This is a beautiful, heartwarming song. I absolutely love it. it's how a collaboration should be. both parts bring their unmistakable sound in. the opening riff is unmistakably Incubus, the rest pure Band-Maid with a few new wonderful nuances. the vocals are gorgeous, the interplay of the instruments as usual of untouchable beauty and finesse and Kanami's solo finally made my heart melt. Wonderful, went straight to my playlist … well done, once more.
Thank you. Still over 2 hours to midnight here in Finland 🇫🇮😂 so this is my first time hesring this one..Loving Kanami’s playin’ , Saiki’s English is so much improved. First song comes to my mind is Daydreaming/Memorable, but a lot more too. Love it 🤘🔥❤️
I am a HUGE Incubus fan, as you know😅, and I hear nothing but Mike on this song. No offense to all my fellow Band-Maid fans, but this is all Mike. Sounds like an Incubus song sung by Saiki. Everyone is like, "it just sounds like an average Band-Maid song" 😂😂😂😂 No it doesn't. About two minutes in it suddenly becomes a Band-Maid song with Kanami's solo and thereafter, but then ends with Mike's guitar signature sound. It starts Incubus, switches to Band-Maid, then finishes Incubus. That being said, my long time opinion has ALWAYS been that Band-Maid and Incubus are like brother and sister sounds. They're more alike than you think. And I think, since no one else here seems to be an Incubus fan, their style is unfamiliar to you guys. But they are very familiar to me. And to say I think they fit like glove in hand, would be the best impression I have of this collab. I'm saddened that no one else sees the beauty of this composition from Mike. I was hoping this collab would make new Incubus fans and vice versa. 🤷 P.S. I still can't believe you've never heard Drive.😂
Interesting take… what Incubus album would you recommend as a great introduction to the band? Doesn’t have to be a “safe” pick, as I love Band Maid, and all their complexity, as well as lots of classic, and prog, rock and metal.
I hear that, too. There are melodic moves in the verse vocal line particularly that really remind me mid-to-late day Incubus. It's a nice melody and a nice song but this feels like Mike was trying to write an accessible hit with them. The chordal approach, too. I feel like there's a bit more B-M than you. There's definitely some Kanami-isms and rhythm section stuff but Mike's influence is pretty prominent. It'll possibly be a grower but, right now, it feels too safe. I was hoping for more of a crazy early Incubus style but really didn't expect it. I am very curious about the lyrics, though. They sound well done. And Saiki and Miku do sound great.
@@ApexRadius I feel like this is a song Mike has had sitting on the shelf, and when he heard Band-Maid at Point Fest, a💡 went off inside his head. Because this song DOES feel a bit early 2000's, doesn't it?
Hi Sofi, I am happy you found Buy Me a Coffee for accepting donations, they only take 5%. I always encourage creators to use it. I like your format, honest reactions from your soul. Band-Maid is my favorite band, so unique and truly entertaining. Band-Maid is my goto music whether I happy or down, I always feel better and full of energy after listening to their songs. Keep up the fantastic work. The best people continue even when they make a mistake. Stay brave and continue having fun and smiling.
Thank you for the video. I felt the same way as you. It means that you have carried out other people's recipes wonderfully. For example, if you listen to their own recipe "Wanderland", you will find beautiful melodies, dense and variegated instrumentals, non-repeating verses, asymmetrical compositions, like a Japan garden. I was able to reaffirm how great it was when they performed their music. Your reaction speaks for itself. That's great.
Decent song. Could have been a conqueror period song that didn’t make it onto the album … imo Band maid don’t need Mike’s influence or anyone else’s … they’re so much better just doing their own thing. Their standard is just so high…. Update.. after repeated listens I am finding it’a real grower!
Actually, one thing I definitely did like was that it doesn't have the 'scratchy guitar' sound that Kanami has favoured very heavily of late, although I wasn't wild about the guitar tone of the opening and closing bars of the song. Without knowing Incubus, is almost feels like the the guy played those parts, and bookended a Band-Maid song with them.
I never heard Incubus before but another reactor played some clips and I can definitely hear the influence. It’s a nice touch of something a little different. Great collaboration. Band Maid keeps evolving. They are awesome.
Well, I read that Saiki spoke a little about the new record during the recent acoustic show and, according to one attendee, she said something like "there are many intense songs." So, if that's true, probably not a lot like this one, although you can always expect some curveballs.
I don't know anything about INCUBUS, but I'm a HUGE Band Maid fan. I can't say this is the best BM song I ever heard but I still like it! I still did not hear even 1 bad song from them. So this is pretty good song and as always awesome Queen Kanami solo!!! So Band Maid is still the best rock band for me! Thanks for your reaction and comments.
I like hearing Saiki sustaining notes for longer rather than almost rapping. I think the Kanami solo could've been a bit more varied. Maybe the closest song they've done to Daydreaming in many ways, without being as good? Overall I like it. It may get better with repeated plays.
Enjoyable. My favorite bits from Band-Maid are always where they go legato with the melody line, so this is a win for me. I suspect the collaboration is noticeable in the intro/outro. That sounds like single coils, not a guitar tone I've ever heard from Mincho before. I wonder if Einziger is credited as an instrumentalist as well as writer?
It hits me like a song that would be playing background during a movie scene. What came to mind is Hello by Sugarbomb during the luau scene at the end of Van Wilder.
Another all English song! Sounds very different from the norm for them. I feel this wouldn't feel too out of place from their Conqueror album. Also Sai-chan's beautiful voice...
Well, finally! It has been a curious experience having to wait for the planet to finish spinning to access the song. Most of the reactions were popping up hours before I could hear it. But I stood my ground and I'm glad. I learned a long time ago not to get carried away until I listened to their new music at least five times. My summary. I like it, I think it's better than Memorable (their last ballad) and better than At the Drop of the Hat but (still) below the rest of their melodic production, very far from Anemone in my humble opinion. It is an excellent effort to build bridges to other ears. Einzinger's contribution seems to me to have been that of a charioteer in her chariot pulling the reins, it must not have been easy to restrain the girls faithful to a simpler melody than usual for them. The best, Brighter Star, Maggie and Bestie point to a different new album, something more Conqueror, written with time and the desire to try things. I'm really excited to see where Kanami's creative genius is going to take us. Thanks Howard!
Ok I managed to listen to it. I like it. I'm not surprised at the mixed reaction though. It reminds me of a lot of the 90s sounds I remember growing up. The only thing for me to complain about is that the chorus is a bit too...normal? for me. They always back off a bit in the chorus but I think for this one they took a bit too much off. Other than that, I really like it. I'm happy to get Band-Maid's take on a different sound.
First impressions are that Akane is selling the song with the drums and it works well as an album track. Agree that it is a safe Band Maid song. It is a grower. Not a knockout punch or a tear jerker but a nice song. I was really hoping to disagree with the comments. But I think you are spot on. Damn and blast.
I'm in complete agreement with your take on this. I like the song fine, but it sounds like another of those gentler, more melodic and wistful numbers BM do so well, like Daydreaming and Catharsis. So where is Einziger's contribution? Have Band-Maid given us their take on Schrodinger's cat?
I love MISA's playing... and Akane's... and Kanami's... and the recording is good, too! Miku's lyrics are heartfelt. "I can't look into your eyes." Is Saiki her bestie? But Saiki masterfully delivers her lyrics, as always. BTW - The volume of lyrics and nuanced melodies she's committed to memory over the years is simply mind-blowing! Mikey did good at giving them his direction for the song, and probably helped with the English lyrics -- a good growth for Miku's craft. I don't understand why Kanami said she couldn't have come up with the main riff. Probably just her being super polite, as usual. I like the groove and feel of the song. I was waiting for, "I don't give a f**k" at the end. But maybe with these particular "Bestie" lyrics, that wouldn't be such a good idea. Even though at first listen it felt on par with Start Over It will undoubtedly do what every Band-Maid song does -- grow on you! Got to break through to the mainstream market with a few cuts, right? Hopefully Bestie helps with that! Thx, Band-Maid! And thanks, Howard!

This is much more accessible right off the bat for non-musos, who are 95% of the overall market.

An introduction to B-M? Nah, it doesn't really represent what you mostly get from them. Maybe for a few listeners but it'll be misleading. It's ok, kinda like Band Maid being North Americanized. I don't see this helping them at all as far as radio. Yes it's Band Maid kinda being told what to do. FREEDOM is a perfect radio rock and roll song if given a change it would take off...this is still pretty good, nothing special...was hoping for better to be honest...still a huge fan of Band Maid
I didn't dislike it, but felt that whoever it was they collaborated with (tried listening to Incubus but found it boringly average) succeeded in watering down Band-Maid. They can do this better on their own.
Also, the sound quality was not up to the usual quality. Normally you can hear everyone, no matter how busy the track is, but in this the sound was sludgy and the balance was weird. That may be down to the reactor's channel. Not sure if it's on the forthcoming album or a single - either way I'll wait to buy it and listen to it before deciding on that.
IDK the groove to me felt nothing like a band maid song. Drums were generally more constrained than Akane is used to, and the structure is more like their more commercial offerings from pre Mincho writing. the riff is also not very Mincho, especially modern Mincho. About the only things that feel full on Band Maid are Misa's Bassline and to a lesser degree, Saiki, and the occasional doodle that Kanami throws in. I actually felt it was a decent but compared to what they have been putting out before, is a bit mid. Don't hate it, maybe it will grow some, maybe not, time will tell, but it's not the instant grab me by the pants banger that Band Maid usually kicks out.
The song goes nowhere, everything on Maid in Japan is so much better, nothing like Conqueror (a superb album that shows their versatility). This is bland west coast grunge. First fail in 11 years. The best thing about it is it shows the quality of Kanami's song writing.
Very catchy tune and Kanami's solo is brilliant 🔥

The song goes nowhere, everything on Maid in Japan is so much better, nothing like Conqueror (a superb album that shows their versatility). This is bland west coast grunge. First fail in 11 years. The best thing about it is it shows the quality of Kanami's song writing.
It was okay. I probably won't listen to it a lot.
14 years ago that band was ok? At best. Now they need to ride a Japanese womans rock band to try and make a come back ??? Nice really classy 😂
Jesus, very average for bandmaid
It will be better live.
@@saikisfang9339 maybe
It's a bit......it's ok
Well, this guy seems nice 😜
