The Autotelic Self (Original prog rock song)

  • This is a prog rock song from my 2014 album "Brighter Skies". It's quite different from the stuff on the new album, but for me personally, this is my favorite of all the songs I've made throughout the years! So it needed a video, and here it is.
    Lyrics:
    a world full of burdens
    and other sheer distractions
can alter the mind so that
    we're no longer free
    confronted by permanent
    stress and false attractions
    we cannot enjoy our
    lives the full degree
    living in faulty sanity
    in our new world
it's easy to get so bewitched by ads
to be good-looking, wealthy and powerful
we all have the opportunity to be imaginative
but false desires can cloud our mind
    we're becoming
    mindless puppets
    living in a
    cage of burdens
    this attendance
    turning into dependence
it's so hard to keep sane
    living behind lock and chain
    [instrumental]
    we are becoming
    mindless zombies
    living in a
    cage of burdens
    this attendance
    turning into dependence
it's so hard to keep sane
when our lives are spent in vain
    PART 2
    falling down into pieces
when you realize you've removed from
    all the power and motivation
now you see it's nothing but deceit
    and you feel disillusion
how could you have reason to stay here?
will your world be this way forever?
    now it's all off-beat
    do I have to surrender
to this place where nothing has meaning?
only my broken mind protects me
in a life with nothing to believe
    thinking of new solutions
    to achieve my own absolution
can I live in my own new dreamworld?
    should I self-deceive?
    [instrumental]
    PART 4
    feeling totally focused now
    though unable to explain how
being carried on by the flow
staying peaceful inside of its glow
see that nothing else matters now
    all your worries you disallow
living life in its purest form
far removed from the volatile norm
    self-transcendence
    commitment, independence and flow
    an optimal experience
    enhancing your resilience
    reaching the perfect harmony

I have to comment again because I forgot how good this fucking song is.
SON. That melodic idea that's put in at around 3:45 is so fucking good, and then when it kicks in to the full riff at 5:10 (and the riff at 4:10) got DAMN

    • @FreddeGreddeMusic
      @FreddeGreddeMusic  7 лет назад +2

Thank you! :D Yeah I think my favorite is the theme at 4:10. (Variants of it also come in at 2:34, 3:35 and 4:44!)

Been watching your stuff since you came out with the Mega Man 9 Medley and I still come back to your stuff regularly. I bought 13/8 and Brighter Skies the day they were released (even got a cool Vulpix drawing with 13/8 you created as a gift for early buyers). I still listen to those albums all the time to this day, along with your other work. I don't know if you will ever see this, but if you do, I want you to know that I truly appreciate your gift of music. This was an incredibly well made music video to go a long with a great song!

I couldn't help but interpret this as the story of your youtube career. It started off with the best of intentions but your network got in the way of your creativity. So you needed time in distant lands to find once again your passion for music. Maybe I'm reading too deeply into it!

    • @FreddeGreddeMusic
      @FreddeGreddeMusic  7 лет назад +1

Hehe, that's one interpretation! But I wrote the song before I had any network problems! The lyrics are a bit more general than that. :)

I can't help but to think that there is an extremely artistic undertone to the story. Im thinking that in the beginning you're picking up music notes representing love for music and playing for the passion behind it, but then everything turns when you stop collecting music and start collecting money, representing corporations wanting to make a fortune off of an artist and the endgame is the artist struggling to find his passion in music again. Through all of this he is traveling and seeing the world, and in the end he found his passion in music again

My God. I watched your MegaMan 9 and Wind Waker videos nearly when they came out. I hadn't seen what you've been up to, but checking on what you've made, the fact you're below even just 500k subs is a crime of mankind. This is far beyond a majority of the music I've seen these days.

I think one reason might be that I barely posted anything between 2012-2017... And just that I've never posted regularly to begin with. And that a lot of my stuff isn't popular at all, like this one, sadly. :D Thanks though! :)

Yes, actually. :D But it usually goes along the lines of "we're just about to start making a game, would you be up for making the music once we're nearing completion?" and I've said "sure, just get back to me when the time comes!" and then that's all I ever hear from them. :D
