    I just snatched one (the first UFX3 in my country AFAIK) so far amazing system, RME routing and options are just next level IMO, plus the quality is really good and despite the relatively high price (not so high if you compare to UAD or other higher end stuff), it's worth every penny, my old Motu which was having some hardware and also driver problems in newer windows is delegated to preamp and DA duty.

    I’m deeply invested in UAD’s DSP plugins and hardware. I’m all for native versions, but there just isn’t enough available yet to get my work done with native. The 1176, LA-2, and Pultec bundles help, but they need to do a deal with SSL, and then I’ll be able to shift a lot of mixes to mostly native processing. Kind of wishing I built my workflow around API instead, but like a lot of people, I chose SSL a while ago. I wonder if they will ever strike a deal, with SSL selling their own plugins.

    Once I realized how few of their plugins I could run at any given time, quite honestly I was turned off and didn't buy any more. I kept looking to see if either I was doing something wrong regarding the allocation of dsp or maybe I didn't buy the right Apollo unit? Nope, it just sucked, not enough processing power. Their plugins were great but they were expensive, and I was limited regarding their use, which seemed ridiculous to me, given the cost. So all of this news was a totally pleasant surprise to me! I only learned about the native plugins a month or so ago. And I think it's really great that I was able to download the native versions of the plugins I owned. Even though it's totally fair and makes sense, I wasn't expecting that. Kudos.

I have sufficient outboard via Midas Heritage and Cadac Live1 so micpre amps are not a concern. What do you recommend to achieve 32 I/O+ via an RME converter? Should I go with the new UFX III and add the Ferrofish 32, or will the RME M-32 AD Pro match the sonic chipset quality of the new UFX III? This will be running on the MacBook M2 processor. It is striking that so far there is only the API Vison console for Luna. There could be licensing reasons behind this. However, it is also conceivable that UA will develop a kind of hardware mixer/controller/audio interface for Luna that is precisely aligned with the API Vision console. I could imagine something like The Box from API, except that the sound comes from the computer or the internal DSP.

    • @CreativeMindsAudio
      @CreativeMindsAudio Год назад

      Agreed, plugin alliance has dominated that business model and i wish more companies followed that way. But the reason it works is because they have a lot of people constantly building plugins for them. Other companies may release a few plugins a year if that. Also they may only release a few plugins period. Take soundtoys or fab filter they don’t update often but their stuff is top notch for what it is. UA is similar in that it doesn’t do a lot of new plugin releases every year now. Subscriptions that are rent to own only truly work best when lots of new stuff is constantly being churned out. Cause if they made 5 awesome new plugins every year you’ll want to stay subscribed. This is why PA has me keep paying them every year 😂.

  • @DanBires
    @DanBires Год назад +1

    If you go back to the old pro tools days it's the same thing. You had to have their interface to run protools. Then they changed it to where you could use other interfaces and that changed the game. Same deal with UA. It was going to happen and it was just timing. Hopefully they keep moving in this direction and I think they will. The only thing I wonder is what they will do with native plugins verse DSP. I noticed they are in no hurry to make all the native versions so guys like me who own most of the DSP versions could just get those. They seem to keep making new ones and that bothers me a bit.

    • @BarryJohns
      @BarryJohns  18 дней назад

      The Carbon is a great sounding interface. It has limited expandability and closed AVB. The main reason to buy it over another interface is if you need the DSP. Using it with other DAW’s the latency is terrible. So if you don’t require the DSP, then I’d go with the RME, which is what I did. I sold my carbon and bought a UFX+. Have not looked back.

    I would love to get the native UAD plugins for my system. I have a UAD-2 card in my computer and many plugins for it but unfortunately I am still running Pro Tools 11 and as such my OS is still Windows 8.1. I can't really upgrade it or I'll have to get a different DAW. Pro Tolls 11 doesn't play well with Windows 10 or 11. My Sweetwater Creation Station computer I bought back in 2016 is still a monster and I see no current need to upgrade it. I have 32GB RAM in it as well. UA requires Windows 11 to be able to get and run the Spark plugins I already own so I won't be able to get them for free since I'm not running a compatible OS.
    Eventually I'm going to have to change DAW's and when I do AVID will NOT be a contender. Like you, I have no use for their business model. I am considering either Studio One or Cubase as a replacement. Then I can upgrade my OS or possibly my computer. I don't know if Windows 11 will even run on my machine. I'll have to check with Sweetwater to find out.

    I won't be upgrading from my UFX+ because of the reason below DC-coupled outputs. I don't need my mastering interface with cv/gate junk on it messing with my headroom or potentially damaging other equipment as they admit themselves.
    "DC-Coupled Outputs - CV/Gate Voltage Control
    Most audio interfaces are traditionally designed with what is called 'AC-coupled outputs', where capacitors are used to filter out any extreme low frequencies.
    Whilst these frequencies are generally considered undesirable for audio - eating into headroom and potentially causing damage to other equipment - one instance where DC-coupling remains desirable is the world of modular synthesizers, where static or slow-moving signals are used for control over various parameters such as pitch note values or LFOs".

      There will always be a review part of it, but here is the difference, all the others are being “Paid” to do the reviews, I refuse to be paid. I will always be honest on my reviews. I don’t do many, amd only products I honestly think are worth of a consideration. I turn down probably 4 times the number I’ll do.
      The difference with me, if I do a review, it’s one that you and others can trust that I’m doing the very best to be objective.

    I know you're very critical of UA but the thing about UA is that in their price range they are the best - hands down. I know you're very opinionated on their conversion - which I do believe the RME makes a very compelling product. However where UA 100% wins me and others over is that the system works - and that's on both Mac & Win. I personally am excited to see what they offer at upcoming NAMM.

      My guess is that it will be identical in features to the UFX+ except without TB and maybe with SteadyClock FS. Also it will probably use ESS converters because AKM is still down for the count. The addition of Dante would launch the price into into the stratosphere (probably another $600) so probably not but who knows.

    UAD is not exactly a master when it comes to interoperability with other devices. It lacks the port capacity required for this, based on open standards such as ADAT, MADI, AVB, Dante).
    For extensions, you'd best keep buying UAD. The story with the plugin prices you have already mentioned.
    Then there are the better devices still only for Apple, that binds you then in addition to another very expensive platform.
    So before you get all the plugins, only to find that the performance of the Sharks is not enough, you could also think about using the services of a mixing and mastering studio, which then work with "real" analog HW. There are only a few native plug-ins available at the moment. The support of UAD should also not be so heady, I once heard. Well, everyone has to think for himself how he is best happy. Everything is not so simple...
