To the Swedes of RUclips, Rest assured that your international viewers an in awe. You have, undoubtedly, one of the best military bands in the world. The standard of drill, intonation and overall sound are impeccable.
They are singing and old soldier song called "Beväringsvisa" or "Conscript Soldier Song". I've tried to translate the text, see below :) It's not always so easy to translate old songs... "Away, out of the way here we come from the Yellow Guard Never embarrassed and never out of temper. Old women step aside the road for us The girls make a curtsy, it is just as it should be. The drummer drums, echo answered flam, flam flam, Sharp soldiers goes the way forwards!"
Beautiful Drill! Seems like British, but more efficient and intense! We can see the strength, the might, of an army by the intensity of its drill. Great!
What you see in this video is the Royal Swedish Army Drum Corp...a cermonial unit that now has been dismanteled. When active most of them were conscripts doing their military service for...I think...15 months. Apart from playing in the band they also had military training but music was obviously their main task.
@Nordost44 Rough translation of "Beväringsvisan" with google translator: "Away, out of the way, here we come conscript boys No embarrassment and no one from the mood Old women get on the other side ditch for us The girls curtsy, it is but as it should be The drummer taps, the echo answers tram ta-re tram tram Brave soldiers going along the road The drummer taps, the echo answers tram ta-re tram tram Brave soldiers going along the road"
Dat chain of comments make my head hurty... were all bloodsbrothers and untill the days off passing i will do whatever it takes to protect my scandinavian brothers in arms if incase that nation is being invaded
Swedish Armed Forces have the most complete drill on the parade field. The reglementary moves seem to be an hybrid mix of British (and Canadian) and French drills. But the style and sharpness is proper to Sweden. If modern-age armies were still fighting like our ancesters did, the swedish one (as seen now) would be the most efficient by it's speed and precision.
@MrJimmyboy1972 "Away, out of the way, here we come conscript boys No embarrassment and no one from the mood Old women get on the other side ditch for us The girls curtsy, it is but as it should be The drummer taps, the echo answers tram ta-re tram tram Brave soldiers going along the road The drummer taps, the echo answers tram ta-re tram tram Brave soldiers going along the road"
After WW2 we joined an alliance and therefore we shape our military to suit that alliance. We need noone for protection. In WW1 we took care of our own borders, even when the country was smaller. You dont see foreign troops/bases or jets/ships patrolling within our borders. Even Greenland we patrol ourself eventhough we have an ally right next to it. Our troops has a lot of respect for being very profesionel and effictive in combat. And our navy has some of the most high tech ships in the world
@Nordost44 . i was a soldier in the british army for 15yrs. and i would guess they are singing, "i wish i was in the canteen having a nice cold beer" maybe not! but! i know soldiers. probably really patriotic. but they still want a beer. and deserve it.
In speed perhaps but in precision, they'd find themself challenged heavily by the danish Life guard, seeing as the swedes spend approx 2 months more learning the same as a royal guardsman, meaning that a danish warfare production would be far quicker than the swedish one. ;)
Which is more than willing to deploy troops, ships or aircraft to any conflict in the world. We have proven that since the 90s now. Operation Bøllebank (Hooligan bashing) was the first encountry in the 90s. Later the Iraq war and now the horn of Africa and Afghanistan where we have the highest troop/population percentage and same goes for casualties. We also often have a warship patrolling the horn of Africa, where HDMS Absalon hold the record of capturing the most pirates.
Nothing nearly as good as the danish royal guard... No wonder you walk so quick! Rather get outta there quick! HAH! . Just kidding.. All the love out to my Swedish grenadier brothers
At the time this was filmed the band was still made up of conscripts, not by regulars. Today it's different, sweden has abandoned the conscript army in favour for at regular one. Unfortenatunatelly.
And what would Sweden have done if our jets didnt intercept them? In this case this was an exercise, but it prove that Sweden deffently cant stand on its own 2 legs. Yes Denmark surrendered to the Germans, I understand why they did it even though I dont approve it. But that was a long time ago. Times are different, the Swedish military which used to be stronger is almost if not already on a level that match the Danish. Denmark can today stand on its own 2 legs, unlike 70 years ago.
Our pride is fine enough, we have had our rough times but are finaly back into a good period. We acted as the "Baltic police" as the 3 Baltic states has no air force. And the Russian bombers where not on their way back home according to our defense, they were just minutes from Swedish air space, but Sweden apperently had no jets ready to intercept. Denmark can take care of itself. In WW2 our government was pacifist thats why we didnt resist much in military.
The danish warfare production would also be more sloppy. We take 1 to 2 months more to perfect what they learn. The danish teach and then say "Do it" and usually it goes to hell.
@stingfan1000 And remember that these folk do exactly the same military training as every other soldier in the Swedish army, in stark contrast to British Army bandsmen and women...
@ananzi1975 The ones you see here actually aren't even really soldiers. The guard you see right in front of the crowd is a soldier of the homeguard. Far from our best soldiers though probably the best homeguard in the world. Our soldiers have even outbested Navy Seals, Rangers and Marines in exercises numerous times. And those weren't our best soldiers either so before giving the Swedish Armed Forces any crap you should check up on the facts.
Usualy you intercept foreign planes before they get into your air space. They meet up just before, if they continue despite warnings, they will get shot down. Yes our government surrendered, our government was pacifist and by surrendering we allowed to keep our entire country for ourself, unlike the Netherlands and Poland who was in the Wehrmacht control and completly bombed. We failed in maintaining neutrality, yes. But times change and Denmark has become an extremly active nation which is...
@ananzi1975 haha, Sweden neutral, you crank me up :P No but seriously, swedish people may claim we are "neutral" but if you just look at nr 1. the weapon technology we first of all sell to ex. the US and nr. 2 all the conflicts in the world were we often have a finger in. I doubt you could call us "neutral" unless you change the meaning of the word :P

Sweden, carved out of granite. Denmark, popped out of clay...
Seeing this gives me goose bumps.
I have many good memories from my time in the royal guards.
I have to admit, they played the instruments well, and the process of changing was fantastic!
They are singing and old soldier song called "Beväringsvisa" or "Conscript Soldier Song". I've tried to translate the text, see below :) It's not always so easy to translate old songs...

Jättebra! Exakt utfört och med kvalitet.
Thanks to Sweden we still can witness the magnificent old-prussian army traditions!
Wow... definately a different type of changing of the guards!
P. Mouchel
Royal British Legion Band Brentwood
Been there, done that, loved it.
Been there, done that too, most booring and freezing useless 12 days of my life. (August and October 2003, mainly night shifts)
I love Sweden...!
Beautiful Drill!
Seems like British, but more efficient and intense!

Great!
Excelent Drill! Swedish are very proud!

Spectacular display!!

They seem more disciplined than the Danish Royal Guard were when I saw them years ago. Great playing and drill!
realy nice :-) I am looking forward to see it next week....
wooww... way better than the Buckingham Palace changing of the gaurd!! (no offence to the UK) :D:D
Sverige e ta mig fan bäst!

That is a shame in some respects, but all in all that makes the video all the more impressive!

I was talking in general though I have to admit that in this case you're absolutely right.
Hellskotta vilket tempo de kör med här! :D
Yay goosesteps :D
Awesome song in the beginning
Great video i love watch videos about Royal guards. Can somebody tell me what they sing in 0:01 - 0:27 ?

I guarded the royal palace for about 1 month :)
We had a crazy turk who trew eggs at us for several days in a row. Memories.
@Nordost44 . i was a soldier in the british army for 15yrs. and i would guess they are singing, "i wish i was in the canteen having a nice cold beer" maybe not! but! i know soldiers. probably really patriotic. but they still want a beer. and deserve it.
Leve monarkin!
@stingfan1000
You were just lucky you didn't see a National Guard band. I don't think you would have been so quick with your lovely compliments §;-)
In speed perhaps but in precision, they'd find themself challenged heavily by the danish Life guard, seeing as the swedes spend approx 2 months more learning the same as a royal guardsman, meaning that a danish warfare production would be far quicker than the swedish one. ;)

It would be funny if this would happen every time I change shifts at work.
@Bullen934 brilliant soldiers. the drummer sounds for the british soldiers also.
@mongolen
Thank you very much for these lyric.
@ananzi1975 Hey.. It's the changing of the royal guards not the giant match to the battle.
Is it the same reason as you lost Halland, Blekinge and Skåne? :)
This SO pwns all U.S marching bands!
The Pickelhaube was one of the things I meant. No idea about the march.
heter den kanske beväringsvisa tillochmed?
What are they singing in the beginig?
That comment made my day :)
very good, but a hate when move the camera.
nothing can shit on music like army corps
Nothing nearly as good as the danish royal guard... No wonder you walk so quick! Rather get outta there quick! HAH! . Just kidding.. All the love out to my Swedish grenadier brothers

I am proud to know that my tax money goes to this and not some kind of shitty-museum.
more efficient and more complete.
jävla gött att lyssna på.
Asså 1000 såna dära, sen 10 jasplan. Fan va muskler man spänner då
är inte det där livgardets grenadjärer?
Vad är den sista för marsch? Sista 40 typ
khedren: det är Bellmans "Undan ur vägen"
You mean guard-changes including parades? It's not that uncommon, in fact :)
Denna sång sjöng vi för fosterland!
I SAW A MIDGET IN THERE!
@EveGallente No, its called the Swedish Army :D
Vad sjunger dom I början?
Tell me how many times did you lose to sweden 80% of the wars
Our pride is fine enough, we have had our rough times but are finaly back into a good period.

Also known as "Undan Ur Vägen".

@ClarkEriksson Okej. My bad.
impressive! O.O

More like the changing of my dance movements
What are they singing at the start?
Darkserpent0572
Darkserpent0572 Its no the "Kungssången" but simply: "Fredmans Epistel nr.46" by C.M. Bellman
***** No not really. I can understand what they're saying.
@stingfan1000
And remember that these folk do exactly the same military training as every other soldier in the Swedish army, in stark contrast to British Army bandsmen and women...
Gud bevare konungen!
respekt!
And I that hoped King caroulus Xl was the teatcher

Sjukt snyggt.
em,? you know that some danish people dont know there own language?
Well, I know her and she would kick your ass any day.
