    This is the first of the SFP Tacticalish/ Huntingish MPVO's Ive fully reviewed. There is a market out there for optics like this, I know there is. If there wasnt then no one would buy them, and companies wouldnt be making them still. With a few minor tweaks it would start to make more sense to me. But if your a owner of one of these, how do you find them to be?

    I’ve had this scope on a rifle for a year now and give it a solid B+. Not everyone understands the market for this scope. In hunting you don’t need FFP. 90% of shots come inside 100 yards and no one needs to dial anything inside 200. For that occasional 400-600 yard shot, you’re going to be on 15x anyway. ALSO, because it is 2nd FP the reticle stays the same size which is much more useful for hunting. It also weighs and costs less than if it were FFP. The only negative I have is that the image has some distortion around the edges at 2.5X. This doesn’t really affect the ability to see a target but is a distraction when panning at low magnification.
    I find 2.5X much more useful ina hunting scope than 15x, so I prefer this over any of the 3-15x models. At this price range, who else makes a quality scope with a good reticle, turrets, maginification, and reasonable weight? Maybe Swamp Fox KYLR? BTR2?There’s not much competition.

    I have the regular Credo 2.5-15x42 on an 18" that I took to Ridgeline for a scoped carbine course last year. I had no trouble with the SFP reticle and we had courses with targets 100 to 700 yds. At the lower perimeter of the reticle Trijicon gives cheat multipliers for several different magnifications. Since you have to learn your reticle whether SFP or FFP, it seems more a temperament or brain-aesthetic difference. I own both FFP and SFP scopes and can use either, and I tend to like FFP at higher magnifications because at lower mags usually the reticle is too small or too defined-in-detail for my eyesight/brain to make use. The simple mil-hash ladder of the Credo works a charm for me.
    As to illuminated reticle -- the internet's bench racers need to shut their gobs about illumination on MPVO or HPVO needing to be "daylight bright." It's a riflescope not an RDS. It's used differently. Anyone who insists they need daylight bright 1x and they're using a scope that begins at 2x or greater the solution is very clear. Add an offset or piggyback RDS. Don't demand the scope be something it cannot be.

    This was a completely unfair review. The vertical mis alignment is designed to be flawed to tell you that you should only be using the cross hairs at the center. The poor image quality at max magnification is purposely built to inform you that you shouldn’t be taking shots at 1,000 yards. It’s also worth noting that the fish eye image seen on the curved telephone pole is most likely due to the gravitational pull of the cosmos. This cosmic effect only happens when using this scope. I also thought that it was completely ridiculous to compare this great scope to scopes that have better performance and better features for less money!

    Trijicon is one of those companies that seems to be about 10 years behind the curve but they sell for current day premiums. They are just running on clout at this point. Pretty wild how an acog is still 1600 dollars msrp tbh

    I have the non HX version of this scope. While I would have preferred an FFP, the weight of the Credo was a benefit to the build I put it on. I got it on sale but may have pick a different option if it was full price. Also, in all honesty, I'm using this at either max or min magnification. So, I don't have a problem with the SFP reticle. It does fisheye at 2.5, like you pointed out. The clarity at 15x on mine doesn't drop off much at all. It's noticeably better at the upper end than two Athlon BTR's (gen 1 and 2) I had on hand. But, this is based on a sample of one.

And I just got a Viper PST Gen II 3-15x44 and I gotta say the Viper was damn good and I only paid $530 for it cause it was a display unit. I feel like the 44mm objective tube makes it so much more usable at all ranges. The reticle is the EBR2C milrad. Could not pass it up at that price. Highly recommend.

    I saw the tenmile 3-18 ffp in mil or moa is sub 900 at opticsplanet currently. I have a Bergara Ridge 7 rem mag bolt rifle that needs a scope and it'd honestly probably be a secondary hunting rifle or something to dabble with shooting further (500yd or so). First setup is Tikka T3 30-06 with a Zeiss Conquest V4 3-12x44 with a plain jane duplex reticle. Kinda considering that Athlon to be honest

  • @mattfleming86

    At least with my sample, the absolute max 15x does fall apart but dialing it back just a fuzz makes the image very nice. The way I see it, if you have time to mill out targets the drop in image quality isint that big of a deal. Worth it go go from 2.5 all the way to 15.
    I treat the scope as a 3-12 that lets you turn it up to 11 both directions. You have the options- you hust get some extra distortion.
    I do wish it had the locking turrets. This one will eventually get moved from the lightweight SPR flavor gun over to my 308 bolt gun. It'll be perfect im that application in my part of the country.

  • @bobd8553
    @bobd8553 6 месяцев назад +3

    Great video, yes non locking is a huge issue for this hunter. I run the Trijicon Huron 3-9X40 for a very basic hunting optic. Optically there are much better options, at 9x it looks like someone smeared vaseline on the lens,it’s that bad. But I chose Trijicon for durability and the ability to hold zero after dropping and impacts, which is most important for a field optic.

    • @seanoneil277
      @seanoneil277 6 месяцев назад

      Just a little bit more $$ for the Credo 3-9x40, and it's fine at 9x at dusk. I've experienced lower-cost glass that goes wonky at higher mag and/or lower light, what you describe. Never looked through the Huron but I own the Credo and I like shooting at dusk/twilight. I'd bet that Huron is fine throughout daylight hours even if a bit smeary at 9x.

    Non-locking turrets is an instant no go for me for a hunting optic. I took a "tactical" scope with non locking turrets to a hunting trip and my rifle got knocked over and the windage must have shifted and I didn't notice. There's a good chance that caused me to miss a shot on a deer. Yes I should have been paying attention. But I was rushed to head out of camp and get to the field. I'll only use capped or locking turrets from now on.
