I had number 1. It was horrible! Started in May 2018. I thought my life was over. Little by little, I habituated. Today, I barely hear it. I no longer have any distress from it. You can get better.
I got tinnitus in April 2018. One night when I was going to bed I heard some weird ringing noise in my right ear. It was changing in tones; sometimes lower sometimes higher. I didn’t think to much about so I went to bed thinking that it would be gone the next morning. Woke up the next morning and it was still there. I went to work trying not to think about it. Then it went on for days, weeks and months and still it was ringing in my right ear. I lost my appetite and my mental health went down south. Sometimes I felt like I wanted to die. But I kept on fighting. Went to work everyday, hung out with my friends and talked with my parents everyday so that I would feel better. I thought to myself: There must be a cause to my tinnitus. Then it hit me. I had for a few months fallen asleep on the couch in a weird position so that the right side of my neck would be strained. I could feel a huge difference between the right side of my neck and the left. So, I decided to go to the gym a few days a week so that my neck would be relaxed. Also, not fall asleep on the couch 😂 A few months later the tinnitus would slowly get less noticeable and now few years later it’s completely gone. So that’s my story of how I got tinnitus. I hope that everyone of you who battles with tinnitus beats it; one way or another ❤
Hi how’d you change the way you slept because I think I have a similar issue because my pillows are a little flat and uncomfortable at times Update [2 months later] I have made a 70% recovery❤️ Guys if you have a busy life or you’re always stressed and overstimulated try to remind me yourself to relax once in a while and I’m telling you, everyone can recover from tinnitus you just have to ignore it and it’ll gradually go away in a few days/weeks
Oh my God it can be gone?? I think i have the ringing or jet plane machine noise now in my ears, i got it after i forgot to turn off the song from my phone while sleeping, coz i just fell asleep, i put the phone too close to my ears i think 😭😭 i never done this before. In the middle of the night i got awake n turned it off, then when woke up in the morning this noise came until now, been a week already now😢 i m so afraid
Nice one!. Mine started in 2011, I believed it was my neighbours tormenting me. So I moved 60 miles away but it got worse. My neighbours obviously followed me. Or it could be my new pillow 🤔
I explain it to my wife as the sound you hear when you put a sea shell to you ear and then add a faint high tone ring in the distant background. I didn't know there was a diagnosis or medical term for it until recently. I now understand why I've always needed a noise machine and fan running in the background to sleep...it all makes sense now.
Mine is a mix of: Ringing, crickets & hiss. And sometimes I hear random high pitched tapping sounds, like you would hear underwater when banging small rocks or stones together. I learned to live with it. Sitting around thinking about it is the worst you can do for it. Stressful situations and/or being alone can intensify the awareness and level of T. Masking sounds don't work for me. Just a "good" attitude. And knowing there's always someone worse off than I. God Bless you all.
@@urvi65 No, just a hearing test. The Dr. said my hearing was normal for my age. The ringing is above normal. I am a musician, and played hard rock for 50 years. Paying for it now
I have a combination of a few of those at different times. Thank you for posting. Anyone who doesn’t experience this firsthand will never understand what it’s like … and I hope they never ever do.
I have been dealing with this for months now. It's so loud and high pitched sometimes I just cry because it's all i hear. Mine is the first sound you played.
Are you okay now? I had it for 3 weeks now. my ears hear sounds like crickets and horns idk why I hope you are okay and I hope everything will be back to normal ):
I suffer from the same thing since 8 years now , i cried many times i even started to bang my head into the wall so it stops..... stay strong and try to hang on until new medical science gets us a cure or a treatment
@@blackidude if you have it for short time , you should go visit an Audiologist or an ENT doctor since as far as i have read in google it can be permanent if it lasted more than 3 months. Dont lose hope , im 25 years old now and im a tinnitus sufferer but im still standing.
I first noticed it in my 20’s when I’d be in a totally silent room. Funny thing is, I thought it was just normal and that the hissing was “my hearing cleaning itself out” and therefore healthy, therapeutic. This mindset helps me embrace it. I like putting in earplugs, or sitting in the silent interior of my car just listening to it and observing it. Who knows, maybe it’s just an indication of the hearing organs getting a rest because of the absence of having to constantly process ambient noise?
@@cryptonian7706 Always a good suggestion, but I don't think he meant he was driving with them, just that he was sitting in his car, because it was completely silent (unlike a home with the heater or fridge coming on, etc), & being able to listen & hear his tinnitus. I might do that! I hear white noise & I just realized that it was always VERY worst after a 9-10 hours shift in the bar w/ constant loud music. But maybe I never really noticed my tinnitus because I always unwind w/ either a movie or whatever show I am watching at the moment & falling asleep on it, but one day I hadn't & oh boy, I was like " the sound/music must have been extra loud today" but then realized that sound(s) muffles your tinnitus & it had there the whole time since I don't know when!
I have had this since I was a child. Some times loud, some times quite and, sometimes the pitch changes. I always thought it was normal. That it was the "sound of silence" until my early teens when I asked my mom why the silence was so loud sometimes. I had to explain and off to the doctor who said I had nothing. Too expensive of a Dr.'s visit to be told I was trying to get attention. Never seeked medical help since, but sometimes I feel like I am going crazy.
Same here. I could even hear it at all, heard all the other ones. So I went back numerous times, and its identical, guess thats why I didnt register it.
That's nuts, I didn't expect to hear a spot-on representation of the sound I hear all the time! Electrical Noise sounds almost identical to what I hear all the time. Thanks for sharing :)
For evry1 in panic out there . know that if u stop stressing it will go away eventualy ALSO many many times tis caused from the jaw muscles being too tight. Etiher from clenching ur jaws at sleep or during the day and guess what... thats cause ur stressed and u dont realise it ;) So chill ignore it reduce ur stress and ur gona be fine
I like this video. Tinnitus just came 4 weeks ago. I m staying positive and practice deep breathing. what i notice is if you dont focus too much eventually your brain will adapt and did not trigger for reaction on tinnitus sound. Once the sound become constant to the brain it ll pretent to be normal. So try to be normal. it works for me.
Like the clock on the wall that's ticking all day long but even though it's there all the time, we don't hear it until we listen to it, best comparison from my doctor. Still impossible for me to tune it out though, even after years, hopefully your T will be temporary
I've had Tinnitus all my life. 24/7, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. It never stops. As a teen, albeit completely annoying, I thought everyone had it until it came up in conversation and stunned my mother. That's when I learned that's not normal. But I was also experiencing vertigo ... which I didn't know there was a name for it ... but noone ever knew what it was. The tinnitus always sounded like a mix of cicadas and white noise or waterfalls. As an adult, I'd say starting in my late 20's to early 30's other sounds started coming in. Sounds like a rumbling train along with the cicadas and other stuff and also the train horn/bell thing for lack of the actual word, lol. Then, first starting in my left ear, I began having really random moments where the entire orchestra in there shifted gears, stop completely and was replaced by one single shrill high pitched tone exactly like number 1. Only in my left ear at yhe time and lasted for maybe 30 secs to a minute ... very loud initially and then fading over those second or minute. Also, that was all I could hear in that ear until the normal tinnitus returned. Now, within the past 8 years or so, it happens randomly in either ear ... not both at the same time though. I have been diagnosed with menieres since about 2010. Vestibular testing showed declining Vestibular function in the left ear. I was once treated for bpv but that never worked. I do get dizzy if my head is below my shoulders, or if I am standing and look directly up to the sky/ceiling. I get what I call occasional head buzz's where it feels like a bumble bee went through my head making my head and vision buzz. That's kinda hard to explain ... Dr's usually look at me with a blank stare when I try to. The tinnitus though .... at this point, when I hear a sound I don't recognize, I will think before I speak to determine if it is really a sound or just another tinnitus thing. Otherwise I will look like a nut job by reacting to it. Well, my left ear just reminded me not to forget about the beeping morse code.
This must actually suck so much. I had a buzzing noise recently last more than it should (for probably like an hour). Going to bed fixed it. The next day I got the same buzzing noise in my ear but this time it lasted way longer. Going to bed fixed that one too, but I got it again shortly after waking up. I really hope it's not permanent. I once had it for more than a week (ear wax build-up) and it was unbearable, especially when falling asleep. It really weighed down on my mood back then. I can't imagine living with it your whole life, especially with the side effects you mentioned. For now, mine comes and goes but if it stays, I guess I'll have to get used to that.
same here, have number one pretty loudly in the right ear (also in the left one) with a very low morse code beeping type thing that if i focus on i can hear, sometimes as you mention all sound dissapears in one ear and an even louder ringing comes, but it usually only lasts 5 seconds. I dont think i have exactly what you're talking about with the head buzzs and diziness but ill have to get tested to make sure.
I’m 72 and have had this very quite wave sound for years and yes only when it’s quiet do I hear it. I compare the sound to like when you were a kid and held a shell to your ear to hear the ocean. The sound was so quiet that you had to concentrate to hear a very soft wave sound. Until about 5 years ago, I thought that it was completely normal to hear that sound. It doesn’t bother me, but I think I will mention it at an appointment I have with the ENT in a couple weeks.
Hi Dr. Thompson. I was in a motorcycle accident a little over four years ago, resulting in both cerebral and vestibular concussions, and have had very loud tinnitus since that time. I have been to an audiologist and attended a tinnitus clinic, tried different hearing aids, etc., and nothing has made much difference, so I simply have learned to live with it. When you ask us to comment regarding what our tinnitus sounds like, at first, as I listened, I was surprised that I could not hear #1 (ringing) no matter how loud I turned up my computer. I could hear all the others, but not #1. It struck me (I am a counselor and I teach psychology) that perhaps the reason I could not hear it was because my tinnitus was exactly that sound, and was therefore masking it. So I got out my headphones, jacked the volume way up, and low and behold I could barely hear it - same tone, just ever so slightly louder. I wanted to share this with you in case others might experience the same thing as they listen to the 10 different sounds. If your tinnitus is exactly like one of the ten, you may be like me, and simply not hear it because your tinnitus masks it. Thank you so much for your video.
I just had the same experience. I was wondering why there was no sound for the Ringing one. Then I read your comment and thought of course.. I had to confirm by sending the video to my sister to confirm there was actually a sound. I have an appointment coming up with an ENT specialist next month, now I can say this is what I hear all the time.
Mine has been a lifelong battle, but undiagnosed. Sort of a combination of the static and white noise effect played, but deeper and very intense. It happens mostly in loud environments but can also become overwhelming simply when a person speaks loudly.
The first ringing sounds, it used to fade when I relaxed but now it's constant. I've been off work for 4 months from anxiety and I think it became worse as I became more anxious. I'm getting better at ignoring it and doing a variety of nerve releasing exercises around my head and neck. Fingers crossed it'll improve as I manage my anxiety better 🤞
I’m exactly the sound of ringing (the 1st one). It’s so exact to the noise I’m hearing that at first I couldn’t hear any noise on this video. I had to put my devise up close to my ear to identify anything. It’s an nightmare for me. I’ve had this 5 years as the result of a car accident (I whacked my head on a window at the moment of impact)
I am 66 years old and have had Tinnitus for as long as I can remember. Mine sounded like crickets chirping on a summer's night and it was always comforting to me. In 2011 I got Vertigo and the crickets went away but then I had a really high pitched noise similar to your jet engine sound. I really missed the crickets and could hardly stand the new sound. Jan. 2019 I went onto a plant based diet and after a few months the sound was still high pitched but not as loud. There were two nights last year (a few months apart I did not document it) I woke up in the middle of the night with the feeling that there was something wrong. After a few minutes I realized what was wrong - everything was very quiet there was not ringing in my ears. Unfortunately it only lasted for about a day and a half each time - but the sound is still high but for the most part is is a lot quieter. Has this happened to anyone else? And is this normal? Any insight into this would be greatly appreciated.
Occasional spikes in increased loudness are common. Your experience of a few days with significant silence for multiple days and then the tinnitus returning is not common. Tinnitus is an ever-changing condition. Good to take note of the situation but from your history it doesn't suggest a specific treatment or red flag of any sort.
switch back to standard diet and see what happens. The improvement is not necessarily linked to the plant based diet. B12 is good for tinnitus - and plant based diet you will need B12 pills. My T is always better after pork beef chicken.
Mine started in the nineties after three episodes of vertigo which got progressively worse until the last one put me on the floor and then the tinnitus started but then disappeared after a short while but has returned in the last twelve months,it’s like a hissing sound with a with a lower pitched ring and I usually get a day off a week but mostly it’s there constantly but a lot of the time I don’t hear it or my brain does a good job of covering it?anyway I’m stuck with it and it has no real negative affects on my health at the moment, thanks for the video and maybe one day soon they will know the cause and perhaps can help those people with a severe case.
I have that electric noise but I barely notice it. I'm convinced I actually hear electricity cuz very rarely, if I'm in the middle of nowhere, I hear silence.
I have titinus but it’s not proven by an doctor or smth im still asking my parents since 3 years to go to the doctor it’s kinda getting annoying and now I have 2 types of titinus that one syncing with my heart beat and the ringing
I have been dealing with this for months now. Its so loud and high pitched. Mine is the first sound you played. Dr. Ben i appreciated your video. Keep it up 👍👍
I want to ask you something I have tinnitus in my right ear. and often I can also hear it in my left ear Is that possible? i have tinnitus since april 2022 I have to tell you since I had an ear infection and during that ear infection I heard a soft sound and it is still there now the ear infection started on January 13 where I was prescribed ear drops by the GP assistant but it didn't work later in the week my ear was suddenly closed and I went back to the doctor and then I got ear drops for the 2nd time and on February 6 I went to the ENT doctor and he saw that my left ear was still inflamed was restless and received ear drops from the ENT doctor so I'm really terrified that I now have tinnitus in my left ear as well
I have about 4 different tones at all times, highs and lows, extremely loud: ringing, jet engine and tea kettle mixed with 'tinny' sounding pitches. Didn't hear the exact one, because there's several all at once.

Same here, with the time in my case has been decreasing
Same here. With relaxing technic some times managed to reduce to white noise, before falling asleep. I would be pretty OK with white noise.Interesting that colde weather, anxiety can turn on jet engine. Punching sounds with exercise (boxing) can eliminate completly for a few seconds. Or just my cautiousness fade away, I do not know. But when it is came back its like turn a volume up gradulally. One of the best similiarities with refigierator sound (compressor). I know some tinnitus sufferer who feels the same. Even more, I know some of them who weake up night at first time the T sound. and he can hear the refigerator but the T as well. Interestingly some months before my T first time poped up, I became very sensitive for high pitch sounds like AC or special IT devices (office routers). That is definietly an ingredient the high pitch enviroment noises + stress= tinnitus may occure.
It is in my right side only.. Very rare cases I can hear a bit diff. in my left, but that sound if poped up I can surpress immediately. Strange. Very strangey. I gues it is some psyho thing or some cautiosness disorder.
I wouldn't call it tinnitus, at least for me as it's just the noise I hear when all other noise around me is gone. It's always been that way as long as I can remember, which is about age 3. It's like a combination of ringing, white noise, and a faint hiss. Incredibly faint and never really bothered me.
iam 25 years old and having constant ringing Tinnitus on both ears and Pulsatile tinnitus on my right ear since from past 6 months After checking my ears in Endoscopy my ENT specialist Dr Naveen said my left ear nerve has become Little weak ... He was giving treatment with medications After 2 months Audiologist took BERA and OAE test but it was showing normal But still im having more Tinnitus
I have the jet engine or tea kettle whistle in both ears rn and can distinguish the sound very good with the examples u have thanks for the name to the sounds
Sometimes I have ringing, sometimes jet engine, but sometimes I have a rushing/whooshing sound that matches the outflow of blood, and that goes along with the sensation of pressure in my neck or head. I also have a flicking noise in my ear that I can't quite hear normally, but if I put ear plugs in I hear it clearly, and I can sometimes quiet it by stretching my jaw muscle/opening my mouth wide. I think this flicking noise goes on throughout the day and is just below the level of hearing, but I think it maybe causes exhaustion. I'm also extra sensitive to noise, and loud noises like sirens and alarms actually hurt. A noisy day will exhaust me for sure.
I have a rare one where I randomly feel my ossicle bones reacting even though there's no loud noises around. Lately I've been experiencing what I can only describe is like electromagnetic waves bending in and out of my ears. It'll come along with a lot of pressure in my head and it feels as if a machine nearby is projecting those loud sound waves 😓
Same here! But I kinda find out it's less there when I take some muscle medicine like robax. I think its a muscular/nerve thing. It's also better since I practice a lot of upper neck and back massage. But mostly upper neck. I feel the tension in my temps when I massage this region. I have severe anxiety problem etc so I think its related to tense muscles. Would explain the Osscle bone thing too, there is a lot of tiny muscle there. I have some physiotherapy for tinnitus next month, hope it will help. Also, check your sinuses with your doctor. It can be that too.
Same here, do you also feel vertigo as well, and that something is pressing on your head from the inside constantly! Sometimes I think my brain is getting ready to shutdown, or that I am about to lose my hearing!
Same here bud and not only do I hear it I feel the vibration of it.... like a droning sound or underground drilling and it feels like it's in wave form.... there's a massive telecom mast about 600 metres from my home I'm starting to think it could be that now 5G is being switched on.
I have the ringing sound. It is amazing that my tinnitus sound is so common, I was afraid I was the only one who had this experience. Thanks Dr.Ben, I really appreciate you!! I subscribed to your channel!!
@@gabrielescanilla4419 try not to let it get to you! the first month I had it was TORTURE. 1 or 2 hours of sleep..depression..not eating..panic attacks ..crying ..it was rough. But once you realize its not hurting you and you just sort of let it be ..your reaction to it diminishes and you take away Its power over you. Now I sleep like a baby and it doesn't bother me at all anymore even tho it's still there. I hope you're doing better tho 🙏
i had and still sometimes have the electrical noise but its like more high pitched i dont know how to explain it but my first time i thought its like a creature living inside my head screaming in this consistancy
I experienced three different sounds for a week (ringing, buzzing, hissing tea kettle sound).it was very stressful. Honestly, i don't know what i did right but the tinnitus sound went away after a week.Just wanted people to know that tinnitus could heal overtime. It may take sometime but it can get better.
No offense but for those like me who've had it for many years and tried pretty much everything without success, it feels like hope is gone, I'd managed to live with it before but after a long sickness the noise has gone much louder. I'm so glad you didn't experience it long, it can drive people into madness 😣
Quaye Clement hi iv got it now it suddenly came on and now it’s constant it will be a week since i first noticed it on tuesday what did you do to make yours go way within a week as i really want mine to go away do you think mine could also go away after a week please let me know thanks and when you had it was it constant for a week before it went thanks
once I had #1 , that ringing, after a real sound injury, combined with cold air and constant stress of many months long. It has been treated with meds and infusions and went away. But a hearing loss of 5% remained on my left ear. 10 years later , I suffered on a burn out for two years long. In that time the ringing came back. Sometimes on one ear, sometimes both. Sometimes it was a high pitched ringing E, sometimes a louder but middle tone soft F,F#,G,G# or A. It only stopped when I managed to calm down. Another 8 years after that, I suffered on a burnout again. I learned how to tell my ears to relax. They listen and now I can controll that ringing. However, there is something new which I blame on 4G antenna on the roof, the router in my appartment, my smartphone and the WIFI of my Tablet next to my bed. Its different than the tinitus noises, its more silent and not really coming from the ears. It feels more like two tiny thin wires from the ears to the center of the brain which causes this permanent sound which I cannot control. It sounds a little like #7 "electrical noise" except its clear without any white noise or hearbeat. Its like a simple high C , calm, silent, faint but constantly present. Its much louder in the morning, mostly when I forgot to turn off all WIFI devices and when my neighbors are at home, using theit WIFI ... some headphones make that sound too, when you plug them into the stereo but have not pressed any play button yet. Then you can also hear a silent high pitched noise which tells you the headphone is online
Thanks Ben, its a very helpful video and my tinnitus sound is much close to Ringing. I am new in this tinnitus world and your video helped me a lot to figure out what i am dealing with. Thanks
Hi! Mine sounds like a high pitched Morse code sound. It varies in length and speed and it's really bothersome, especially when there's silence and when trying to fall asleep. Thank you for addressing this subject and for helping us understand it.
Same thing. I hear morse code in left ear. Very quiet. Right ear suffers from toned sound only during sounds from outside. In silence eee sound fades away in a seconds. Also during sleep I hear pulsating noises in both ears. It's been a 6 months when I heard all this and began concentrating attention on these noises. Horrible time/
That just started happening to me! It woke me up at night and it doesn't let me sleep in mornings, have you had any luck of at least naming it properly? It's same pitch random beeping with different intensities and absolutely random and irregular intervals
Same here.. like a tapping sound no specific rhythm . I wonder what it is. It started only when I would lay on my belly.. now it happens randomly . Mostly right ear. I did gain some weight .. wondering if that has anything to do with it. It’s not painful.. just hope it’s nothing too serious
I am a Bangladeshi living in Saudi Arabia for work purpose. I am suffering from tinnitus for the past one month. I saw the ENT doctor and he gave me medicine. Along with that, I perform an act of praying two rakats, then after Surah Fatiha, I blow on the water and drink the water. Alhamdulillah I hear little noises now. Inshallah the rest will heal.
Mine is mostly the high pitched ringing, but sometimes it’s a whooshing or motorized sound, and occasionally popping sounds. But the constant that never stops is the ringing. I’ve had this for all of my adult life, and I’m 64 now. I’m mostly used to it but it has been interfering with my ability to hear in recent years, especially conversations,
I have the low buzzing every day, but tea kettle happens when I start getting a moderate migraine but get the high pitched ringing when I am bout to get a serve migraine.
@@roshan1980 bro i have some fluttering sound in my ear now i am normal maybe it was due to i cleaned my ear with earbud and 100% alcohol so dumb me i am okay just back to check my community
Mine is similar to the high-pitched sound in the Jet Engine sound except even higher in pitch and somewhat like the tea kettle sound. The tinnitus I have has two tones at the same time - a constant extremely high-pitched tone, and a constant slightly lower tone that sometimes increases in volume and clarity, then reverts to the blend of the dual tones. I also have a near constant problem with Musical Ear Syndrome in addition to moderate hearing loss and the tinnitus, all going at the same time.
First wave covid long hauler. My tinnitus is the ringing and electrical noise type. It’s constant since mid 2020. I’ve found that water noises and crickets are great white noises that help ‘cancel’ out the ringing. It gets worse when my other long covid symptoms are worse - especially with insomnia and migraines (ironically I’m more sound than light sensitive with migraines … so migraines makes tinnitus worse which makes a migraine worse…. ) I’m learning to use tinnitus as an early warning system for when I need to take a work break.
I'm 16 now and I've had tinnitus for add long as I can remember, I've got no idea where it came from! It usually sound like a jet engine, but every now and again it feels like I'm underwater in one ear and I loose my balance!
Hey :) I have a friend which told me about this one time he had a virus in his ear which messed with his balance, it just disappeared after 3 months. But could be worth seeing a doctor :)
I was in the shower and began experiencing a mix of the pulsatile tinnitus heartbeat and whooshing as soon as I got out. I’m 17 and as a toddler I had tubes put in my ears no idea if it has something to do with it but I’ve had my ears pulse before throughout the years in certain temperatures, this really concerned me when it matched my heart beat
My ear frequencies are beautiful sounds of various high and higher pitches, sometimes chord like, then a soothing soft solo, they get wavy then change speed of wave like a golden ratio in proportion. They alternate ears a lot but sometimes play at once. I often stop and meditate in a quiet area just to hear them better. My hearing is sensitive, I can decipher pitches well as I play music by ear. Sometimes I hear music I've never heard before when no music is playing. Not crazy, lol. I'm an occasional therapist by day. 2:38
Mine kinda switches around, sometimes it’s a jet engine sound, sometimes a hissing tea kettle, and sometimes ringing. It’s not as loud or high pitched, at least not all the time, but it annoys me so much. It makes me feel insane and crazy. And what i hate is that it’s probably my fault. I listened to music on my headphones and earbuds so loud for about 3 years, and didn’t take care of my ears. I’m 13, and I wish I didn’t do this to my ears. Please take care of ur ears everyone!!
Is the sound of "bag of sands continuously being dropped on my left ear" a Tinnitus too? I'm hearing it right now the moment I woke up and haven't stopped.
@@かずみ-k1i It occasionally happens again but I always forget to check what I was doing right before it occurs, what could've caused it, so I think I'm gonna have to collect those observation first before going to the doctor.
Mine is pulsatile.... Has been for years... Have been to many ENT's and none have helped so far.. It comes and goes depending on the day, weather, mood, etc.. it is annoying to say the least, but it is not something I cannot deal with..I didn't realize there were so many different sounds.. Thanks for the video...
I suffer from low frequency tinnitus, which sounds nothing like the sounds in this video. The sound I hear, every night, is around 40 HZ, and does have a steady rhythm, a bit like the motor of a fan. I’ve been suffering from this since late 2019. I had my hearing tested in a soundproof room at the hospital, and was told that my hearing in the low frequency range was slightly off the chart (acute), especially for my age, which was 55 at the time of the test, but that my hearing at the higher frequency range had deteriorated slightly. At the time of the test, I did not have tinnitus, but I did have a neighbour who played his music all night long, and the bass kept me awake at night. I managed to record the bass that was coming through the walls, so I know it wasn’t tinnitus. Living next door to this was hell, and I’m aware that I’ve become highly sensitised to any low frequency noises, such as cars going past my property at night, or planes flying overhead. Those noises seem much louder than before. I haven’t been diagnosed with tinnitus, but I can’t record what I hear, even when it’s really loud. Can this kind of tinnitus be caused by being subjected to bass, from music, coming through the walls?
Mine is a mixture of the last two (whooshing and Ocean) but I’ve had hearing tests done and they said everything is fine. Still annoying as heck though. Especially when I’m tired or irritated.
I’ve had the first one for almost 7 years now. It’s awful and i can’t hear good at all now. That being said it’s something I’ve learned to live with, appreciate your hearing kids
I had to go back and listen very closely to "ringing" because I couldn't hear it on your video. I put the speaker up to my ear and finally heard the sound that started in music school at age 18. I am 63 now. It is impacting hearing my boss talk to me from her office. She gets annoyed.
I had the heartbeat and wooshing tinidus and ladies and gents i recommend going to a doctor they will give you some vitamins and some waterg things (i dont remember what's they called) and in a week or so your ears will be fine

Like a mix between 1 and static i have a TBI just got onto all my therapy last week I used this to describe my tinnitus to my mother when she asked about it thank you
I have a sound that is in my ear that sounds like you are standing in a tunnel and cars are driving over when I turn my head. It is kind of a warbling sound all the time. Like wahhwahhwahhwahh. You cam close but not quite there. I have an appointment with an audiologist in October. Interesting the white noise made my sound go away for a bit.
Thank you Doctor Ben for these tones! Mine is none of these 🥺😟 mine is high pitch hissing like bell 🔔 sound, it started w very low volume during my very very extreme ear ache period due to Eustachian tube dysfunction for exactly almost 3.5 months, each week got worse, first was like very small amount then increased, increased, when they did hearing tests, and incisions in both ear drums, I think caused it now became permanent 😢😢 very very unfortunate experience, and now I have extreme anxiety and fears, is just so scary! Most days I feel nausea due to anxiety because constantly worrying me get loud and constantly thinking ohh this time last year I had peace in my ears now I have this have to live w it😢 and I have an extreme chronic pain in one foot due to a very bad foot surgery the pain in foot from bottom and this from top of head I think my body is under attacks 😢😢😢😭pls Tell me is there hope 🙏🙏🙏♾🙌🏻🙌🏻🙏🙏🙏
I've had tinnitus since way back in childhood. It's always been there, so I thought it was normal. It always sounded like ringing/cicadas. But more recently, I started hearing a high pitched Morse code type of sound on top of it as well.. like tones/beeping. I also get the heartbeat pulsatile sound but only during a migraine attack/pulsating headache. Edit: I thought I may add... While I've had the tinnitus since childhood, I only started getting fullblown migraine attacks (with aura and pulsating headache) in my late twenties. (I may have had visual migraines without headache in childhood, though.) And my perception of the tinnitus gets louder during my migraine attacks or when I am sick with fever.
I hear 3 different sounds or I should say tones.1 is a very high pitched cicada sound.the tone on the right side is a 528hz frequency.im not yet understanding why there a varying 528hz tones tho.i recognize only 1.the other tone is also very high pitched and on the left side.there are quite a few unexplainable phenomenon happening along with my tones.ive had the tones fir as long as I can remember.the "happenings"have only begun within the last 6 months.i call them happenings bc I don't know what else to describe yhem as.thank you for giving me more insight.my search continues...
#1, except when in a quiet room, I can hear the pitch change. All of the changes in pitch are all high, sharp, and clear/crisp/clean. no buzzing or static just constant sharp ringing. I cannot recall when I first noticed I had this. I know for certain since H.S. in the 80's, thinking it was normal and everyone has this. 🤣
Close to ocean roaring with a slight hint of puls. Had it for a few years with rising intensity. One ear and it starts and stops with movement, stress and if its quiet. I cant hear anything when it starts so its often impossible to have an normal conversation, see a movie or listen to music. Had a specialist look at it and got back that the ear looks okay, possible loss of the 10hz spectrum but close to normal. The only solution I found is intense body training. Getting the puls up gives me about an hour or two of peace that feels like a lifetime. Stretching or holding my nose to decompress my ears with air helps to for a few minutes. For a strange reason it makes my tinnitus ear sound like a dog toy. My friends tells me that what I have is impossible, kinda depressing. So i finally youtubed my problem and found this short clip. I feel for all of you that have tinnitus.
I have 1 and 2 together, left and right ear, in my head, one tone a bit lower than the other. It's very loud and disturbing when I have a lot of stress but manageable when stress lowers. So keep your cool, it helps.
I have like two variations number 1 and teapot sounding. But I played Bass in working bands for 25 years n I worked my trade 30 years. Sometimes I would have to jackhammer all week unfortunately 8 would roll up toilet paper for ear plugs . Which I still remember the high pitched chisel sounds off the concrete. I wish I would of turned down my Bass lol when band members would say your to loud . I still practice my Bass and love it. I wondering if it's making it worse but I practice lower moderate sound. Ty for your time.
Mine is a bit of a mix of some of these - I have a high tone, but it has a bit of fuzziness to it (or below it?) that sounds bit like the soft static noise. Sometimes the high note also sounds like it "goes in and out", almost like an irregular pulsing. Funny how I've experienced this my whole life and only recently realized it was tinnitus
OMG....Mine has been no joke 5 of those...constant sound, different variations throughout every minute of every waking hour since childhood...I think it's always been there
I've always had the high pitch ringing...different tones at different times, all high pitched. Apparently I've got the hissing, the tea kettle, the crickets and cicadas overwhelm even outside noise sometimes..like a pressure in my head determines the volume...I thought it was normal, I thought everybody had it, I didn't know it was a thing until adulthood
My tinnitus is a combination of the 'Jet Engine',but with several high pitched whistles in unison and could also be likened to the so-called '5 Khz Square Wave'. I have lived with this all my life and was genuinely surprised that other people didn't have this. I thought it was 'normal' to have this.
I have something similar for the last few months just started, its a high hiss close to the tea kettle only my right ear only but sort of higher octaves like you say in unison sort of square wave. Sometimes I take a nap and wake up with a different sound jet noise in the back of my head for both ears, it can last for a day then it settles back to the square wave only in my right ear. Horrible.
Mine is a combination of ringing, kettle and jet, very loud, never stops. Sometimes a very load clicking sound occurs - over and above the usual sound - which lasts from a few minutes to nearly an hour.
I was a tree trimmer and gardener in the 70s and 80s. So I've had it since about 78-80. It's like crickets but a more solid constant ring. Sometimes it gets very loud but mostly it's barable and in the background but always there.
I noticed the electric hissing sound a few months ago, I thought it came from my home appliances etc😂, I also googled later on and thought maybe my brain is connected to the frequency of the universe 😂 . It does not bother me unless I start to listen to it. Most of the time, i didn’t even know it exists especially when I am focus on other things. I may have had this tinnitus for a long time, only starting to notice it now.
I always hear crickets, cicadas and other summer sounds. The weirdest sound is a trolling bird sound that sounds like it's in a cave. It even has stereo panning in each ear. It sucks that I'm never in silence.
Mine is the loudest I think that it’s ever been today. I suffered from a really bad concussion when I was 19 (I’m 62 now). I worked at a grocery store and a shoplifter tried to run me over. I jumped on her hood and she took of with me on the hood. She was driving extremely fast, so I just let go and rolled off. The back of my head felt soft, my neck very sore and painful, I felt sick to my stomach as well as very dizzy. My ears were ringing and they haven’t stopped since. A second concussion likely didn’t help matters. We were driving through a mountain pass in Washington state and some elk jumped up immediately in front of us (we were in a VW bus - so no engine in front). My brother was driving, and I was the passenger. One of the elk was struck squarely in front of me. Both my brother and I were strapped in but regardless our heads and top torsos went through the windshield. 6 men were required to pry me out. I’m lucky to simplynn
I could not hear the ringing sound at all! I could hear the other nine. I was taking a medication that was new to me and had side effects, including ringing in the ears. When I stopped the medication, all side effects subsided except ringing ears, headaches, and balance issues when walking. The sound most similar to what I'm experiencing is static, but at a higher pitch. Thanks for the demonstration.
Great video Dr. Thompson. I am a bit surprise how many different sounds tinnitus has. I am not sure if in this video we are suppose to hear only the sounds we hear. I hear 5 of them with the static noise being the overpowering one. Thanks for your video.

Hello Maria!
I had number 1. It was horrible! Started in May 2018. I thought my life was over. Little by little, I habituated. Today, I barely hear it. I no longer have any distress from it. You can get better.
Glad to hear that, mines not on the list it usually occurs when I move my jaw it’s hard to describe the sound. And im only 14😞

I hope that everyone of you who battles with tinnitus beats it; one way or another ❤
Hi how’d you change the way you slept because I think I have a similar issue because my pillows are a little flat and uncomfortable at times
Update [2 months later]
I have made a 70% recovery❤️ Guys if you have a busy life or you’re always stressed and overstimulated try to remind me yourself to relax once in a while and I’m telling you, everyone can recover from tinnitus you just have to ignore it and it’ll gradually go away in a few days/weeks

My tinnitus is my noise machine.

❤️
Be carefull driving with earplugs on
@@cryptonian7706 Always a good suggestion, but I don't think he meant he was driving with them, just that he was sitting in his car, because it was completely silent (unlike a home with the heater or fridge coming on, etc), & being able to listen & hear his tinnitus.
I do this too and it goes away and actually makes me calm😊
I have had this since I was a child. Some times loud, some times quite and, sometimes the pitch changes. I always thought it was normal. That it was the "sound of silence" until my early teens when I asked my mom why the silence was so loud sometimes. I had to explain and off to the doctor who said I had nothing. Too expensive of a Dr.'s visit to be told I was trying to get attention. Never seeked medical help since, but sometimes I feel like I am going crazy.
Mine is the first example. A Houston Specialist ENT told me there was nothing we could do. You have given me some hope. Thank you
How are you doing?
Really need that update
definitely number 1. I had to replay it several times at high volume because my tinnitus was drowning it out.
Same here. I could even hear it at all, heard all the other ones. So I went back numerous times, and its identical, guess thats why I didnt register it.
Me too! I had to listen to it full volume to actually hear it.
How are you now?
That's nuts, I didn't expect to hear a spot-on representation of the sound I hear all the time! Electrical Noise sounds almost identical to what I hear all the time. Thanks for sharing :)
Mine too but only in 1 ear

For evry1 in panic out there . know that if u stop stressing it will go away eventualy ALSO many many times tis caused from the jaw muscles being too tight. Etiher from clenching ur jaws at sleep or during the day and guess what... thats cause ur stressed and u dont realise it ;) So chill ignore it reduce ur stress and ur gona be fine
Thanks for the tip, Highland! :)
How has it been? Did it get better?
You're welcome, Graham! Be well. :)

It will improve if u relax. Its an anexiety symtom. . Ur jaw mascules might be tight during sleep etc

I m having tinnitus, vertigo and SNHL hearing loss which is progressive......IS THERE ANY HOPE ...PLZ SUGGEST

Number 1 for sure! It is exactly the tone I hear because when it started, it matched what I hear so well, I didn't know it had started! Freaky!!!
Mine is the high-pitched ringing. It also moves around. Sometimes, it's right on my ear. Other times, it's centered more inside my brain.
I want to ask you something
I have tinnitus in my right ear. and often I can also hear it in my left ear
Is that possible? i have tinnitus since april 2022
I have to tell you since I had an ear infection and during that ear infection I heard a soft sound
and it is still there now
the ear infection started on January 13
where I was prescribed ear drops by the GP assistant
but it didn't work later in the week my ear was suddenly closed and I went back to the doctor and then I got ear drops for the 2nd time and on February 6 I went to the ENT doctor and he saw that my left ear was still inflamed was restless and received ear drops from the ENT doctor
so I'm really terrified that I now have tinnitus in my left ear as well
I have about 4 different tones at all times, highs and lows, extremely loud: ringing, jet engine and tea kettle mixed with 'tinny' sounding pitches.

I think this flicking noise goes on throughout the day and is just below the level of hearing, but I think it maybe causes exhaustion. I'm also extra sensitive to noise, and loud noises like sirens and alarms actually hurt. A noisy day will exhaust me for sure.
Tell your doctor, especially hearing the heart beat and pressure. It could be malformed blood vessels in your brain.
@@drewred5744 that's mine aswell. Hard to describe and none of the sounds he played are like mine. Low hum, droneing sound like waves.
I have the ringing sound. It is amazing that my tinnitus sound is so common, I was afraid I was the only one who had this experience. Thanks Dr.Ben, I really appreciate you!! I subscribed to your channel!!

Thank you for letting us know that, Quaye. Yes, you can actually get better with Tinnitus and I'm glad you feel better now.
No offense but for those like me who've had it for many years and tried pretty much everything without success, it feels like hope is gone, I'd managed to live with it before but after a long sickness the noise has gone much louder. once I had #1 , that ringing, after a real sound injury, combined with cold air and constant stress of many months long.
Thanks
I can hear both ocean roaring and heart beating voice
It sounds peaceful
Same. And it is far from peaceful.
Guys mine is the same and I feel like I’ll never get used to it.
Mine has always sounded like ringing/cicadas.. but I recently started getting this Morse code type sound on top of it as well.
Same here.. like a tapping sound no specific rhythm .

It gets worse when my other long covid symptoms are worse - especially with insomnia and migraines (ironically I’m more sound than light sensitive with migraines … so migraines makes tinnitus worse which makes a migraine worse…. )
I’m learning to use tinnitus as an early warning system for when I need to take a work break.
So sorry same w covid this spring...tinnitis takes the cake for LC symptoms!
Same.. i loose my balance..

And what i hate is that it’s probably my fault. I listened to music on my headphones and earbuds so loud for about 3 years, and didn’t take care of my ears. I’m 13, and I wish I didn’t do this to my ears. Please take care of ur ears everyone!!

It comes and goes depending on the day, weather, mood, etc.. it is annoying to say the least, but it is not something I cannot deal with..I didn't realize there were so many different sounds.. Thanks for the video...
Mine is 1:29 Electrical Noise and it is so hard to ignore!!!
My tinnitus is different from everything here!
What did you hear?
Lmao mine too
It sounds like someone shove down in my ear an subwoofer and turned it on at 30HZ but it oscilates

Mine is a mixture of the last two (whooshing and Ocean) but I’ve had hearing tests done and they said everything is fine. Still annoying as heck though. Especially when I’m tired or irritated.
Yes, my hearing test was fine too.

Head trama as a child
Best way to describe it is a pulsating electrical noise. Almost like whoshing but with the added pulsation
The first one, ringing.
Mine sounds like an Ocean.
Is it just me or i cant hear the 1st one
Just you, I always hear it
It’s a fairly high frequency so if you have hearing loss you may not be able to hear it
Close to ocean roaring with a slight hint of puls.
I hear different levels of frequency all the time and my heart beat sometimes.😬
Hey I’m only 15 I hear something like crickets and ringing it’s been going on for about 2 weeks is there any chance this will go away?
Yes there is a good chance it will go back to normal or near normal.
max how is your ear now?
I cant find the sound in real life, I listened so much videos of tinnitus sounds and nothing is similar to the sound that I hear:c
Relatable, have a nice day.
Mine sounds like hundreds of cicadas buzzing in my head very high pitched 24/7 for over 25 years! I am going nuts!
Horrible.
Yes, the number 1 and the cicadas!! I'm crying because I thought I was going mental then I see this video and it's real!!!!
Mine is a combination of ringing, kettle and jet, very loud, never stops. Sometimes a very load clicking sound occurs - over and above the usual sound - which lasts from a few minutes to nearly an hour.
Mine is a combination. Sounds like the ringing and jet engine with a little bit of hissing tea kettle and some cicadas too
I was a tree trimmer and gardener in the 70s and 80s. So I've had it since about 78-80. It's like crickets but a more solid constant ring. Sometimes it gets very loud but mostly it's barable and in the background but always there.
Holy crap the first one is spot on, its less noticeable in the day, started having it several years ago, got used to it.
Ringing for sure, at events and certain frequencies I get a cracking that's almost like the ocean waves with a fire crackling noise.
