What you're talking about at around 21 minutes is exactly what im thinking about as a match designer. I want people to have a great overall experience, not just a challenging task. Each year it becomes a little harder because my goal is to always improve the stages. One thing that always limits us is making the stages safe, logistically viable and fast to reset. Additionally the setup has to be robust enough to handle 100 competitors without breaking or drastically changing the conditions. But looking at that v-tac baricade stage i must agree with you, it just seemed too simple. Could be done better with some imagination and a couple of extra range props...
Huge fan of your channel! I run very small matches by comparison, but still understand what you are saying. However you can still find something that everyone enjoys, and just throw minor twists on it. Myself and everyone I was with was really looking forward to the Karsarda drill. Weve done it several times before but it didnt matter, we wanted it. There could be a change in target size, or hit quantity or terrain. Literally anything and we all would of been completely fine with it. But it wasnt there... I aim to have zero reset stages. Of course there are exceptions that are unavoidable. But if I can design a stage that operates 100% without human interaction. I am a very happy man. Vtacs are great when you dont have access to anything else. But they do have cars on site that could be used as a prop. Hell throw something together with drums and sticks, cinder blocks, hay blocks, anything.. Im rambling now. I just expected a little more out of most of the match. The stage designs were pretty good all things considered, but the theater was missing. Rant over.
@@CDOES ah yes, the self reseting stages :D We are always forced to use as much self reseting designs as possible as we are very limited with time. Par time is usually 180 seconds and then we only have 120 seconds planned to do a full reset and start with the next shooter. This becomes harder with more complicated stages but we try to solve it by hiring more ROs and helpers. We're just making it harder for ourselves by trying to make better stages each year but as i see it, that's kind of the point
InRange ran the match, One Shepherd just ran the MILES stage. But if you want more force on force with a leadership focused aspect, One Shepherd is the place to go.
Couldn’t agree more about the match/stages not feeling as “cool” as in the past. Trench was great, team based miles was great but otherwise it didn’t feel the same. Combined with spending 4 midnight stages mostly attempting to shoot through my smoke cloud and I went home with the same feeling you described regarding going a 4th year.
Hey C, love your videos! Any chance of a review on the mk4hd 2,5-10? Am looking at one now and would love to see if the ffp is usable at lowest mag for short range on fox etc. Thank you for your videos and keep up the good, work!
I've also wondered about the future of the US brutality matches. The physicality has been increasingly toned down and the stages simply aren't as challenging/creative as the match fee would lead you to expect. High Desert was pretty great, but CQB was incredibly disappointing. It seems like Woodland is continuing this downward trend. Not only are the stages less interesting, but not providing a match shirt is just another slap in the face and a waste of good marketing. I've attended local matches with match shirts, included lunches, trophies, random prize tables and more for 1/3 the cost. I really came to like the people I've met at brutality matches, but the folks running the match see any form of constructive criticism as a personal attack and close ranks. I hope something changes with the direction of these matches going forward.
We had to tone down the physicality after staff match this year unfortunately--we had trouble getting the people through the course of fire, staff midnight actually only finished 3 of 4 stages before running into the 2am hard stop. Lot of work behind the scenes trying to balance physical and marksmanship challenges while still making it possible to complete the stages.
@@sithanas I'm sure y'all worked hard on this, but I hope something changes. Many of the folks I know who've been attending brutality matches have been finding that they're getting too expensive and the quality of the stages/overall experience is declining. These simply aren't stages that are worth 20x (or even 4x) those of a local match.
@@sithanasIs it mostly the same staff as previous years? Nothing you say explains why it's declining over time. Unless it's the same staff getting old and unfit. It's kind of sad to see Brutality of all things following the trajectory of SASS.
24:06 "For $1000 the S&W competitor is hard to beat..." For $850 you can get the steel frame Canik and I assure you--it is absurdly good. I only have the polymer one but even as is the poly Canik Rival has a trigger that (no pun intended) rivals 2011's and especially so if you get a Freedomsmith trigger shoe. Yes, its turkish. But its reliable and it freaking rules. I highly recommend the Canik Rival. I'm probably going to pickup a steel frame Rival this summer and try that too but for now I will just say that I've shot one and it is phenomenal bang for the buck assuming it works as well as my polymer frame has. I'm close to 10,000 rounds on my polymer Canik and I've honestly had one malfunction in that time but it was Norma bulk 9mm and it was also jamming up really badly in my Glocks so I just don't buy Normal bulk 9mm anymore. That ammo is trash. I really thought I was taking a risk when I bought it. I was worried it was all influencer hype and that it would fall apart. It has been every bit as good as people say it is.
Hi C! I have a question for you. Which version of Safariland holster is that? Specifically what model number? A link would be ideal. I ask because I specifically have almost that exact same setup you have. I love my S&W Competitor. I run a TLR1HL for a light. My only change is that I currently run a Trijicon RMR but I want to move to a Trijicon RMR HD sometime in the not so distant future. So it would be of sincere help to me to know which holster to get because I cannot figure out for the life of me which holster I need from Safariland on their website for my Competitor. I have a competition holster for the Competitor but I want a retention holster for it for duty and tactical work as well. Thanks!
@@CDOES Thank you for the response! Is it publicly available? I don't see it anywhere on your channel. Or if it is there, it's not immediately obvious to me. The only holster videos I see are about the CZ P10C (which is another great pistol for what it's worth).
Makes you wonder why those local clubs can put on a $25 dollar 2-gun match (open to the public) every month. A video discussing / questioning the economics of this would be interesting to watch.

@mariodcreatorgaming8236 I 2 that. If it's not reviewed here, it's not on the table

Same here
I’m looking at running a ruger ranch 16” 308 at next years brutality match. It was nice to see your setup putting in work
Are you intentionally dressed like Cpt. Price
Yes he is

Way to absolutely crush those stages. Hopefully I can make it next year.
Glad you got to make friends with Mr Jingles!
Thanks Russ! Mr Jingles isnt THAT bad. Hes just a bit wayward.
