Having never played any of the games, read any of the books, knowing only the merest scraps of lore, this 21 minute triumph of dialogue illuminated a fuckton, in addition to giving some pointers about what to read up on for a general view of the story
Tyranny, Divinity Original Sin 2, Fallout New Vegas etc. Many games provide an opportunity not only to release the main villain, but also to go to his side. Streets of Rage - the first game I ever had, gave you the opportunity to switch to the villain's side at the end.
Everyone talking about joining villains, but there's only one game to this day where you can run away from every boss fight like a little chicken and that is Deus Ex (the original).
Letho: I paid the monk a lot of Oren’s to keep silent… A second later: actually it was only a loan cos I killed him later. Only the dead can keep a secret This dude cooold
Letho is my favorite character in the entire series. So interesting, so complex. As strong and dangerous as he is cunning. His motivations are logical and relatable, and despite being a remorseless killer, he has a clear code of honor. I never killed him in any of my playthroughs, and I was glad when he showed up in 3.
It's just too good. I usually dont watch videos that last 20 minutes and that you dont really need to watch, just listen, unless i'm myself busy with something (dishes for instance). But this time, I was glued to my monitor. I couldnt stop listening. The voice acting is amazing, the story is amazing, the dialogues are amazing. When I see how high in quality it can get, it hurts even more when you play games like Halo infinite, ruined by some of the most dogshit story/dialogue/voice acting i've ever seen.
Letho is arguably the most loyal character in this universe. The dude literally sacrifices a continent peace so his fellow witchers can come home to the school of the viper. Literally, me and my homies against the world. While Geralt has a more strict moral compass he is very devoted to his fellow witchers as well. He would kill for them if it came down to it. Not innocent civilians at least. Letho in W3 shares a story were he let's his bounty walk free because he liked the guy after sharing a drink overnight. To Letho things are usually just a job and no hard feelings, but he is far from being heartless. In W3 Vesemir doesn't like Letho but they share a goal of better life/public respect for all witchers. Vesemir is often on Eskel, Lambert and Geralts ass to uphold witcher public image. To play devil's advocate, the passive route has hardly done anything for the witcher caste. They are more successful when they carve a piece of world for themselves. (School of cat) Lambert throttles people that make him angry. Letho throttles people if it serves a purpose, it's a job or it helps a fellow witcher. Geralt throttles people if he deemed them evil according to his own code, is protecting someone or self defense. Letho is like Geralt but more disciplined, methodical and chaotic.
In the original version, at 2:50 he says the line "There is no accounting for taste" in latin. Knowing latin language was considered a sign of high education in medieval times. Plus in Poland, using latin sentences in the middle of conversation or in written works was a sign of high culture (and once again, education). It was a great way to convey how intelligent Letho is.
It's something I adore in writing of both games and books- characters are never defined by their physical appearance and tropes associated with it, but appearance still influences them. Yeneffer is beautiful, but she used to be a hunchback and she has some spite left because of that fact. Geralt often uses the prejudice towards witchers for his own benefits, claiming that his mutations rob him of all kinds of human emotions. And Letho is a big, bulky man, but not only is he highly clever playing everybody like a fiddle, but he is also aware of how others perceive him due to this appearance and uses the fact others underestimate his intelligence.
“Wraiths cannot he killed only driven off, every Witcher knows that.” I feel like I have killed a number of specters in the Witcher 3 especially boss ones that are per say haunting a village and I pretty much told every quest giver I killed them, are they not actually dead?
@Paraponera T actually he usually says "they're gone" or "they wont trouble you again" or something like that. I dont think Geralt ever says "I killed those ghosts" or whatever
In witcher 3 you cant kill ghosts, it's even mentioned a few times that he has to drive them away, because for some reason when they died, their ghosts cannot move on, usually because of hatred, revenge or curse, so it is up to Geralt to force them to move on.
Having played Witcher 3 first and Witcher 2 later, I had been thinking that there is no way I would spare Letho in the end (I knew we have an option). Then so many events happened and saw how politics are very dirty and there is not a single innocent person among them. I noticed that I can not keep killing every evil I see. For this reason I spared Henselt first, then sparing Letho was even easier when he told us that he and Geralt was friends. Involving in politics that much and witnessing that there is no good- greater evil or lesser evil- is something I like about this game and maked it a different experience that I consider worth playing. In W3 we are not that deep into politics. Sure, we help Cerys or Hjalmar but this is just honest help with no dirty schemes. There is assasination of Radovid but that is also pretty straight forward without complicated moral choices.
i was soo happy to see Letho again in wild hunt. minor quest deserved more screen time. same goes for Iorveth. Scoia'tael in general. many other characters from the books too.
5:29 - I became interested in Witcher because I saw the old TV show (2002 I think). So I decided years later to read the books. I liked Geralt's character very much. But then I just couldn't get over Yennefer. I so strongly disagreed with his taste in that woman, that I just stopped reading the books. I was glad that she was absent in the first two Witcher games. And now at the end Letho talks about Yennefer, and her description and distaste for her character completely mirrors mine. It's so funny. I nearly forgot she existed, and his description is so on point. Having temper tantrums, trying to seduce people for her gains, trying to turn people against their friends, everywhere she goes she gets her and her accomplices in trouble, having whims and vigor of a duchess, yet being just a simple arrogant witch. I think someone even described her relationship with Geralt as toxic. I just don't like her one bit. I fail to see why would Geralt of all people see anything in her.
Their fates are intertwined by magic at a time when Geralt and Yennefer were against each other, but Geralt ended up saving her life. After that, they were bound to one another magically
They don't love each other because of that Djinn. Geralt's wish was to have kids with Yen to protect her from Djinn's anger. Djinn bounded their destiny with Ciri's destiny. He wanted Ciri to become their child. They fell in love during the process.
Letho is a great character. Wild Hunt was great, but as we have learned from GOT the most compelling stories are the ones involving relatable human plotlines and not so much the fantasy ones.
I kill him beacause of what he did to the north, rather than what he did to Geralt. He just sowed chaos on the north, opening the way to Nilfigard and leading thousands to die on the process, while believing in some fake promisse from Emyhr to restore the School of The Viper. He was selfish and naive and I'm mad at him by that time of the game. But I understand the reason to spare him, he is not evil, he spare Geralt's life on their first fight and even save Triss if you didn't save her first. That's why I always save Triss, because if he saves her I wouldn't be able to kill him.
First reply is right. Letho is responsible for a lot of death, war, and extinction of nations all only to reopen a mercenary school that didn't actually reopen.

V - Trigger Well most characters aren’t expressive in Witcher 2 so that’s more on technical level. Plus Geralt is human, people just want to call him a mutant. The cinematic trailer shows how Geralt changed.
MusicisLife8393 Bruh, you’re the only one making up facts. -Which town are you talking about, if you’re talking about Blaviken that was a lot more complicated, but to sum it up Geralt attacked to save hostages from being killed but the peasants who saw thought he massacred a group of innocents. If you’re talking about Rivia, he was killing rioters who were attacking and killing non humans, so Geralt was defending innocents at the cost of his own life when he got stabbed with a pitchfork. Witcher’s were celebrated heroes during the time when Monsters were practically everywhere. Once most of the monsters were gone though, people began hating them because they were almost no longer necessary. And began calling them mutants, And oh! How dare Witcher’s work for a living. Monster hunting is a safe profession that requires no materials at all! How dare Witcher’s get money for the work they do. How dumb are you to make this point?
Letho fell for the same trick Emyhr played on dozens of other people over the course of the three wars; give a little to get a lot. He offered a portion of upper Aedirn to king Henselt in exchange for not coming to king Demavend's aid when Nilfgaard invaded, knowing he can just take it back later. He promised the scoi'atel their own province in the new Empire in exchange for guerilla raids on important targets, knowing he could cut them loose and let them twist in the wind. And here he did it again with Letho, Serrit and Aukes, playing on their desire to see the School of the Viper reinstated, and totally reneging on their deal by sending assassins after him to tie off loose ends. I don't fault Letho for falling for Emyhr's treachery, even if his actions caused irreparable damage to the northern kingdoms. The books and games take place over the course of more than a decade though, you'd think at least one person would realise why the Emperor is able to get people to do what he wants at almost no expense to himself.
I wish the witchers who "should be alive and on the path" made an appearance in Witcher 3. That would have been sick, especially if you kept letho alive. Could have been a whole epic sidequest

Nah Letho definitely had to die. He took a contract to kill humans, he broke the code. In doing so he allowed unprecedented chaos and death down upon the northern kingdoms. You could argue it was supposed to be make the takeover less bloody, but kingdoms without kinds will turn into hellpits. In the end it is Geralts duty as a Witcher to bring down a fallen Witcher.

Witcher 2 is a goddamn beautiful game.
I miss iorveth in witcher 3, he should have been in the battle of Kear Morhan,
Elves vs elves nice
Letho is my favorite character in the entire series. So interesting, so complex. As strong and dangerous as he is cunning. His motivations are logical and relatable, and despite being a remorseless killer, he has a clear code of honor. I never killed him in any of my playthroughs, and I was glad when he showed up in 3.
Lol I thought they would hate each other all ways but when they met each other in witcher 3 it was as if they were buddies 😂

*Geralt leaves himself*
I've always liked letho

(School of cat)
Lambert throttles people that make him angry. Letho throttles people if it serves a purpose, it's a job or it helps a fellow witcher. Geralt throttles people if he deemed them evil according to his own code, is protecting someone or self defense.
Letho is like Geralt but more disciplined, methodical and chaotic.
Love the way letho says teleport, "TELLY PORT"
When they started talking about cards, I was sure the final battle would be a round of Gwent
Letho, aka Joe "Popeye" Rogan.
JL-XrtaMayoNoCheese not enough... uh whatever he's smoking nowaydays. Horse pills or something?
“Wraiths cannot he killed only driven off, every Witcher knows that.” I feel like I have killed a number of specters in the Witcher 3 especially boss ones that are per say haunting a village and I pretty much told every quest giver I killed them, are they not actually dead?
Wraiths are already dead in the first place
He probably didn't have time in the middle of combat to perform the the steps necessary to completely remove them.
What is dead may never die
@Paraponera T actually he usually says "they're gone" or "they wont trouble you again" or something like that. I dont think Geralt ever says "I killed those ghosts" or whatever
In witcher 3 you cant kill ghosts, it's even mentioned a few times that he has to drive them away, because for some reason when they died, their ghosts cannot move on, usually because of hatred, revenge or curse, so it is up to Geralt to force them to move on.
1:50
Geralt: "Ready to lay your cards out on the table?"
Letho: Wanna play gwent? 😂😂😂
Still better than Netflix's witcher
Their fates are intertwined by magic at a time when Geralt and Yennefer were against each other, but Geralt ended up saving her life. After that, they were bound to one another magically
They don't love each other because of that Djinn. Geralt's wish was to have kids with Yen to protect her from Djinn's anger. Djinn bounded their destiny with Ciri's destiny. He wanted Ciri to become their child. They fell in love during the process.
@@homoxymoronomatura It was trough magic, in witcher 3 you can break their bond in a mission in skeliige.

so applying letho nilfgaardians treat witchers worse than nordlings. it's no wonder i sided with dijkstra.
Can’t understand why anyone would wanna kill Letho.
That's why I always save Triss, because if he saves her I wouldn't be able to kill him.
becose the battle is so epic.
both choices are oddly poetic in their own ways
First reply is right. Letho is responsible for a lot of death, war, and extinction of nations all only to reopen a mercenary school that didn't actually reopen.

V - Trigger Well most characters aren’t expressive in Witcher 2 so that’s more on technical level.
Plus Geralt is human, people just want to call him a mutant.
The cinematic trailer shows how Geralt changed.
MusicisLife8393 Yeah but he’s still a human.
The populace prefers to call him a mutant though, despite all the Witcher’s have done for them.
And began calling them mutants,
And oh! How dare Witcher’s work for a living. Monster hunting is a safe profession that requires no materials at all! How dare Witcher’s get money for the work they do. How dumb are you to make this point?

I swear to God this game looked better when I played it like a decade ago.
I always let Letho go, such a cool character. He makes an appearence in 3 as well.
Yeah, for me it was the best ending on my Roche path...cos an epic and cool but illogical fight is not always needed to end a great story🤷♂️
Damn I want to play this now
Letho fell for the same trick Emyhr played on dozens of other people over the course of the three wars; give a little to get a lot.
