Time for one of the most time-consuming and repetitive aspects of the post-game, breeding Chocobos. If you want to be able to access all of the Materia caves and get the Knights Of The Realm Materia, you have to bite the bullet and get breeding. I figured that as someone experiencing FF7 in its entirety for the 1st time this was a right of passage I must go through, like monster capturing in FFX. Thanks to the internet, there are great guides out there that make life MUCH easier. Here is the one I used - chocobo-guide....
In this 1st part I breed the Blue and Green Chocobos. We will need these two in order to go on to breed a Black Chocobo, which will be used to finally obtain the Gold Chocobo. Lots of items to gather, Chocobos to capture, breed, and race. And resets. Lots of resets.

Guide I used - chocobo-guide.mikestomb.com/ - The fun begins. There might at times be slight audio sync issues due to the resetting I have to do which messes with the recording a bit. I've always thought KOTR = Knights Of The Realm. I think it's better than "Round", regardless of the context behind it. Knights of the Round makes more sense since it's referencing king Arthur and knights of the round table and hopefully Square won't change it.
Not going to lie, I laughed my ass off at the ruby encounter. Sorry to take such enjoyment at your frustration, but that was funny as hell.
There' s a reason I didn't edit it out ;) In hindsight those are some of the funniest moments of these playlists. Annoying when it happens but funny in retrospect or as an outsider watching.

I am a sad old grandma. I enjoy Chocobo breeding, and I love racing my gorgeous birds, seeing them speed past the competition - even Joe! Also, Ruby Weapon is a total swine. I feel your pain.

Berk, remember the next time you go to the Chocobo Sage's house - the chocobo you saw there - talk to it - it will give you an Enemy Skill materia - I know you beat the game already but for those who haven't played the game, they may not know that - it is the last/final Enemy skill to be acquired in the game :)
Chocobo hot and cold from FFIX and chocobo breeding from FFVII are the best chocobo sidequests in the FF series.

Stat Maxing: am I a joke to you
I cant remember the last time I stat maxed in an FF game, I probably won’t need it in this playthrough anyway. Stat maxing is always tedious, no matter which game you’re playing. But sidequests can always be on a spectrum, this one is on the more tedious end. It’s not always about time, but stuff like luck and repetition also factor in. You can’t really “fail” stat maxing or have to reset or rely on luck sometimes etc, this is a different kind of thing. Just my opinion.
@@Dansg08 im just gonna say i basically have a max cloud with kor maxed 2 of them and thats the only way i ccan beat him other than dazzer trick

I honestly never minded the Chocobo breeding in 7. 8's chocobo mini was sort of lame... but needed if you wanted all cards. Chocobo Hot and Cold from 9 I enjoyed too. I like how it had Sky chocobo rather than an Ocean. Anyhow.. cheers all!
I could never figure out how to get into the Chocobo mini game in 9 - I liked the one in 8 but I agree - it was sorta lame and I didn't play more than to get the first chocobo or a chocobo and never used it later either as I had never equipped the Item menu option which you'd need to summon it lol. I always had Fight, Magic, Draw, and GF or in Squall's case, Card hahaha
With the guide it wasn’t too bad at all, the hard resets annoyed me but outside of that it was okay. If there was also a heavier luck/skill element that went into this whole thing it would have made it a truly horrible sidequest. Imagine the chocobo racing being akin to blitzball in FFX :P
@@Dansg08 Yeah... enjoy it or ya dont. You can get some good items from racing in 7. Plus, the higher your chocobo rank, the more likely you are to get the child you need. I would race them until they couldn't win anymore. U can usually get to A class with a Great chocobo. But it is hard to win there. Usually B is about all ya can do with the Good. Like you said though if people dont like racing in general it is just a pain in the ass!
@@dragonprinceHP yeah... in 8 it wasn't a NEEDED thing unless u wanted Ragnarok on disc 4. But.. other than that it is completely optional. Not worth the headache.
I absolutely loved the entire chocobo side quest in FF7. Those birds were my babies lol. I gave them all unique names and personalities and raced them as high as I possibly could... in EVERY single playthrough. Hot & Cold in FF9 was fun too, especially when your chocobo's level got high enough that it could dig everything up at lightning speed. Plowing through an entire chocograph piece in like 3 seconds is just so satisfying XD
Watching you accidently stumble into ruby weapon made my day, even super FF pros make mistakes, it's nice to know your human. Keep up the great content dude
HAHA ruby weapon that was hilarious. I know a lot of people do not like breeding chocobo's in this game but i love it one my favorite side quests ever, it is so satisfying when you get a 150+ kmh beast. You really should be playing PS4 you get x4 speed, no encounters and soft reset. Also you do not specifically need a Good Male you just need opposites, if you had of kept the first female you got then you would of gotten a male for the second and had no resetting. If anyone wants to get the fastest gold chocobo you should feed them until it says there is no improvement and race them to A or even S rank if you can.
I'm slightly color blind myself and if/when I'm unsure - I take them out for a stroll and if they can walk on the ocean, they are blue, if they can cross mountains, they're a green haha
@Todd Wesley Hellems I call it "Color deficient" but when I do, people will fight with me saying "That's not a thing" - Whatever! *flare* Tell me that's not a thing and I got another for you...*ultima* hahaha - I call it color deficient because if the colors are too close together, I can't tell them apart - and I know that for a fact - two squares/rectangles adjacent to each other, one is red purely and another is a dark-ish orange or pink - either way I'll think the two blocks are the same color, just different shades. I don't have the ability to discriminate between colors as well as other people can and do. So w/ Chocobos I usually name them what I think they are and test them later by taking them for a run and if they walk on water, they're blue. If they're able to cross mountains - they're green haha :) Black and Gold aren't so difficult but - I forget if it's possible when mating to get the gold - to get a yellow instead, but I would never be able to identify that from a gold chocobo so I would take that one out for a test run too and if it can run on water, it's gold, else it's crap I mean yellow hahaha :)

Thanks for this guide dude! Getting a green fem chocobo took me like 45 minutes. I think the PS4 digi version might have different RNG factors. But it worked! Looking foward to getting that golden boy, or girl.

I still can't get a male green chocobo I tried over 20 times 😔
i do the ancient forest the second i can breed chocobo without a guide it takes a while to figure out its good REALLY REALLY REALLY WORTH IT
you don't really need racing to max stat chocoparents (yellow/blue/green/black)
just feed them appropriate greens, go out do some random battle, save reload, and mate.
I always do this back then in PSX, gold choco in around 2 hrs (or less, if youre very, very lucky).
PC/PS4 emulators should help you do easier.

Hey, it been awhile. The reason for my absence was because I was sick and was playing Resident Evil 2 and I guess I keep forgetting.
Right now in my PS4 FFVII game, I'm having a problem getting a Gold Chocobo and I didn't know it's random.
Thank you so much for this . I really wonder what this will look like in the remake .
Enter and Exit method work for me was always getting males. Finally a blue Female.
easy GOLDEN SAUCER MONEY behind the save point there is a house go in out in out in out of the goledn saucer until u see a person at the house talk to them and its easy:)
No way its a 50/50 chance at male or female. Feels more like 98% chance of getting a male 2% chance of female
Completely agree. I’ve been breeding chocobos recently and I never get a female... ever.

2019 is a difficult year to be commentating on Chocobo breeding, 1997 was a simpler time :P
Best way to get one is beat ruby weapon take the rose to the bloke you get the master materia from an he gives you a gold cocobo for it sweet
If you talk to the green chocobo it gives you an enemy skill materia
Around the 31 minute mark, the sound seems to desync. Not sure if it’s just me but I thought I’d let you know.
Yeah, it's addressed in the pinned comment already. The resetting throws off the recording software and causes sync issues. I fixed most of it but every single reset affects it differently so getting them all was difficult. No soft reset on the steam version was really frustrating.
Soft reset is all 4 triggers plus start and select (touch pad ps4) also if you use e-skill lvl4 suicide on a chocobo it will counter with a new e-skill called chocobuckle
I RACED all my special chocobo up to S class and ny black until Ester gives u lots gift for winning S class - u need many more greens than 5 to get a decent one to race to that height thou
Yep the most ridiculous chocobo quest the one in 9 is soooo much better then the one in 10 was shit again lol
How do you get to the one in 10? I'm not familiar with any chocobo quest in 10 unless you mean the one in the calm lands and by the Remiem temple - but that was lame and easy to beat haha - 7 I can usually beat but every now and then I lose to a black chocobo
Seth Fulmer I’m referring to the training one that result in one of tidus’ crest for his ultimate weapon like your riding it and they throw birds at you and you needed a time of 0.0.0 god that was awful but the one at the temple where you race was decent
@@bennybeck I gave up on JUST getting Tidus the Caladbolg - I got it on my Steam game because a friend at the time did it for me on my game lol but when I played on PS4, I avoided his celestial altogether - I just trained the chocobo the minimum so I could ride it to the remiem temple earlier (If you wait until later you don't need to train a chocobo to ride one but I didn't want to wait - I wanted the cloudy mirror early haha. I don't know how anyone has the patience for the chocobo racing in X to get his sigil/crest or whatever.

@@bennybeck I didn't bother w/ the platinum - I couldn't beat either Nemesis OR Penance either so I figured it wasn't worth the aggravation. But to each his/her own :)
You have to talk to the sage too, other wise you dont "know" what breeds are available.

Is there a particular reason you keep resetting instead of just continuing to capture/breed more on the same file?
It's slightly faster to just reset the save and try again. Also you won't waste any resources from battles and you don't have to keep getting carob nuts as well.
@@scrotemcboogerballs590 Maybe it depends on hardware. I can't imagine getting up and walking to my TV every time instead of just moving Cloud back outside.
@@The_One_In_Black well in truth I haven't tried it yet. I have my version on the Xbox so I was thinking I would just go to the home screen and close the game out and just start the game back up. Hopefully that's all I need to do lol. Everything I find as far as videos like this are always either PC or PS.
Ive totally forgot when we can do this sidequest is it disc 3 only or disc 2 also?

its 10 won battles i got my chocobos up to A class and i get green green gren green,, should i get a new good and great and try with them or will the ones i have give me a blue at any time?
For some reason my “great” female chocobo keeps losing her races. While the good male chocobo won with no effort. Idk what to do
Ive reset my game over 25 times, and all I get is "green male." Does the exit tequnique work on switch version?
Ok so I tried to get a Green Female. I tried 15 times in one session of gaming and got a Blue male twice and a Green male 13 times. This really does not seem random at all. The game wants me to have a Green Male chocobo 😂😭

I know there's a unique material that you can get that helps you learn all the other materials where you don't have to have as an example the thunder material attached in the socket and still be able to use thunder or cure or any of the other ones but I forget the name of that material that you need you just got to have it equipped and max out those materials then you automatically learn it where you don't have to use that socket for that material no more but you still able to use it in battle the skill can somebody please make a video about this and is it in the new remix of final fantasy 7 as well
That's the master materia you can get one for each set of color by maxing them.all out OR beating emerald weapon and giving the earth harp you get and giving it to a old man in Kalm. He will trade you for it

you have better luck than me with the rng gods. i have a green male so i need a blue female and i cannot get a blue female to save my life i can get blue males and green males and females. so far 0 for 20 and counting for a blue female.
