The 2nd half of this song is so moving it brought tears to my eyes. The only other music piece that makes me feel a swell of heroism is The Maker's Ruin.
From 1:08-1:24 I tear up every time. That part is so powerful and and elegant at the same time. I get overwhelmed with emotion every time I hear it.. I’m happy to hear such perfection in the flow of music, then at the same time, I’m sad because I know it will end.
I fully expect Nidhogg to go down as one of the best fights in an MMO. Stormblood: Hold my beer. Also want to mention, technically the expansion name "Stormblood" was a hint to this fight. Apparently the original dragon from China, Shenlong, is the god of storms and rain.
Nidhogg was the better fight thematically and had the better ex fight mechanically. Shinryu's easy mode fight was on the harder end for story content but the EX was a disappointment. Music was great tho
Bears reminding, this fight WILL be getting a Minstrel's Ballad, and lest ye forget how much dumb nonsense that added for Thordan. My steel shall be ready
Oh man. I just finished this fight this morning, I was playing DPS (RDM) so my queues were about a half hour each time. First group, I had to spend the majority of the time learning the mechanics, I'm sure that was the same for others in the party, so eventually we ran out of time and had to abandon. By the second group, I was getting the hang of it, while some parts were still kind of hard to get a feel for. This group as well ran out of time. Third group, I was getting a little salty, (not aggravated at anyone mind you) and the group I was with this time around was a mix of people that weren't sure of themselves, and some very friendly players that had been around a bit (Not one of these people were from the same server as me lol). We failed the first few times, and on our last attempt we had about 13 mins left. For some reason I can't fully understand, this run went flawlessly, I'm not sure if anyone died, mechanics were followed, and people were just on point. When the fight ended, I laughed out loud, and a few of us stated in chat that we loved this party. It was amazing, a really rewarding fight!
SenshuRysakami Honestly, a lot of the mechanics in this fight can be figured out on the spot. Whenever I'm tanking and I see that most of the party is new, I just start the fight without any explanation to see how far we go before wiping. That way, I only have to explain mechanics I know people didn't get on attempt number one. Sometimes, there isn't an attempt number two because we just won. Believing in a party of lv70 adventurers who've beaten all MSQ content to that point goes a long way toward expediting things.
THIS!!! This is how you make a boss theme. Good shit SE. Won this battle in the clutch. Had him down to 2%. Party wiped except for 1 samurai which ended up getting the kill. It was epic as hell lol
There was a lot of music in Heavensward, and even more in ARR. I genuinely couldn't see how Masayoshi Soken could match his incredible music in Stormblood. I just didn't see how he could; the music in Heavensward in particular was so good. I learned a lesson: I should never, ever have doubted Soken. EDIT TO ADD: The fully orchestrated musical call backs to Azys Lla make me freaking GIDDY.
Tom Norman god was it bugging me for about a half hour I couldn't place that was Azys Lla but I knew it was Heavensward. I can't wait for Ballad version.
Kellen McQueen I don't doubt that a large part of why it stuck out to me so much was because Azys Lla was my favorite zone in Heavensward (really anything Allagan associated I love about this game). Otherwise I might not have been able to place it!
i've get a feeling about the second theme was a call back into heavensward if you listen closely at 6:56 , you can heard the ending part of 'Heavensward' itself
Holy mother of all primals... This fight looks sick! And the music! THAT FRIGGIN MUSIC!!!! Soken and the rest of the sound team I fucking love you guys!
I can't decide which of Shinryu's theme I like more... This one takes a much more classical approach than most of FFXIV's music, and really tells a story through its song.
Ultima? Was pretty cool. King Thordan? Piss easy on the first go. ...Shinryu? Eazy...ly the deadliest and the best. Visually, gameplay wise, lore wise, shit wise, atmosphere wise, everything wise. Fuck.
Not a single SAM or RDM in this group. That's truly unusual. Also, this song and fight are amazing! Can't wait to try my hand at the EX version when that's a thing.
I've always enjoyed FFXIV MSQs (add Coil to ARR), but Stormbloods is a league above not only FFXIV stories, but all the countless other games I have played (fantasy wise) over my 20 years of gaming. It was well worth the wait.
What a fantastic medley. It starts with Azys Lla's theme, then it moves into Ultima's theme, and then finally Stormblood's theme. Were there any other themes I failed to recognize in this?
Gaius wasn't even a bad guy compared to the other shitheads we had to fight. I'm sure he would be proud of us, seeing how he was desagreeing with Zenos.
Daedelous Gaius Van Baelsar was an interesting "villain" in that he technically wanted the same thing as the Scions; Eorzia free of Eikons. The difference is he felt the strong must protect the weak meaning the Empire must protect Eorzians from themselves and their Eikons.
In FFV you fight Shinryu, who is hiding in a chest containing the Ragnarok sword, which was an esper in FF6. Here, Zenos fuses inside Shinryu. So if Zenos will turn into Ragnarok, it will be Ragnarok inside Shinryu? Zenos = Primal Ragnarok confirmed?
Finally got to do all of these fights blind, since I've never played XIV during release dates and good God--so epic. The *music*, too! I got Nidhogg levels of hyped. Easily my favorite boss theme in the game, currently.
Um... they were under occupation for 20+ years experiencing intermittent torture, enslavement, and genocide by the Empire's hand during those years, and not just insurgents or "rebels" but just ordinary people under the Empire's rule not classified as "citizens" under their rule. Your character and the Scions are literally the sole tipping point for what were actually harshly won "victories" (if they could even called that in certain cases) and taking advantage of a stretched thin Empire forces (in the case of Doma enabling its liberation). I'm not certain where you're getting any of this "it was easy" b.s. as for anyone who paid attention to the narrations, dialogue, and descriptors for what was happening throughout the storyline, nothing was "easy". Maybe it was in your head, but not in the narrative sense for the characters by a long shot.
With Shinryu now out of the picture, makes me question: Will Omega be the final boss of the Interdimensional Rift arc, or will he be the last boss of the first set of "floors"? If Omega is the first final boss of the 8 man raids, the last one is either going to be a FF14 original or they can somehow bring in ExDeath considering the naming of the place.
I imagine that since this all takes place within Omega's domain, that Omega (most likely called Omega Prime) would be the final boss in the Interdimensional Rift raid.
someone asked me what I thought of this fight. I answered "Totally not worth 10 tomestones" I can't wait for Shinryu's Pain or whatever they call it. I'm curious if they keep the name scheme. Ultima's Bane King Thordan's Reign Shinryu's ???
Zenos was a really good villain imo. He needs to be revived somehow. The emperor and the ascians seems kinda stale to be honest. I was so glad when Thordan beat the shit out of Lahabrea.
Yuri Stormeye I have doubts about his death as well, it's possible someone snatched his body away and healed him (my bets on the scientist/doctor). Though, if he comes back he'd be a wild card since his purpose as a villain has ended. He fulfilled his goal in life, had his last great battle so he's at peace. But he still has his weird obsession about the WoL which could have potential.
Healing through this was a good time, if intense because my parties liked playing the stay away from healer while handling all mechanics game. Other than that, it was really fun and actually had me invested in using my faerie gauge as opposed to sitting on a full gauge for minutes at a time.
Also Stormblood is shaping up to be a pretty healing intensive expansion. Tons of fun mechanics for us healers to enjoy, and also tons of fun mechanics for dps to find creative ways to fuck up so we have to clean the mess XD.

As much as I like the use of Leitmotifs and stuff, I am bad at tracking and recognizing them, especially when they are subtle.
Phase 1's theme is ripped straight from the Omega vs Shinryu fight of patch 3.56, making it kind of obvious who the boss is to anyone that was paying attention. As for leitmotifs, Azys Lla's main melody is incorporated into this theme along with many other tracks in Heavensward.
What's part is 2:05 from? I haven't played V in so long it'd be impossible to find out without going and listening to the entire OST. Great theme so far tho.
Motif from the Azys Lla zone theme. Used a few times throughout the Heavensward soundtrack, like in the Thordan (EX?) theme. No clue if it appears in FFV, I've never played it.
This fight felt so epic at the time, but Zenos turning into a primal seemed so left of field pulled out of no where. Confronting Emet Selch in Shadowbringers felt far more natural and organic, which made for a far greater final battle.
You probably missed or forgot about Louisoix becoming Phoenix or Ysayle becoming Shiva and How Zenos is explain you just before the fight how actually he is trying to make it happen in an artificial way, with the Resonant.
Was OT and the fight kept me on my feet. Between having to be alert, hearing Shinryus crys, all the skill sounds of my party plus all that music. It was an andrenaline rush like no other. When the second phase dropped, it felt like my soul left my body. We also had the bad RNG of meteors dropping all over the place lmfao to the point no one knew where to go. Also, when he used his first wave moves? I said to myself "Damn.. I need that coral ring"(FF5 reference :P)
AT THE END OF EVERYTHING, I FIND YOU, MY FRIEND

i honestly thought Rhalgr would have been the final boss with Shinryu in the raid tier.
Yeah, I was expecting Rhalgr to be summoned when things went even more tits up for the Ala Mhigans.
I also was hoping that Shinryu is the final boss of the new raid, as he has always been a superboss.
Well Shinryu is technically Rhalgr. It is what you get when you use Nidhogg's eyes to summon a primal instead good old crystals.

The John Williams influence is strong on this one.
Thats the big question, with this guy out of the picture, who iwll stand as the final boss of the interdimencional rift?
ex dead ?
Gameshunter92 Maybe Enuo will make an appearance?
So can we get Gilgamesh showing up randomly during fights ? That would be amazing.
Chris Clark Oh god I hope so!
I imagine that since this all takes place within Omega's domain, that Omega (most likely called Omega Prime) would be the final boss in the Interdimensional Rift raid.
Strangely, the first phase music is already in iTunes by the name "Scale and Steel" under the album Far Edge Of Fate
We first Scale & Steel it in a cutscene at the end of Heavensward so it made it onto that soundtrack instead of the Stormblood one
One of my favorite themes of the expansion so far.
The first track sounds very "Star Wars"-y to me. Fantastic job Soken!
There is a portion that reminds me of Austin Powers/James Bond, I wonder if anyone can figure out which part.

Well it's Shinryu we're talking about. Thordan is nothing compared to one of Final Fantasy's most powerful creatures.
this has nothing to do with previous final fantasy

Thordan normal is laughably easy compared to most normal trials.

Ah, thanks. Didn't have the particular music of that scene in mind (well I watched more for the visuals there XD). Thanks! :D
i like this song but the part i like the most start at 6:30 and end at 7:02.
cant believe i got this done on the first try
What's part is 2:05 from? I haven't played V in so long it'd be impossible to find out without going and listening to the entire OST.
Great theme so far tho.
Motif from the Azys Lla zone theme. Used a few times throughout the Heavensward soundtrack, like in the Thordan (EX?) theme.
No clue if it appears in FFV, I've never played it.
this boss was a pain to beat him.took me 2 hours to beat this guy because of people raging and leaving the duty
Anyone know what the title of this song on the iTunes soundtrack (not Worm’s Tail)? I for the love can not find it through the samples.
Scale and Steel
This whole fight kinda reminded me of Bahamut Lagoon.
6:28 makes you fight harder
RIP to the healer that accidentally ran off.
They are now lost in the Rift forever ;-;
You will not silence the song of Oblivion!! Ah, wrong song xd.
3 people didn't mash buttons.
Soken is a god!
Wait, its Zenos talking, but its Shinryu, is Zenos off stage, controlling Shinryu or has he been absorbed by Shinryu or something?
You're going to have to see for yourself!
Why not see now?
SPOILER
Zenos use a fake Echo power to control and fuse with Shinryu
Nolan Pedoslug Ohh, thank you. Wow, this sure is a lot of revelations Lore wise, such as being able to man make Echo
Fake is not quite accurate.
More like "artificial".
1:52 the theme of a desperate struggle between US and the most fearsome foe we have encontered yet. it fits perfectly
Looks epic if only ques were to hit up
