (black man) in German, so they close the circle here with a nudge at the double meaning, pointing at fear of things like immigration etc. The red cables also have multiple meanings. For one, red is a colour that symbolises fear, but there's also the "red thread", the connective tissue, that you can see in other videos, as well, like in Deutschland.

      Great observations

    • @TeCoEd
      @TeCoEd 2 года назад

      I interpreted the red cables as data cables, feeding the brainwashing narrative and fear stories through the computers / Internet. Also the 'leader' in the straight jacket is basically a puppet, he has no opinion of his own, they are constrained ( in the jacket). Notice too how the red cables run from his lectern to the computers. This is an allegory of Social Media feeding our minds with fear. (Amazing song too)

  • @Superrobil
    @Superrobil 2 года назад +17

    Just some remarks:
    The several times mentioned "Schwarze Mann" ("black man") is known as a child fright figure in the German-speaking area ("Wer hat Angst vorm Schwarzen Mann" = Who does fear the black man). Depending on the region and time, it was understood to mean different beings: a dark shadowy figure or a man dressed in black. As a metaphor, the "bogeyman" reached a "peak" as personalization of evil, savagery, and the unknown in the course of colonization, and in the process also acquired a racist connotation. In this context, I find the consumption of those sweets (German so-called "negro kisses") at the end during the end credits very interesting, which work through this "black man" symbolism.
    Also the colors usage is interesting (Black/White/Red representing the Nazi-color Spectrum). I also found it interesting at the end of the credits that when the TV was destroyed, the color came back into the picture.
    Further, I noticed that the pie-like plots seen from above correspond to the "political symbol" at the lectern where the singer, wearing a straitjacket, gives his speech. After these borders & plots collapse during the wild shoot-out, the politician, unleashed by the straitjacket to spread his propaganda/fear.
    Cheering on the cheerleaders is the equivalent of pitching an idea/product and the dancers are slammed with money to sell the bricks and guns to the landowners.
    This Clip has many layers and can be interpreted in many directions. I see there is a statement on xenophobia and populism/media

    Either they've put every last effort into this album and the videos or they're a sign of things to come. Either way, they've already announced dates for the next tour so it isn't the end of Rammstein for a while yet. Angst, probably the best song on the album for driving heavy guitars , outstanding drums and clever use of keys. Till's voice is out of this world. Sent chills down my spine. Loved it and again a message that is so, so relevant today from Rammstein who do social commentary like no other band can.

    It’s actually interesting, the majority of the Video is filmed in Black/White/Red, which are the colours of the flag of the German Kaiserreich and also the „Reichskriegsflagge“? Both flags has been shown multiple times on ralleys against refugees, Covid measures, etc.. Also the wheel sign at Tills lectern, looks like a simplified Schwarze Sonne (black sun), which is a popular symbol often used by Nazis as well. To me, by using these elements, Rammstein does clearly indicate what kind of people they do portray here.

    You should better watch the beginning and end of this video again , than there are no wrong interpretations. The video begins with six men in the front yard. They are wearing white polo shirts, over which gray sweater vests with large checks are worn. They mow the lawns in their front yards, grill cheese crackers and enjoy the gossip from the weekend newspaper. But after just a few seconds, the bourgeois garden world is torn down and bathed in black, white and red light. Black, white and red are the colors of the German Reich flag, which Neo-Nazis and Reich citizens like to wear. It is no coincidence that Rammstein chose this lighting. Eventually, barbed wire is rolled out, walls are erected, and surveillance cameras are installed to shadow the others. Horrific cheerleaders even deliver machine guns for money, which are ultimately aimed at the screens, opening up a black hole and engulfing the group. Lindemann can also be seen as a mental patient at the lectern.Because the harmless bourgeois in the song are actually lousy racists who soon have built a wall and barbed wire around their front yard and then reach for the machine gun. For fear of the black man. But it won't reveal who the black man is. Racism criticism is the obvious interpretation, but there are also other interpretations, as always with Rammstein. If there is enough fear involved, also fueled by lies on social media, the philistine becomes a monster and, in the worst case, takes up arms.
    The fact that the band is making a statement on racist, xenophobic views is clear given the line of text "Who's afraid of the black man" and the people cooped up in barbed wire at the beginning and end of the video. In the end, the group peacefully munches the much-discussed chocolate kiss while watching the suffering of the imprisoned mother and daughter on television (refugee crisis in Europeand strengthening the right-wing extremists who spread their lies with social media (for example Trump in the US, new rightwing party in Germany AFD and so on).
    The german terms Negerkuss ("Negro kiss") and Mohrenkopf (=chocolate marshmallow = a kind of small chocolate-covered cake filled with foamy sugar) have been largely avoided in recent times because of the racist connotations of the terms Negro and Mohr in official german parlance. However, some of the designations are still used by the manufacturing companies.

      Thanks for sharing. These are first time reactions and for an off the cuff analysis, I think we did a pretty good job. It's obvious there's plenty of deep details here that Rammstein purposely placed - wonderful art and conversation!

      This is boogeyman, not literal black man. Rammstein are too inteligent to made simple political stuff.

      We were watching it to the end and talking over it. The ending wasn't anything mind blowing other than being too on the nose with political points.
