- John Paul Jones is regularly participating in the Festival International Mandolines de Lunel since its creation in 2004 : in 2013, at the 10th Anniversary edition, he has been consecrated Godfather of the festival, joining Mike Marshall (Godfather since 2006) and Hamilton de Holanda (Godfather since 2008).

As a zeppelin fan since a young teen, whenever I hear them, more and more I listen carefully to what JPJ is doing. It’s easy to here Page’s riffs, Bonzo’s Drumming and Plants vocals, but without question he was ‘the glue’ and so important to that lengendary band. And yet his body of work and skills since then are equally amazing. And a humble classy guy as well.
I recently read somewhere that he's working on an opera; and I thought: "Why has he waited so long?" After all, he was conducting a church choir at the age of 14. One of the best all round musicians and arrangers of his generation.
I’ve listened to Zeppelin since the ‘70s, but recently just listened. Amazing base in most of the records, sometimes overpowered by Page, but always there and exquisite! Thanks Jonesy!
This man lives for music, love and friendship. He hopes to talk french better .The only french word he says is perfect . ( I' belgian) Maybe a language is like a song, a kind of music. When Robert speaks in interview, I always find the rythm of his speech so remarquable.

Saw him playing mandolin with Dave Rawlings and Gillian Welch at Georgia Theater in Athens Ga about 6 years ago. One of the best shows I’ve ever seen.
One thing i like about Jonesy, is that he doesn't brag about himself. he's like Jimi Hendrix, musically humble

The Dillards he speaks of are the band which portrayed the Darling Family on the Andy Griffith Show ( plus Denver Pyle ,who wasn't a real band member but was a fine actor). Outstanding musicians. Listen to the song 'Dooley'. One of the most talented bluegrass bands you will ever hear.

Showing up at a bluegrass festival and playing mandolin with Mike Marshall and Chris Thile is probably the most extreme example of jumping in the deep end for a musician that I can think of. And that's why I love bluegrass festivals.
l LOVE you John because you are SO DOWN TO EARTH. I was a electric bass player for about 40 years and had to retire because of scoliosis. you're a GREAT, GREAT, GREAT human being and musician. thank you for your great music.
Keep learning. Thanks for the music of our lives, JPJ. So good to hear from you. In 1984 I packed it up after several years in Hawaii. I went to California and met my wife within a couple weeks. Our times on the road exploring California and beyond, your song "Going to California" keeps ringing in my ears. Still in Cal and still together, still Zeppelin fans.

OMG this just came up in my feed, I vaguely know John's daughter Cindy from my time living in Bristol and my kids went to school with the Hugos and I play mandolin. I'm also admin for Gillian Welch and Dave Rawlings website. I also had a lovely conversation with Mike Marshall when I picked him up to take to Sore Fingers Summer school. I'm also a huge Led Zep fan and my wife is a Steiner teacher. It's all connected.

someone who would tour with them (i don't know who) said one day " he would play with us but could easily run the record company as well". He was just on his way very often, not wild partying like the others and sometimes would turn up at the show without having seen the others. There a part of him that impresses him: he cannot be influenced, he is a strong minded person with a terrific humour that shoots in the middle of the target every time. His music heritage is immense, and the more impressive is the fact that he makes it look so easy. it is very impressive to learn that in 1971 he had only started the mandolin since one year .....And i like these kind of hard working men in the dark doing their best to make the others shine. i would like to meet you mister jones.

i know picking favourites is crass but John Paul was always my fav Zepp member. They've all got their own awesome characteristics but J.P's modesty wins me over every time. He just comes over as being so generous every time, which is head and tails the best human characteristic of them all... Besides sexiness of course! Though he's got that too. Some may say Robert wins there but Roberts just a slut.. lol..

Un homme dont ont ne parle quasiment jamais mais qui surpasse quasiment tout les musiciens de notre époque de par son immense talent d'arrangeur et musicien multi instrumentiste. C'est cela un vrai artiste. Pas besoin de scandale ou de surexposition médiatique. La musique seule suffit pour faire de cet homme un grand HOMME.

I learned how to play listening to him on vinyl, scratching the record to get to a certain part. I credit him in my education on rock n' roll bass. And melodic bass,Ramble on baby!
JPJ is THE ONE-MAN 'Wrecking Crew' for Led Zeppelin. I hope no one here thinks a 'wrecking crew' ruins anything / any song, since I'm referencing the Los Angeles Capitol Records building "Wrecking Crew" - what they called themselves - they were the seasoned professional musicians recording the rhythm tracks for a very large number of recording artists including the Beach Boys, the Association, Glen Campbell, the Sinatra(s) numbers of mo-town recordings among many others. But JPJ was the one-man equivalent for Led Zeppelin. There's always a guy behind the curtain that gets less attention than the front man/men - (and he's the 'swamper,' if you're from Bama's Muscle Shoals.)
