      ​@@aldozilli1293Chiellini was just rough, Materazzi was way worse. Chiellini never did the same kind of dirty fouls that Materazzi used to do every match. Plus Chiellini was miles ahead in terms of actual defensive skills, Materazzi was just a tall, aggressive butcher

      What's impressive is that he sounds like someone who has lived in an English country for many years, or at least has spoken the language with some degree of regularity for many years. I know he was at LAFC but that was what, like a year at most.

    Chiellini and Barzagli carried Bonucci throughout his career defensively. But Bonucci’s ball playing style made them the perfect back 3, with Buffon behind them.

      Bonucci actually was better than chiellini in the first 3 juventus season. Chiellini got better after conte arrived but between 2008 and 2011 chiellini was very mistake prone. And I'd argue that in our unbeaten season bonucci was our best defender.
      Chiello became better and better with age

      Barzagli is the most underrated italian defender of all time. No tricks, scored almost no goals in his carreer, very few assists...but it was like having a brick wall on the right side of the defense. Definitely my favorite player

    As an Aussie Italian, I really enjoyed this interview, thank you. Several years ago when Juventus had an off season tournament here, a friend took a photo with Giorgio pretending to take a bite out of his ear, mimicking Suarez in the 2014 WC game against Uruguay 😊 He took it all in good humour… what a great guy, not only one of our best players.

      Chiellini holds Masters Degree as well, it is rare among footballers and he attained Masters degree while he was still captain of Italia & Juventus, he passed on his knowledge to Alvaro Morata and then Morata also gave pain to England in similar way.

      Rio was very, very good over a long period. Him and Nesta were like a new breed of CBs at the time they emerged, Nesta slightly better but not by a big gap. And I say that as someone who thinks Ferdinand is quite a bellend (as a person, not a footballer).

    Chiellini is up there with the Italian greats as a defender. They produce these standouts every generation so are clearly getting the coaching right as a nation

    Chiellini is not joking about that Spain game in the previous Euro. Spain were absolute monsters even with a new generation, Dani Olmo kept taking them on 1v1 all over the pitch and every Italian player had to bring him down once or twice.

      They lost to Italy in PK that could go either way. Then they lost to Switzerland also in PKs.
      And in the world cup lost to Russia in PKs in a game they dominated. Spain has just been unlucky but theve been the best team in every tournament except for world cup 2014 where Germany dominated. And perhaps Euro 2020 where Italy stepped up😊

      @@acruzro95 4 years before in 2016 Spain was mauled by Italy in Euro cup anyway. Spain was not better than Italy in 2021 either, i mean team wise. It's just Italy that always suffers the tiki taka historically talking. Ironically Italy is much more able to beat Germany than oppose stressfull tiki taka.
      This Euro cup there was no match obviously, Spain was far better than Italy. Still we have 4 WC stars and 2 euro cups.

    I remember when playing the game Real Football Manager 2009, I created a team and bought 2 tough defenders Chiellini and Ferdinand, Chiellini at that time was a talented young defender and Ferdinand was an experienced tough defender, put these two guy in defense and the opposing team will not easily score a goals 😂

    I didn't know Chiellini spoke great English until a month ago. Haha for some reason, he seemed too Italian to think he would want to learn English. Sorry for judging you, legend! 💙💙💙💙

      Chiellini style is more similar to Vidic, so I think they would be a perfect defensive duo.

      At his peak Rio - very underrated for Leeds and West Ham
      For consistency and longevity probably Chiellini

    Georgio said it very well about VAR. Its best for the game and needed to take out most of mistakes. In the same time is run by humans who make mistakes. And in England they don't know very well how to use it

    Surprised he would give his opinion on the late substitutions made in the 2021 Final by Southgate. Rio really wanted his opinion on it. I forgot that Antonio Conte made the same mistake in the PK's against Germany in 2016 with Simone Zaza.
