Jaw development/growth isn’t as genetic as the dental field suggests. It’s more environmental than anything, that’s why kids who mouth breathe have receding chins and a under developed mandible. If children would be taught proper tongue posture from an early age, that constant tongue pressure would widen the maxilla causing a sufficiently wide palate.

Yes, braces ruined not just my face, but my neck and back also. I am in pain all of the time, and can say that it is ruining my life. I can't get it fixed till I win the lotto and undergo braces again with multiple jaw extending surgeries. Or get braces then veneers or dentures. The teeth/arch positioning misaligned the top portion of my skull, like I'm stuck looking up vs my head positioning prior to braces. The teeth are so veritcal they now tip inward, and I have horrible neck pain, migraines, and OSA. My teeth feel like a wall/wedge that doesn't allow my top portion of my head to rotate downward/level, how it was before braces, because the lower jaw's teeth have been moved back and inward, which positioned the lower jaw permanently down/open. Like my chin is touching my neck if I rotate my head to level position it was before braces. Imagine looking up and opening your mouth wide, and the dentist sticking a wedge/block just inside each of the arches. That is what is happening when they reposition arches that "stick out" and pull them back to make them flat. The space between the vertibrae in my neck is compressed due to the mal-alingment. I now have tmj and scoliosis and degenerative disk disease in my neck. I now experience a myriad of neck, back and shoulder pain issues. I used to be a ballet/jazz/modern dancer and lost range of motion and mobility. My dentist did to 75% of his patients, for the extended treatment fees. Get them in the door at "2 yrs" treatment estimate, neglect to mention it will actually be a 5-6 yr treatment, with the remaining 3-4 years charges as monthly extended treatment fees. #gravytrain I would give anything to have the teeth I had prior to braces, and would have gone with a different dentist- no extractions.
