Now it's been re-uploaded with new footage due to a recent surge of demand. - A lot of people ask why the defenders hold hands. There's actually several reasons: - To trap the raider by cutting off potential escape routes. - To pull on their partner if they've been touched so that they know to tackle the raider. - To form a chain to corral the raider out of position or into areas that they're not comfortable operating. - To ensure their partner does not step out of bounds.
Hi Alexander. No, once a raider is finished, he retreats back (or is out) and then the other team send a raider of their own into the other half, as explained in the video.
Just so people aren't confused when watching one of the modern-day professional Kabaddi games, I would add that the chanting "Kabaddi" continuously rule isn't really enforced, but rather 30 seconds is given for each raid. Chanting while exhaling without inhaling was a way to time things back in olden times, but now that Timers and Stopwatches are a thing, the rule isn't really enforced.
In professional leagues like the Pro Kabaddi League, yes it's 30 seconds per raid. But this game was invented in a time before stopwatches and quite a lot of teams still play whilst chanting Kabaddi, regardless of technology.

Great explanation! It's a lot to take in but I think I have the gist of it, so thanks for making the video! Came here after I noticed there's an anime called Shakunetsu Kabaddi coming out in spring 2021.

Questions: 1. Can the defenders tackle the raider even without the raider touching one of the defenders first? 2. Can the raider reach for the mid line with one of his/her limbs after he/she is tackled and pinned down on the floor? 3. Rules on stepping over lines. For examples: Are there penalties for a defender who steps over the lobby or the back line to avoid being touched by the raider? Are there penalties for a raider who steps over the lobby? Are there penalties for a raider who steps over the mid line by accident? Does he forfeit his raiding turn or "dies and goes to the box" if he hasn't even touch the bulk line? 4. What is the clock that is ticking down from like 28 seconds? Is there a time limit on how long each raid can take? Are there penalties if a raider doesn't return to the mid line in time? 5. You say the raider must touch "as many" defenders as he can. Does that imply he can score multiple points in a raid by touching multiple defenders plus maybe stepping over the bonus line when there are enough people? 6. If a raider can score multiple points by touching multiple defenders, then what if multiple defenders tackle the raider and he still makes it back to the mid line? Does that count as multiple touches? Can you lose multiple defenders in one raid? 7. There must be some rules on what you cannot physically do to opposing players. Can you give some examples on some common illegal moves?
Thanks for stopping by. 1) Yes. 2) Yes. 3) a) Defenders must stay within the area of play until one of them has been touched. If one has been touched, they are allowed to force the raider out and therefore leave the area of play. b) Raider must be in the area of play at all times. Any infraction of these rules and the offending player is out. c) Once a defender crosses the midline, he is a raider and will be treated as such. If he then steps back into his own half, the raid is over. 4) In some Pro Kabaddi tournaments, they don't require players to chant Kabaddi, they just time 30 seconds instead. 5) Yes, exactly that. 6) Yes, this counts as multiple touches and you can lose multiple defenders - especially if they try and tackle the raider and he goes over the midline. 7) There are, most of them include not striking with the fist or head, no pulling of hair or clothes, no biting, eye gouging, fish hooking all the dirty stuff. But other than that, it's kinda like rugby tackling. Hope that helps?
There is a raider called Pardeep Narwal who scored 8 points in a single raide that includes 6 touch points + 2 all out points. He is currently the king of pro kabaddi and called as record - breaker
The Burning Kabaddi Anime's first looked like a basketball anime to me then I as I looked at it closer and read the description, I realized that I was wrong HAHAHAHA. Lesson learned: Don't judge based on looks specially if the object is seen from afar.
there is going to be a new anime series. i never heard of this sport so i thought i'd research the sport for a minute. seems very interesting. these game rules are wild! what a wildly bizarre game.
When in school we used to play this in mud ground, barefoot, now it's synthetic surface, boy do I miss the distractions, taunts, banters, thigh slaps.. Kirr was another of our favourite sport..
I'm really trying to think about it, but I can't remember of any other sport like this one: Kabaddi is (at least I believe) the only team field sport that doesn't uses a ball... (someone please correct me if I'm wrong) Very smart and original game indeed!
There are another sport named Kho Kho from India which is also very tactical and dont needs any kind of ball, actually there are 2-3 more games like this in India.
Actully love this channel. And i know its something small but i love the way you say sliotar in hurling you pronuce it like slit and or really fast 💙💙💙
I'm sure many places around the world have a similar schoolyard game with this logic. We had this game where two teams split up, hold hands and form a line each, demand one person from the other as the "raider" during their turn. The raider would run towards the other team, trying to force his/her way through the human chain formed across the field, if s/he wins, they'd get one player for their team, if loses, joins the other. Of course the resemblance is only superficial, but I remembered those memories immediately upon seeing this video.
This is a good Sport! You don't need any equipment, really. I am very surprised it is not played anywhere else. Lots of little boys would enjoy this sport very much, and at the same time it is a very fun spectator sport to watch when it is played at the adult level.

Finally, I watch this sport, but never got it, I knew of the old video but I couldnt watch it for some reason. Now, finally I get it!!! Thank you man!!! Only thing though, why they always holding hands??? Hahahaha, didnt get that part
Eduardo Jimenez holding hands enables them to form a net of sort in which they can better nab the raider. Otherwise, there is a risk of raider escaping through cracks if defenders are not holding hands
Thanks Eduardo, glad this video could help you understand Kabaddi. As well as 'Shri Kesari's comment, it also enables defenders to pull on their partner know they've been touched, so that they can help bring them down before they get back to the mid-line. Hope that helps?
I've watched this video months before Ozzy's and then came back to review the rules :D BTW Ninh Ly's sports videos are really cool, you may like to check around here ;)

4:34 Personally I actually found the sport to be very intuitive. Some of the rules seem wonky, but I think that can probably be said of any gamified sport (i.e., balks in baseball, the definition of a catch in football, and so on)
Looks fun! Kinda like a mix of tag and dodgeball without the ball Haha awesome
Yeah, it's interesting for sure.
Great explanation! It's a lot to take in but I think I have the gist of it, so thanks for making the video! Came here after I noticed there's an anime called Shakunetsu Kabaddi coming out in spring 2021.
Yes, apparently there's a new anime with that in it.
Thanks!
Already watched it. Glad to know some people heard about it.
Kabbadi used to be shown on the TV in the UK. It's a great spectator sport and you get right into it!
Yes, Channel 4 if I'm not mistaken!
Well for people who are really interested in this game. They recently started this year's season of Pro Kabaddi in India.
Absolutely, yes!
@Farid Ahmed Pro Kabaddi is like IPL of Kabaddi.
one of the most underrated sports in the world.
Enjoyed this. Refreshed my dim memories of the rules from when kabaddi was on Channel 4 in the late 80s/early 90s. Very clear and easy to follow explanations.
The tackles are similar to how we play sharks and minnows on fun days at wrestling practice, looks like great fun
Basically yes, the premise is the same!
Very cool. Thank you very much, for a long time I've been trying to understand this sport.
Thanks man, glad you find this video helpful!

I'd always wondered if you had done a video on this sport. The first mention I found of Kabaddi was in one of the "Schott's Miscellany" books.
I did a few years ago, it got taken down by Star Sports. I initially fought this and lost.
I've remade it with some newer footage, but I have a sneaky suspicion that Star Sports might claim this again.
We'll have to wait and see.
Thanks ninh ly for kabbadi episode kabbadi is great sport very popular in india Bangladesh pakistan and wherever an indian lives great narration nice explained
Thanks Sachin, I appreciate that.
Be sure to share this video and subscribe :)
I have already subcribed you and watched all your video
Ah cool, thanks for watching my stuff!
Kabaddi is Awesome!! Can't wait to play this at my local church !!
If you want?
Good job Ninh! After like 2 years you are finally able to re upload your Kabaddi vid that got taken down
Yeah, I manged to get some new footage ... but we'll have to wait and see.
Coming soon: Ninh explains the rules of Not Getting Videos Taken Down.
I'm probably not the best guy to give advice on that!
@@NinhLyUK You are! After all, experience makes us more enlightened!
What a amazing game to play with buddy , real physical, strategy and mad mad fun
Thanks for re-uploading this man I’ve missed this video 😊
Yeah sorry it took so long. Lt's just hope Star Sports doesn't file another bullshit copyright request.
Ninh Ly hahah yeah let’s hope. It’s ok man I know how long it takes for you to make these don’t sweat 😊👍🏻❤️
I appreciate that bro, thanks!
This was awesome! Thank you for your tutorial. Looking for matches to watch right after this!
Cool, thanks Adri - glad you found this tutorial helpful.

The 7th season pro kabaddi league will kick off on july 20 2019. It'll be fun! Don't worry about getting lost as the commentators repeat the rules of the game from time to time( in english)
Match is after 3 days pro kabaddi league, download hotstar app from playstore
for once You Tube got it right, thank you for making this video, hope this sport comes to America
Thanks bro.
I've just begun watching an Anime about this sport and this video is a good introduction.
Questions:
1. Can the defenders tackle the raider even without the raider touching one of the defenders first?
2. Can the raider reach for the mid line with one of his/her limbs after he/she is tackled and pinned down on the floor?
3. Rules on stepping over lines. For examples:
Are there penalties for a defender who steps over the lobby or the back line to avoid being touched by the raider?

I saw a short video that mentioned Kabaddi, but didn't explain it. Thank you! I appreciate your explanation.
who’s here bc you wan watch that anime
The Burning Kabaddi Anime's first looked like a basketball anime to me then I as I looked at it closer and read the description, I realized that I was wrong HAHAHAHA. Lesson learned: Don't judge based on looks specially if the object is seen from afar.
That show gave me Diarrhoea
I am addicted to this sport !!!! It's more fun to watch than you think.
there is going to be a new anime series. i never heard of this sport so i thought i'd research the sport for a minute. seems very interesting. these game rules are wild! what a wildly bizarre game.
This started in Brisbane Australia. I play rugby and this looks like fun. Maybe I make some friends from different cultures.
Wait was that meant literally when you said touching the bonus line has to be done “with one foot in the air”?
Yes
Yes bro
Only time I ever was confused after watching one of your videos still loved it
When in school we used to play this in mud ground, barefoot, now it's synthetic surface, boy do I miss the distractions, taunts, banters, thigh slaps.. Kirr was another of our favourite sport..
Excellent video. This is the best description of the rules that I have come across.
I'm really trying to think about it, but I can't remember of any other sport like this one: Kabaddi is (at least I believe) the only team field sport that doesn't uses a ball... (someone please correct me if I'm wrong)
Very smart and original game indeed!
Yes, this was invented in a time before balls and clocks. Hence this.
Honest mistake, read the top comment.
But thanks.
Whos here for the new anime
I’m came here because I just saw Yamazaki playing it on Gintama. Now I fell like looking into this new anime.
Whats the anime name
@@dr.sujathat9940 name:Burning kabaddi , coming soon ,
@@dr.sujathat9940 and it will start in April 3rd
Me
I'm sure many places around the world have a similar schoolyard game with this logic.
Yes, we had something similar in England.
Who else came here after the anime being announced
An anime on Kabaddi recently got an adaptation - Burning Kabaddi (2021).
It aired prior to the Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympics.
This is a good Sport! You don't need any equipment, really. I am very surprised it is not played anywhere else. Lots of little boys would enjoy this sport very much, and at the same time it is a very fun spectator sport to watch when it is played at the adult level.
Pretty much, yeah. And I think girls play this game too.

I stumbled over Kabaddi last year and can't understand why it's not popular outside of Asia. It's a great sport combining so many different aspects.
We play this game with kids at work and we tell them it’s a professional sport and now I actually know the rules 😂
Awesome! Well done for accidentally stumbling upon a sport!
Shri Kesari thank you for the claring it up, I like watching it, specially now that I can understand it more
Thanks Eduardo, glad this video could help you understand Kabaddi.
As well as 'Shri Kesari's comment, it also enables defenders to pull on their partner know they've been touched, so that they can help bring them down before they get back to the mid-line. Hope that helps?
Eduardo Jimenez Also Asian men don’t consider holding hands as ‘gay’ unlike Americans.😂😂😂
ruclips.net/video/fZRVeG3xx68/видео.html This should demonstrate it 😃
Ozzy Man brought me here. I like this sport.
Cool, thanks for stopping by.
Me 2... Had to find out what it was. Looks nice
Same
I've watched this video months before Ozzy's and then came back to review the rules :D
BTW Ninh Ly's sports videos are really cool, you may like to check around here ;)

This is like dodgeball mixed with all tackles one and tag. That’s actually awesome.
great video! Keep it up!
No replies bro 😂 btw im a subscriber
Thank you! Nice concise video. I'll be coming back to this
This is one of those sports that I wish was popular in Canada. I always see the Indian guys at the park in my city with their uniforms but I never knew the rules.
It's played in Canada amongst Indian communities. You never know, there might be a place close than you think?
@@NinhLyUK there's competitions in my city, but my city is one of the most Indian in the country haha
They must be punjabi?
@@covalentbond2093 yep, they are
@@aidanw9378 There are so many people from punjab there that we even call Canada "Punjab lite" haha.
Is it true that at some places on the direction boards the names are written in both English and Punjabi?
Thanks for reuploading this video.
Yeah sorry it took a while - trying to find decent footage that isn't owned by Star Sports is hard. And even this footage ... I think is owned by Star Sports. We'll just have to wait and see.
No worries. I was this, and probably many others, when ESPN had their ESPN The Ocho day a few weeks back. Actually found it really entertaining.
Might be my new favorite sport...
Yeah it's a cool sport to watch.
Its really a great video to easily understand the rules of kabaddi !
Good Job 👍

Wow.. quite a complicated little sport. Not a bad video though!
Thanks. It's not so bad once you get used to it. Actually a pretty cool game to watch.
Thank you so much for explaining the rules so clearly! I understand a little bit more now. :D
I love this channel
Thanks man, much appreciated!
Be sure to share this video and spread the word! :)
So a sport where size, strength and agility are very useful and it doesnt require any expensive equipment or courts. Looks like this would be a good addition to the sport curriculums for less funded schools.
Who is here from Ozzy Man Reviews
Only you for now.
The Ozzy Man Kabaddi army grows stronger
Me
Just watched it on ozzy man and thought this actually looks kind if fun.
Yep me too
Awesome video like usual, thank you very much.
Can you speak about the Jugger ? (Mix between fencing and rugby)
I've only been asked for that a few times. I don't see the demand for it personally.
Thanks for the suggestion though.
As a westerner a lot of these sports are kinda strange this one is not different in that respect. But! This looks amazing, I would have a go at if. Like tag, wrestling and football all in one. I like it!!
It's complicated, but very three dimensional and tactical. I think it's a great game and if you ever get a chance to try it, do so!
Lol 'westerner'
Ninhly will be doing our sport PELT/PELTBALL very soon👍
Pelt Ball Club the duck is peltball
I played kabadi when Iwas at school.it actually a very entertaining game .lots of fun with friends . It is also a pretty dangerous game.
