Thanks so much for the video. I've been waiting for info on this product and you've done an excellent job covering all my questions. You really make it easy to buy products like this. Thanks, Van!
This is the best review I have seen yet. The explanation and demonstration using a jacket was phenomenal and definitely sold me on buying one. I have not seen any other reviews with deployments explained and shown with such detail giving the viewer a complete understanding.
You say to ask questions in the comments here, but I've been an avid viewer for about a year now and I've never once been left with a question at the end of these videos. Plenty of information and displaying all of the right things. Can't give props enough but know I've subbed and I leave a like on all your videos.
Just to reiterate what others have said, excellent, well though out review again Bri. I’ve just bought one off the back of it. It’s the response to the static hit that most of the other competitors don’t offer, along with larger coverage that did it for me. Appreciate the effort you put in sir!
The best and most thorough review and example of this Airbag Vest of any moto company even more than Alpinestars themselves. Great job to you and the team.
This is the BEST review EVER on Tech-air !! I saw some and they re not so complete ! i m looking for airbags my 12 years old daughter and myself. hesitating between Smart jacket and this one. Unfortunatly, i can't buy you (from France). But seeing your review, people should go to your profesional shop
Hello. You made me buy this. Thank you. I apreciate the fact that you are honest and you answer to everybody. Greatings from Romania, Europe. P.S. 1.76cm, 90kg, XL vest
Awesome review! But you’ve heard that before! Alpinestars needs to up their promotion of their vest & your video on RUclips. I just started researching airbag vests as I am getting my boys into street riding and if not for digging deeper the impression is that Dainese, Helite, & Klim are the 3 to choose from. I am sold on the Alpinestar, especially after your video! Love to hear your latest thoughts after 2 years.
The Tech Air 5 has proven itself to be a quality product that delivers on the promise of protection. We highly recommend this for street and or track riding. Thank you for watching and for the kind words. - Van
Very nice review indeed! Especially trying it with a non Alpinestar TechAir Compatible jacket, that was SOOO useful. I was willing to buy one next season, and now i got all the informations i needed. Thank you and ride safe.
Great review and thanks for being the test "pilot" for what happens when it deploys with a non-tech air jacket. Also had to lol at "this will definitely get your attention when it deploys" :)
Watching from the UK. Absolutely fantastic review! Much better than anything else out there. Thanks for the awesome content! I'm ordering one of these as soon as they're available to replace my saggy old tethered 2 hour inflation vest! Shame I can't order from you guys, damn that Atlantic Ocean! Stay safe! Dale
STG, all I can say is this is such a comprehensive review that A-Stars should have your video on their website! I have the Tech Air Race vest and haven't had to use it yet, but I'll definitely consider this for street use. Once again, killer video and review, it definitely sets you apart from other online retailers out there, keep it up! :D
You do know u can flash your techair race jacket for street mode. I did since I didn't like the looks of any of the street jackets so went race and flashed it to street
Yeah absolutely Josh Hall, I wasnt sure whether I wanted to spend the money on a AStars street jacket to make it compatible, or go this route and be able to use a street jacket I currently have.
@@jameslamon6947 you mean the race jacket? The street can't be flashed to race but the race can be flashed to street. The nice thing about this jacket and why I kinda wish it had come out 8 months ago is that it is only 600 bucks. My leather jacket that is just techair compatible cost me 550. Then throw another roughly 1300 after tax on the airbag and I'm rolling around with a very heavy and very very warm due to not breathing for shit cause of the airbag style jacket. I love it but it's so fucking sweat inducing and I got a vented version. As soon as the airbag is in, it's super snug and kills a ton of mobility and kills most all airflow but the piece of mind is next to impossible to put a price tag on so I deal with it. If you go track or really that's the only reason I think u might want to not get this thing, if you don't plan on track riding this thing looks hands down better in every way
An excellent video/presentation ! After watching this a couple of times I went out to my local A* dealer this morning and bought one of these Tech-Air5 vests. My Non-compatible textile A* jacket has enough room for the airbag deployment but I'll need to buy another leather jacket though. If you're wondering why I didn't buy from you, it's because I'm in the U.K !! If i was in the U.S you would have got my business. I've just subscribed to your channel so keep the excellent videos coming 👍🏻
Brian, It was about time to get some eyes on that vest. To be able to actually see the real deal instead renders or photos. Thank you for revealing it. I do have a thing with alpinestars products that I never had with its competitors and this product is another example. Yet, alpinestars.com does a very bad job presenting their stuff and the T-Gp Pro v2 is a good example. Moving forward, I appreciate you sharing the actual deploy. Don't recall your competitors doing it. And man, you suddenly sized up to hulk ;) Keep up the good work Stay safe
We put a lot of effort into making this as informative as possible. I felt showing a deployment with and without a jacket was super important. Happy to hear you liked and and thank you for watching! - Van
I own this vest and will not ride without it. AP has just announced the Tech Air 10 which also covers the hips I can’t wait for it’s release I will be purchasing one as well.
I have a Dainese D-Air Smart Jacket (vest) which has been barely used and sitting with the retailer for months waiting for a replacement from Dainese in my XS size (to fit under my Dainese leather jacket). There are plastic holders which house the canisters velcroed to the inside of the jacket, but the velcro patches easily peel off from the plastic that the adhesive backing side sticks to. Even replacement velcro patches from the supplier just does not stick onto the plastic canister holders. I believe these velcro patches don't restrict the operation of the vest, but... coming from a reputable company bragging about the tech and experience in creating the vest, it's disconcerting to know that they have loose fixings inside the jacket as if they were cheap no-name Chinese parts! You'd think with all their tech and experience that these velcro patches - while not necessarily a life saving component - have been attached for a reason and not randomly, but they just peel off! My retailer just got these Alpinestars vest in and suggesting I could try them on instead
The Tech Air 5 is a quality piece just like the Tech Air Race Vest we have been using in our race suits for the last 2 years. We stopped offering Dainese here at STG three years ago for various reasons. Return the Dainese and go with the Tech Air. - Van
Hey Van just wanted to say a huge thank you for this video didn't catch the price point on this but I will definitely be buying 1 from you guys in the very near future
@@sportbiketrackgear Thanks for that info. I have one of those pre-tech air compatible Race Replica (which suppose to be compatible with an tech air system and have all the expansion panels) and holding out to get an tech air system for the track.
Great video Brian, thanks again. Took it like a champ, I'm sure it's like sitting on a airbag waiting on one of your buddies to inflate. Gets your senses on Q for sure.
This year I had my first accident on the street in over a decade of riding, and while I was able to limp away from that one, it's caused me to rethink my gear solutions. While I've determined this is probably the best street solution, some reviews have given me pause. The main gripe I keep hearing is the poor customer service from Alpinestars when it comes to after-sales service/support. Specifically communication and help troubleshooting or replacing defective units. I don't want to bash Alpinestars (Hell, 90% of my gear is A*) But at this level of investment on a system where you'll eventually need to deal with customer service at some point, you'd hope for better. That being said, I have no such concerns with Van and STG. I'd be much more confident buying from you guys considering your knowledge and experience with the system, and the fact that you have a direct line to Alpinestars in the event of a bigger issue.
We have used the Tech Air Race for several seasons and always had quick service when we needed a repack (Max had a few crashes racing in MotoAmerica). Since it was introduced we have sold a lot of Tech Air 5 Vests and have not received much in the way of negative feedback. Odds are anything negative you are seeing is related to the Tech Air 10 (different unit) which has been problematic. - Van
I have two questions: 1. Do I have to remove the shoulder protectors from my jacket as well or only back protector? (My jacket is Revit Mantis) 2. How do you wash it?
1) Leave the shoulder armor in and remove back protection from the jacket. 2) To wash this I would suggest a disinfecting spray and or a hand wash with a mild detergent with a wash cloth and a line dry. - Van
Great video! I bought one recently and find it very comfortable. A nitpick is that the flap closes too easily when on a dress hanger activating the system inadvertently. Otherwise, the design and engineering are amazing. I do have two questions: when the bladder over the shoulder inflates, does it provide some neck protection by limiting the movement of the helmet? Does it have to get serviced when it gets wet after getting caught in the rain? Thanks!!
The vest is designed to be waterproof for the most part. I would try to avoid riding in excessively long down pours that would result in getting the vest soaking wet. To protect the collarbone the vest inflates over the shoulders to prevent the helmet from making contact during a crash. This will limit the range of motion and also protect your neck in a crash. - Van
@@sportbiketrackgear That was my main question as well. Seems like it will pad the helmet from moving around a lot, but won't keep it as limited as say a leatt brace
Hi, this is maybe the best explanation video I found, really thank you for that! One question; with a tech-air compatible jacket, do you still need all that space for the deployment, or because of the stretch panels, the jacket can fit a bit slimmer?
Hey, Van! Awesome video, thank you for everything you do! You have the MOST informative channel for gear! My question: I have a Alpinestars Missile V2 Ignition jacket, size 52 (Euro) large, would it be a safe bet to order a matching size large for this airbag vest? Also, in the event the airbag goes off, will it cause any damage to my jacket? Thank you in advance, keep up the great work, happy holidays!
A deployment will not typically damage the jacket or suit. We have had several on our team now and never seen the garment damaged. As for sizing if you are wearing a 52 Euro I would suggest a size medium. - Van
Just got this vest few days ago . For a start it's feel substantial in your hand but when on your buddy weight is disappearing. If you live in hot climate you will sweat a lot on this vest , I do recommend mesh jacket . Alpinestars do not advice to do any wheeles or any sort of stunt when wearing this vest . What they want you to know is they are not taking any responsibility for what is going to happen when you crash they do not guarantee anything.
We have used the Tech Air Race for several seasons and did not have any issues with the system at all. Thousands of miles of transport with more rides than I can remember. The Tech Air 5 has also proven to be pretty much problem free. - Van
He is correct you don’t notice it going off in a real crash. I crashed in the back country on my drz wearing a different product and at first I couldn’t figure out why I couldn’t flex my arms. Then I noticed the vest had deployed. I usually turn it off in situations where I know I will be falling a good bit at low, speed, like riding in the woods. My question is what about a hot day? Will this make it a little warmer?
For sure this will be a little warmer as compared to not wearing it. End of the day it is another layer. I wear the Tech Air Race under my race suits and do not have an issue with being a little warmer. The Tech Air 5 will vent better than the model I use with my race suit. - Van
Never ever had my dainese D-air jacket or vest loose signal, going across Europe. Never out on the road, hills or city. That said i think this is a better product, but not by much tbh. The great news is we have different companies each with great products = competition! which of course is a win for us consumers!
Thanks for the review! Two questions from my side: is it waterproof? I mean, if the water comes through the jacket above the west, what happens with the electronics and all that stuff? Second: i usually wear a backpack while commuting. Can I wear it if I have this west on? Thanks so much!
While I would not recommend going swimming with this on it is waterproof. As for the back pack it will not have any affect on the protection. You would just need to make sure the straps on the pack would allow for the bag to deploy. - Van
Thanks for the great review. Is there a possibility that the tech air 5 vest deploys without force? I mean without having an accident? The same I would ask the smart jacket from Dainese.
I do not believe this would deploy without being in an accident. We have been using the Tech Air Race Vest for multiple seasons now and have not had any false deployments nor has it failed to deploy when it should. - Van
Questions here for you Van: I have to say, your review of this product is the best I’ve seen! I just ordered the Tuono Jacket but I’m so close to just buying this instead. As it offers more protection it seems. The one thing I don’t understand is why Dainese didn’t include shoulders when designing the airbag system for the Tuono Jacket?? I never owned one of these jackets so I don’t know if it already has good enough protection. Has anyone thought of stacking this with the Dair for double the protect? Probably overkill but just curious if it would work? Other option is to buy the Dainese Super Speed3 jacket and use the Tech Air5 underneath it. -Thanks
I would not recommend wearing two airbags at one time. IMO Alpinestars has the best product on the market at this time. The Tech Air 5 gives you the flexibility to ride with other jackets which is nice for sure. - Van
If your jacket isn’t big enough or doesn’t have the requisite stretch panels (down the sides and on the shoulders), I believe the deployment would rupture the seams or maybe the actual airbag. Sort of like “the Hulk” after he transforms. That’s because the gas releases at over 1.2bar and that’s over the burst pressure of most garment seams. I’m very interested in 2 of these, for my wife and I, but right now I’m in a country where nobody wants to ship to. I’ll have to wait until I’m back in Europe :(
I think the jacket would most likely yield before the airbag. If you need to make a purchase and have them shipped we can get that done. Shoot me an email to service@sportbiketrackgear.com and I will get the team on it. - Van
Hi, thanks a lot for your useful review. I'm not sure if it protects enough the cervical spine, what do you think? ixon ix-airbag u03 looks a bit more protective on it.
I would say there is more than enough coverage with the Tech Air 5 Vest. It creates a pillow of air that your helmet will land on in the event of an impact. IMO it is not lacking in any coverage. - Van
I appreciate your product reviews, They have helped in the past to make appropriate and accurate choice, reducing the need for returns and improved satisfaction with products. If possible, could you please provide more information why the vest is not appropriate in a track day environment, if worn under a one piece suit that has adequate room and stretch panels to allow for full deployment of the vest's bladder. I understand that the deployment algorithm is for street environment, but the track environment, is much safer that the street due to the less chance of a sudden deceleration. Thank you! Richard
Great video. One question, as seen in the video, to allow the space for the jacket to take up the extra volume when the vest is activated, would having the jacket zipped to a pants have an effect on this.
great detailed review - I’m Interested what you d recommend. Im a road rider primary who may take his Streetfighter once or twice to track per year. The risk for me is weighted to my road riding. Higher consequence. So the tech air 5 is what I’m thinking. However I have v2 astars track pants and 2 tech air jackets / one textile and one missive ignition leather which are geared up for race version. What would you choose ? I ride in hot weather so this is consideration too. Thanks in advance Van 👍🏻
I would go with the Tech Air 5. There is supposed to be an update coming soon that will allow you to use this on the street and the track with a simple update. IMO the protection on the street is more important as there are more hazards. - Van
I love my smart jacket, I’ven riding through the Ángeles crest hwy in LA. with no problems at all about signal, love it. Both good products hard to choose, but I don’t want to buy new gear because I don’t have enough room to the air bag to deploy and the smart jacket can be worn outside.
I like to ride a lot in cold weather and use heated gear from Harley Davidson. Any reason I should be concerned about a wearing heated jacket over this vest? Thanks.
No reason you can not wear a heated jacket over this. That does not get hot enough to do any damage. I would say the vest is more durable than our skin. - Van
Love the reviews, this one is great. A few questions. 1. For someone that doesn't have an existing tech air for the track, why would this be a bad choice over a conventional back protector on the track? 2. I have heard that a competitor's airbag vest/jacket will not deploy if the rider is on an electric motorcycle as the sensors don't pick up engine vibration during the ride, therefore do not deploy in a crash. Does the Alpine have the same limitations?
1. Per Alpinestars this is not designed to be worn on the track. The issue is the algorithm is designed to work with a street crash. Race track crashes can be very different and there is a chance the airbag's deployment could be affected in some way. (End of the day people do what people do and I bet someone will use this on track) 2. No reason this wont work on an electric bike. The minimum speed is 10mph but it will still deploy in a rear end situation as the acceleration is very abrupt. - Van
Really informative, thanks. So, I just went out and bought the techair 5...in the UK if you shop around you can get one for about £500 (British Pounds). I wonder if you find the charging attachment a bit fiddly and also I wonder how long the magnets will last in the zip...again, I find the bottom clasp a bit fiddly, but that may be due my age. Thanks again, I've been looking for one of these for a while. I find it very comfortable and so light, just not aware that I am wearing it.
We will update that. For the most part it will be the same size jacket you would normally wear. Large Jacket = Large Vest. As with anything there is some gray area. - Van
Great video with live examples of deployment. Thank you. I've bought the vest today. Professionally (IT domain) I'm little bit concerned regarding safety and potential remote controlled deployment or disengagement by an script kiddie.
End of the day I suppose anything can be hacked. That said I would expect a hacker to spend their time on something that would make them some money. - Van
@@sportbiketrackgear that's an excellent argument Van. You are completely right, but you know, first one will do it for prestige, and in case of publishing, others just because they can (and it's easy). Hopefully not anytime soon :-) Btw I've find out, that at this point, I'm able to connect to vest only if it is charging from wall.
Great video! Does it work for “adventure” riding. Fire roads, light dirt riding, standing on pegs? No single track or motocross type riding? Haven’t heard of your company before this video will definitely be looking to order from you guys in the future!
Based on the conversations I have has with Alpinestars I would tell you it will work in that environment. Thanks for watching we are here when you are ready. - Van
Thanks for the great video. Does the alpinestars jacket have enough stretch panels to wear this underneath. I saw on another video in your full suit your suit was very tight. As long as it has stretch panels will it be ok. Also do you know if there are many false deployments. Thanks in advance
I have not heard of a large number of false deployments but have have "heard" of a couple. We have a lot of experience with this product in person and can only confirm one deployment without a crash on track. Every jacket is a little different. If the jacket you want to wear has a large amount of stretch panels it can be a tighter and still worn with the vest. The jacket we show in this video has a little less stretch and needed to fit a little looser to allow or the deployment. This should be a pretty decent visual of what a jacket without a lot of stretch needs to fit like to use the Tech Air 5 Vest. - Van
Thanks for the review. Any experience or heard of the airbag accidentally deploying when riding over potholes or sudden swerving? Also, what is the shelf life of the battery and air canisters ie replace every 3+ years?
You are welcome and thank you for watching. I am not aware of any deployments while going over any potholes and would not expect that to happen. As for the battery I would say as long as it is holding its charge you are good to go. If you want to be sure you can always send it in for an inspection. - Van
Van, do you recommend this over the previous tech air? I have had a tech air race for 2 years and won't ride without it. I switch the software between road and street. last year I picked up a absolute Race suit and its made it a PITA to take it out and stick it in my Gp tech street jacket Looking to get a 2nd bag to avoid having to swap Thanks bud and hope you guys are staying safe
For street riding I would say the Tech Air 5 is the way to go for sure. I can see how is would be a pain to remove the bag from the Absolute Suit to install in a jacket and switch the mode. If you can afford the second bag this is the way to go. It will be a couple of weeks before we see any inventory of the Tech Air 5. We are all good over here at STG and the Van Family. I hope you and yours are good as well. - Van
@@sportbiketrackgear The question is how can people afford not to buy one of these, had a 120mph crash on circuit in my race vest, The doctor who put me back together ask to see info on the vest and said in his medical opinion without it the best I could have hoped for would have been a wheel chair. I ordered a vest and missile suit for my girlfriend before being discharged from hospital, these things really do save lives. Will grab one of these when they hit the shelves. Thanks man
No plans to do that. We have done a couple of post crash reviews to share our experience with it and have another showing how to switch from track to street mode. I feel like we have done a good job covering the Tech Air Race. If you have any specific questions feel free to reach out directly and we will get those answered. service@sportbiketrackgear.com is my email. Also have a Instagram Live on Tech Air today at 3pm EST with Myself, Astars and Josh Herrin. Look for stg_moto on Insta. - Van
Awesome review, many thanks!:) I have few questions though: I own a tech-air jacket, would you recommend to go with tech-air street vest or tech-air 5? Is there any difference in protection? Apparently tech air 5 is more comfortable according to this review. If protection is still better with the older model, than I would rather choose street vest. Unfortunatelly the older model does not have Bluetooth connecticity and the tech air 5 cannot show the status on the sleeve if I am not mistaken? Thanks again!
I would go with the Tech Air 5. End of the day it is the evolution of the Tech Air Street and improved. You are correct, the Tech Air 5 will not show the status on the sleeve of the jacket but will via bluetooth to your phone and with the status led's at the waist line of the vest. - Van
I appreciate the info brother. Maybe I misunderstood you but from what I heard I understand it's not for race/track use but you have your opinion wearing it when you had crash at the track and it inflated? I'm on the fence of buying a Dainese D-air suit or going with A*. I'd appreciate your opinion on the 2 if you have time 🤙
This can be used on the street or the race track. All you have to do is switch the algorithm by using the app and you are good to go. This Tech Air 5 Vest has proven itself both on the street and the track to be a great option. - Van
Excellent video! Thanks for taking the time to educate viewers about what this tech offers in ways of protection. I do have a question though. Can't remember where, but I did see another video about this system and one thing they mentioned is that it can get rather hot wearing it as it supposedly doesn't flow air too well. I suppose if I wear it under a mesh jacket it would be fine but under a leather or textile jacket it could become unbearable here (summer temps average 95-100* with high humidity). Have you tried this out on an actual ride to see just how comfortable it is? Not much worried about fit as that can be tailored by using the size chart but more so comfort as far as heat. Thanks and keep up the great work. Really appreciate all the videos and tutorials you put out!
It is another layer so it will for sure be warmer than the jacket alone. We wear these under our race suits (Tech Air Race version) and can tell you the difference in temp is not too bad once you are moving. The airflow makes a huge difference. - Van
Nice video - I'm 180cm tall, 83kg with a 109cm chest, would you suggest a L or XL? I wear an Alpinestars 54 GP plus leather jacket (perfect comfort fit, can fit a hoodie underneath for tight snug fit). Should I also size up the jacket? A 56 is pretty loose on me
If the jacket has the 4cm of additional space to allow for a deployment there is no need to replace it or size up. I would suggest a size large in the vest. - Van
Thanks for the great review. I have been using a Hit Air tethered vest, but will switch to this one when available. My Dainese leather jacket is snug, but has typical stretch panels, and might work. Do I need to keep the back and shoulder protectors in the jacket once I start using the vest? That would help to free up a fair amount of room.
No I would leave them in the jacket. If you have a crash that does not require the airbag to deploy you may still want that protection in the shoulders. - Van
Hey Brian - Great video! in your opinion what is the best Alpinestars leather jacket match with this product? Also is it fair to say you should go up one size up from your regular size for the leather jacket to accommodate the air bag deployment?
If you go with a Tech Air Compatible leather jacket there is no need to go up a size. Depending on how the jacket fits you the Alpinestars GP Plus R V3 Airflow Leather Jacket or the Alpinestars Atem V3 Leather Jacket may also allow for the vest to be used without going up a size in the jacket. Both of these have massive amounts of stretch panels. - Van
Question: what if my own Jacket is zipped with pants it want be a issue ? Thank in advance for feedback. btw : very good and clear product presentation!
Really great video and review. I just watched the Dainese Smart Jacket but that one did not have any shoulder protection so I like this one here much better. I am 175 cm and weigh about 80 kg. What size should I get? Thanks.
Brian, man first of all a shoutout to you and the team, you guys always provide us with such good information. I am looking for an airbag system now and one question I have is whether this would falsely deploy under serious lean angles on the street say you are draging knee or elbow? Thanks in advance and keep up the good work!
This will deploy as needed for a street crash. There is an update to the algorithm coming that will allow this to be used on the track as well in the spring. - Van
@@sportbiketrackgear Thank you! Really glad to hear that there will be a software update to use it on the track as well. That’s a must have for me then. Greets from Holland and ride safe. 👊🏼 - DM
Great video !!!! I would like to buy one...I ride a lot (long rides) I have a goldwing 2018 ... hope never need it !!!!!!, but extra protection is not a bad decision!!!!How often should it be checked if is not used ????? How last? How many years the manufacture warranty work without used it?
I would send it in for an inspection every 2-3 years if it never goes off just to be on the safe side. To be fair as long as it passes the diagnostic check when you put it in it is ready to go. - Van
Thank you very, very much for this video. I'll be ordering one for me, and one for my bride. One question - I also ride on dirt (I've got the broken collarbone to show for it) could I use this for dirt/trail/woods riding?
You could use this for riding on dirt roads but not on aggressive trails. The algorithm is focused on road riding and may not work well with whoops, jumps, etc... - Van
Awesome review ❤ 1) Can we close the zipper between pants and jacket or is this not advised? 2) Could you charge it with a powerbank (USB only) or do you need to have a power outlet? 3) any update on the release date?
It should not deploy in that situation. The sensors in the vest are looking for something that looks like a crash and I feel like a pot hole is not going to trigger the system. - Van
Hey Van, thanks for your very informative videos, I learn a lot with them. I had please a question to you: I already have a tech air 5 vest and I was thinking about purchasing a neck brace, but than I thought they could maybe not work well together in case the airbag vest deploys because the neck brace is usually ajusted tight to the chest. Would you have any comments or recommendations on that? Thank you very much! Edgar
I would not recommend wearing a neck brace with the Tech Air 5 Vest. IMO this could result in injury if the vest deploys. - Van

Great Review, Quick Question, how great does this airbag protects the neck, others inmobilize the neck and this one i dont see it going so far up, maybe with helmet it could easier to see.
The airbag comes up far enough to prevent the helmet from contacting the collarbone. This limits how far your neck can flex, keeping it within it's range of motion. Also important to note neck injuries are not very common in street or track crashes as they are in off road crashes. - Van

@@sportbiketrackgear great to know, thank you for the quick reply
Hello, nice review. I was just wondering: The motherboard/gas canister unit on the back protrudes quite a lot. Do you think it would lead to discomfort after some time of wearing it? And wouldn't a box like that on the back be affecting the back protection negatively?
No different that having a race hump on a suit or a jacket IMO. I have had several crashes in suits with a hump over the years and never had an issue. - Van

- Van
Brian, I felt like you sat down with me to explain everything - thanks so much! Just ordered one from STG.

Great review and thanks for being the test "pilot" for what happens when it deploys with a non-tech air jacket. Also had to lol at "this will definitely get your attention when it deploys" :)

Appreciate the kind words. We really worked hard to make this video as informative as we could. - Van
If you go track or really that's the only reason I think u might want to not get this thing, if you don't plan on track riding this thing looks hands down better in every way
Finally someone sold it to me🙌🏽 awesome video brother

Thanks a lot for this review. I bought one after have seeing your video. Fantastic product!
Happy to hear it was helpful. - Van
Appreciate the kind words and enjoy the Tech Air 5! Hopefully you never need it to deploy. - Van
Excellent, comprehensive video guys. Gigantic step forward. Looking forward to getting these for my son and I. Live to ride, ride to live!
Brian,
It was about time to get some eyes on that vest.
And man, you suddenly sized up to hulk ;)
Keep up the good work
Stay safe
We put a lot of effort into making this as informative as possible. I felt showing a deployment with and without a jacket was super important. Happy to hear you liked and and thank you for watching! - Van
I own this vest and will not ride without it. AP has just announced the Tech Air 10 which also covers the hips I can’t wait for it’s release I will be purchasing one as well.
We are excited to see the Tech Air 10 and be able to offer it. Max will be racing in the 10 this year and use his Tech Air Race as the back up. - Van
@@sportbiketrackgear Do you have an idea as to when the 10 will be available? Max good luck on this upcoming season.
- Van
Hey Van just wanted to say a huge thank you for this video didn't catch the price point on this but I will definitely be buying 1 from you guys in the very near future

that's an awesome tech air vest. I will get one as soon as they offer one for the track.
The Tech Air Race Vest (current version for the track) will remain current into 2021 as I have been told. - Van
You got that right!
- Van
I have two questions:
1. Do I have to remove the shoulder protectors from my jacket as well or only back protector? (My jacket is Revit Mantis)
2. How do you wash it?
1) Leave the shoulder armor in and remove back protection from the jacket.
2) To wash this I would suggest a disinfecting spray and or a hand wash with a mild detergent with a wash cloth and a line dry. - Van
@@sportbiketrackgear Thanks for your response!
alpinestars wash it for you when it gets serviced.(every two years)
Thanks for scaring the shit out of me with the lightening Brian.
LOL that was Video Caleb. I have very little involvement in the editing.
You do not need the extra space under a tech air compatible garment. Thanks for watching! - Van
Thank you for your great video! It answered all my questions. Greets from germany
You are welcome and thank you for watching! - Van
Do you think it will be a problem on the Autobahn tho, when you are easily going over 170km/h?
- Van
Van you the man! , quality content as always brother
Appreciate that, thanks for watching! - Van
Excellent video well explained top marks.

Thanks for all the in depth videos! how fragile would this system be for standard drops and hits while not wearing it?
- Van
Sportbike Track Gear Thanks.

- Van
awesome review! very helpful. Thank you!

Regarding track use the have implemented a software update which now includes Track use so can use on track as well as road
We have several riders and racers who are using the Tech Air 5 on the track now. It has proven to be as reliable as the Tech Air Race. - Van
Questions here for you Van:
I have to say, your review of this product is the best I’ve seen!
- Van
Great video I am still waiting on mine
Inventory is set to land here early May.
- Van
Thank you van. Really appreciate the videos. Keep up the good work
You are welcome and thank you for watching!
Thank you! Richard
Thanks for the video. I pre ordered one.
Let us know how you like it once you receive it. - Van
Great video. One question, as seen in the video, to allow the space for the jacket to take up the extra volume when the vest is activated, would having the jacket zipped to a pants have an effect on this.
I do not believe it would have a negative impact on the deployment. If anything it would not allow the jacket to pull up as much. - Van
great detailed review - I’m
Interested what you d recommend.
- Van
@@sportbiketrackgear thanks again Van - I appreciate the time you take to respond to these comments. Love your work 👍🏻
Will this work well for a Slingshot in case of ejection. Also, do any work with Neckbraces, or do you not need one with this?
I would not wear the airbag vest along with a seat belt. IMO an airbag deployment while wearing a seatbelt could result in injury. - Van
I love my smart jacket, I’ven riding through the Ángeles crest hwy in LA. with no problems at all about signal, love it. Both good products hard to choose, but I don’t want to buy new gear because I don’t have enough room to the air bag to deploy and the smart jacket can be worn outside.
Thanks for sharing your feedback on the smart jacket. - Van
- Van
Great video - very informative.
Thank you for watching! - Van
Great review, answered so many of my questions. Thank you.
You are welcome and thank you for watching!
(End of the day people do what people do and I bet someone will use this on track)
2. No reason this wont work on an electric bike. The minimum speed is 10mph but it will still deploy in a rear end situation as the acceleration is very abrupt. - Van
Excellent video well explained thank you sir .
Thank you for watching!
We have used our race vests for 2 years now without any issues. I expect this to be the same. - Van
You guys do the best video reviews! I don't see a sizing chart for this though.
We will update that. For the most part it will be the same size jacket you would normally wear. Large Jacket = Large Vest. As with anything there is some gray area. - Van
@@sportbiketrackgear Any idea what a 39.5" chest and 32" waist would be? Sorry haven't bought a jacket yet. Thanks!
Damn airbag technology 👌
Pretty bad ass isn't it!
Hopefully not anytime soon :-)
Btw I've find out, that at this point, I'm able to connect to vest only if it is charging from wall.
Great video man I learned a lot from your channel 🔥🔥🔥

Great review - Thanks!
You are welcome and thanks for watching! - Van
- Van
Well Van the techair 5 now has the Track firmware update!
So now it’s switchable between street and track.
Yeah baby!
We have been waiting for this for a while.
I switch the software between road and street. last year I picked up a absolute Race suit and its made it a PITA to take it out and stick it in my Gp tech street jacket
Looking to get a 2nd bag to avoid having to swap
Thanks bud and hope you guys are staying safe
For street riding I would say the Tech Air 5 is the way to go for sure. I can see how is would be a pain to remove the bag from the Absolute Suit to install in a jacket and switch the mode. If you can afford the second bag this is the way to go. It will be a couple of weeks before we see any inventory of the Tech Air 5. We are all good over here at STG and the Van Family. I hope you and yours are good as well. - Van
@@sportbiketrackgear
The question is how can people afford not to buy one of these, had a 120mph crash on circuit in my race vest, The doctor who put me back together ask to see info on the vest and said in his medical opinion without it the best I could have hoped for would have been a wheel chair. I ordered a vest and missile suit for my girlfriend before being discharged from hospital, these things really do save lives.
Will grab one of these when they hit the shelves.
Thanks man
Excellent video. Do they recommend you take out your current back protection when you wear the vest?
Yes there is no need to wear any additional back protection with the Tech Air 5 Vest. The vest has it's own back protector attached. - Van
Sportbike Track Gear thanks Van!
Does it form a substantial enough neck brace to immobilize your helmet compared to the helite turtle, or the hit-air system?
When deployed it will limit the amount of travel for your helmet in an impact. - Van
Brian, will you be doing an updated video for the Alpinestars air race suit/vest for us? Great video as always!
No plans to do that. We have done a couple of post crash reviews to share our experience with it and have another showing how to switch from track to street mode. Awesome review, many thanks!:)
I have few questions though: I own a tech-air jacket, would you recommend to go with tech-air street vest or tech-air 5?
- Van
Sportbike Track Gear why is it cheaper than the older model?
You need to leave the shoulder armor in the jacket but should remove the back pad. This vest has its own back protector built in. - Van
Can I take the shoulder pads out of my jacket when wearing this?
- Van
@@sportbiketrackgear Great - thank-you!
Question: what if my own Jacket is zipped with pants it want be a issue ?
Thank in advance for feedback.
btw : very good and clear product presentation!
You can use this with a jacket and pants or a race suit as long as you have enough room under the garment to allow for deployment. - Van
Really great video and review. I just watched the Dainese Smart Jacket but that one did not have any shoulder protection so I like this one here much better. I am 175 cm and weigh about 80 kg. What size should I get? Thanks.
No worries, thanks for watching! - I would go with the size large. - Van
👊🏼 - DM
Again, best review video on the RUclips! Could you please confirm if this goes off (inflates) if I wheelie? Thank you
It will not deploy by doing a wheelie. - Van
Excellent Review! Currently, I am using an IXON Airbag Vest with In&Motion Controller. Do you recommend to switch to the Tech-Air 5?
Thanks for watching. To be fair I have not seen the In&Motion airbag so I can not really say if one is better than the other. - Van
- Van
@@sportbiketrackgear Thank you. I appreciate the reply.
Awesome review ❤
1) Can we close the zipper between pants and jacket or is this not advised?
2) Could you charge it with a powerbank (USB only) or do you need to have a power outlet?
3) any update on the release date?
1) Feel free to zip the pants and jacket together.
2) I would use only the supplied charger cord and block.
3) Any day now.
Thanks for watching! - Van
different power source is allowed according the manual. However if your power source (like notebook) cant deliver 2 amps, charing would take longer
@@dizzicz Very good! Thanks, man! 👍
Awesome video, I want one!
Great video bro. What happens if you hit a large pothole ???? Would it deploy?
- Van
