    2 weeks ago i was riding my s1000rr and a pickup with a trailer cut me off in a corner i ended up hitting a rock wall face first, got 4 skull fractures, broken orbital, split my jaw completely in half, broken collar bone, 4 broken ribs, 8 fractured ribs, broken elbow, neck fracture, and a brain bleed in my frontal lobe. Oh, and a hemotoma in my eye that went away pretty quick thankfully. My birthday was 10 days later my awesome wife bought me the tech 10 air bag wish I had before the crash but feel a bit safer when i get back on a bike next year i am worried about space in my race suit though. If you dont have enough room it will probably break ribs

    • @sportbiketrackgear
      @sportbiketrackgear  11 месяцев назад +1

      You need an additional 4cm of room under the suit (or jacket) or the garment needs to be airbag compatible with enough stretch panels to allow for a deployment. Airbags have been on the market for a few seasons now and I have not heard of anyone having their ribs broken during a deployment. - Van

    Great in depth video as always! Can you please do a video that shows you guys putting the airbag system under an actual racing suit, ideally both under an AlpineStart Tech-Air ready one and a third party one. This will be helpful for a lot of people that have other brand suits but want to use the technology. You could even roughly show how much extra space would be needed around the chest (I know that Alpinestar says 4cm for the chest and 2cm for the hips, but seeing it visually would be much much better and there is no such video on youtube that I could find), etc. Also, if you want to go pee, do you need to take off your racing suit and the whole airbag system or is there a zipper or something around the crotch? The former would be pretty time consuming.

    • @sportbiketrackgear
      @sportbiketrackgear  4 месяца назад +1

      We will look at doing a video with a suit over this system. On to the pee... you do not have to take the airbag off, you have full access. - Van

    So Max crashed in Practice.
    that's the end of that Vest for the weekend and next week or two .. How many Spare vests do you take to the track for the weekend? Most of us don't own a Motorcycle gear store.
    I like the idea of the Helix that will fit over anything you are wearing and the fact that it appears to provide more neck protection. Plus install a new canister and you are good to go again in a few minutes.
    I really need a Tech Vest for Cross Country snowmobile racing. I have the impression that the rough jars of normal riding will set the electronic vest off. Same goes for Motocross.

    • @sportbiketrackgear
      @sportbiketrackgear  10 месяцев назад +1

      You can not use any of the sensor driven airbag vest currently on the market for off road riding. Alpinestars is in the process of developing an off road version now. For road racing if you want to be able to repack on your own at the track RST airbag suits are an excellent option. Here is a link to them on our site: www.sportbiketrackgear.com/rst/

    I have a couple questions:
    1. How well will it work with a 2 piece suit or pant/jacket zip together combo? Will the waist on the pants keep the hip area from inflating?
    2. With the longer tailbone protection, how well can you sit on a cruiser with a 2-up seat?
    I know you’re not cruiser folks, but I want to get an airbag system for my 140 mile daily commute. Drivers on the freeway are crazy and distracted, and I want to be as safe as possible while riding. Thanks for the awesome videos.

    • @sportbiketrackgear
      @sportbiketrackgear  2 года назад +2

      As long as your jacket has the additional 4cm and the hip area has an additional 2cm you will be good to go. I do not feel this unit is long enough to be uncomfortable in an upright position so you should be good to go there.
      IMO the Alpinestars Tech Air 5 Vest is the best option for you. Here is a link to that on our site: Alpinestars Tech-Air 5 Airbag System www.sportbiketrackgear.com/alpinestars-tech-air-5-airbag-system/

    Hey, great video!
    I'm looking to get the new Alpinestars GP Tech V4 suit together with the Tech Air 10. Based on the size chart, for the suit I'm looking at a 52 on the suit and an L on the airbag, I'm 5'7 and currently 175 lbs, but still looking to get a little leaner.
    I tried on an older Alpinestars suit (GP Pro V2) in a store in the size 52 and I felt like the fit was amazing (with nothing but an undersuit on and no airbag), my question is though, should I go for a 54 in the new suit to have enough space for the airbag and some extra layers for spring/autumn? Also I would note that I will be wearing the suit and airbag even when going on longer street rides in addition to all the awesome track action, so based on your sizing guide video I don't need a full super tight race fit.
    Thanks for you response and help in advance! :)

    • @sportbiketrackgear

    Pleasing to hear that you can get a full length undergarment to use with it. I like to keep the layers to a minimum especially when it's over 30°C.
    Sadly I won't be able to accompany it with new Alpinestars leathers. Apparently they don't believe slim men exist anymore, my measurements sit smack bang in their size 48 yet the new cut simply is too big. My old one was perhaps a tad small but they've erred even further in the opposite direction. And 46 is not only too short, but even if a suit is made in it (not all are) they're never imported to Aus. Very disappointing.

      @@sportbiketrackgear It's very frustrating. The old sizes (my current suit) are short in the things and back, and I hear they've fixed that. But why did they have to make them so much bigger all round? It's not like guys my size are uncommon in racing - my weight is about the 20th percentile for guys my age. It excludes about a fifth of what you'd think is their target market.

    I've got an RST CE One entry level suit I bought from you guys to get into track riding two years ago. I've been since researching upgrading to an airbag system of some type. I've got two questions for you as I'm trying to determine between the Tech Air 5, Tech Air Race, Tech Air 10, or an over-suit alternative...
    1. If you have a minor crash but your airbag has deployed on the Tech Air 10, is your weekend over since it can't be repacked on-site? Do riders buy a full backup suit? Or do they switch to a spare non-airbag system (like my current CE2 back protector) with no airbag protection for the remainder of the weekend?
    2. In determining if I can wear a Tech Air 5 with my current RST CE One, how would I know if I have 4cm of space for deployment of the airbag? My assumption is that the suit is not compatible with an airbag. However, if it was... I'd prefer to just order the Tech Air 5 now and then upgrade to the Tech Air 10 or race with a completely new suit once I can get in and get properly measured for a much more expensive 1-piece suit than my RST CE One.
    Thanks again for putting out such informative videos. I've got an idea on how much time actually goes into making them, and I love that you guys don't gloss over all the tiny details. Those details are what I want to know! Good luck on getting that first podium and win this year. Cheers.

      Max is 5' 11" 145lbs and wears a 48 Euro in the Alpinestars GP Tech V3 and Racing Absolute. He is able to use the same size suit with either the Tech Air 10 and Tech Air Race. It is a little tighter with the Tech Air 10 and I have had to help push the back protector of the Tech Air 10 down the first few times he tried it on. Max is using the Tech Air 10 and the Tech Air Race for a back up now. If you want to ensure you have more than one deployment the Tech Air Race is the way to go.
      We were hoping to have the RST Airbag Suits here this year but there was some drama with the licensing agreement so they will not be in the US until next year. The only way there would be an issue is if the suit is too tight and there is not enough available space and or stretch panels to handle the additional volume. • @sportbiketrackgear

      More than enough to keep the helmet off the collarbone which is very important. Max has several Tech Air deployments and we are confident in saying the Alpinestars airbag systems are very effective in preventing and or reducing injury. So good in fact that I do not let him out on track without an airbag on. - Van

      I don’t see why you can’t use it for everyday use. Just go into the app and change the settings from race to street. That’s what I plan to do. Also on their site there’s a link to the owners manual.

      Imo the only downside with street riding in this is that going to the toilet can be a bit nervewrecking after some time. But at long as you don‘t mind taking those extra 5 Mins every pee, I don‘t see why you shouldn‘t wear this on the street. It probably has the best protection of all airbags currently available.

    Thanks for the video, can you guys explain sizes a bit? That size chart doesn't say much. both L and XL has the same waist to shoulder length and height. does that mean the system is the same for both but the cloth part is a different size?
    I am size 54 on a old Alpinestar and I recently bought a 56 as the other one is snug fit on me for air bag. 6 feet 2 and 205 pounds. Would you all suggest L or XL?

    • @sportbiketrackgear
      @sportbiketrackgear  2 года назад +1

      I would suggest the X-Large for you. With the Tech Air 10 most riders will be able to order the same size they wear in a t shirt and get a good fit. - Van

      This is not intended to be a neck brace. Neck injury is far more common in off road crashes than street or track. For that reason we have found there is no real need for a neck brace. What this vest does do is prevent the helmet from contacting your collarbone which will typically break it. In the end it limits range of motion for the neck to some degree. - Van

    Having a lot of problems getting my Tech Air 10 setup for the first time. Just unboxed and charged it but I can't get it to connect to the app. The LED lights on the unit are displaying some system fault code. Could be that I have done something wrong in the initial setup. Called STG for support but they didn't really attempt to help me out, instead they sent me to the Alpinestars tech support line. The guy I talked to at STG wasn't up to speed on the Tech Air 10 and he didn't offer to have someone else with product experience call me back. STG talks a big game and I wanted to support you guys but it's a 2 way street. When I need support, I expect yall to answer the phone and help. Definitely disappointed with the experience in the level of service and the product at this point.

      Returning this Tech Air 10 because there is zero support on it from neither dealer nor manufacturer. If you have any intention of using Street Mode on your tech air 10, just skip this product because you'll need to be able to connect to the app to toggle between modes. Take a look at the review for the tech air app on the play store or app store. Fewer than 10% of buyers are able to get this airbag connected to the app. I'm expecting a lot of returns this holiday season because neither the dealers nor Alpinestars knows how to properly configure and support these airbags.

      Anytime there is a technical issue with one of the airbag products from Alpinestars we direct the customer to Alpinestars for assistance. While we have used the Tech Air Race, Tech Air 5 and Tech Air 10 personally we are not a service center and do not have the tools or the training to support technical issues. We had some issues with a unit Max was using and had to send it back to Alpinestars for them to service. After we received it back it has worked without issue.

Do they still have Stretch in the Hip areas so I can use them and the only difference to the Tech Air 10 ready GP Tech V4 Suit is that this one hasnt got the LED Panel itself but the Bag at the arm for the new LED Panel?
