Emerald Weapon is one of Final Fantasy 7's optional SUPER Bosses and can be encountered from disk 2 onwards (once the party has gained access to the submarine).
I want to show multiple strategies for defeating the big green one but today we will focus on the most basic. Knights of the Round paired with HP Absorb and a leveled up Counter paired with Mime. Don't forget W-Summon and HP Plus though!

So, I thought of a way to make a small adjustment to your strategy which may prolong the fight, but will keep your whole party up at the end. Basically your setup but as a first cast, W-Summon Phoenix then KoTR. Phoenix revives anybody who's down and KoTR hits hard. Again, your same strat, just takes longer as not as much damage each counter-mime.
That would also allow a lot of flexibility for gaining AP on the other 2. I can't believe I have never thought of this before. I have always either used full KotR with mimes or all lucky 7s 🧀. With that setup you could literally cast, and go do something else. Come back after like 30 mins and collect your rewards.
You could even use full double and triple growth equipment as long as the attacker can still survive a hit from full HP.

This is the strategy I used the first time I beat Emerald years ago. I love how if you're creative with your materia you can make some fights a total joke! Great minds think alike my friend.
Literally just go make a sandwich, watch some TV with my dad and wait for the fanfare music.

Thank you for such marvelous strategy! I timed it in a way where I knew that Emerald was two KoTR hits away from being killed and decided to break the chain to have Tifa's Final Heaven hit instead, followed by Cloud's Omnislash, thus killing this thing in the most epic of ways!

Update: I mastered counter and got level 2 KOTR quickly and it worked exactly like the guide said. Thank you. Didn't have to spend hours grinding KOTR AP!!!

This was a great way of defeating Emerald Weapon I used the same strategy to defeat Ruby Weapon as well. 👍
Worked like a charm! I used this strategy on Ruby but I did a W Summon with Hades and then Knights of the Round, because he doesn't counter KoR with Ultima if you paralyze him with Hades. Thanks for the strat!

I modified this little by putting a mastered counter/mimic combo on my other 2.
Had 2 party members standing at the end.

as a child I used the combo with final attack + (phoenix) + other stuff that I don't remember pretty well, but I used my whole team to do it and was over kill tbh! I remember farming AP like crazy at the sunken submarine with the x3 ap gain weapons! but I don't have that time anymore.

Bro I just beat him after searching the internet to figure it out.
All you need is W Summon & 2nd level KOTR + HP absorb & someone with Mime. Cast KOTR then it'll do it twice, then mime. Repeat mime for the rest of the battle & you'll win. Whoever has mime should have only a few materias to survive the Aire Tam attack (Mime & HP Plus materias). The mimer will live but the rest of the party will die.
It is a little RNG based, but is doable.
I modified it a little but putting a mastered counter/mimic combo on my other 2.
Had 2 party members standing at the end.
Nice job.(slightly better than the live stream! Lol.) As Emerald Weapon doesn't have any status attacks Sprint Shoes is a great accessory. (He can also be slowed e.g. using a Spider Web.) Looking forward to seeing you use other strategies later on. LOMAX had better get a move on!!!

Just killed it at level 61 with just Cloud 🙌🏻
Had him equip 2x 5☆ HP UP, KotR + HP Absorb and Mime. I gave Underwater to another member of my party. This disables the timer and caps the damage of Aire Tam Storm to 5,555 on Cloud as he only has 5 materia equipped. Then it's just a case of doing exactly as you did, cast KotR followed by Mime each turn after. Doing it this way takes longer as you're only castting KotR once per turn but as a result, it cuts out the Battle Square BP grind!

I ended up killing him with 2 k.o.t.r linked to HP/MPAbsorb, 4 Counter-Mimes Mastered and Final Attack phoenix which I didn't really need lol I was so lucky he didn't do AIRETAM STORM xD

Another set up is Quadramagic-Gravity, Quadramagic-Gravity, Gravity-HP Absorb, Gravity-MP Absorb, W-Magic-Mime, on Cloud and Counter-Mime on the other two in the party.
this is awesome! I am doing my crazy platinum trophy now. I am assuming this same thing will work with Ruby Weapon too (only have 2 dead party members in your party so you dont get knocked out)
Hi there I followed every single steps but it isn't fool proof, my Mime stop auto activating halfway and I got killed by Emerald. I tried few attempts yet still stuck now

you can also use lucky 7's here with basically this set up. Granted it's been litteraly decades. I'm just going from memory. You'd gain lucky 7s from cactus island somehow. with knights of the round, w sommon and command in their someplace, with mimic. From what I recall you use w summon with knights of the round and then each the rest of the team mimics that. I think they also would mimic the lucky 7 as well. If it works you'd get 6 sets of lucky seven then 12 sets of knights of the round. Probably alsoing stupid amounts of damage to other bosses. Maybe sepheroth as well.
You can use this exact same strategy on Ruby Weapon, as long as two characters in your party are KO'd before the fight begins. Also, equip a ribbon to the one character who's still alive.
Nice thought!... Ruby was so tough if you used the Brady games guide back in the day lol. Then I learned he can be fing paralyzed and he’s a total joke after that.

When I first played this game 26 years ago, it took me days to work out how to kill Emerald, lol...
I just used this strategy and it worked perfectly!! 🤯 All three of my characters survived and I had 4 minutes to spare. It was so satisfying to bully this asshat of a boss lol.

I don't get it. I'm following your guide EXACTLY and Cloud runs out of summon power and Emerald kills me.
Just tried it on steam. Doesn't seem to work. Cloud just sits there and doesn't counter unless he gets stomped on by emerald.
Amazing strategy, I tried others but Emerald always got bullshit double turns that wiped me anyways. This is the only strat that is 100% guaranteed. Or at least the only foolproof one that doesn't require you to stupidly grind literally 4 counters and 4 mimes (like Omnislash)
Hi this isn't fool proof , somehow I followed the steps in this video but my Mime ain't auto activate and I got killed by Emerald.
Are u joking omnislash with 8 mime and counter materias on clouds ultima weapon u start with omnislash u end with it
I use cloud barrett and whoever, cloud and barrett have 4x cut and 3rd person throwing hero drinks for the first 3 or 4 rounds and megalixirs when needed.
Normal attacks, and Anger max was doing insane damage and omnislash 9999 every hit.
Super simple stuff and emerald goes down quick

How did you learn all the tatics, I've completed the game few times, however how did you get your understanding of the materia combinations ?, did you just play the hell out of it
I've always just walked in with either cloud and omnislash or barret with ungarmax. Two dead except for either cloud or barret. Hit with ungarmax, and then let emerald weapon hit me. I have 7x counter and 7x mime. Last combo is a final attack with phoenix on it, just in case. Literally walk in, ungarmax or omnislash, then let the counters do their thing... Basically a 3 minute kill
I tried this and for some reason with the exact same setup, it won’t work for me. It seems that mime is in my command list and has to be done manually. Even that won’t seem to have the same effect. Maybe it has to do with the ios version?

Ngl I just used my limit break with red 13, cloud and Barrett all level 4 you just gotta time it right so that the WEAPON doesn’t get a turn oh and have underwater

@@boyatall2 You have to use the blue Counter materia linked with Mime, not the purple Counter Attack materia.
Man, there ain't no way I'm EVER gonna get that W summon. You put a lot of time into this game. I'm at level 64, and I rely so much on limit breaks and straight forward attacks. I don't do strategy attacks.
To get the Master Summon Materia, which is by far the longest grinding in the game, takes about 2 and a half hours using the magic pots/w item glitch strategy. So you can pretty much get the W summon materia in less than 3 gameplay hours for sure.
You can't take the counter materia out of Northern Crater anymore, at least not on Playstation console.
Materia system was the best
I don't have discs I downloaded it from the PS store on my PS4.
Please cover Vincent's mug glitch against this boss. He can defeat emerald very quickly.
Also, I never give The Kalm Traveler any rewards beside The Guide Book. You can get those rewards anyway, and I would rather keep The Desert Rose and Earth Harp in my inventory

My purpose for keeping them is that they look nice in the inventory when you are showing off your save file. The Master Materia's aren't really that useful in my opinion, except for Master Command, and you can easily farm for them.
If you set your party up with a Double Cut materia, a slash all materia, and 3 mime's the last bosses are really easy, and if you can beat the weapons, you can beat the remaining game with no problem anyway
Imagine fighting him in the remake and doing this exact same thing.

OMG i just used this strategy right after I posted my comment and I defeated the Emerald Weapon in 1 try!!! All my party members are alive with less than 3mins in the clock!
1. Cloud as you advised (without Magic Plus)
2. Red XIII (Megaelixir and Hero drink Items caster)
3. Vincnet (Demi-Quadra Magic with W-Magic)

I have a question, do you have to have w summon or can you just use kotr?
You can use just KOTR, it just takes longer so you might need Underwater materia as well.
does not work for me, every time cloud gets hit he mimes with his sword, taking KOTR off the table as far as mime goes.
You have to use the blue Counter materia. You're using the purple Counter Attack, which does a counter with a regular attack whenever you're hit instead of countering with the linked materia.
Mine stops after 4 KOTR and and mastered counter and x2 star KOTR strange
yeah same. i have 4x star kotr and it stops at 8. it also subtracts mana..so i can actually only do it 7 times before im interrupted

I always find it cool to beat him with the timer, but certainly you can equip that materia if you wish.
For some reason my hp absorb is not healing cloud with this method.. not sure why

Counter. Not magic counter. Magic counter just has a chance to attack with paired magic materia. Counter is general. You get hit, it counters if mastered. The paired materia being mime you'll Counter with kotr 5x
I kinda want a strategy that makes the most of the AP.
I actually created one about 15 years ago. Only materia you need is W-Item, HP Plus and Underwater. W-Item duplication makes it super easy to beat Emerald even without KotR, Mime etc.
The full strategy was actually posted by me on the FF7 wiki under Emeralds page in like 2005. I recently checked and its still there. Paragraph starts with "Another easy method that involves minimal materia or excess preparation..." or something to that effect. Hope it works for you.
8 mastered kotrs on Barrets missing score have cloud with the apocalypse and cid with his scimitar and they all have rune armlets 😂😅 easy peasy😅😂

Can you still defeat Emerald Weapon with Counter Materia not mastered? Say, if you just got it from The Northern Cave, and wanted to go defeat it right away? I have Knights of the Round at Level 2, at least.
yes with mine materia. mine materia is auto repeat for free. just beat green and red weapons today. while i left the room for phone call.
@@beezwaxx I went back and leveled Counter Materia up to max, while also getting Knights of the Round to level 4. Went and fought Emerald. Managed to get a Mime in. In total, I had four Knight of the Round attacks before Emerald completely destroyed my team.
So, I don't what I did wrong... But I wasn't able to just put my controller down. It attacked...
@@beezwaxx I just facepalmed so hard... I had the Underwater Materia instead of the Magic Plus. So, I'll try again.

@@beezwaxx Yeah! I actually just brute forced, and kept attacking it with everyone. Doing summons and all. As max damage as I could. Healing whenever I could. And I WON! So that's awesome!

No my friend, the Counter materia is different to Counter Attack. Counter Attack counter's enemies with physical attacks.

Love your videos but unfortunately this is wrong u need that knights of round 4 star, I even have 4 blue counter maxed out and mimes , but my knights is only 2 star , make sure u have knights at 4 star guys
