In this video, I go completely insane working on my twin-turbo V12 Cl65 AMG. This was supposed to be the first drive video but it ended horribly. I find and fix another engine leak but the hydraulic suspension has me stumped. I can't figure this one out so if you have any ideas I'm all ears. Enjoy the madness!

On My s55 AMG i went through all this. Replacing parts, trying to add pressure . Nothing . Finally called a tow truck and right before it was ready to go up I floored it in neutral to about 5-6000 rpm and lifted right up. Been perfect ever since. I imagine you still have air in the system and need to work on pushing or getting it out . Look online, all kind of crazy procedure to do it

@@DrPeppa it can be frustrating but you'll get better as time goes on. Some things aren't easy to nail down and diagnose. Even pro mechanics run into things that stump them for a while or seemingly don't make sense. Things sometimes fail in odd ways. I've had cars in the past that I eventually knew everything about it inside and out. By the time I got to that level of knowledge with the car, it was ready to be sold/junked/replaced with something else. I have a short attention span with cars and get bored of them quickly. I currently have a 2018 Ford Focus RS. I have a damn smirk on my face every time I drive the thing. Car is a blast to drive. Probably going to keep it. Same thing happened years ago with my 2011 Nissan Frontier Pro 4X (was actually called Nismo edition back then) Extended cab, 4.0L V6, 6 speed manual. Been a rock solid truck, super practical with just enough room for everything (3 dirt bikes or 1 ATV and 1 dirtbike).
Everyone always surprised its a manual and a 6 speed to boot.
Anyways happy wrenching, sorry I veered off there lol I just smoked a J

The maintenance costs are usualy proportional to the MSRP (new), ca. +1 % per year. If you your car is 10 years, you are at 10%. The maintenance costs of a 150.000 car are at 15.000 p.a. at the dealer.

to stop cans "blooping" when you pour (and prevent starting dribbles) - instead of having the opening at the bottom of the pour face, start with it rotated to the top and then rotate the can as it empties out. You can keep more or less the same pour angle for most of the pour this way and you don't get bubbles in your fluids (or splashes when pouring gas)

    • @jctaiter
      @jctaiter 3 года назад +1

Also , the pour start is lower angled = flatter. Which is conveniently closer to the hole.

I have an '06 S65 AMG with the same suspension. After stilling for awhile, the system won't re-engage until I put the car in gear and move it a foot or two. It will sit with a 'flat' suspension UNTIL I start to back the car out of the garage. After the car moves, the suspension immediately 'pumps up' the car. Good luck!

"I'm spending less time cleaning parts people aren't gonna see..." -- Though on the one hand I'm in awe with your dogged and most amazingly positive determination, I think you may regred not cleaning as you go. I had, what for me was the biggest series of DIY on my N54 and since I was also hurry up and wait, I just decided to clean the hell out of things once I had them out... parts themselves and where they came from. It is immensely satisfying to have such a clean space looking back.
If you're not keeping the car, I understand but highly recommend cleaning because it'll be mo' bettah after the fact.

I'm not familiar with the abc system but on a lot of electronic controlled hydraulic systems the fluid gets air bubbles in it on first fill and if a valve closes they can be a real pain to get out.
I would try taking off the connections from the shocks themselves, fill them by hand and bleed the rest as best you can before putting it back together. I know this is going to get fluid everywhere but the less tiny bubbles in it the more chance it will work. Once it works once it will pretty much bleed them out itself over time as they will just keep rising through the system as it goes through its normal motions.
This is also why you usually see a lot of left over fluid marks on heavy equipment after a cylinder or seal change.

I am assuming there are two lines to each hydraulic strut, or is there only a pressure side on one? the difference of fluid volume/pressure across a rubber diaphragm in the strut would determine the ride height? Can you bleed the struts at each suspension strut by cracking a line closest to the actual strut?? I think there is still air in the system. However, I have never worked on mercs, and know absolutely nothing about these systems, but look what happens if you have air in your brake system. I reckon this is a simple hydraulic issue.

🤣 Love how Alex throws in German tidbits... "Das Intercooler..." may I correct? It is "Der Intercooler" - then again, who cares? Love the built. Love the car... Go Alex! 💪👏

This series on your Mercedes' V12 engine has served as an extremely judicious PSA, in that it should, hopefully, thoroughly dissuade anyone who is NOT a highly competent technician from attempting anything more than the basics on one of these engines!
    YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!!!

Alex, I'm thinking about buying a 2002 Porsche 911 996 turbo. It's not a matter of if it's when those factory press fit glued in coolant lines are going to let go. Really making me hesitate from buying the car. Looks like the motor will have to be dropped the whole coolant pipe system removed and sent off to have TIG welded. You ever do this job before or have any experience with this problem?

VASOLINE !!! ITS EVERYTHING .... OH NO, IM JUST GETTING TO the ABC ... the pumps , do not SELF PRIME, you MUST pressurize the tank, and then start it , dang.. yes i have already been through ABC , the valve bodies are the most important. also a pressure manifold is super useful , there are some connection points at each wheel to plug into , the fitting is some unknown tractor fitting. if you look at the original install of the ALTERNATOR , you slipped right when you were lining it up .. i saw it then ,dang .. THE CL , and ABC demand respect

It's too much for the seals I never worked on that car but just from working on a/c systems that seal is just really big and most cars don't have a water cooled alternators maybe fill with coolent then use a vacuum pump

Yea I see you like the vacuum tool, I would not let the seals sit for sometime exposed to air

This is why I wouldn't be a mechanic. There would be a jump-cut scene of the car in flames with me cursing it to hell and the devil who obviously was the lead engineer.
