If you use a bit of silicone a couple of times a week and don't want it to go hard, the solution I discovered was nozzles with screw on caps, Screwfix part 6830X
I've never had great luck with those. I usually have one or two disposable gloves in the toolbag that I keep to cut the fingers off of; if I have a tube that I want to keep, I'll take the nozzle off, put a finger strip over the tip and screw another clogged nozzle back on (although I do also have some 3d printed caps just for this). can keep silicone/adhesives/caulks usable for a long time if you get a good enough seal.
so sorry for oscar you looked after him so well and he was a young guy but it is sad hope you got it all sorted and please come back as you will learn so much from Artisan and its years from now you will see that
Hopefully Oscar didnt feel the need to leave, due to internet bullying, like some young people are exposed to, best wishes to him in on his future workplace apprenticeship, it was good to see a lad being trained, by such competent and funny tradesmen.
I'm curious if the technique used to wire the doorbell is needed for wiring in a nest thermostat? I want to install a nest thermostat, but I don't have a preexisting wired thermostat, so i wanted to some how take power from a near by wall socket and run that wire to power the new thermostat. Would this be possible?
My best to Oscar. Hope everything turns out well for him and you can get him back . In the meantime, you have a brilliant fellow in Cory working with you. It's nice to you and Cory working together. You complement each other. And besides that, he is brilliant with his comic relief. I really enjoy his humor....... and his excellent craftsmanship. I would not be surprised if Artisan Electrics is considered the best. Jordan, please keep the youtube videos coming. What you and Cory do is a little over my head, but i can't get enough of your videos. I enjoy every one of them. I am learning a lot about electric wiring. Thanks
You should have gone on the Virgin Media hole drilling course as they seem to teach their installers to use an oversized SDS drill bit and put all of their bodyweight behind the drill and use it from inside the property so it comes out the outside like a Dumb Dumb bullet and busts all the brick face out ... Job Done!
Referring to 22 minutes in, Cory fitting the nest smokes, I’ve always just made a small hole to pull the cables through above the mounts for such devices. So much nicer to have the backbox there. Will do that in future.
The other elephant in the room is the heat alarm aspect, which you only mention in passing. The big problem with Nest has always been no heat alarm. Even their own technical support suggested I buy a different product when I asked about it. That was maybe a couple of years ago & of course the norm is no smoke alarms in kitchens. Has this all been addressed by Nest now?
Is it true, that squirting expanding foam around electrical wires to stop them from moving is bad? I was told by a Germany sparky that the chemical in the expanding foam dries out the wire sheath causing it to become brittle and crack.
Plaster board back box in ceiling ? Where’s the fire rating with a room above . Bet you wouldn’t of fitted a non fire rated downlights in the same area.
It's a smoke and heat alarm, surely that fact that y'know.... if it starts going bat shit crazy, theres already a fire in the room its monitoring, you would expect anyone on the floor above to be leaving quite sharpish.
@@Fishbait075 that’s not what I’m saying though . They put a large hole in a fire rated ceiling with rooms above that fire could pass through. They wouldn’t of fitted a non fire rated downlights in the same location which has a smaller hole .
As that ceiling was a single layer of plasterboard is was not fire rated , if you install a back box in a fire rated ceiling you simple fit an intumitant pad stuck to the back box. You can always tell a fire rated wall or ceiling that have a minimum of two layers of 9mm plasterboard to give them a 30 minutes fire ratting. I've only ever know fire rating ceiling in flats and not houses
Always do your back box moveable lug on the same side as the other socket it’s next (if there is one next to it that is) Makes it easier to level the 2 sockets to each other
Awesome team! Jordan knew great measure the drill hole Good let Cory learn how to correctly measure the drill hole. Whew.. Perfect hole Also Oscar is a great film camera. Thumb up! Cheer!
Great job and drilling in particular! It is great to see you do your thing again. Your strength really is the quality craftsmanship. Have to say your company name is spot on. Be careful out there with the expanding business, scaling craftsmanship is tough! Thanks for the video.
Amazing job. Thanks for sharing these very useful videos. It gives me more confidence to want to move forward with setting up my electrician business. Thanks.
Brilliant video fellas 👍👍 new subscriber 😁 can I ask , sorry if it’s in the video, does the nest thermostat controls plug straight into a socket or usb . Cheers
I'm with you Jordan...I put the ground (earth) lug on the bottom if at all possible. You've never seen the silicon plug trick?? Sad to hear about Oscar...he seemed like a really good kid :)
Excuse me Jordan, but right at the beginning of you video my dining room speaker piped up and started playing the old Frank Sinatra song "Give me another cup of coffee". So after yelling out "Hey Google stop". We were able to get get the video going again. No I'm not trying for a second viewing!😂😂😂.
Nice tip for drilling the screw straight into blockwork. I know you can get specific screws that can go into brick as well. Can't remember the name of them though
ohh dear! come back soon oscar! cant replace the young chap, he was bril! oscar... if your out there, please come back if you can! we will miss you mate! nice job there! 😊 cory, your apprentice has a thing for cupboards... i would worry! 😂😂😂
Hi Jordan, Silverline do set of three sds masonry bits 1.5m long (12,16 and 24mm) CEF can supply them. You can start with a 1m bit to get your angle just right then follow through with the longer bit. Actually quite good quality for the price, drilled a good number of holes with this system and still going strong. If you want the ultimate extra long masonry bit, contact Hilti they will make you a bit any size (but will have to be sitting down when they give you the price!) Great videos, keep up the good work, stay safe guys. Pete 👍
Just catching up on my fave YT electricians. Sorry to see Oscar go. Is there anything that the RUclips community can do to help him with whatever it is? Hopefully it wasn't a problem with the workplace!!
You guys need to start drilling in the southern Indian Ocean, a place where no man has ever been. A place full of intreague and mysteries. Great job as always.

So funny to watch these videos back to see how quiet Corey used to be 😂

Hi so can the nest protect smoke and C02 alarm be placed in the kitchen or do nest do one for a kitchen area. Thanks
25:00 Cory 100% had his fingers crossed behind his back
Nicest apprentice on RUclips will be sadly missed, all the best
Sad to here that Oscar has left, he and Cory made a good team, hopefully he will do well in the future.

How did you fix the transformer in the back box mate? Bit of din rail?

What model SDS drill u using?
Definitely need a short from Cory about that silicone trick 👍
Good plan!

Same with screwing straight into that kind of block 👌🏼 I actually love when I get a wall like that

I agree, maybe an intumescent pad in the box would of helped but the post is unnecessary really

Please can you let me know the enclosure you used to hold the transformer in
What transformers do you guys use / recommend for the nest doorbell (in the UK)?
Why did you use stranded wire instead of solid core?
What do you recommend for a ferrule crimping tool budget friendly kit as in electronics not electrical but would like to use them from time to time
Brilliant video lads. Shame about Oscar Hope corys not leaving that lad is a legend!
Did you mount the transformer on a rail ? Away from the sides of metal enclosure?
Awesome team! Jordan knew great measure the drill hole Good let Cory learn how to correctly measure the drill hole. Whew.. Perfect hole Also Oscar is a great film camera. Thumb up! Cheer!
Is the transformer just sitting loose in a backbox or did you mount it somehow?
Getting a camera operator and Cory to do the lighting! Very Mr Nagy style! 😀 Great video guys!
🤣👍
Is it expensive running central heating all the time? I am in Australia, not a common thing here lol
Did you install an actual chime as well or was that doorbell press at the end from the Google mini?

Once again perfectly explained and demonstrated.
The Artisan Boring Company, bringing high quality drilling to the masses.

Can use laser to help with angle :)
Nice banter between the hostage And the capture
What about flour weevils in the bread roll is that Vegan friendly?
I wonder why there are some houses which don't even have a classic door bell system installed ... are they built with rf based door bells in mind?
@3:55 those all important CO2 alarms :(
You 2 work well together and great job done and corey is great at his job well done
First time catching one of your videos, I enjoyed the humour and installation of smart google products. 😁
Why does Cory look like he's being held hostage?
🤣🤣🤣

Shame to see Oscar go I enjoyed the Oscar and Corey vids

Thanks

How does nest protect get on in the kitchen ?
See some comments above. It's a pretty smart detector.

11:10 perfect angles again 😎
I loved Oscar's smile... He was a top dude. All the best with whatever crap you are dealing with mate.
18:08 So you added silicone around the hole to prevent water ingress then pushed the wire into the wall. 🤷🏻♂️

To follow up on your lugs discussion, why not bend the top and bottom into the box? Will give you more space.
Yeah good tip
Cheers for the reply, I always do it after someone showed me it.
Remind me when top bottom lugs are used these days ?
@@AndyK.1 my point exactly, but not many sparks do it.

Cory, sorry mate but that is NOT a sausage roll 🙄😂
🤣👍
Wish you were around when I attempted the slanted drilling for my nest hello. Let’s just say it didn’t turn out quite as well 🤦🏼
Think Oscar got pumped 😂
Keep safe Oscar, hope to see you back soon!
I do like what you've done, but why couldn't the transformer have been on the same level as the fuse spur just so it looked better aesthetically
It would have been hard to get the cable to it that way without chasing the wall out more extensively
@@artisanelectrics fair point
You looked at getting the Hilti PX10 yet :)
Just saw the rest of the video, sad news about Oscar (Good Lad) he was learning well. All the best for the future Oscar. Stay safe guys. Pete 👍

shame about oscar but these things happen hopefully he's ok and can use what he learned with you in the future

I learnt a sparkies job on the internet including regs, wired up all my house myslef, bought a spaky in to test and give certificate for £80
Do you mean Co as in carbon monoxide? As you said Co2 which is carbon dioxide?
Sorry to see Oscar go, best of luck!
After you loaded him up with snickers trousers and tools ,he left.
