please make this an ongoing series this shit is hilarious 💀😂
We had a blast with this one lol
Sacred Son knew he gained notoriety with his selfie cover, so he did another one lol.
What a bro lol
You guys don’t know Riot? Shame on ya! No seriously, Music Top, Album Covers Flop
Heard the name, just never felt compelled to listen. Until this perfect opportunity!
And you guys cracked me up on Mortification😂
😂😂😂 your online handle made me chuckle too lol
It doesn't surprise me. These guys don't know much about classic Heavy Metal.😂
Pretty lame attitude there mate. 😘
Saw Riot in the thumbnail and very glad to hear you guys enjoyed the title track of Riot’s Narita. I love Riot and that record’s got some banging tunes. My favorite Riot albums are Fire Down Under and Thundersteel. Fire Down Under is like Narita, but more in the Trad style and then on Thundersteel they morph into a US Power Metal band with a lot of Euro influences.
I haven’t checked that Messiah record, but I’ve heard their 3rd album Choir of Horrors a few weeks ago and enjoyed it. It’s more in the Death Thrash territory so if you’re down for that I’d recommend it.
Cool video and keep making the banging content. Btw nice editing too.
Thanks for the kind words man! I’ve been spinning Riot this weekend and you’re right, it’s awesome!
@@forgemastermetal nice and you’re welcome. Unfortunately the guitarist passed away in 2012, but the members from Thundersteel reformed as Riot V and the 2 albums they have out currently are really good. They have a 3rd one releasing in April that was supposed to drop this month, but I just now learned it got pushed back so darn lol.
Riot - Restless Breed is their best
@@Hecatecrossways I find restless breed to be one of their more middling records personally. Has a couple songs I enjoy though. I think the next record Born In America was the better Rhett album.
@@doomguyrox1156 If you don't like Riot that is . Born in America sounds like a different band. Restless Breed still sounded like Riot, and Rhett has a more powerful Voice, and a much more Metal image than Guy Speranza. Guy Speranza looked like a Disco singer, and had an AOR Pop Vocal style. Hard Loving Man was Heavier than anything Riot had done previously. Born in America was good, but they changed with the times. Thunderstorm was undoubtedly their best album, but other than the band name it didn't sound like Riot. Born in America has a bad production, and tries to Hard too sound like other more popular Metal bands
What a great idea for a video! It was hilarious! Thank you for making this. 😂
Glad you enjoyed it! We had a ton of fun with it.
That Brimstone record actually woops ass, this segment is really enjoyable. You earned a sub! 🤘😃
Thanks! It really does. Love that melodeath power metal vibe
Really enjoyed this, lots of fun.
Would love more instsallments.
Oh we're gonna do more :P
@forgemastermetal some genuinely good albums in there, sucks that the first thing you see is horrendous album art.
Had a blast with your video and with the "guess the style of music" game. Wow, BAD album art indeed. WTF were these people thinking? You guys should do a pt 2 or expand into videos or lyrics. I see great potential here. And you guys obviously had fun with it as well. Anyway, thanks for the much appreciated entertainment.
If this video does well, we'll probably do a part 2. We'll see! Help us out and like the video, share, etc. It's kind of a new format for us, so our audience didn't really take to it. We're getting awesome feedback though that people love it.
Great video guys. And thank you for helping me remember symphonity!! i was trying to find this exact album for 5 years but i couldn't remember the name only the lyrics to one particular song called evening star because the hook and song structure was so memorable.
Hey this video did some good! lol
Love this video guys!! Keep them coming 🤘
We're on it! 😎
The Wolf one is made by horror artist Hans Arnold and has a very special style. I loved his painting for horror novels growing up. Masterful.
its a great piece on its own!
Omg, great idea! Please do more of these! *edit* I love all the jokes and additions, like Minsc, or you guys in a forest for Mortiis. Classic! *edit*
I’m glad! We’re experimenting with some new editing styles 😊 thanks for noticing man!
That was hilarious! I have that Therion T-shirt 😂 oh and the RIOT album covers are the gift that keeps on giving.....you could make an entire vid on those alone
Never get rid of that Therion shirt. That is EPIC!
Attacker are awesome, love their "The Second Coming" album from 88 and their 3 comeback albums in the new millenium!
That Brimstone album was pretty unique for it's time - Power Metal with harsh vocals. Awesome!
And of course Riot are Metal Legends! I was surprised you guys don't know them.
ThunderSteel from 1988 is one of my all-time favourite albums.
They've got a new album coming out in April - you've got to check out the cover art - it's got the seal on a motorcycle this time!
I’m excited to give Riot a further spin man! I love discovering old gems I missed
@@Necromass Love those albums! Black Leather and Glittering Steel is my fave Riot song.
As always, thanks for the laughs. I particularly like the "guess" the genre based on the art. Sometimes judging a book by a cover is hilariously awesome. It was Maiden's "A Real Dead One" A+ art that hooked me without even knowing the music. It would be interesting to explore the inverse of this premise. Synthesize cover art from the tracks on an album.
Ooooo that’s a great idea!
Cheers guys, just came across your video and feel the urgent need to give some fodder for a potential part two:
- Skyforger "Kurbads"
- Sznur "Ludzina"
- Gruzja "Gruzja 2"
I love the music on all three of those releases, but their artworks are just something else 😅
Thanks for the suggsstions!
Great segment. My NWOBHM and thrash albums had some incredibly cheesy artwork and album covers. But back then i thought they were really cool
They're endearing with their badness.
Amazing episode. I think Wolf should be in the “Legendary” tier based on the fact the creature on the cover captures the artwork of Monty Python animated shorts from back in the day.
Did Brimstone’s album come before “Trogdor the Burninator”?
Also cool to see Obtained Enslavement mentioned! I only found them a few years ago, which surprised me. Check out the song 'Soulblight' - it's so unique!
Great video, BTW! Some of these sounded really good. I'm gonna listen to Symphonity now!
Symphonity was really good!
The cover art for the Mortification album is supposed to symbolise the singer, Steve Rowe, surviving Leukaemia. He was able to survive and made this album after that situation as a thank you to God.
That's Mortifying!!
That Messiah Album and Cover is fucking Iconic!
Have on first press CD!!
Swiss Thrash at it's finest!!
Hope for a part two!!
Great work guys!!
💀🤘💀🤘💀🤘
It’s so good!
I'm surprised you guys didn't do this sooner. Iove it🤣🤣🐶😺
Was a blast!
Haha what a great vid! More plz!
More to come!
If Metal Magic by Pantera or the Battleaxe album are not on here, this video is gonna need a Part 2.
Ben wasn't familiar with these bands so we wanted to do one where they were all a surprise to him. Great suggestions!!
This was hella funny, hope you do more of these. Sacred Sun did another selfie album cover but abandoned it on the latest album, which is a bummer.
That is a bummer. I wanna know the story of the first one lol
9:20 - believe-it-or-else but Riot's second album is one of the records that got me into Metal! Hell, I bought it the time as Maiden's "Killer"!
I'm glad we had an opportunity to talk about them. They're a band I honestly missed when I was younger.
11:54 You basically spend a minute here saying "I wish these guys were We butter the bread with butter"
This list needs a Vol. 2... mainly because NO list of bad record covers is complete without "Beastiality" by HANDSOME BEASTS (NWOBHM 1981)!!
Oh man, that one NEEDS to be included!
First Messiah album is legit, that one is cool too (pun intended).
Dude that band actually really piqued my interest
I love Symphonity!! Also this is a GREAT series to do, I have some digging to do because I have some AMAZING album covers
Visual Cliff - Freedom Within.
ruclips.net/video/8sGGWnUTnho/видео.html
Cage - Unveiled
ruclips.net/video/TbtfX2y8kF4/видео.html
Oh BOY those are some doozies haha!
I bought that Attacker album on vinyl for the cover, I love how the logo is off center lol
This is just too funny 😂,
I’d say Born Again from Black Sabbath could be considered here
That one is horrendous lmao and a good addition
"I saw the cover and I puked!" -Ian Gillan (vocalist on Born Again!)
Yeah, it’s pretty rough. The production doesn’t help either 😂😂
I've actually played a show with Sacred Son, their last album is really cool. I seem to remember that album cover was just a photo he took while on holiday somewhere.
lol yeah the music rules - would be cool to hear that full story of the cover art
Please make this an ongoing series. This has potential to be a hit :)
If it does well then we probably will! We had a blast making it.
Thanks for reminding me of that Brimstone album! Brings back a lot of nostalgia. Too bad they’re not on Apple Music!
I couldn’t believe how good it was lol
lol you found some gems there. Some of those looked like crap I'd do on a computer back in H.S. in the late 90's early 2000's lol.
One of the best eras man. I’d love to relive those times for just a day.
That Messiah record sounds really cool!
Sure does!
Riot's Narita is one of the most important albums in heavy metal. Very underrated and still influencial band. The mascot is a man with a baby seal head. It's ICONIC for every true heavy metal fan out there.
Neat
Thunder Steel is of huge influence as well, a power metal landmark. Although basically their entire catalogue is amazing. Even after Reale's passing, they're still churning out good stuff, though obviously, nobody can replace Mark Reale.
@@kforcer every single album is at cosmic level. my top 1st is indeed Thundersteel, my 2nd is Fire Down Under.
This was so fun, thanks for sharing. That Uada shirt is straight🔥🔥🔥 Mortification actually has a couple decent albums, yes its totally Jesus-ified, first 3 albums are straight death metal.
You're so right dude, I took your advice and spun those early records. Fire.
We need a part 2 yo yeehaw lmfao!
We're on it!
Hilarious. There's a later Anvil album with an angel in the clouds doing a bong rip from a glass anvil on the cover. Definitely belongs here. Thanks, guys.
That's epic.
Wolf has put out about six albums on century Media with the latest one last year I do believe they're really good
Yeah man, Wolf was easily one of the best bands on here.
I am shocked Pantera's "Metal Magic" album was not on this list. lol
That one’s too obvious lol. Part of this too was that Ben had never seen most of these covers, so I wanted an authentic reaction.
@@forgemastermetal Fair! Lol
I love that Party Cannon cover :D
It's definitely unique lol
Riot's mascot is a man with a baby seal head...and they are absolutely awesome. One of the greatest metal bands of all-time. Attacker is awesome, their covers are awesome, their music is awesome. Everyone who listens to Riot and Attacker is a vigilante can bench press over 500 pounds, wield a sword whose structure corresponds to their personality and effortlessly commandeer vehicles.
Man, two great, great bands. Thunder Steel would be the one I recommend for those not familiar with them (Riot), but their entire catalogue is great, really and my favorite material is probably their late 80's-90's stuff. Mark Reale is a legend. For Thunder Steel, I'd recommend making sure you listen to the whole album, because you don't really get a sense of how cool it really is from just the title track; the title track is awesome, but you gotta hear the whole thing through IMO.
Nice to see 'Carving a Crimson Career' by Brimstone on here! I bought a promo copy of the album in around 2001 on a whim for a few pounds (but not the type of Enya pounds ;) ). Fuckin' stellar album from start to finish. *Very* catchy. The whole thing is super underrated, so it makes me happy to see it get some recognition and promo here, even if it has an utterly atrocious album cover! :P
That record is fantastic dude.
Messiah. I have Choir Of Horrors album around thirty years, that’s a great album too
"I Want Dumb Shit" needs to be a tshirt lol
YES! We need to make that shirt design.
No Monstrosity - Millennium?! How'd y'all sleep on that? You gotta do a part ii..
I went with mostly albums Ben had never seen before. I wanted an authentic reaction.
Hi, guys. Very fun video. I cant wait for the Obtained Enslavement section. I remember ordering it and being like, wtf when it came. I have a honorable mention for ya.
RIGOR MORTIS VS.THE EARTH.
Terrible cover. Awesome band, the album is all over the place. A couple good songs, you could tell it would be their last for a while
BTW, Obtained Enslavement have two legendary albums in my opinion. Witchcraft and Soulblight are both mind blowing. I'll be checking out more of your stuff
I actually spent time with most of the records after this video. You're right, Obtained Enslavement have some GREAT tunes.
09:20 Oh lord...it's Riot! 😂 That creature is none other than the band's mascot: The mighty Tior! Who was basically a buff guy with a baby seal's head, lmao. They're also got to be one of the unlickiest bands in history. Which is too bad because their first albums are good! If you ignore La Criatura in every album cover of course.
It's rad to see a good band like that be so fearless and jump into iconic (and knowingly bad) artwork like that.
Almost anything by Acid Reign and // or Lawnmower Deth would have been perfect here.
I’ll have to scope those!
@@forgemastermetal Both bands often got lumped in with Metal Duck, and it's probably fair to say that all three bands were more known for their humour, including multiple covers of "classic" pop songs. Acid Reign even had custard pie fights on stage, and their album art was usually cheap and comical. But they were easily the more musical of the three, and played live with Exodus and (I think) Nuclear Assault back in the day.
Ooh crikey
I grew up Evangelical and LOVED Mortification. Some of their stuff actually holds up pretty well, but not that one 😂
lol yeah not the best aging 😂
That album sounds like they “sold out”. I remember them having a pretty fast and heavy DM sound.
@@zombiTrout Yeah their first couple of albums were bangers.
The Linkedin bit killed me😂
Same 😂
Stars on thrash by roadrunner has an awful cover . Loved this video thank you
Thanks bud!!
The Sacred Son album the Foul Death of Engelond has a painting for a cover with an easter egg from the s/t one
I remember that obtained enslavement album coming out. I always thought the band name was stupid, but that cover is still hilarious. It's like a middle class couple from the suburbs trying spice things up in the bedroom with some spicy roll play.
Couple goals lol
I always thought the same about their band name. Maybe it sounds cool in their native language or it's a bad translation.
Famous band, Terrible cover ...Iron Maiden- Dance of Death.
Lmao yes! Good one!
Attacker looks like something off the original monster manual in D&D :)
Lmao totally does
Weird that a couple metal dudes have never seen some of these classics. Very wholesome and fun watch either way, but Mortiis is the only silly boy out there that is allowed to look silly and is still totally the coolest ever! Haha
Idk man, there’s plenty of metal thats easy to miss - especially the classics. Why does it matter what “we’ve seen”? We’re not any authorities on music, we’re just having a good time. 😎
Regardless - I think it’s cool to talk about albums people may have never seen or maybe have forgotten about.
I do like Mortiis' dungeon synth early stuff
Yeah man it’s good
Did you notice the Wolf drawing is signed? I wonder who 'Arnold' is.
Also for next time, Morbid Visions/Bestial Devastation by Sepultura, Metal Magic by Pantera, Burn This Town by Battleaxe, On Fire by Widow, Number One by Pist.On.
Thanks bro!
The old Mortification is great - pure death metal. I own the Attacker on vinyl origal press - great poweer metal. Did Riot ever have a decent album cover?
From the comments, it looks like Riot leaned into the "bad art." Maybe that alone deserves a video, a deep dive of Riot.
Metal Duck album art reminds me of an old Indy comic book called Boris the Bear. He basically kills popular characters from marvel and dc and elsewhere.
I can kinda see it, except with a red / orange palette.
For future Episode:
Stuck mojo: Rising
squealer: the prophecy
Thy serpent: christcrusher
Pegazus: wings of Destiny
Embraze: katharsis
Epic show brothers like always!!!!
I'm a big fan of Mortification the vocalist & six string bass guitars, love his deep false core growl is legendary but his clean vocals sucks !!!!
Thanks bud! Seems like an important band
@@forgemastermetal Gotta check out more Mortification CD I think they did 12 CD's
Scrolls of the Megilloth is a good place to start
I own the Symphony one. It was released on the big power metal label Limb Music
Oh that Sacred Son cover is f**king hilarious
Right? Lol
I cannot recommend 'Sigh No More' by Gamma Ray enough. Fucking bizarre album art
The brimstone album came out on nuclear blast in the mid '90s
My 2 legendary tier bad album covers are: Adrian - One step into the Uncertain and Kratos - Iron Beast
That Sacred Son cover looks like it would have been an electronic album. 😂
Lmao yeah it does
I am pretty sure that cover is made as a joke.
Mortiis gave me “you have to pay the troll toll” vibes.
Pffffhahaha you're DEAD on dude.
Riot is a great band and they definitely are self aware of there bad covers. you should rank their catalog
Maybe someday!
Surprised White Ward's last album didn't make the cut! :D
I forgot about that one!
If you do a sequel you NEED to add Sol Evil's Master of Ascendency albums, lots of homoerotic undertones.
Thanks for the suggestion!
I love the sacred son cover. It's brilliant imo.
totally is - it worked for the success of that record
Obtained Enslavement is Pest from Gorgoroth's other band. their first album is really good!
I didn’t know that! Very cool!
Mortification "Scrolls of the Megaloth" is one of my favorite death metal albums of all time.
Shame they changed their sound. As someone who was in the "Christian death metal" scene in the early/mid 90s, there was a LOT of pushback for "sounding evil." It's what led to me not playing music anymore.
Anyway, give "scrolls" a shot.
My fave Prog Metal band *Fates Warning* (1 of the Fathers of the genre) have a notorious album cover. For their 1st 2 albums, they were a Heavy Metal band with a Thrash influence, but very different than _most_ other bands of that time.
But their debut album cover for "Night on Bröcken" (1984) was pretty bad, soo bad, they have through the years talked about it in various interviews (it was also mentioned in the liner notes of their 2nd or 3rd album). They also released a "2nd" version of the album that was just as awful (may have been the same artist too). The third re-release (on Lp) was just a photo of a Full Moon. Though the re-release/remaster on CD went with the original painting for nostalgia.
Here is an interview from 11 years ago where 2 founders of the band talk about it: ruclips.net/video/e5HJh2b3D2U/видео.htmlsi=Qn41n5TZWWcJHbTb
Dude - that is PERFECT to include in a part 2. HAHA!
Oxiplegatz, any album, just look it up.
lol will do
Metal duck art looks like lawnmower deth
Battle at Helm’s Deep and Narita are sick fucking records. Yea, the art’s comical, but it adds to the experience. I beg you guys to take the time to listen to these records fully. Messiah’s Extreme Cold Weather is great too, if you end up checking it out, check out their other records “Hymn to Abramelin” and “Choir of Horrors,” super solid death metal, the later pushing towards mid 90’s Death territory
I actually did spin them all. Many of them were fantastic.
Lothlorien, The Primal Event from 1998, my brother really liked the album but I did and still believe that was a terrible album cover.
Thanx guys. ( Johannes Axeman - wolf guitarist 2002-20011 )
Hey! Legendary music! Cheers mate!
I thought that Riot head was a seal!
I think it is. I clearly don’t know animals lol
On the topic of melodeath, Hypocrisy in particular has some truly horrid ones IMO
They really do lol
Savage Grace, “Master Of Disguise” from 1985.
Last Crack, “Sinister Funkhouse 17” from 1989
Depressive Age, “First Depression” from 1992 (like this this album a lot but that cover confuses me every time)
Appreciate the recs for Part 2!!
Sacred Son is pretty neat, though. Competent BM. Not sure, but it might be Beachy Head in East Sussex, a famous suicide spot.
That’s really interesting
in your next video you should include this ruclips.net/video/TLsDmGJcPXY/видео.html. Killer band from my city with not very good album art haha
Lmao - looks very.....phallic.
Those covers lmfao!😝🤣
😂
The original art for Razor’s Shotgun Justice is pretty laughable, but Yellow Machinegun’s Father’s Golden Fish is legitimately unbelievable. Possibly the single worst cover art I’ve ever seen… maybe the colors aren’t as obnoxious as that one black flag album, but in terms of sheer ugliness it takes the cake.
Metal "experts" that never heard of Riot....holy shit!
Never once called ourselves “experts.” We’re just chilling talking about cool stuff. Don’t be that guy. No one likes that guy.
That Mortification album sucks, earlier albums have some very good OSDM .
How could you miss Hanging in the Balance by Metal Church? It's the worst. St. Vitus' Born Too Late is also pretty awful, they're the first American Doom band and they go with a full pink cover with a tiny window in the centre??? And what about Shitfun by Autopsy? That cover speaks for itself. Force of Habit by Exodus sucks too, but not offensively.
Idk dude, we miss things, we’re bad humans 😜
I love album art. It can hugely impact how I view an album. And that isn’t always a positive 😅
The art is basically an albums profile picture 😂
A video about hilariously bad metal album art and you haven't even covered Dance of Death?
I put art together for albums that Ben had never seen so he would have an authentic reaction.
Stop looking for problems.
Artillery - Terror Squad
Riot , top hard and heavy classic band, but yes , horrendous covers. And actually that’s not a monkey head, its a seal seen from above 😂
Yeah I see the seal now, :P
Dance of December Souls has to be the #1 legend.
I wouldn’t call that art terrible, it’s a bit lame sure lol
