  • Welcome to Pour Decisions with Candace!
Each week we’re going to go deep into those burning awkward questions you might be too afraid to ask - like tackling real life awk moments, dating stuff, weird body issues, how to be an “adult” and everything in between - and, I’ll give you advice in what I think is my truest form… under the influence, obviously. I’m not officially qualified for this, but you can trust me. I’m here to be your own personal, brutally honest and unfiltered Google so you don’t have to sift through weird Reddit threads. Believe me, I’ve been there. And we’re going to get through it all together!
Plus I'm going to have on some of my favorite people, your favorite people, everyone's favorite people as guests to help me get through it, so please let us know in the comments below what and who you'd like to see on upcoming episodes.

A lot of people say that overprotective parents have their behaviors out of love, etc. and usually that's true. Sometimes, however, a parent might also have other motives. Sometimes a parent gets caught up in being a parent and gets a bit too strict when they forget that going out with friends is important for young people.
When I first got together with my fiance, my mother changed quite a bit. She got even more protective, strict, angry, bitter, etc. My father left us when I was 2 after telling my mom that he wanted a family, so I really believe that she thinks I am going to be tricked like she was or that all men will do the same thing, though she has never given me a straight answer. She assumed that I couldn't make my own decisions or accurately judge a boy, often saying that I was "blinded by love." He and I have been together for almost 5 years now, longer than most people our age, and have a very positive and strong relationship. So joke's on her.
Clearly parents want what they think is the best for us, but they forget that by a certain age we are aware of our own feelings and have the capacity for both self control following what we think is best for ourselves. They forget that we grow up and have to be given the chance to be independent. Sometimes this leads to young people who are sheltered too long and have an even harder time adjusting to reality when their parents finally let them go.
Sometimes YOU need to give that extra push by going out anyway to show nothing bad will happen, scheduling your own driving test, or even moving out. If you want to be taken seriously by a parent like this, you have to show that you are "about that life" or they will just keep calling your bluff. I'm not saying go extreme like underage drinking , racing cars, drugs, or suicide, but if you're really ready to start being independent then you will know what is appropriate. If you try to do any of these things it will just make your overprotective parent even more set in their ways by proving their fears about you making your own choices. That is the opposite of what we want!

    Important for all y'all:
Just because you have social anxiety doesn't mean you're an introvert. Same goes the other way around.
