Just bought a 2008 Pilot 4WD a couple weeks ago with 282k on it. Changed fluids and deep cleaned interior so far. Just hit 283k yesterday, runs and drives great, seems to have been taken care of over the years. Hoping to get well over the 300k mark too. Enjoy your videos and all that you've done to your Pilot.
Your pilot has given me so much ideas for my own pilot, I got a 2007 exl with 128k miles. Unfortunately my transmission failed due to my own neglect, after changing the timing belt and water pump I failed to close the spigot all the way causing coolant to slowly drip and in turn over heating the transmission. I’ve since replaced the transmission but the car has been decommissioned since then as it has a bunch of other stuff that needs to be taken care of. A good portion of the stuff you have installed in your pilot I’m looking to do as well 😂 have a whole list of stuff I want to get but hopefully you can keep it alive. I didn’t realize how small your channel was until now.
I have an 06 4wd pilot -190k miles with a big ac line leak. It’s brutal in the summer but great the other three seasons. Currently trying to chase down a knocking noise when turning the steering wheel. Happens when turning the wheel from a stop position like backing out or in a parking space. Looking forward to seeing yours back in full action.
I had an ac line leak on the front line. It was pretty easy to replace. After the refill the AC was crazy cold and finally worked in the rear. Have you check your sway bar links? Do you want to post a video of the sound for us to check out?
@@GotterAdventure I am hesitant to mess with the ac just yet because the power steering cooling line has a very tiny leak that only leaks when its slightly pushed back. Happened when I replaced the radiator. I think the noise might be the sway bar links. I replaced the OEM with Moog when I changed out the front end suspension and wheel bearings . The moog end links seem to leak out grease often. Tried recording but can’t get a good sound bite. Thanks for the tip.
@@danlivingston4902 Any update on your clunking concern? I've heard of an in installed wheel bearing causing that, could also be improper length tie rods from side to side.
300K is quite a few miles. I've had 3 F-150s that all went over that. One, not by much. It was at 312K when I got rid of it. I've been watching your videos as well as John DZ, and No-Lo designs and ended up buying a 2021 Passport this summer. I really want to get rid of the 20 inch wheels and find some kind of running boards/rock slides for it. I'm too old and broken to do any serious off roading, but I'd like to do some overlanding. I have a busy that lives in the West Ashley area of Charleston. We were there a year ago and really enjoyed it.
I have, it seems this year model doesn't have and idle air control valve. It uses the throttle body and a maf sensor. I will try grabbing another maf from the salvage yard to see if there is any change. Interestingly, it was idling rough before my head replacement. Then better immediately after. However it has slowly gotten worse again. I have tried 2 valve adjustments with no change.
Paused at 10:00. There is a transmission fluid temp sensor on that vehicle. And when they go bad, you will develop strange shifting problems. What scan tool are you using that doesn't have a data pid for the trans temp sensor? My 2007 Pilot has been good to me so far. It's got just over 185K miles on it. It does seem to have a small delay going into gear. But it shifts perfectly fine otherwise. Everyone I have asked, says that is normal for the Pilots. It's not what I would consider normal. So I've been doing a spill and fill on the trans fluid with every oil change since I got it.
I did a lot of research and I am pretty confident that the sensor doesn't send temp data that can be read through the obd2 port. The vehicle uses it to trip the trans hot light. You can read the trans temp data on Hondas 2009 and newer.
@@GotterAdventure Yes sir. It was how I was able to diagnose a hard and erratic shifting problem I had early on with this vehicle. A bad trans temp sensor was reading 147 degrees when a laser thermometer said the transmission case temp was less than 30 degrees. That and a bad 2nd gear pressure switch causing the dreaded flashing "D" indicator.
180k and just replaced the transmission. I say swap the transmission and keep it running! As for the subframe threads, run some timeserts. I stripped two myself and run timeserts no problem. Helicoils are probably fine but I wanted the beefier timeserts. For rough idle, consider a smoke machine to check for leaks. I found my brand new pcv valve had a hairline crack and was leaking out the side.
Hey I just recieved a 2007 pilot thats been in my family since about 70k miles. Right now it is at 363k and is still running decently well! Do you suggest any cool aftermarket parts that can make my car look nicer without sacrificing reliability? Thanks
My 2002 has about 130k miles, still runs and drives, but it has some issues with the transmission torque converter, and repairs aren't possible in the country I'm living in (Georgia, Caucasus). The only reason I still trust it is because of the 8 seats and your experience. Im considering purchasing a Subaru Forester instead. Interested to know what your choice would be - Toyota or Subaru )
Is the torque converter stuck open? Mine did that for a while and eventually started working again by itself. I just kept replacing the fluid in regular intervals. Personally I have stayed away from CVT transmissions. I think Subaru, Toyota, and Honda all make some good vehicles. I would focus on consumer reviews to gauge the potential issues you may face with the model of vehicle you choose.
@@GotterAdventure Yes, it tries to lock somewhere around 50 mph, but the pressure isn't enough, and the gear makes a 'drrrr' sound. I tried changing the fluid and filter but haven't touched the solenoids. I found that it's a common issue. Releasing more gas in this range solves the issue.
You got a new vehicle because of a harsh downshift on your Pilot? Most likely you need to service the transmission [FLUID CHANGE] and one of your transmission solenoids is going out.
I keep up on fluid changes (current fluid is fresh) and agree that it could be a solenoid. One of my goals is to join JonDZ in Colorado again. This time I don't want gearing to hold me back. There are many reasons that we made our decision.

have you looked into the idle air control valve for the rough idle at cold ? My experience most of the time when you see that its a iacv failure.

Thanks for the advice! The timeserts might be a good option for sure. I will look into the smoke machine. That could help solve the mystery.
New to lifting hondas i have a ridgeline on 2” lift im having front axle grease leaking😢
If the boot is in good shape it may be as simple as installing a new band.

@@Noypi Make sure you stick with quality axles after a 2" lift. I would recommend OEM or Napa axles.

I have heard more CRVs and Civics make it to 500k or more miles, than I do Pilots. Is V6 in general just not as beefy compared to 4 cylinder Hondas?
The V6 is beefy, they just have more parts. Pushing around more weight comes with more wear and tear
