The portrait of Georgina is beautiful. But the cartoon portrait, they can try and make it sound fabulous but it isn’t

As an artist, I'm totally unimpressed with the modern portrait of Lady Burlington. It's a novelty, way too much time spent on it, looks like something that should be in Las Vegas.

Agreed. I think art should be able to withstand the test of time (and this one won't even survive the test of an electrical outage). I also get mildly put out when something which is interesting or even good, is extraordinarily elevated because of the name of the artist. I was watching an old Antiques Road Show episode the other day and there was a brooch made of one thin piece of wire, probably sterling, with a glass bead. I was thinking well, I could made that right this minute, and it's kind of interesting; turned out to be by a famous female sculptor who rarely made jewelry, and was valued at many thousands. If I made the same thing, which I easily could, I would get about $45 at the market I sell in (though I wouldn't make it, to me it was pretty insubstantial). Good grief, sorry, I guess I needed to vent! Rant over.

I do like Pop Art, here and there. A little goes a long way. ;-) But that?! For a fun piece; well, if you must. But make sure to also get the real deal.

I love the restoration and redecoration done by the Duke, but their choices in artwork are absolutely hideous. Its hard to believe that people brought up with such magnificent surroundings could have so little taste in artwork. The digital painting is not only hideous it looks like something a 3 year old drew.

I guess beauty is in the eye of the beholder. And they have to keep up with the times to ensure the newer and younger generation have just as much to enjoy as the older generations. Otherwise they'll die out.

They could have gotten that digital "painting" done in Las Vegas for $25

Chatsworth House: This digitized painting is revolutionary and we didn’t have the technology 15 years ago to create it.
Me, and every 12 year old in 1996 with Paint on a Microsoft computer: Am I a joke to you??

I have a framed print of this Georgiana Spencer portrait. I purchased it at the Historical Society weekend Sale in Washington DC in Jan.1980.

Couldn’t watch it. Camera work too harsh and fast on the eyes. Please reconsider- because the subject matter is wonderful!

Yes! I made a similar comment on another of their videos. I’m almost wondering if it was a condition of filming? It just makes no sense. You cannot see a bloody thing!

Thanks for he video and discussion. Simply too many quick cuts for me, makes me jumpy by going from one thing to another to another. But that's just me.

Found this looking for information no Georgiana. Disappointing, bait and switch with the thumbnail. 1 minute on what I was looking for and 5 minutes on a Warhol knock off.

A contradictive arrangement confusing the high taste for quality with the popular attitude of an industrial world. To me, it reflects the message that the market price decides all about aesthetics here. Having both kinds of art is ok as a childish arrangement, but as historian's job is somehow questionable...

If painting is all the same it would be pretty boring so something different is a good thing.

Princess Diana descended from the Devonshire family. I read once in an article. 🤗

Not exactly. More accurately, Georgiana, wife of the 5th (not quite sure) Duke, was a Spencer, same family as Diana’s.

    • @judiesuh6858

No..Princess Diana was a Spencer as was the 5th Duchess of Devonshire, Georgiana.
