I was just six years old in Hungary, before the 1956 Hungarian Revolution, my father would play this piece by Glenn Miller whenever we wanted to experience true American music. Glenn Miller, an epitome of a genuine American composer and orchestra leader, left an indelible mark on my childhood. As I closed my eyes to prevent tears, these talented young musicians brought back beautiful memories. I loved listening to their sounds, reminiscent of the fantastic Glenn Miller Orchestra.

My father knew Major Glenn Miller personally from his time as an MP while stationed in England in 1944. On several occasions he went with Glenn while they performed at military bases in England. One time they almost had a mid-air collision with a B-17 that ignored landing instructions. Of all the songs that Major Miller played, this one always made my father think of home the most. That being said Olga, I have to agree with you wholeheartedly. Likewise, I am sure that Ray McKinley would agree with you 100 percent. He was a wonderful friend of mine.

Mark, I understand your comment on the fau par by Jim, but he is right! If you are to look at all these kids bands and yes its kids. The main members are female! It’s without question that the girls are the leading light in High School Bands and such like and I for one think it is brilliant and well done Japan to let this happen. I have three daughters and I would be hestatic if it were they playing , but in the UK we are not interested at school to pursue as a school activity, only football football football and we spend millions on it.

    Perfection .
Been looking for sharp , crisp recording of Glenn Miller tunes , the original recordings are great but what i could find sounded muffled like listening with a pillow over your ears and lacked presence .
Others that were played by modern orchestras were great but tended to add their own musical flourishes to the music and that ruined the experience for me .
This was unadulterated perfection and stayed true to Glenn's original arrangements .
Thank you , i will enjoy many hours of listening to your rendition while driving and sitting in traffic . 😎

Besides "unadulterated perfection", it is truly a joy watching and hearing teenage talented musicians, mostly all girls deliver the sound of the high profile adult male only orchestra. Outstanding band, perfect nostalgic sound from a group of a very beautiful youthful ladies and a young man. Worth listening to and watching over and over.

    • @general5104

You couldn't know what's in my mind, but you wrote it just like I feel. The NEW GLENN MILLER BIG BAND does pretty good, but, like you say, they change the special parts when they stand up. That kills it for me and I wrote a comment on their video, that they are honoring perfect music. It ain't broke, so don't fix it! I told them that they were slapping Glenn in the face when they purposely louse it up like that, and I wasn't going to listen to them again!
These young people play Glenn's music better than Tex Benekie's direction of Glen's band, after he was lost by friendly fire over the English Channel. These kids have the real SPIRIT !!!
Thank you for your comment. I fully agree with you.

Absolutely. My goodness was that a brilliant cover of one of the most beautiful songs ever recorded. The arrangement was done by Glenn impromptu due to the failure of some of his band members showing up for a show. The sound was unique and people loved it. Glenn had finally found his "sound". His pre-1939 recordings had sounded like any other band of the day.

@@jordanbusby6231 absolutely. It's a well known fact. Glen had no idea that night before he went on that he found his sound.

I became a Miller fan in my teens back in the early 90s (two grandfathers in the war and a few Pearl Harbor Survivor friends helped). This song is and will always be my favorite from the era. The instrumentation and soul of that song is just mesmerizing and transports me back every time I hear it. This performance was very well done.
