Iorveth was sorely missed during the third instalment. It really was a crying shame that he wasn't in it, because it honestly would have been great to see Iorveth and his Scoia'tael fighting side by side with Vernon Roche and the Blue Stripes against the Wild Hunt during the Battle of Kaer Morhen.
Missed one of the best parts unfortunately. There was this conversation right before you enter Flotsam pretending to have captured Iorveth which went something along the lines of : Geralt: I take back what I said - you're not grandiose, you're mad. Iorveth: My mother claimed likewise.
I'd thumb that comment up more than once if I could. Though I kinda agree with him (especially the rant about 1000 years one human will climb a pile of bones).
tigress666 XD I agree unfortunately with him as well.. might be part of why I find it so hot. The feelings I've always had about humanity, put perfectly into words.
thats why I love geralt, a walking contradiction. if I have to choose between one evil and another ,I rather not choose at all. 5 seconds later : chooses.
It's depressingly funny how Iorveth goes on about how evil the humans are and how they didn't do anything to help the elf women, and in the same breath acknowledging that Dandelion, a human, was the only one who tried to save them...
Cyprian Podściański Dandelion's human, though I remember an entry in one of the games that mentioned that he's sometimes mistaken for a half-elf (because of his good looks?) Man, I need to get another hobby...
I've always seen Iorveth as a man who has been pushed to the edge and left to simmer in his pain. He does what he can for what little of his people he can reach, and knows very well he fights against possible inevitability. And he hates the idea that the extinction/fading of the elves is possibly inevitable, so much so he riots against it in the most violent way possible. His life thus becomes ruled by Us vs. Them; elves vs. all of humanity.
That's what make him different of most Scoia'taels: Most Scoia'taels just want revenge against humans and die while taking as much of them with them as they can. They have lost all hopes for their own futurs and the futur of their specie. Iorveth is different because he fight to actually save his people, even if that mean working alongside the specie he hate the most. Saskia saved him in a way by giving him hope.
Yea, Roche doesn't really hold much of a candle to Iorveth. Both are deeply flawed in their own way, but Roche is a simple man who is a patriot first and a friend second. If he perceives you as a threat that just means you are another obstacle to eliminate. You can say the same for Iorveth for sure, but at least you get the sense that there is some level of mutual respect and deeper thoughts there beneath all the cynicism - and that cynicism is rather understandable for someone who has lived to see his entire race fall into ruin and now face extinction.
Agree. But whereas Roche wants to preserve the status quo, Iorveth wants to save the elder races and help Saskia establish a free state in Vergen. Despite all his cynicism, Iorveth is an idealist who wants to create a better world, believing he has no choice but to do awful things to achieve that world. Vernon Roche is only an idealist, but as he puts it clearly in TW3, his only ideal is Temeria, which is a rather short-sighted goal.
@@Lafuerza_V Both characters are supposed to be deeply flawed, so recognizing this probably just means you have a more mature and nuanced mindset now. For what it's worth, what I remember Iorveth most for in terms of bad traits was resentment and bitterness.
@@TheStigma Very true, that’s the problem with getting older, You naturally get more cynical towards all sorts of things. I still think he’s a very compelling character, despite what I just said. The dichotomy with him and Roche is great. Cdpr did a fantastic job.
One of my absolute favorites is when Iorveth is yelling at the angry mob in Vergen. First time I heard that I was like, "Holy shit! Iorveth ain't playin'."
I always preferred Iorveth to Roche; his cause is more valid. Roche is just a patriot, fighting for lines drawn on a map, whereas Iorveth is fighting against the persecution of his species.
That last comment about his hate for the human species after he said gerald was the most honest human he had ever met. I almost pissed myself. I should play this, just because i fucking love Iorveth.
Kronos camron Iorveth is dead sadly you hear the elves say it themselves in The Witcher 3 even if you side with him in the 2nd game, which sucks because he is by far the most badass character in the game
Kronos camron yeah I figured that out after I looked at cut content one of which included all the scoia'tael leaders you sided with, which would have been awesome.
Roche and Iorveth are the best characters in the game! But both have flaws that lead them into unnecessarily dangerous situations. For Roche it's his recklessness/hastiness and Iorveth it's his arrogance
They have been betrayed by almost everyone and shunned and branded terrorists although they are the only force fighting for the freedom of the elves. I like the scoia'tael.
Iorveth is my absolutely fav character from books, from both games and from all elves - maybe along with Ciaran aep Easnillen. This elf just rocks and also I NEVER regretted, that I chose his path - any other choice wouldn't be possible to make ;D
I wonder how many people didnt or rather wont connect the comparison to the fight Iorveth fights for to the same one minorities all around the world in various countries fight everyday. The oppression and racism that the elves and dwarves faces its no surprise he himself is prejudice to anyone of the human race. I've always choose his path whenever i wanted to re-beat the witcher 2 and although his ideals were on the far spectrum of extreme i cant help but sympathize for his cause and root for him. Plus he just looks really fucking cool with an awesome accent.
"oppression and prejudice causes a self propagating cycle of violence that will inevitably draw in more and more people and will lead to the inevitable extinction of all sentient life": perfectly fine. *character is black*: You made it political!!!!!
No, it's from Iorveth's path. While Saskia is poisoned and unconscious and before the problems with Prince Stennis, you can find Iorveth in his quarters near the path that heads north from Vergen. It's actually the only time you get to have some casual chat with him.
In my opinion iorveth not being in W3 is one of its few screw ups, that, radovid going bat shit crazy, and djikstra being out of character at the end of the story.
Yeah. Iorveth is better than Vermin Roche and his blue swines. But Siegfried is better than those two bastards. He is a true friend of Geralt because Siegfried puts his friendship with Geralt above politics. I read the books 10 years ago and I know that Geralt almost always stays neutral but i chose The Order. In TW2 i chose Iorveth. At least Iorveth wanna stop his own war against humanity. And he wanna start living peacefully in Vergen and the relationship between Geralt and Vermin is you help me and ill help you. It isn't friendship...
He is mentioned in some conversations you can hear while walking around at an elf camp outside Oxenfurt i believe. There's some elves arguing about whether he's dead or not. Originally he was meant to play a central role in a subplot involving the plague, but they couldn't get it to work and they were running out of time so they significantly cut down Roche's part, recycled Keira Metz' part into the Fyke Isle quest, recycled Gaunter O'Dimm for Hearts of Stone, and totally cut Iorveth from the game. That's why part of why the third act just doesn't feel quite right, huge chunks have been left on the cutting room floor. It's also why Reason of State is sucha dogshit quest, cause it's partly made of stitched together bits of the plague storyline
Jorick12 Who knows. I saw several characters voiced by Iorveth'a actor. I'm pretty sure he will be there, not sure if ti will be the main game or expansions.
Iorveth is not a main character of the series. Maybe for the witcher 2, that is true. Read the books, way more important elves than iorveth. True fans would say dandelion, vesemir, or ciri. In andrezj sapkowskis universe iorveth does not even exist. If we are speaking aboug cannon and non-cannon that is.
mamatt199 Iorveth is mentioned in the books in a short passage as one of the two elven leaders who survived the massacre. But of course you as a "true fan" already know that ;-)
Lapinkulta52 I'm almost 3 years late but.... It was confirmed long ago that this Iorveth is not the one mentioned in the novels. Just saying. In fact he was higlhy based on the character Isengrim, "Iron wolf".
@3:45 - 4:13 thats exactly how i feel about the world today..alot of people are to obsessed with their own pride and ego and refuse to wanna help one another..its sad really..

I just want to drag into a room representatives from all the major game studios in the world, point to the storytelling in this game and go "THIS IS HOW YOU DO IT!"
I best this game once a week for three weeks and the iorveth path is a lot more interesting. The only good thing about the Roche path is that you get to be with Ves and you get to see the morbid childishness of Dethmold. Iorveth and the dwarves are much more colorful characters and are worth the extra playthrough. Iorveth is almost the reason I play the game aside from the fact that its my favorite game of all time.
Griffin Wheeler (don't take it the wrong way here) but i really have trouble to even see why people consider Iorveth as a great character, i played until the next chapter of the "kraken thing" and i can't change my point of view on him. I REALLY don't like him. I find Iorveth dumb and immature, he is a walking stereotype of anger and bitterness and despite the fact that this path contains (apparently so, you're not the only one to tell me that) more plot points, my version of the witcher will stick to Roche and his killing of Dethomld. Anyway i will play with this save in the witcher 3 but thanks for your opinion! :)
darktoto95 As weird as it is, one of the reasons i like him so much is his voice, i think its really awesome. Idk, he has some cool/funny moments whereas Roche is just a dick pretty much all the time, he's a man I respect for his loyalty and sense of duty, but he's still a dick :P
Griffin Wheeler well that is a really arbitrary reason to like someone! "his voice" X'D He's not a dick on my opinion, not the slightest. He's loyal and proud but he also has a sense of justice (he risked his life to save the little girl and killed the king in retribution for the rape of her friend) I would love to debate more but i really don't recal that much so... still i couldn't stand Iorveth, he's fighting for nothing and just increases the hatred toward humans. He can only kill but a real change comes with a change of mentality. He's the typical terrorist who doesn't understand his actions have negative long term consequences well that's my opinion anyway.
darktoto95 Iorveth isn't fighting for nothing,he's fighting for the freedom of his race, which no one will grant them unless they fight. He goes to Vergen because it's one of the few places in the world where humans and nonhumans live together without hate. He's fighting for a better tomorrow for his people, one where elves can roam free, humans wont have to worry about being shot by elven arrows in forests, and where dwarves wont be confined to mines. He's done some terrible things but there isn't really another way for him to free his people. He follows Saskia because she is the only one who can lead the world into a better time. He puts Saskias needs and therefore the needs of the people above all else, He's a good man, but desperate times call for desperate measures. Same can be said for Roche, though he hates elves because they are elves. Iorveth hates humans because they have all but wiped out his race. Neither is really fully justified but Iorveths cause carries more weight in my opinion.
When you jump off the barge you have two choices - save the elf girls in the burning building or chase Loredo. One of the girls will "reward" you in the next level - not killing Loredo misses a lot of loot and points. Hard choice.
The story of the games is settled after the stories of the books but yes, some of the characters (but not all!) already existed in the books. So Iorveth is mentioned in the book "Baptism of Fire"...Dandelion, Zoltan, Yarpen etc. too. But Letho and Roche instead are only game characters and don't exist in the books.
Thanks for this! May I ask how do you get to kill Laredo and join Iorveth? I haven't managed that outcome yet (on my 4th play-through this time with that whoreson Roche. yech! lol Also you forgot the LotR easter egg. One of the best exchanges in the game. :D
Iorveth's Path is more in line with chasing Triss, though - that's probably reason enough for Geralt to side with him. Then it also depends how sympathetic you are with the Scoia'Tael. Iorveth's up against a wall - those fighting him aren't afraid of killing women and children, and he isn't afraid of responding in kind. It's very much an ends justifies the means scenario. And unlike Roche, that end is an ideal - the Free Vergen ideal, which applies to humans and non-humans alike.
hey guys by the way, in reality Geralt's nickname would be "bleidd gwyn" [bleyth gooin] or "Bleiddgwyn" maybe as a name they got it backwards and even pronounce it wrong.. it's Welsh.
No, King Einon is played by David Thewlis, he same guy who plays Professor Lupin in Harry Potter, Jerry Barker in Black Beauty, Cyrus Crabb in Dinotopia and much more. Iorveth is voiced by Mark Frost who, last year, was starring as the Joker in a live version of Batman. Sounds lame, but he makes a kickass Joker. I don't know if that is still touring or not.
To be honest it seems like Iorveth's path is the best one ! If you don't go on his path there is nothing you can do to save Vergen and Roach's path doesn't really achieve anything special since his temerian unit gets wiped out by Henselt . I don't even see any reason to do anything with him because of this and going with Iorveth makes tactical sense since he knows more about Letho and his people so he's the perfect man for the job. Plus that why should I help Roach ? No matter what you do Temeria will end divided, while if you help Ivoreth you can actually make a difference and save the cool Vergen community
Iorveth is the best NPC in the game and one of the best elf characters in fantasy.
The Question he was cut from the game sadly
How about a full Witcher 2 Remaster available for all platforms?
That would make me reach for my wallet
The Question, wouldn't that be great! Oooh, my imagination is running..

"his voice" X'D
He's not a dick on my opinion, not the slightest. He's loyal and proud but he also has a sense of justice (he risked his life to save the little girl and killed the king in retribution for the rape of her friend)
I would love to debate more but i really don't recal that much so... still i couldn't stand Iorveth, he's fighting for nothing and just increases the hatred toward humans. He can only kill but a real change comes with a change of mentality. He's the typical terrorist who doesn't understand his actions have negative long term consequences
well that's my opinion anyway.
darktoto95 Iorveth isn't fighting for nothing,he's fighting for the freedom of his race, which no one will grant them unless they fight.
"Many a poison cures, provided the dosage is small enough." - Geralt of Rivia
What the fuck is wrong with your scabbards?! The swords remain perfectly still, but the scabbards bounce all over the place XD
When you jump off the barge you have two choices - save the elf girls in the burning building or chase Loredo. One of the girls will "reward" you in the next level - not killing Loredo misses a lot of loot and points. Hard choice.
Man, I HATE that they deleted the famous "in your face" animation from 1:24 :( it was so cool!
I meant, which path leads to you seeing Iorveth without the eyepatch? haha
Is Iorveth in witcher 3. Can't find him anywhere.
+TheGmdMaster no he's not.... sorry.
MrHandy 2 Ye, hopefully in the second dlc i hope.
+TheGmdMaster Confirmed by CDProjectRed that he isnt, it is a sad day
he actually is but as a gwent card!
Iorveth is as boss as they come. I hope he's in the Witched 3
Whachu mean, Witcha?
in game fantasy yes but in movies : lotr elves ftw
You should do a best of letho vid
I love how the Elves have slightly pointed ears, are tall, muscular and prominent noses
Where does the scene from 4:40, with Iorveth eye naked, comes from? Its from Vernon path?
Oh.. I did the Iorveth path and I don't remember that, owell...
I love how underplayed, subtle and realistic it all feels.
In mass effect it sounds like they're all reading cue cards off screen.
Does anyone know in which of the books Iorveth is mentioned? :D
Cool as he is he doesnt beat the Broche
Thanks for this! May I ask how do you get to kill Laredo and join Iorveth? I haven't managed that outcome yet (on my 4th play-through this time with that whoreson Roche. yech! lol
Also you forgot the LotR easter egg. One of the best exchanges in the game. :D
How do you get that conversation that happens at 4:25?
Iorveth's Path is more in line with chasing Triss, though - that's probably reason enough for Geralt to side with him.
Then it also depends how sympathetic you are with the Scoia'Tael. Iorveth's up against a wall - those fighting him aren't afraid of killing women and children, and he isn't afraid of responding in kind. It's very much an ends justifies the means scenario.
And unlike Roche, that end is an ideal - the Free Vergen ideal, which applies to humans and non-humans alike.
*clap clap*
Sad boys, Iorveth not in the expansions, feels bad boys
What chu mean Witchah.??
hey guys by the way, in reality Geralt's nickname would be "bleidd gwyn" [bleyth gooin] or "Bleiddgwyn" maybe as a name they got it backwards and even pronounce it wrong..
Iorveth is best boi. Too bad he isn't in 3.
3:12
convincing explanation to join the Scoia Tael
PREACH ON BROTHER! I liked Fenris, but god is Iorveth so much fucking better.
"Baptism of Fire" ...but this book isn't published in English yet.
1:39 - 1:46 is my favorite part.
