"Wow, this whole thing is a hot mess" is a very appropriate reaction to that situation. 😆
I'm not even a country fan, and I love Reba.
I wasn't a country fan either . . . that is until i found Reba in college. She is the best!!
Same. She’s country Mary J Blige.
Lifelong fan.
Reba transcends genre.
I'm not a country either but I've always liked Reba.
Same. I am more into 80's music, esp new wave. As well as metal. But Reba is one of my favourites.
The iconic Reba song is "Fancy." You should also watch the video attached to the song. Actually, a lot of her videos are short movie quality.
And to think, they tried to talk her out of recording that song because of the content.
That's a good song too. And I don't like country.
Actually, Reba's two most iconic songs were songs that had already been made Iconic by other artists. Fancy was a big hit (and written by) Bobbie Gentry, and The Night the Lights Went Out In Georgia was a #1 hit for Vicki Lawrence (Yes, Mama from THe Carol Burnett Show and Mama's Family). You should really listen to those versions first.
She really did pioneer the music video concept for country music. Similar to MJ and Madonna in Pop. Turning the song into a visual story.
Reba's song Fancy is also a good one :)
Yes!
I thought Maggie creek road was one of hers that never fully got appreciated
Fancy is chilling, but yes so good
Oh yes ma'am. That song was something else.
Vicki Lawrence, who plays Mama on "Mama's Family", is the original singer. She hit #1 with it. Check it out.
I love the performance of Vicki & Reba together...really haunting.
Wow, didn't know that. Not a big country fan though. I do like Reba though.
I think this was Vicki Lawrence’s only hit. Her claim to fame was being a regular on The Carol Burnett Show. For whatever reason her version is more ominous than Reba’s version. Maybe because Reba’s voice is more melodic.
I never knew that :O
Yeah there's a video for this
The expressions on his face at each twist in the story are priceless. Do Reba's "Fancy" next!
I know-I've been hearing the song for almost 50 years, so I know what's coming. It's great to be reminded that for some, this is a new song and you get to follow their journey through it.
Reacting to Country now? You're in the original storytelling lane.
I just love the "Whoa hold up" look that crosses your face while she's revealing her guilt. Priceless.
Me too!😳😂
Oh yeah, that was priceless!
Tris, you're correct. Country music, 3 chords and the truth. 🤠
This is a great song to begin a dive into country. Country music tells stories. It’s central to the genre.
Funny thing, it's a cover from an old blues song.
Garth Brooks-Friends in low places, The Dance, & Unanswered Prayers
Friends in Low Places LIVE with 3rd verse, also Thunder Rolls Live with extra verse
YES YES YES.
Just requested Friends in Low Places, it was the song that got me into country music! There isn’t anything like the 90s country music!
The dance for sure!!!
Actually anything from 'No fences '
Reba is a definite Queen in the Country genre!!! And she's a great person also....really funny and sweet.
It is a movie
@@margaretherrmann6866 what is the movie called??
The night the lights went out in Georgia
@@margaretherrmann6866 🤣🤣... thank you Margaret..maybe i should have googled that..🤣 i feel a bit stoopid now 🇬🇧💞👍🙈🙈
@@kimmarievan-ever6599 no problem I love talking to new friends lol. Besides I corner the market on dumbness.
"They should make this into a movie!"
They did!!! LOL
FOESHOW
!!!! 😅
Hahahaha yessssss!
What's the name of it?
@@chaboi7same as the song! 🤣
Bobby Gentry's "Ode to Billy Joe" is another good story telling song.
I loved that movie. I was 13 when it came out and had a huge crush on Robby Benson.
That was a true story
Do her live performance please. So pure.
Another good one is Harper Valley PTA
Check out Reba’s “Why Haven’t I Heard From You?” The video is a hoot. What a voice she has, and she’s a real pistol.
You mentioned country! I will start you off with one fantastic country artist. Martina McBride has great videos to go with the songs. Independence Day, Concrete Angel, Anyway, A Broken Wing, In My Daughter’s Eyes. These are just a few of hers to get you started. She has a very powerful voice!! Love your channel!
Yes. To me Martina is like the Celine Dion of Country! Unreal voice. What a powerhouse!
Independence Day, definitely.
Ye to all of those, but another fun son and video by Martina is When God Fearing Women Get The Blues! I laugh every time I hear it!
Yes! Independence Day for sure!
Cast of characters
Narrator/Sister: Killed Andy (and left the tracks “too small for Andy to make”) and the wife, and buried the wife’s body
Brother (protagonist): Went to Andy’s house to kill Andy, but found him already dead
Brother’s wife: Cheated on brother with Seth, Andy and probably the judge (debatable)
Andy: Brother’s best friend, slept with brother’s wife
Seth: Slept with brother’s wife (seems to be a long term relationship behind the brother’s back)
Sheriff: Just lazy, didn’t want to investigate further.
Judge: May just be lazy, or may have slept with the wife. This is a little unclear. Does the judge have “bloodstains” because he convicted an innocent man, or because he too slept brother’s wife? I tend to believe the former.
The judge was sleeping with the wife, if you watch the music video it shows them getting together too.
Even a make believe trial lasts longer than a day. Was her brother hanged in a matter of hours? It's always bothered me that she killed her brother's wife because she(the wife) had dishonored her bro , but was so out of the loop she couldn't get back to town to confess? Or did her brother know and covered for her? Why am I overthinking this? lol
@@jpeopolis ....I agree, it's sketchy. She kills the wife because she dishonored her bro. She's so worried about his honor, but she's going to let him hang for the crimes she committed?
The official music video actually showed the judge messing around with the wife, but you're right - going by lyrics alone it could be either.
@@jpeopolis maybe she was burying the body of the wife when he found Andy. I also believe this was supposed to be about a small town in the early 1900s, where they may have decided to execute someone without a trail, unlikely but shows corruption. The original version is not sang by Reba but Vicki Lawrence and it was written in 1972.
GREAT Song! PLEASE react to Fancy!!!! I used to act it out singing as loud as I could in an overly dramatic fashion when I was in my teens!
Every country song tells a story!
@Luna Raven LMFAO! Oh I put on quite a show trust me!
Even when I hear it now 30 years later my chubby ass STILL belts it out! I just don't Busta move like I used to
@Luna Raven We DEFINITELY need to get together and belt out a few favs! Javoughn can react to THAT!!!
Come to Toronto when the plague is done! xx 💜
@Luna Raven LOL!!! I can only speak for me but that definitely not anybody needs to see! LMFAO. I will stay this, Canada is absolutely beautiful, it really is! Whereabouts are you?
Reba is one of my favorite female singers. I don't listen to country much, but I like every song of Reba's and I also love her show, Reba.
I’m huge fan of country and of you. Reba is one of the best story tellers out there and her list of songs is long and all great that I can’t even begin to tell you what to listen to next. You will enjoy diving deeper into her.
It's just a shame I don't get some lyrics. Her voice is gorgeous
I've never heard this song before. I'm hearing it with you for the first time. All I can say is 'WoW what a voice.
I’m not alone with this request... Martina McBride Independence Day. What. A. Voice!!!👍🏼👌🏼👌🏼👌🏼
The music video is basically a movie! So good!
I grew up listening to these story songs. So nostalgic. Country was so good in the 90’s. Another good one from Reba is “Fancy.”
Yes listen to FANCY next!!! You will love it
Yes Fancy!!!!!
Brilliant song, didnt make alotta sense to me as a kid, but later in life, wiser, profoundly brilliant...along with Fancy by Reba as well. Enjoy. From NC, USA...-Duchess
Hope you'll react to Reba's song 'Does he love you'...such great storytelling in that duet :)
Tim McGraw is fire! 🔥 Great stories!
- Live Like You're Dying
(This song is SO INSPIRATIONAL)
- Don't Take The Girl
- Over & Over" (featuring Nelly)
Please Remember Me.
Tim McGraw was my first live concert. Hearing Live Like You Were Dying live for the first time is what got me hooked on live performances!! I’ve seen him many times since then, but that first time is something I’ll never forget!!
Check out Reba's song "What If" - trust me, you will get goosebumps from the lyrics!
Or, for a duet, "When You See Him, When You See Her"
Reba is great!
Here's some to consider:
"Whiskey Lullaby" by Brad Paisley and Alison Krauss.
"Dirt Road" by Jason Aldeen (not 100% sure on title name)
"Man of Constant Sorrow" by Union Station as well as an acapella version by Home Free
"Landslide" Cover of Fleetwood Mac by the Dixie Chicks
"Goodbye Earl" Dixie Chicks (official video is funny and many actors are in it to support the cause)
This is the info behind this song.. Returning home from a two-week trip to a place called Candletop, a man, identified only as “Brother,” stops for a drink at Webb’s Bar before going home to his wife. While there, he encounters his friend Andy, who informs him that Brother’s wife has had affairs with both Andy and another man, “that Amos boy, Seth.Angry and scared, Brother goes home to find his gun, presuming his wife’s continued absence was because she had left town. Quietly, he makes his way through the woods to Andy’s house. On the way there, he finds a set of footprints leading up to and back from the house, but they look too small to have been made by Andy. Arriving at Andy’s back door, Brother looks through the screen and, to his horror, finds Andy’s dead body.To get the attention of the Georgia State Patrol, Brother fires a shot in the air; the sheriff on patrol mistakenly assumes that the gunshot was the one that killed Andy and arrests Brother for murder. In a show trial, the judge wastes little time declaring Brother guilty of Andy’s murder and then sentencing him to death by hanging, which is carried out in short order. The story wraps up as the narrator, revealing herself as Brother’s younger sister. She confesses that it was she who had left the footprints that her brother had encountered on his way to Andy’s house. And that she had not only shot and killed Andy with her own gun but the adulterous wife as well, in her case disposing of the body in a way that no one would ever find it.In the song’s chorus, Little Sister blames the Georgia criminal justice system for Brother’s death, warning the listener, Don’t trust your soul to no backwoods Southern lawyer, ’cause the judge in the town’s got bloodstains on his hands.”
beach side you narrated this song actually the way it was written.💞
@@janetscott4679 Thanks Janet. It a great song and the story behind it is kinda erie. Actually I lived in a small town in GA and its a feel like no other being from the Northeast. They still fly confederate flags pretty much everywhere and one of the houses I looked at to possibly buy, the realtor showed me a country house and in the shed was all kinds of kkk items that were used at some point and even newspaper articles about lynchings. I decided to build my home.
Beach side, I don't blame you. I would have built my home too.
Thanks for explaining the song.
She started out as a barrel racer in the rodeos, and went on to become a huge success in county! If you want to look into her past listen to the song and also watch the video she did with Cody Johnson called Dear Rodeo!!!!!!
Hi JayeeTV... There is actually a movie titled "The Night The Lights Went Out In Georgia" it was released 5/29/1981 . The video for this song was released in 1991 . This was a great reaction video... you caught on very quick on what was going on in the song . The movie details were not exactly like the song but some details were similar . The movie had a lot of humor in it but the law was crooked . Thank you for this video Jayvee I appreciate your channel .
That movie doesn't match this song, though.
Reba - "Fancy" is another good one.
Not a country fan, but I can still appreciate Reba, Kenny Rogers, Clint Black, and a few others. Btw, Reba is a pretty good actress. You should react to one of the movies she's in...the 1990 cult classic, "Tremors". Awesome movie.
Country songs can have some great narratives. I applaud you for sampling all genres of music, and not just in a way that panders to your audience. I can tell you're actually-listening and dissecting each song.
To fellow subscribers: I need a new pandemic project. How do we get this marvelous young man to 200k in the next month. I've got time, resources, and no life whatsoever: )
Love Reba Mcintyre! 'FANCY' is one of my favorites ❣️
Reba has an amazing voice Jay. You must go down the rabbit hole
Reba is one of my favs! She has SO many great songs!
Reba mcentire has so many great songs she is one of the best to start with in country music. Three of my favorites of hers are fancy, consider me gone, and when you love someone features leeann rimes
BEST REACTION EVER... LOL. This song is an oldie but a goodie!
Reba "Why Haven't I Heard From You?" also listen to Chris Stapleton "Sometimes I Cry"
Reba has a powerful voice.
✨Your in for a goodie here! Classic! And what a story!’!💙👍✌️
“This whole thing is a hot mess.” Indeed!
Reba has been a major country superstar since the 1980s. One of her first hits was Whoever's in New England. She's had so many big big hits. To a country fan all you have to say is Reba and everybody knows who you're talking about. 💘💘💘🎶 🎶 🎶
Omg yess! Reba is amazing!!! Check out Fancy next!
I'm not big into country but Reba, Garth Brooks and Tim Mcgraw will always be in my playlist!!
Country has some of the best stories. Another great story song from Reba is Fancy
Saw Reba in concert: FABULOUS!!
Shes one of those Storyteller artists.. really paints a picture. I dont like country in general but I love me some Reba. "Greatest man i never knew" and "fancy" are other good ones. Garth Brooks is another storyteller artist to check out
She thinks his name was John, what do you say, every other weekend. Yes she has an amazing story telling ability.
This song was originally done by Vicki Lawrence. It was her only hit. Vicki was a comedian and starred alongside Carol Burnett on the Carol Burnett Show. She also played the role of "Mama" on the Carol Burnett spinoff show. "Mama's Family". So to hear her do music was quite out of the ordinary.
If you like songs that tell a story you should react to ......
"Ode To Billy Joe" by Bobbie Gentry
also ......
"Harper Valley PTA" by Jeannie C. Riley
This song always gives me the goosebumps
More Reba!!!
I was a young teen when Vicky Lawrence did this song in the early '70s. Came out about the same time as Bobbie Gentry's Fancy. I love that Reba brought both of them back!
I always got chills at that line, "Little sister don't miss when she aims her gun".
I love how you put it all together like a detective, man! 😅 I'm not a big country music fan anymore, but I grew up listening to it and this song is one of my favorites!
I was brought up on Reba!!! My Grandma, mom and myself used to sing her music together before grandma passed away
I’m not really into country music, especially the new stuff but there are so many great songs and artists and Reba is a legend.
Your reaction as you were realizing what happened was priceless. My favorite reaction so far.
OMG! Your reaction is priceless. Reba has a lot of great videos with her songs. You should listen and watch more of Reba’s music. Fancy is great and she has a great video with Who’s ever in New England. And Does he love you . 😊😊🇨🇦.
Jay, have you done the original by Vicki Lawrence? She was also part of the cast on The Carol Burnett Show.
And Mama from “Mama’s Family”
@@richardvinsen2385, right. I never watched that show, though.
I was going to comment this. Great Minds? I think so.
I have that LP!
@@beowulf1005, it's the only explanation.
Best reaction EVER! Watching you process all the twists in this story is so FUN!
Best reaction I have seen to this song. Most people don't listen to the words and miss the meaning. Reba is country music royalty. You should do more Reba.
Your joy discovering new music just gives ME so much joy, it's contagious!
She is amazing🥰 her versjon og Wisky lulebay is lovley❤❤❤
***REMAKE*** VICKI LOWRANCE ( one Hit Wonder was a regular on THE CAROL BURNETTE SHOW and had her own show later on called MAMAS FAMILY ) Vicki Lowrance was the first to sing this song, her husband wrote the song and she sang the song originally back around 1973. Reba McIntyre sang the song Just as it was originally.
Country! Diamond Rio! I’ve seen these guys about the same number of times I’ve seen Depeche Mode (more than a few). They were originally the band at Opryland, when it was still a theme park. Great musicians and beautiful harmonies and their videos are a lot of fun. 💜
Diamond Rio - “Bubba Hyde” (featuring Jim J Bullock)
Diamond Rio - “Unbelievable”
Diamond Rio - “Meet in the Middle”
Diamond Rio - “How Your Love Makes Me Feel”
Diamond Rio - “You’re Gone”
Diamond Rio - “It’s All In Your Head” (video features Martin Sheen)
Diamond Rio - “Stuff”
💜💜💜
Oh goodness, I truly enjoyed watching you experience country music. You are truly entertaining in your expressions, and yes country music always tells a story. I love it.
This is why I love country music, great story tellers!! You gotta do Fancy next please! Also Garth Brooks Friends in Low Places the extended version with 3rd verse!
I've liked Reba for years and shes done some great covers one of my favourites is her cover of the Everly Brothers number "Cathys Clown"
Should've watched the video to this. Its like a movie.Fancy is another one thats really good.
Reba McEntire is 1 of my all time favorites. Majority of her songs are storytelling. Fancy, Survivor, is there life out there, why haven't I heard from you, what do you say. Just to name a few of her songs.
I'd like to see your reaction to those songs as well as
Open Pit Mine by George Jones
Oceanfront Property by George Strait
My bff’s family are coal miners from West Virginia. I’m a hood chick from Baltimore, MD... They had me LOVING this song when I was around 10,11yrs old (90’/91’) and I still love it!!! Reba is a DIVA💯💯💯🖤🖤🖤💋
I love country music. Country is always about story telling and reba is one of the best. Please react to George Strait-Ocean front property.
Reba - you must hear
"Fancy" and her live a cappella cover of Patsy Cline's "Sweet Dreams"
Your face when she gets to that “one part” is the best!!!
Another killer "story: in a country song is Kenny Rogers' "Lucille." That song just grabbed me as a child. You probably know "The Gambler" by him already, which is a good song, but Lucille has heart and heartbreak.
I really enjoyed this! I'm ignorant about country music but I'm fast realizing I need to listen to more of it. Chris Stapleton and such. I look forward to your explorations so I can ride your shirt-tails. Onward, J!
Other queens of country... The Judds. Mother and daughter duo. Their most famous song is “Love Can Build a Bridge”. Probably a song all of us need right now. An absolute anthem. (Lyric) “Don’t you think it’s time?” I do. ❤️
Reba is a singer, actress, businesswoman, had her own TV show, and ... and ... and. When she has a video of a song she's recorded, it is like a mini-movie telling the story of the song she's singing, which is why most people think it is a real story as it is so believable. Her video of The night the lights went out in Georgia, Fancy, Does he love you, Is there life out there and others are fantastic.
Originally done by Vicki Lawrence, of Carol Burnett Show, mid 70s. One hit wonder. Reba Rocks! Love this version. Reba is a great country singer.
Just randomly came across this video, so cool you really listened to the lyrics and understood the story being told, other people somehow completely miss it lol. Subbed just for this song!!
She has a ton of great songs.. 90s country was awesome. Fancy is a good song by her too. Good story. Does he love you? Is another one.
I mean, music period in the 90s was awesome! Lol. But, I def miss 90s country music. I somewhere along the way lost my love for country music.
@@Sassyglbeauty I lost it after the 90s but my mom used to listen to it so I still know all the songs from then lol. Don't listen to recent country music.
There was a movie about this, which apparently was a true story.
The Night the Lights Went Out in Georgia is a 1981 American musical drama film starring Kristy McNichol, Dennis Quaid, Mark Hamill and Don Stroud.
The night the lights went out in georgia based on a true story. The murder ballad's story is so engrossing, you feel like the characters are almost real. Once he gets there, he finds Andy dead and gets convicted for his murder.
This was a fantastic video I loved your reactions to the story telling. Tim McGraw - Don't Take The Girl is another good storyteller.
I am not the biggest county music fan, but I do love Reba! This song is one of my favourites. Reba also starred in a show named after her. Also had a small part in the 1994 movie Little Rascals.
The song is a cover song that was performed by Vicki Lawrence, who was an actress who stared on Mama's Family and the Carol Burnett Show.
LOVE this reaction! Your face on that reveal, it was great. Same as others, I'm not a country fan but love Reba. FYI - she sang the hell out of this, but it's a cover. Original by Vicki Lawrence in... '70? '71? I don't remember. Crazy because she's actually a comedian who was on the Carol Burnett show, so it shocked me when my dad told me she sang this song!
Gotta recommend Reba's FANCY for your next country reaction. Amazing song, amazing story, gives me chills just thinking about it!
I love Reba and I've sung this chorus for many years. I think this is the first time I've ever really listened to the verses, though, and was almost just as surprised by the storyline as Jovan was. Wow!
And, I agree with everyone who's saying you should listen to "Fancy". It's another great Reba song!
She's the beat I love Reba love her music and what a voice
The queen of country for the last 40 years!!! Love reba
This a deep song, I just love this song , I was a kid, When it came out and never knew how deep this song was....
Hands Down... BEST reaction I've seen in many months!
This is such a great song! So happy you did a reaction to this one.
Brother Jayvee there was a 70s movie made of this with Dennis Quaid, Kristy McNichols, and guy who played Luke Skywalker in Star Wars original movie. It was called "The night when the lights went out in Georgia" It believe it or not was a true story!!!!
Love Reba!! She has so many great songs for you to react to. Some other amazing country singers to try are Garth Brooks, Brad Paisley, and Toby Keith. Most of their songs are really good. Great song pick and reaction!! 🙂
I absolutely love that you really listen to the words of the songs!
This is a great song. Done originally by Vicki Lawrence from Carole Burnette show, who played Mama from Mamas Family. Your reaction is priceless. Incredible story. This is fron 90s by Reba but it was original in 70s
Also, Vicki Lawrence was a cast member on The Carol Burnett Show. Her character of "Mama" got it's own spinoff sitcom titled " Mama's Family".
I loooove Reba. She can sing happy birthday and I would buy the song! 😂
I’m so happy you understood the story. Too many reaction videos miss so much
Great Reaction.. .You should do country more often.
Much ♥️ and Respect ✌️
