I would like to see a review of a Glashuette SeaQ 1-39-11-13-83-70 . Its a shame so many watch sites use CGI versions of their watches instead of good old fashioned photography / video
Took my mum watch shopping today, she wanted to purchase a watch for my sister's future husband. She's not familiar with horology, so to her "Rolex" was the only brand she understood as luxury. Went into an AD, branded as "Rolex" - my mum asked the price of the Date Just Fluted Bezel. The AD let out a giggle and her colleagues were snickering at my mum. I told my mum, let's leave this store. Took her to JLC, got a Master Control - they treated us with respect and like actual human beings. Not garbage. This is what will be the downfall of Rolex, their AD's act like they own the brand - have no sense of customer relations. Absolute garbage, a watch with just a date complication and they act like it's a Tourbillon. Hype or no hype, Rolex doesn't control their sales-staff since they don't own any boutiques; they do business through these AD's who act like they're immortals put on this earth to demean people. (Sorry I just had to let this out somewhere, never been so frustrated with such an experience)
Some AD'S are arrogant and think everyone knows all about Rolex. Some don't so I think part of their job description is to also educate the customer about the brand. People will remember how they where treated and that can be the start of someone being a loyal customer or not.
Rumour is they’re looking into opening boutiques to replace the awful AD network. Would be a welcome move for sure. I’m glad your mum ended up buying a stunning watch 👍
Lol this happened to me with a Rolex AD in India. My dad likes big gold watches and he asked how much for the yachtmaster II and they laughed. We left that place and bought a Omega seamaster. It's a shame he really liked the yachtmaster II and Omega didn't exactly scratch that itch. But we are done with Rolex
Unpopular opinion: I love the helium valve! Talk about “playful”, it gives it a gadgety look. I like the functionality of the Omega better - micro adjust and jumping hour hand. Add in price and availability and Omega is the winner of the two, which is not to knock Rolex as the reigning king of sporty luxury watch brands! Awesome video as always Adrian!
@@whereRbearsTeeth The 39.5 mm Planet Ocean is actually closer in size to a Submariner and has a quick-set date instead of the jumping hour hand. (It’s also much less bulky than the 43.5mm). To me, it’s a less sleek, more overtly sporty alternative to a Sub-and that’s not a knock against it! I wish in these Versus-type videos, folks would use the 39.5mm instead.
@@davidr2802 I love that one, especially the subtle nod to the Japanese flag using the lollipop seconds hand in red! I have the more boring black on black, but it’s a really versatile sports watch.
I think the Planet Ocean is the best "new" divers watch of the last 20 years. Adrian is right that the Rolex is timeless (not surprising since the design rarely changes) but the Omega also got everything right from the start. I own both a Deepsea and a PO chronograph and if I had to sell both and just have one diver then the Omega featured in this video is the one I'd go for.
agreed... and unpopular opinion but the Rolex bezel and glass styling looks a bit more crude and old fashioned, while somehow both timeless i think the PO will still hold its look for decades to come
Its the best watch full stop at this price range, best movement in the market, best quality, best innovation I could go on. Omega is now at the top of the market, Rolex has been crushed. Rolex has rested far too long on its laurels, its just a brand now. Omega doesn't just offer a far better product, but its far cheaper than anything Rolex can offer in kind. People compare the Submariner with the planet ocean but that's not a fair comparison, if you take the price into account you have to compare the planet ocean chronograph with the submariner and the difference between them is staggering.
@@14kafil please don't do this review, your just falling for the social media hype train around both watches. Do something interesting and original instead, is so much better👍.
Omega managed to design the PO in a way that feels like it was always in its catalog, for several decades (I think the lyre lugs heavily influence that). I personally feel the PO will age just as well as the SD, and the incorporation of some innovative materials (ZrO2, Liquidmetal, SiO2 co-axial balance) makes it even cooler to me.
@@torqueofthedevil8145 The 50 year pedigree argument is what kind of puts me off with Rolex. Without some knowledge and a decent eye, it's very difficult to discern the difference between a modern Rolex and one your Grandpa used to wear. Omega on the other hand is creating modern designs as well as modernizing classic designs as well. Not to mention improving the tech like liquid metal, co-axial movements (which I'd argue are superior to Rolex Movements), and even making superior antimagnetic watches as standard instead of specialties like the Milligauss. I sort of liken it to the Samsung vs Apple argument with phones. Last years iPhone is going to be almost identical to this years' iPhone. Samsung, you're going to find some real innovation that Apple won't be able to copy for years to come. All that said, I have no real problem with Rolex. They do make great watches. I personally find their innovation to be lazy and lacking. And the prices that they charge aren't based on superior quality, just a recognized heritage. And perhaps that's why they don't want to ever improve or innovate. They want people to be reminded of the old legacy rather than upgrade to modern tools. I will say though, Omega has an older pedigree than Rolex does. So if that's what's holding your opinion, I'd not based on facts. Rolex just did better during the quartz watch revolution than other Automatic watches did. But Omega used to be recognized as superior timepiece company over Rolex until then. It will be interesting to see what will happen in the next 50 years or so. Mind you, watches will be made by AI Automation by that time and we'll be chased by terminators who won't care what time it is. ;)
I think you’re unfair in saying that the design of the PO won’t stand the test of time. It’s a design inspired by Omega Seamasters from the 50’s and 60’s. Other than the HE valve it’s a pretty pure design and I believe it will age well. I love Rolex too, but other than resale value nothing about these two watches can justify one being priced 3 times the other, or even two times. Plus, now that the Seadweller has the cyclops nothing much really differentiates it from a Submariner other than the water resistance specs. From that perspective the PO is more unique imho.
Accurate. The PO aesthetic is stellar, and takes the best bits from the olde 1960’s Seamaster 300 and the Seamster 2254, and updates the whole package with the excellent bracelet, coax movement, etc. If Omega don’t mess with it, and especially they can slim it down slightly, it will absolutely look good forever.
Hah hah. If value for money was all that mattered we'd all be wearing Seiko. These things are always subjective but from an iconic design standpoint Rolex smashes Omega at every turn. This is the first time I'm seeing the Planet Ocean and it reminds me of the Seinfeld episode where the woman was beautiful under some lighting but hideous in others. It could just be the videography but I wouldn't fork out thousands for a watch I wasn't sure about. If I could(!) get a Sea-Dweller at retail I think I'd go for it. Yes, it's expensive, but these things last a lifetime and I'm definitely not unsure about it.
Design is a subjective category. Omega has made some great watches over the years and continues to do so. If you have any doubts go to an Omega boutique and take a closer look. Either of the two watches he compares will long outlive any of us. The current Seadweller is a pretty meh watch, with nothing really to distinguish it from your average Submariner. Rolex makes great watches, so does Omega. If they were priced similarly and both equally available then we could have this conversation.
I have a PO now and love it (the only Omega I like though). One of the reasons I got it was so I could be subjective about them because of all the Omega BS that is around. The SD is twice the cost of the PO, not Three times, and it’s better value IMO. Have you worn both? I imagine the PO will be updated soon. My guess is it will look nothing like the current one, and that Adrian will soon be proved to be correct and completely ‘fair’. I agree the Cyclops is a bad addition to the SD, but it looks nothing like a horribly thin Sub! You say ‘unique’ looking, as if it’s somehow positive. A/ It’s not B/ You cannot have it both ways. It will either ‘stand the test of time’ or (as I feel) will shortly be replaced by something completely different (‘unique’?),and ugly.
@@paulbelopolsky7460 If they were, you would buy a Rolex lol 🙄 As it is, the Rolex costs twice as much (availability counts for nothing when it’s on your wrist) and is at least twice as nice. If you prefer the half (less with discount you really should get) price PO, then why don’t you just buy one (do you have one?) and stop bashing Rolex?
It's not publicized much, but the Planet Ocean's design does have history to it. It's a modern, evolved of the Seamaster 300 design from the 1960s. (References 165.024-166.024) These were divers customized and issued by the Royal Navy, which did their jobs so well they set the MoD's standard for a dive watch. The relation is clear in the dial layout (trapezoidal hour markers with cardinal arabics), case style (lyre lugs), and bezel (Coin-style with exaggerated crenellations). Those vintage references were also a iterations of the original ck2913 introduced in 1957. So while it's not a well-known fact, the design has stood the test of time.
@@TurnRiver Yeah, pretty surprising he wouldn’t know or talk about this. Probably also a fault on Omega’s part to not push this fact more in marketing. Same with the white gold decorated dial compared to the more basic decoration of the Seamaster Diver 300.
The statement “getting a Rolex from their ADs is harder that getting an equivalent Omega” is definitely factual. Some of the people that do accomplish this feat, or pay the outrageous premium to get a Rolex, do tend to boast about it. Those are the people that make Rolex unsavory to others that can’t or won’t do anything for a Rolex. In addition, I insure all my Rolex but don’t insure all my Omega watches (because thieves don’t target Omega like they target Rolex).
Do you find it interesting that he is now being sponsored by the jackals responsible for the outrageous secondary market pricing he keeps telling everyone not to pay?
@@tomscott4438 Chronext is just a marketplace. It's not responsible for people charging 100% of retail to get a Rolex. Its the same marktplace where you can get an Omega or Breitling for less than retail. The problem is a) Rolex not producing more watches and b) people being greedy and wanting to earn money without working for it. Nowadays its the same with most hyped things: shoes, tech and also watches. People buy to sell and not to enjoy it for themselves.
Just to note, regarding to the "History"/Length of time of the design, that even though the Planet Ocean model itself is relatively new, the design is essentially a modern reimagination of the Omega Seamaster 300 165.024, which was introduced in 1962
Yes if you look at the original 2201.50 or 2201.51 they look like old watches yet they are only 15 years old, the PO line got shinier and more colourful in later generations.
PO is more interesting to look at and is unmistakeable at a glance, the SD looks like a big sub. Still, in terms of timelessness of design, it's the SD all the way
Planet ocean liquidmetal limited edition. Only 2000 out there, you can still get one for less than the SD and you'll likely never bump into someone else wearing one.
@@Jay-xr3sbHow would you feel if you did bump into someone else wearing one? Why would you care if you had a SD and bumped into someone else wearing one?
@@alfieakaronaldog I've got the standard 2500 PO as well, it was quite popular and distinct in orange. I have bumped into a few over 10 years (not alot). Nothing wrong per say but a little less unique. The sub on the other hand, that i see in london all the time, then there are the fakes, colour variants and occasional sea dweller. They just seems too common and attract the wrong kind of interest, same when a friend found out how much I paid for the liquidmetal PO (preowned, 10 year old), unless you want to flaunt your money.
@@Jay-xr3sb limited to 2,000 because it knows that's as many and more that it could ever sell. But this is Omega and it'll be special right up to the moment it releases the next special edition... Oh, Omega.
@@willemdeleeuw8094 I hate the endless run of special editions but I'm talking about this actual watch. The mix of black lacquer dial, ceramic bezel but in the smaller 2500 case over the new thick 8500 series, red text and the limited run is a bonus. It's a keeper. I prefer is to the sub regardless of the brand and number made, personal preference.
I had the Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean 43.5mm GMT and it was probably the best quality watch I ever owned. However, I later realized that it was too big for my wrists, especially given the case thickness. Now I crave the more wearable 39mm version but struggle to find one that is affordably priced. Highly recommend this line of watches to everyone, amazing quality.
Wanted to buy a PO at my local AD. After trying it on my wrist I can totally understand you. It's a big and heavy hitter. But it's beautiful and extremely well made. So I changed my mind in the store and went for a smaller Seamsaster in 42mm. Fits perfectly and is very comfortable to wear. Omega's quality is insane
I disagree that the SeaDweller has “earned” timeless design…it is barely different from the Submariner case, which actually earned the title. GMT-Master and Yacht-Master may look timeless too, because they are essentially the same watch case piggy-backing off the successful Submariner design. I also think the concept of timeless is unfair when talking about Rolex, when design has so much less to do with popularity than brand value and market retail. Every Rolex vs Rolex poll seems to reflect wins based entirely upon retail price, not functionality or design.
the design of most rolex lines stay the same over the past decades, not only the sub. They are just lazy to change their design. 10+ years ago these sports thing are all unwanted at the AD counter. i believe the white gold datejust is THE timeless design and the icon of rolex, not the sub. rolex agrees with me that they literally use the word "timeless" on the landing page of the datejust
Higher depth rating and an automatic gas valve while maintaining the timeless design. I love omega, but that manual gas valve screams cheapskate design.
I have that exact Planet Ocean, paid £5220 for it. I wear this as my everyday watch and love it. The adjustable strap is really easy to use and the watch in general feels very solid. I made my decision once i put it on and loved the thickness of it. Would definitely own a sea-dweller as well though looks ace.
same! I paid closer to around 2800 pound (im in Aus) for a virtually unworn 2nd hand one and really love it. Even if i had the money for the Rolex i think the PO simply ticks all the boxes for me in a watch, i dont think id bother with an upgrade i like it so much!
Nice video I like both brands but Rolex makes it really hard for everyone to get their watches I’m very cautious when I buy watch and I like to buy it from AD which is available on omega and impossible in Rolex
“Any product is worth what a potential customer is willing to pay” and “The customers perception is the customers reality” - what I have learned in global sales, through 30 years. This also applies here..... so I would go for the PO 😉👍 GREAT video as always 😉👍🇬🇧
For sure! I work at a Harley dealership, and it's the same thing. It's worth what someone is willing to pay. Because nobody NEEDS a seat with zero exterior protection that will fling you down the freeway at 100 miles an hour using 1940's technology, and can't even carry your groceries. But we do it anyway.
Not really. Here is one example. Were tulips, just a couple, worth more than the value of a posh home in the 16th century? I would submit no.. I have qualificatins in marketing, business and psychology. I know how easy it is to manipulate perceptions. A second case, is Mvmt. Are they really worth, over $200. For a sumilar watch that is produced for $10? You are just regurgitating a mantra, without thinking. Rolex, banks on people with that mentality.
@@denisdaly1708 It is indeed possible to change the perception - and by doing that, you may have found a new customer base. But its still only the perception - and not neccesarely the rrality. Rolex are for sure a brand with a good product, and so are a lot of other brands. I personally wouldt purchase a Rolex (well, maybe new 36mm Explorer 😉). But they do a brilliant job with marketing, and that clearly works. So at the ned, maybe we agreed anyway... ? 😉 Im sure that you are aware of the fact, that sales cost, doesnt need to be tied up with the production cost.... Hence the tulips, are worth what ever soneone is willing to pay. Even in a Ponzi scheme....
@@denisdaly1708 Agreed. I think much of the inflated value of the hot Rolex references is based on a false perception of rarity. In reality Rolex are pumping out thousands of these watches every month, and there are always numerous examples offered for sale on the pre-owned market in every corner of the globe. Of course, at the initial point of sale in the ADs there is also ultra-high demand relative to this supply. But, when all is said and done, there are tens (even hundreds?) of thousands of the watches floating around out there in the world! By contrast, Patek might only be making a few hundred of some of their steel references _per year._ (But even that doesn't make them super rare. IMO a watch starts to be truly rare if it is now discontinued, was produced in very low numbers, and if one of them comes up at auctions on average only once every 2 or 3 years.)
@@denisdaly1708 Did you hear that those 2 goobers sold that MVMT company for 100M? I don't know who would pay 200 for a MVMT watch (except that other goober from "Real Men-Real Style") but who would pay 100M for that "company"...? There goes to show you how much I know..but I can spell qualifications correctly.
I have the limited edition PO, with the thinner 2500 movement and liquid metal. That is the grail PO. It is truly gorgeous, and I think a true modern heir of the classic Seamaster 300 design, unlike recent recreations with fauxtina trying to be vintage.
Love them both, actually. I would probably opt for the Omega. It would have been really interesting if the Fifty fathoms and the GO Sea Q 43 were involved in the comparison.
I prefer the SD. But a $9,000 difference is hard to justify. I have both Rolex and Omega watches and think their quality is equal. So how to rationalize $9k?
IF you plan on keeping it for the rest of your life. Divided 9K with the number of years you think you have left. Is it worth it to you then? If yes, then great if no, then great.
@@HoiDongCuu Part of it is that the Rolex suggested retail price is DOUBLE that of the Planet Ocean. The rest is the lunacy of the current Rolex market.
Fantastic watch the Planet Ocean. I also love the seadweller but always think it’s a bit too much, as where the PO is better curved and more versatile imo.
The thing I don't like about this seadweller is that they put the same movement into an unnecessarily large case, that meant that the date was too far in towards the centre. To disguise that they added the cyclops but traditionally seadwellers never had a cyclops and I prefer them without one.
I have this exact model 43.5mm PO 600m with black dial and bezel, I love it I wear it everyday. I changed the bracelet for an Omega black and orange rubber dive strap, mainly so I could put the bracelet away to keep it in new condition but I love the way it looks with the rubber strap and it makes the watch much lighter to wear, I'm in no hurry to change back to the bracelet.
You've actually pointed out my biggest issue with Rolex. The Fifty Fathoms and SeaQ are absolutely a level above both Omega and Rolex, but if you're interested in a Sea-dweller at resale (because it's impossible to find at retail) you're already spending FF/SeaQ money, so why not just get one of those instead?
That Sea-Dweller is awesome but I do appreciate the look of my first gen 42mm Planet Ocean 2500 more now than ever, I love the styling that draws so much from the classic Omega diver's of the late 60's while still being of modern construction, I find it to be slightly more elegant than the newer PO's while being just as capable, I love the classic open 6 and 9 font, it's been a great watch that I will continue to enjoy.
Honestly, the Rolex is mostly purchased and worn by "Desk Divers". Most of the professional dive watches that I see heading out of our local marina on the wrists of instructors are Seiko.
Thats why these are classified as 'luxury divers' - if i needed a reliable watch to dive with, i would go with Seiko or maybe Tudor Pelagos, but im fancy so i bought a Rolex Sub C... and a Seiko, and a Panerai, and a Pelagos.... whoops
What are Omegas mostly worn by then? Lol What’s with this ‘Desk Diving’ (it’s incorrect to frame with speech marks by the way ;)) BS? It’s just a watch so buy what one you like. Only jealous people mention that the wearer never goes diving. A chronograph is way more pointless lol
"You can't walk in a buy a Sea Dweller from an AD"... right now. I did just that in the mid-2000s. For my first Rolex purchase and I walked into an AD in NYC for a Sub or Datejust and walked out with a 16600 b/c I didn't want the cyclops and I received a discount on the Sea Dweller. The sales guy said they never sell Sea Dwellers so they just sit around until someone takes one at 10-15% off retail. Still have it and wear it all the time. I'm sure that time will come again when the market calms down a bit.
Ive owned 3 Omega watches (2 smpc's and one PO 42mm), a subc and an SD43. Since my 2008 2201.50, Omega has completely redesigned that watch and changed its proportions 3 different times. They modulate the watch so often that even the first PO seems dated. The current sub/SD looks has stayed steadfast to its heritage with only subtle modulations over many years. Either way both are amazing watches.
So good to see the sea dweller get some coverage as in my opinion the watch looks absolutely fantastic. The fact that the watch is 43mm and still sits great on your wrist speaks volumes about its versatility.
I agree on getting rid of the escape valve. It sure would clean up the case. Besides, 99.9% could go without the escapement valve. I have the planet ocean 39mm with the rubber strap. I'm only 5' 5" so the 39 works for me very well. It is extremely accurate.
Great review, Adrian. I personally prefer the Planet Ocean here but believe Omega really need to do something about the thickness of the watch. I feel like a Planet Ocean 39.5mm with a thinner case would be a Sub killer and Sea Dweller killer and an ultimate Seamaster. I sold my PO 42mm and if I replaced it with a new Seamaster, it would be a Seamaster 300 (vintage inspired ones) or an AquaTerra - smaller, thinner than PO.
Both are really nice watches, but I don't really get the demand for professional divers watches unless you're a professional diver. Of the two I'd go for the PO as I prefer the larger face-to-case ratio. Plus I've never been keen on Rolex's Cyclops
Both watches are completely different. Both are very eye pleasing. I own a PO and ordered a Sea Dweller. But if you want to talk quality you have to include Seiko’s high beat SLA divers, IMO.
I have owned two Rolexes (Yacht-Master 16622 and Oyster Perpetual) and two Omegas (Ploprof 1200M and Speedmaster Mark II) and currently own one of each brand. I would choose the Planet Ocean based upon the value proposition and my general sense of Rolex overload. My current dive watch of preference is a Grand Seiko SBGA229 stainless steel spring drive reference which I love for the finishing and horology. At the Sea Dweller prices, I would be inclined to look at the Blancpain Fifty Fathoms over Rolex. If I was starting from scratch on a clean slate basis, I would probably choose between the Omega Seamaster 300M wave dial or look at a Ulysses Nardin dive reference which offers something distinct from both Omega and Rolex. Thank you again for your always thoughtful videos.
I think one of the key aspects that creates the reaction form people is that a negative comment is essentially a criticism on their choice. Whereas a positive comment is validation. Which when you are spending thousands of pounds on a piece of mechanical jewellery matters.
I've owned both of these recently. I have also both watches big brothers. I have sold all 4 of them in the past year or two... tomorrow I am off to the AD to buy the SD43 again, and I think that makes it my top pick among the lot.
The main difference between two is depth. If you don’t dive and or don’t dive below 300m. Then Sub will be the best. Otherwise Sea Dweller will be wasted money. Unless calibre is higher grade.
Planet Ocean all day. Available in two sizes, you can actually get one, and much much cheaper. Only problem is the helium valve. Get the Sea Dweller if you can actually get one at retail price and you might want to resell it later. Both are great watches but I'd much rather the Polaris Mariner Date or SeaQ Panorama Date if money was no option.
I think the Omega Planet Ocean is the true heir to the Seamaster 300. It has so many design elements that carry through. The coin-edge bezel, the design of the dial, and it's a proper tool watch. I love my Seamaster pro, but it isn't a straight tool watch.
I love both brands. I own an Omega Speedmaster, I am on the waitlist for a Submariner. Both Brands are the top of the heap as far as I am concerned. They both have history/pedigree, they both have amazing horology, and they are both iconic.
I totally agree and two of the best watches. I purchased a 16610 Sub from an AD in 2005, then in 2016 I purchased a Speedmaster. The best diver & Chronograph in my opinion. Two months ago I added an AirKing to my collection, bought from an AD at retail after only waiting a couple of weeks. Hope you get your Submariner.
I am on the waitlist for submariner for 2 years but still didn't heard anything from them, even I called them to inquire but they talk rudely with me and they told me that when we got that watch we will let you know, so for waiting 2 years for that Submariner, I finally bought Omega seamaster which has better quality than Rolex and they treat their customers with respect
Love your videos! If I was critical, all your videos seemed to centered around Rolex and Omega most of the time and the same models. Would love to see other brands is well on the channel
The jumping hour adjustment on the Omega 8900 is cool, but it is something that is reportedly less reliable, especially compared to something with a quick-set date. So maintenance is likely going to be more expensive, despite the co-axial escapement.
Another thing to compare is the nearly ENDLESS color, size, and complication options you have with the PO. You want it in blue? Red? GMT? Chrono? Titanium? Omega has it.
...the best restaurants in the world only have 2-3 dishes on their menu. I personally avoid places that offer pizza, thai, kebap, burgers and sushi... Rolex stuck with a unique design language and merely opted to perfect it, no need for variations...!
Nice video! I have the prior version PO in 42mm. I love it. I do think that if Omega got rid of the escape valve and slimmed down the thickness a milliliter or two it would be perfect.
The Sea Dweller Anniversary Red is going to be the next Rolex that skyrockets in price. No question about it! Adrian, can you get your hands on the Daytona Gold with Green dial (John Mayer)?
I bought my Rolex 16710 in the days when you could walk into an AD and ask for one. 2005. But it was never as accurate as I expected, even after a service. Not only that, as I'm getting older, I was worried about being mugged for it. So I sold it to Goldsmiths and bought myself a Planet Ocean, the 002 with the orange bits. Stunned how accurate it is, feels much better made than my Rolex. It's more comfy to wear and in my opinion is much better looking. As a plus I put some money in my savings to boot. Win win if you ask me. 🙂
The Sea Dweller is in a different league to the Omega in terms of “classiness” imo. Both great watches but the Rolex looks far better. Great vid Adrian 👍
Had a 45.5 PO chrono. Found it just to heavy - was always looking to take it off a the end of the day. Purchased an SD43 (at retail) and Im glad I did. Fits perfectly - and I hardly notice it. Much more easy to wear.
I walked past the Rolex AD in Cheltenham at Christmas and there was the 43mm Sea Dweller in the window good to go! Something you’d NEVER see with the Sub or Pepsi. They are hard to get but I’d say not AS hard as other models so don’t be shy and get on that list because you’ll probably get one sooner than you think!
Some people on the internet leave bad comments and put other people down to try to make themselves feel better. 🤷🏻♀️ When it comes to design, 100% Rolex's sports models feel timeless.
I own both. I bought the first Planet Ocean in 2005, cal.2500 45.5mm ref 2200.50.00, the one later seen in Casino Royale. This was my first luxury watch and the start of my collection. Got it from the Omega Boutique at London Heathrow, it was a great first experience. I wore it 7 years straight as my only watch, would swap straps between bracelet, croc and rubber. It was all the watch I needed, then I got bored and craved another watch. It's a solid and good looking piece to me. It's worked absolutely flawlessly in these 16 years. The SD43 came much later. I was lucky enough to get it from one of my local ADs in 2017 in Madrid (Spain) without any purchase history, which would be impossible today as we all know. The SD feels like a bank vault on the wrist. The attention to detail goes beyond the PO2500, but then the retail price was 4 times higher. I'm less a fan of the PO8900 as I find it too shiny but it's still a decent looking diver. I think both are great watches and have their place in a collection. There is one thing I don't like about the latest 8900 caliber: the absence of date quickset. It gets annoying when you wear it on rotation and need to set the date with the hour hand only. That's moving the hour hand 24 times for each day,. I had a coax Speedy 44 with a 9900 and I couldn't stand that useless and inconvenient feature. I quit setting the date after a while. I sold it eventually. Date quickset is far more useful than hour quickset if you wear your watches on rotation.
I’ve got the SD43 and to me there’s no comparison between it and the Planet Ocean. The PO is chunkier and sits high on the wrist. My wrist is flat and 6.5-6.75 inches, and the Sea Dweller fits perfectly. I respect Adrian’s $.02, but the Sea Dweller slides under a cuff, no problem. I had to wait about six months to get mine from an AD with a previous purchase history of an 114060...
Hi Daniel, agree on the above , I have both the Sd43 and the PO 44.5 Orange Bezel, I used to work deep sea earlier and now Offshore so the PO sits nicely in the worksuit.
I tried both on... The PO was so perfect looking and felt so good on my wrest...kind of like a candy that you want to bit (the blue ceramic)... the SD was nice looking too .. felt warmer ... price wise I cannot justify the SD ... to me it is an overinflated market... I am buying a PO for this Christmas and my wife is getting me the SD two tone gold for Valentine ....
Mmmmm sure you said in the Tudor 925 video “what ever you do DON’T pay over retail for this from unscrupulous people on the grey market”, but ok to do that from a sponsor.........
This was only in relation to Tudor because they’ll be available from an AD at retail in short order. Not Rolex.... if people didn’t go grey for Rolex then no one would have them.
@@andrewwright6986 Nope, don’t accept your point at all. I actually don’t care what his position is, he just needs to be consistent. If he’s against grey market dealers marking up so much then fine, just don’t sellout your opinion as soon as one of said dealers gives you a few quid.
@@andrewwright6986 haha, what an odd man you are. Someone gives an opinion/view and you get all protective over it. The point I made, in my opinion, is a very valid one. Shame you don’t have the capacity to understand it. I respect integrity, sadly on this point Adrian didn’t show any.
Hello, I am the happy owner of the Omega Planet Ocean. This is the best comparison I have seen. I bought the Omega watch after I asked about availability of Rolex. The seller laughed at me because I thought the watch would be in stock. It was neither nice nor professional. The next day I was enjoying my new Omega. The watch is great. Thank you very much and regards.
Sports model Rolex are never in stock except for the Sub. You can get a Day-date or Datejust though. If you go Omega or IWC you can probably get a discount off the retail.
I really love these Rolex/Omega comparisons. I always pull for the underdog Omega. This is one comparison that Rolex outright wins. Mainly because of looks.
I absolutely love the Omega PO, but I hate how tall it sits off the wrist. The later model ones are super chunky. For those like me with small wrists, strongly consider the earlier, non-GMT models. They sit at 14mm (much shorter than the later 17-18mm thickness), and are much less bulky.
I consider myself very fortunate to own the 126600, but certainly admire the Seamaster as a fantastic watch in its own right. Would love to see you cover Cartier, perhaps the Drive de or the Tank. It's one of those brands that has its roots in luxury goods, but gets less credit as a watch making company.
I think I'd pick the Omega. I love the way both of them look, but the Seadweller and it's little bother Submariner are both so timeless and iconic that everyone is doing a watch that looks like it. Heck, my Orient Ray 2 is pretty close in looks for under $200. Omega makes great watches, and honestly, the He escape valve gives it a little extra character that helps it stand out. The Seamaster Pro 300m will probably be my first really expensive watch I buy, planning on getting it for myself for my 50th birthday.
Plot-twist: you can still pick up the imho more timeless Mk I PO 42mm with the nice dial & font, non-ceramic bezel + cheaper servicing costs for around 3k. Can't recommend it enough!
I own that exact Planet Ocean model and love it dearly. Not a Rolex hater and would love to own a Sea Dweller as well. My question is, is it really an apples to apples comparison? The price points are so far off, of course the Rolex should be a more refined product. Just because they're the "flagship" divers of the two brands doesn't make them similar. The Aquaracer Professional 300 appears to be Tag's "flagship" diver but wouldn't be in comparable to either of these watches. Wouldn't a better comparison of who's best be done by price point? Perhaps comparing the Sea Dweller to the Glashutte Original SeaQ or the Blancpain 50 Fathoms? Either way, another smashing video Adrian!
Got a PO at 42mm, got that one because it feels more like a summer beach holiday watch than the Rolex. Got a GMT Master for travelling but both the GMT, Sub and SW are getting to flashy to use when swimming, jumping of RHIB etc.
I have the PO with orange numerals and 15 minute bezel section. I absolutely love it. Its accuracy is within two seconds per week. It feels solid, but not intrusive on my 7.5” wrist. I think Omega has delivered a future classic.
I'll go with the Omega. When I was backpacking in Asia many years ago I saw a Rolex Deodorant on a street stall in Cambodia. I just never got over it, and every time I see one, it brings back the memory. When you think of it, the brand name does sound like a roll-on deodorant stick...🤔 I should say the spelling was ROLL-EX.
I totally agree that the Sea Dweller is a better made product, but is it 3x better made? For that price, you can venture into used Lange territory, Moser, JLC and some truly spectacular high horology pieces. I know many people buy and appreciate their Rolex pieces, but to me, Rolex has become a type of watch currency and that's really soured my opinion of the watches themselves.
I love both of these watches. I currently have a different version of the P.O. shown (Partial orange bezel and 12,6,9) and one day I will have a Sea Dweller hopefully. I think the biggest difference is in Rolex's marketing and how they control availability of pieces to their A.D.'s. Both are superb timepieces.
Adrian , what about a Casio that cost 20 pounds and save the money for our kids . Hard time with Corona ..lol . Jokes aside . Love your videos mate , although I prefer glashutte original seaq . Technology from aliens ...lol.
Great video! I own a SD43 and now feel I should also add a Planet Ocean (albeit I will go with the white dial and orange bezel configuration). For a future comparison, it will be interesting to see how a Pelagos compares to these two. If you do a video like this, please make sure the Pelagos has a black dial making the comparison apples to apples (aesthetically). Thanks again, Adrian, for the great content.

Sorry to hear that, that’s disgusting
Lol this happened to me with a Rolex AD in India. My dad likes big gold watches and he asked how much for the yachtmaster II and they laughed. We left that place and bought a Omega seamaster. It's a shame he really liked the yachtmaster II and Omega didn't exactly scratch that itch. But we are done with Rolex
Isn’t it a joke to have an AD laugh at someone buying a watch worth a years rent of the AD’s one bedroom apartment? Rolex marketing - smh
Awesome video as always Adrian!
the helium valve doesn't bother me as much as some others. I just pretend it's a C4 detonator like in Die Another Day =D
@@whereRbearsTeeth That is a GREAT point...which I believe he left out of the video.
Jumping hour is indeed very practical.
I think the Planet Ocean is the best "new" divers watch of the last 20 years. Adrian is right that the Rolex is timeless (not surprising since the design rarely changes) but the Omega also got everything right from the start.
I own both a Deepsea and a PO chronograph and if I had to sell both and just have one diver then the Omega featured in this video is the one I'd go for.
agreed... and unpopular opinion but the Rolex bezel and glass styling looks a bit more crude and old fashioned, while somehow both timeless i think the PO will still hold its look for decades to come
Do you recommend the PO Chrono or non-Chrono?
I would probably go for a blue seamaster... I really think its a beautiful watch - even tho it might not be as special as a lot of other watches!
I’d like to see a hands on review of the Vacheron Constantin Overseas Chrono!

@@14kafil please don't do this review, your just falling for the social media hype train around both watches.

Next duel video: Tank vs Reverso.
I give the victory to the tank mainly because of its history
I personally really like the reverso
JLC for me.
The question for each brand is which model and size to wear as a man with a 17cm wrist.
Reverso. And it's not close
Your feelings aren't facts, however the 50 year pedigree of the SD speaks for itself
A/ It’s not
B/ You cannot have it both ways. It will either ‘stand the test of time’ or (as I feel) will shortly be replaced by something completely different (‘unique’?),and ugly.
@@paulbelopolsky7460 If they were, you would buy a Rolex lol 🙄
As it is, the Rolex costs twice as much (availability counts for nothing when it’s on your wrist) and is at least twice as nice.
Somehow Adrian missed this one when he said the PO wouldnt age well.
@@tomscott4438 Well, true but I think its more for getting watches for review.
Not sure I have ever heard anyone boast about it?
This seems yet another Omega Fanboy Myth.
Saying it’s possible to get a Rolex is not boasting.
There seems to be a lot of Tudor paid promotions lately.
People are selling out left, right and central.

I own a black 43.5, it was my first real watch. I think it’s still the finest diver of them all.
^ Highly underrated comment 😅
Much more substantial. Manly.
the design of most rolex lines stay the same over the past decades, not only the sub. They are just lazy to change their design. 10+ years ago these sports thing are all unwanted at the AD counter. i believe the white gold datejust is THE timeless design and the icon of rolex, not the sub. rolex agrees with me that they literally use the word "timeless" on the landing page of the datejust
@@SillytanN I see "Classic" on the DJ landing page, not timeless, but close enough. Point made, and I don't disagree.

Love them both, actually. I would probably opt for the Omega. It would have been really interesting if the Fifty fathoms and the GO Sea Q 43 were involved in the comparison.

@@HoiDongCuu Part of it is that the Rolex suggested retail price is DOUBLE that of the Planet Ocean. The rest is the lunacy of the current Rolex market.

Love both brands, have both brands. On these exact models, I like the Rolex better. But paying almost 14k for that Rolex is just stupid.
To disguise that they added the cyclops but traditionally seadwellers never had a cyclops and I prefer them without one.
yeh not a fan of it in a modern watch, love it in a vintage one but unnecessary for a daily watch
And now next level up: Fifty Fathoms vs. SeaQ 😍😍
Thats why these are classified as 'luxury divers' - if i needed a reliable watch to dive with, i would go with Seiko or maybe Tudor Pelagos, but im fancy so i bought a Rolex Sub C... and a Seiko, and a Panerai, and a Pelagos.... whoops
The only reason is that Seiko is way more cheaper than Rolex and Omega, so if the watch is damaged, the divers can replace it easily.
I went diving I'd wear a dive computer...
What are Omegas mostly worn by then? Lol
What’s with this ‘Desk Diving’ (it’s incorrect to frame with speech marks by the way ;)) BS?
It’s just a watch so buy what one you like. Only jealous people mention that the wearer never goes diving.
A chronograph is way more pointless lol
Rolex by a mile. Pure class. Timeless design. And it's a Rolex !
I love Omega, but I prefer the design style of Rolex.
Yup. Eventually the hype will die down and everyone will move to the “next” thing.
Good job, Pete!!
I got a sub date in 2015 within a couple of weeks. It would take a couple of decades to get one now. Madness
I love the Omega Planet Ocean, if they could only remove the helium escape valve at 10 o’clock.
It's a hallmark of the watch, looks great in real life. Part of the art of it
And that extra large crown
@@bdegrds I agree 👍 it became a trademark
I agree on getting rid of the escape valve. It sure would clean up the case. Besides, 99.9% could go without the escapement valve.
I have the planet ocean 39mm with the rubber strap. I'm only 5' 5" so the 39 works for me very well. It is extremely accurate.
same for the cyclops, Mercedes hand, and boring case back, crown guard etc....
I am a fan of Rolex and I am a fan of Omega.. i am also a fan of being broke.
And your comment is priceless
The wrist shots are really good
Thank you for it
I think one of the key aspects that creates the reaction form people is that a negative comment is essentially a criticism on their choice. Whereas a positive comment is validation. Which when you are spending thousands of pounds on a piece of mechanical jewellery matters.
Smart comment!
I've owned both of these recently. I have also both watches big brothers. I have sold all 4 of them in the past year or two... tomorrow I am off to the AD to buy the SD43 again, and I think that makes it my top pick among the lot.
The fact that the Submariner and the Sea-Dweller are considered different watch collections is always amazing to me.
The main difference between two is depth. If you don’t dive and or don’t dive below 300m. Then Sub will be the best. Otherwise Sea Dweller will be wasted money. Unless calibre is higher grade.
I chose the PO 3yrs ago and have zero regrets. In addition it slides easily under a cuff. Cheers.
No idea why they persist with a screw in helium valve. Even cheaper brands such as Christopher Ward can manage a flush fitting automatic helium valve.
Great Video mate ! I own a Planet Ocean GMT but ure right there’s something about the timelessness of the sea dweller which is simply brilliant
Thanks Amit 👍🏻
Rolex overcharges
I tried the same planet ocean but with the 39.5 mm size, it’s brilliant
@@Red73370 14.4mm thick with a 19mm between the lugs
Big plus for the PO that you can always choose a titanium version. Both these steel watches are top heavy. The titanium PO is a lot better option!
I think the planet Ocean is an amazing watch for the price, especially compared to its competitors.( and I’m a sub date owner)
I think the Omega Planet Ocean is the true heir to the Seamaster 300. It has so many design elements that carry through. The coin-edge bezel, the design of the dial, and it's a proper tool watch. I love my Seamaster pro, but it isn't a straight tool watch.
after all, you can get the omega with a massive price discount everywhere and without waiting time.
Yup.
That doesn’t make it better though.
Correct. That means that in reality the PO is the overpriced watch.
You will have 2 great classics , I own the speed master and such a classic design but would also love a Rolex sub ( if only it wasn’t for the price )
Totally Agree… Get the 2 . One Day I would buy 1st a Submariner and then a Seamaster…. One Option is not enough….
When you are a fan o Watches….One Option Is not enough, and one Brand is not enough…. You want them all. 🤣
Rolex, looking a better watch, but only my opinion 🤪
Love your videos! If I was critical, all your videos seemed to centered around Rolex and Omega most of the time and the same models. Would love to see other brands is well on the channel
👍 SD 43 over Planet Ocean, cyclops over wort…
Dang, I was hopeful that you were going to prefer the PO over the Sea Dweller...rip
Your reviews are by far my favorite when it comes to making a final decision.
I'd love to see a Glashutte Original Seventies Chrono!!!!
The Sea Dweller Anniversary Red is going to be the next Rolex that skyrockets in price. No question about it!
Adrian, can you get your hands on the Daytona Gold with Green dial (John Mayer)?
Adrian, will you be buying Archie's coffee blend? Love those Breitling Premiers btw.
Pontiff coffee contains ladi boi juice, pus from horns and sweat from Archies orifice.
Don't ever stop talking about Rolex on your channel. Many of us are not tired of it, as you stated. We want more Rolex content.
When it comes to design, 100% Rolex's sports models feel timeless.
Planet Ocean FTW! Hope they move the date window to the 6 o'clock position in the next update.
Rolex is not a luxury watch is just a very expensive watch....
@@adamwhite8258 if you don’t care what his position is then stop watching his videos. He won’t miss you Karen.
I'd like to see the Glassute Original Seventies Chronograph. Adrian, I'll let you choose which color. 😏
I own a PO 8900 Black and orange. It's out of this world. Now planning to get the white dial with orange ceramic bezel
Agree! I own the white dial PO and it's one of the most beautiful dive watches in its price range.
Yeah I have the Orange bezel: white dial combo - its a stunner!
Plot-twist: you can still pick up the imho more timeless Mk I PO 42mm with the nice dial & font, non-ceramic bezel + cheaper servicing costs for around 3k. Can't recommend it enough!
Agree! My PO 2500 is the one and only serious watch I have left after years of owning many different brands 😊👍
And thinner!
Ceramic bezel on the omega is fantastic, I’d say Rolex 10 out of 10 omega 9 out of 10
Yeah that’s how I’d sum these up too. Both are great, but the Rolex wins by a tiny bit.
Oh boy i can't imagine the number of Rolex haters that are disliking your comment right now!
Got a PO at 42mm, got that one because it feels more like a summer beach holiday watch than the Rolex. Got a GMT Master for travelling but both the GMT, Sub and SW are getting to flashy to use when swimming, jumping of RHIB etc.
The single red SD is seriously badass
And here I thought "ROLL EX" was toilet-papering the trees in the yard of a former love interest. Who knew?!
I love the subtle fast pace of the videos. It brings it all together. Keep it up :)
Just bought a two tone Sea Dweller couple of weeks ago. Lovely looking watch but won’t be going near water with it.
I really wish I wasn’t a Rolex fan girl! 😂🤦🏻♀️ but I couldn’t help myself with the Seadweller!
Please review the Grand Seiko SBGM221. As I am considering buying it and would like to know your opinion on this beauty.
This was an unfair fight, sea dweller hands down
I have the white dial PO and it's stunning. I wouldn't mind owning the Sea-Dweller too. Would love to see what is all the fuzz about.
