I’m glad you’re full time now. I didn’t get to talk to you at the Bee Expo but I did get to talk to Cori. She remembered me from last year because I teased her about the videos of her losing her hive tools the year before. Anyway that’s how she remembered me and I told her Karma got me for that because I have 8 hive tools missing😂. Thanks for the videos.
I believe you'll be happy with just doing the OA. It will be more work, but it's definitely easier on the bees. I treat 3 times a year when honey supers are off. So far so good. Thanks for sharing
Congrats on going full time! I missed seeing y'all at the Expo. We were there, but several folks we still missed getting to meet with. Best of luck on this new chapter in your life! 🐝💛
Good to see you back and congratulations. Im with you in OAV. I use it 3x a year and am also using extended release strips with great success. Take care.
I have some of those 7/8" boxes from better bee.. last 200 nuc boxes I had made are 7/8 . I left them rough sawn on the inside very nice boxes.. 3/4" just isn't enough plus it seems to rot faster .. I was never happy with the mite treatments until I started mixing in mechanical treatments with the chemical.. doing drone brood removal was key . Our flows run may thru September into October it's pretty steady one after the other for months. So chemicals really messed up the honey production. I still use them come Aug .. I think they are more effective using less when I do use .. figure 70% of the mites are in the drone anyway.. I think it's key to leave some open drone brood when removing the sealed so I just add medium frame to the deep brood nest they draw it fast as drones.. that gives me two treatments.. I'll ether cut the drone hanging off the medium frame or the drone in the medium frame.. if I remove all the drone brood they just migrate to the worker brood.. I just need a market for the live larva next.. plenty of Asian markets down in Detroit I'll just drive a load down there see if it sells... Id like to just feed it back and I've done that as well.
#justkeepgrindin Appreciate seeing a window into daily workload. We are assembling equipment brought back from the Expo. We should be finished up within the next two weekends! God Bless you guys! ✝
The reason for rotating products is to prevent resistance. Using constant OAV we will get resistance showing up soon, especially with beeks putting the OAV strips in the Hive for continuous selection pressure. We'd best start looking for an OAV replacement sooner rather than later. Nature always finds a way.
I also think slow release Oxalic is gonna build up resistance. Fortunately, OAV comes in large doses 5 days apart. 4 rounds makes it a full dose. 3x per year doesn’t let the mite loads build up above threshold. I don’t think OAV will show resistance anytime soon due to the way it’s applied.
@ I plan to start feeding here is SC next weekend with a heavy syrup. We’ve had the cold weather the past few weeks just as you have but temps will be climbing to staying consistently above 50 during the days. Gotta get ready for those first splits! I think you keep,a similar schedule so the feeding of the 2 to 1 and pollen patty will run into the treatments of 3 hits with the OA Vapor. Will you pull the feed when you treat or just leave it on your colonies, treat and keep on keeping on?
Ha Ashby trying to get queens how do I contact you thanks. I am in Virginia it has been a bad winter here and I have to say they looked good going into the winter and under regular winter temps for here they were good but what we have had no I have lost a lot. They were clean I have treated several times 3 n nov 3 in dec and even 1 treatment in jan thanks have a blessed week

Thanks for watching!
Hot dog, it's great to take a break and youtube when you're deep in the middle of box building.😂
Multi day projects!
@Ashby_Farms_NC * I think you proved beekeeping can be year-round work.
Thanks for the update. Be sure to let us know how the OAV works
I’m not doing washes to check back. Just knocking them down every 4 months
Great to see a new video
It’s been nice taking the winter off. Time to get back at it!
Thanks for the video... Should have come to Louisville again...
We were there!
I might need to get with you one day and come down and work bees with you. I am going to check my bees today.
It was good to catch up!
I remember dressing like that when I was building houses.
It’s cold outside!
thanks
Welcome
I looked for you in Louisville but did see you. Sorry I missed you
Sooo many ppl right?
Will you share some info on protocol for administering OA treatments with winter feed or 2 to 1 syrup on the colonies, please?
I don’t know of any. Oxalic Acid is found naturally occurring in honey and other foods.

@@alandtracy2414I’ll be done w OAV by the time I start feeding 2/7ish
I feel you man I need to assemble 100 deep frame today. Not my favorite part of bee keeping.
Frames are definitely a grind!
