I’m going to organize a game on a field the size of Montana and the ball will be an ice hockey puck. I’m on the fence on whether the goals will be ghetto tires.
Ghetto tires, yes. But size of Montana ... I think you could only play this sport ... in Montana?!
@@NinhLyUK or a larger state, like Texas or Alaska.
@@NinhLyUK Rude.
Montana girl here.
How about a ping pong ball or golf ball across the us
@@butwhataboutemma really
This is actually a pretty ingenious stress evaluation tool for cadets. Since they haven't completed their basic training yet, strictly military evaluation isn't really useful, but by framing it as a sport, something all the participants have experience in on some level, you can create a scenario that yields useful results.
For example, if one of the players has a meltdown, with tears of frustration and rage running down their face, they're probably not ready to join the Air Force.
That's pretty much exactly why they use it.
It's torture under the guise of a 'sport'!
Ruben T its more of a game that encourages participation, the chaotic nature of the game can make it hard to read ball play for both people that do or don't play sports. Its a tool for confidence building.
@@Kingdo99aAnd team play.
“Stolen tire from your local ghetto” come on man!😄
That's in the rules. Not the ghetto bit, but they do say that you can use a tyre instead of a plywood goal.
@@NinhLyUK Is the bit about not swinging on said tire also on the rules?
Remember not to swing the tire, or else a foul will be called.
northend c-bus ohio be like
Just for the record, is this the first time you've actually appeared onscreen during your "Ninh Explains" videos?
Anyways, I think Fizzbin is easier to understand than this.
What about Calvinball?
That, too.
Welcome to America
Just for the record, I actually appear in a few of my videos. But yes, this is the first 'Rules of' video that features my face. Thanks bro.
Holy shit...FIZZBINN! But he can only explain it on a Wednesday.
lmao this was hilarious. I would play Flickerball, not gonna lie.
Each to their own I guess. Thanks though.
its actually pretty fun. I used to play it all the time
Ga1act1c it reminds me of handball
Bro I honestly would
If we all could get together to play this game I think we could make a professional flickerball team
Honestly I played flickerball in p.e. And I kind of liked it
Each to their own I guess.
Ninh Ly In my PE we score touchdowns not throw a ball through a goal
Yo me to but I just thought it was a made up sport.
also played flicker ball in PE once but it was with like teams of 3-4 and it was called something else but similar rules. it was fun
It’s super fun
In school we would really enjoy inventing or adapting sports, so I really love the idea of intentionally creating a sport with diabolical rules. Come to think of it, this looks fairly similar to a game we would play with a frisbee using two bins as goals...
It's a mish-mash of existing sports, designed to confuse people in order for them to work better as a team. So if you recognise various parts of this game, chances are you probably played them in another sport.
Ninh explains - the worst sport ever invented!
Special shout out to Spencer Kassimir for introducing me to this awful sport - so be sure to follow him on Twitter.
I hope you guys like this kind of video? If you do, give me a shout and I'll see if I can make more.
Ninh Ly im pretty sure nefarious . . . ummm . . . im just going to straight out say it. Im sure drugs were involved in the creation of this "game"
Hey Ninh I know there probably isn't a lot of demand for it but could you do a rules of catch wrestling
Rules of diving please
Ninh Pleasssssssssssssss explain tag pro
Thanks for the shout out Ninh! Loved the video and look forward to more "Ninh WON'T Explain" videos.

Haha i can’t believe you knew about this! I remember this torture when I was in the Air Force
Wasn't playing this game wonderful?!
Naaaaah!
Thanks bro, much appreciated!
Apparently Flickerball is mainly known to be a school sport (like dodgeball is, but more obscure). The Air Force doesn't even play it anymore. It was first played in 1951 at Davidson College, as an alternative to touch football, and actually remains a traditional sport of that school to this day.
Sounds like this sport is the real life incarnation of Calvinball
It probably is.
but Calvinball can never be played the same way twice...
That's why the rules are so messed up, Chomp Beaver.
Neither is this game ... obviously!
This doesn’t look too bad
Probably worse to play than watch.
At least if you're watching, you can heckle them!
Ninh Ly lol true
I think if it's played by civilians & some of the rules are standardized then it could become a decent sport.
Also they should be allowed to touch other players to steal the ball to make it bit competitive. Just passing around could get lame.
I currently have a friend going through Air Force training and he's never talked to me about this game. No wonder it hasn't caught on. Maybe I'll start a league for this and in the spirit of the game, make it as poorly run as possible.
I think the US Air Force has you beat on that if your friend has never heard of it! :P
The Orupturetan - This game is only played by cadets (future Officers) and by Officers going trough some advanced class. If your friend is not an Officer, must likely your friend would not be familiar with Flickerball.
@@xygnusx5067
False statement. I have seen military soldiers play this too plenty of times. It's a great way to get an ACL tear.
dinoripper123 - I, clearly, was talking about The Orupturetan's friend. I do not know what you have seen or not seen. One question; are you sure that the 'military soldiers' of which you speak are Enlisted members of the military and not Officers? Perhaps they are, for the most part (I have first hand knowledge of Enlisted member playing the game), Officers as I stated previously. Thusly, my comment to The Orupturetan stands. About your injury comment; I have played the game multitudinous times, you may have a point there. However, so it is playing numerous other sports. Have a great day.
@@xygnusx5067
Your attempts at sarcasm and condescending comments fall hilariously flat. As I stated before, enlisted as well as officers play this game. Saying only cadets and officers play is ill informed information. Just because you primarily only saw officers play doesn't mean you should make an overall generalization. And I have personally saw enlisted play with officers on numerous occasions. So your comment does not stand. Good day.
Thanks Five Points for this video!
I must admit, Fivepoints did a great job with his video. I just put my own twist on this thing.
Ninh Ly And I think you did a fantastic job! Nothing on youtube is original, it’s all about connecting with the viewer and your own style. Great work !
Ah, I appreciate that bro! Love your videos! :)
This is a dream come true
We used to play flickerball in my PE in high school but instead of having the hole goals we had end zones like football, and also did coin flips to decide first possesion and we played first to score 3 times
Told you it's not played consistently across America.
Ngl I like the regular videos they’re very interesting but I just like you shitting on a whole sport it’s pretty funny.
I'll try and make more, but they take a ton of effort to make. Thanks for the comment, much appreciated!
First time I have ever heard frustration and disgust in your voice. It is rather funny and entertaining.
I've expressed my disdain in other videos before, but yeah - this sport sucks.
@@NinhLyUK This gives me an idea to create my own game..... It will at least be better than this. lol
It won't be too difficult to make it better than this.
@@NinhLyUK Teams will have 10 men on the field at all times. Each team will have a total of 20 people on the roster. This game will be played on a football field. Each team will have 3 chances to score in the end zone. They can throw the ball forward but only 3 times per possession. After they are tackled 3 times, they give over the ball to the other team at the last spot the other team had it. If you get in the end zone that is 6 points. You can also throw threw the uprights for 1 point. If you pass the ball forward more than 3 times, your opponent will be awarded a point and the ball. Kicking the ball is not allowed. If you run out of forward throws, you can just lateral the ball to a teammate. After the second tackle you can throw it off to put your opponent in bad field position. Or you can go for a long field goal and throw it between the uprights for just 1 point. If you throw it off and the ball lands in your opponent's end zone that is a touchback and they will start their possession at their own 20 yard line. It is like Football and Rugby more focus on the arms and forward pass. I shall call it PALMBALL!!!!
I really enjoyed this video ninh. It's always cool to mix things up. You can even rip into sport you already explained the rules for.
Hi Jay. Thanks very much, I appreciate that. And I probably could ... but I've got some humdingers coming up!
At least it's not IRL quidditch. Yeah I said it come at me Potterheads
Gay ass potterheads lmfao
It's a toss up between the two, for sure!
I'm with you. I'd rather be put through hell than run around looking like I'm holding a giant boner.
this is like a sport my friends would make when we are bored lmao
Probably yeah.
Looks like a pretty decent sport, and much better than many, many weird things already covered in the channel. Gotta love the heckling part of it.
Each to their own I guess.
Great video as always, thanks! I've watched most of your videos but I had to watch this one just for the title! This is the most convoluted game I've ever heard of... I'd say you're right, it's designed to suck!
Absolutely! Thanks man.
I’ve been inspired to make a sport that also pushes its players to the edge. As of now it’s just called Endurance. It takes place on a polo field and has 4 periods of 30 minutes. The center circle is a trampoline embedded in the ground. It is played with a rugby ball but hey, if you don’t have one of those you can always use a hockey puck. Basically the goal is to get the ball through the goal posts. Doing that is probably about 4 points or something. If anybody has some suggestions I’d like to hear them. This is meant to be a semi-serious sport.
Sounds kinda this Flickerball already!
I would suck at this game “ what the fuck kinda call was that ref” 2 penalties ejected
What about the rules of beer pong Ninh?
If I get enough demand for it, yeah.
Ninh Ly yes!
Next video: Ninh explains the rules of Calvinball.
Also, this video is hilarious, we need more videos like this one. Maybe a new series of "Ninh won't explain" where you cover ridiculous or nonsensical sports.
That's not a bad idea at all, but it'd be hard pressed to find a sport MORE stupid than this.
Up until the overly complicated rules, I was thinking this game seemed like something a summer camp counselor or elementary school PhysEd teacher would come up with.
Believe it or not, that's exactly what it is!
You can thank the 'geniuses' at Davidson College for this 'wonderful' delight.
You should make more of these its entertaining
Will do, thanks!
Love this type of video!! U should def make more
Thanks bro, much appreciated! Will do!
There's nothing difficult about these rules. It's basically handball with rugby style passing rules.
Yea I played this game a lot and it’s pretty simple. Really fun too
Our football coaches in middle school had us play a variation of this game. Coach Alford called it “Army Football” and it was fairly similar, except there was no hoops, we just used the end zones of our practice field for “touchdowns.” We always used a football, when your team had possession, you could throw it in any direction you wanted, and when caught you could run as much as you wanted until you were tagged. Brings back memories 😪
Ummm, cool. I didn't know that.
Poor man's quidditch
I'm not even sure it's that?!
The rules of motherf_ukerball is no Swearing
I like that.
Gotta live clean
I do like these kind of videos. Please do more (trying to) explaining the rules of ridiculous sports like this and Botaoshi!
I'm trying bro, but they take a while to make.
I'm confused, the rules don't actually seem *that* complicated (except with the regional variations noted but not really elaborated upon), but one of the main basic rules you did cover seemed to be that passes must be backwards or lateral -- *what explains all the forward passes that seem to be in the footage?* I played rugby through college and after, so I know how a ball can advance by running onto a lateral pass, even with just a few forward steps per touch, but some of the included footage just seems to have straight-up forward passes...? Enjoying this series of sports explained!
What can I say? I'm good at explaining things.
I think the bad thing about this sport is that it's not played consistently anywhere.
And thanks! I've run short of sports recently, but I'm working on a few!
@@NinhLyUK Am I seeing things, though, or are there a bunch of forward passes in the footage..?
Awesome video Ninh ... we need more calling out the horrible sports/games like this ... next do one on "The Game" ... which we all just lost by my own declaration of it's existence lol.
I'm not sure that would fly with the wider public, but yeah I can make more weird stuff like this.
Good series :)
But it would be useful if you could include an example of a common scoring; is it like basketball(85-91) or scores like in football(3-2), to get a general feel.
You can easily see that in the footage on the video. It doesn't really need to be explained.
@@NinhLyUK I guess I should have added that it would be decent addition in *general*.
I just left the comment on this video because it was the latest one.
Yes, please do more roasting of things in your videos. I love you “straight man” persona. It’s hilarious.
Not you. YOU’RE. oh man.
Sadly Andy, this is who I am in real life when I'm not trying to be professional about stuff. Just sarcasm coursing through my veins!
Ninh Ly it’s outstanding.
I watch this video just for the rule adjustments
" I shit you not "
Awesome every time
Thanks.
Just noticed swinging the tire is a foul. Is the whole tire thing really part of the rules or are those flavorful additions?
So this just ultimate football?
Kind of ... but very badly organised.
In America ( or at least in the public school system) we play a variation of this called speed ball on soccer fields. Same rules except we can kick the ball like soccer if we like at anytime and we score in end zones or a goal (depending on wether the scorer is kicking or passing/running. It’s a lot more boring than it sounds
I can actually believe that!
We play this at my High School for PE.
We use the Backboards of Basketball rims and make it that the glass is the only part where you can score, the outside edge does not count at all.
You can also air dribble, but it has to go over your head every dribble
And the best of all, the ball can be rebounded by any team, even if the ball is scored, so you can just go up, score, rebound, score again, and so on.
Needless to say, the worst of people come out in this game and its glorious.
Crazy, as some of the rules you described aren't mentioned in this video. Which further emphasises my point that it's not played consistently anywhere. Thanks for stopping by.
I love this, keep doing videos like this
Thanks Joe, much appreciated!
I'd thought I'd never say this about any sport but Flickerball needs more rules. Practical rules.
Agreed. And possibly a set of rules that everyone actually agrees on!
@@NinhLyUK ha ha! Yes! Sorry for the late reply!
This seems easier to play then quidditch. Please keep them coming Ninh
Probably physically easier. Mentally, not so sure.
Thanks bro, will do.
Yesssss nihn keep doing this
Will do.
Loved this type of video
Thanks bro. I'll try and make more.
Just the heckling part alone, should have made this popular in the UK
more like helling
Love this style of video Nihn! Keep it up.
Will do! Thanks.
Can you do match play and other styles of golf? It’s kinda hard to understand the first time reading about it.
Golf? Golf is mainly played by the same rules, but the format might be different. Match play is just different scoring but the game is still the same.
This style is awesome. I would love to see more videos like this.
Thanks bro, much appreciated.
I'll try and make more of this kind of content.
This video is funny. You should do more videos like these.
Thanks bro, will do!
Might be wrong but I do recall having to play this once at a Summer Camp here in Brazil. It didn't end well.
I can believe the part where you said it didn't end well!
Well, it *was* at a Brazilian Air Force camp... I might be wrong about the sport but it was just as backwards. Think halfway through it just devolved into football.
Probably a more sensible play!
if you could torture someone with a game of rugby this just hand them this version's rule book. you could hear the confusion in Ninh Ly's voice as he progresses through the video
Before Flickerball, we used to play ultimate frisbee down at Maxwell. Good old mandatory fun.
Ultimate Frisbee is at least fun and organised. ruclips.net/video/UnNUEvs2Ev0/видео.html&vl
Haha at least it's supposed to be. We made it not fun with the addition of a penalty box, where if you committed a foul--to include the dumb ones in flickerball--you would "report in" to the penalty box to do calisthenics until your team's captain emptied the box. If you want to know more about dumb ultimate and dumb volleyball here's a link to the AFROTC Field training manual pg. 121-128. www.citadel.edu/root/images/airforce/2013_afrotc_field_training_manual.pdf
Wow, that's actually a thing.
Thank you Ninh my prayers have been answered
Thanks Javon, much appreciated!
I'd love to see what you'd do to Calvinball.
If I knew what the rules were, yeah.
Looks like a fun picnic game!
Each to their own I guess.
What are you talking!! This is the best game ever
I'm leaving cricket and football right now. This is 'the game'
I played this in Middle school and it was pretty fun. We had hoola hoops hung on the neck of the basketball goal and we couldn’t shoot in the paint
I've played something like except we can throw it forward and we actually use a end zone, and it's 3v3
It probably was flickerball in some form or another. It doesn't have common rules, one of the main grips I had with the sports.
*Adds this video to Important Videos playlist*
Thanks bro, much appreciated!
Ninh, I hate to tell you this, but this game reminds me of the notorious sport of - are you ready for this - Calvinball!
The difference is Calvinball doesn't exist. This sadly does.
Can you explain the 'Rules of Croquet' please?
I'll consider it.
Rules of disc golf. It's getting very popular
You mean this one? ruclips.net/video/hfHnT1HilMM/видео.html
😂 Might be a shit stupid game, but the video itself was one of the best of yours, Ninh! 😆 Very funny!
I appreciate that bro! Thanks for the comment!
You should do a video on angleball.
I've never heard or it.
I’ve grown up playing this game but we don’t play with plywood we play with end zones like football and get rid of the “free throw lane” rule and it’s super fun. Not sure why you make it seem likes it’s a super weird hard game cause it’s really easy and fun! Think of it like ultimate frisbee but with a football or other ball and it’s way easier
My main gripe with this sport (as you've just pointed out) is that there are no consistent rules anywhere.
Yes, you may play with rules that are super easy and fun ... but go to the next state up and they might play with completely different rules.
Please rip on more sports Ninh. That was lovely.
Thanks bro.
I like this a lot. Going in depth into stupidly shitty sports is more entertaining than i thought
That's the only one I've felt to take the rip out of so far.
Love his content
Actually loved the roast. Keep it up!
Thanks!
Really enjoyed the video
Thanks Ben, much appreciated!
Flickerball looks like some cheap game someone created on the set of a SciFi show, just to have something that looked like "futuristic football." But without the crazy glowing costumes and lasers to make it halfway interesting.
Pretty much.
Would love to see you do a video on the "sport" of fowling (long "O", as it's bowling with an American football). Starting to become a popular drinking/bar game in the US Midwest.
I've honestly never heard of that one?!
@@NinhLyUK I haven't played it, but a coworker did it during his bachelor party. There are a few bars focused on it (fowlingwarehouse.com is the site of one chain of such bars, and charges US$120 per 2 hours to reserve a lane), and it seems to be gaining traction, after originally being invented as a tailgating game. Looks like the "official" website is fowling.org .
Huh, cool!
Gonna play this with a few buds
we'll use two sliotars attached by a loose chain and the pitch will be the size of the local horseracing course
Neat format!!!

Use the magic socks!!!
This actually doesn't sound too much different from Ultimate Frisbee, a game I have played before. I don't know if there are any set regulations about the number of players or the size of the field for that sport either.
If I were to accurately sum up this sport in one sentence, I'd call it a cross between basketball and Ultimate Frisbee.
I'm not sure that's right. Besides, this is just one interpretation of the rules ... many people play by different rules.
The name flickerball. The capital L and the capital I together to make what looks like a capital U. was that intentional?
Hahahahahah chirping is encouraged that is so fucking sick,I lowkey wanna play it just to roast dudes on the sideline.
Yeah I was surprised that you can chirp the hell out of the players to try and make them retaliate. Probably one of the cooler parts of the game. I think you could probably do a lot better than the dude in the video.
I love this! 😂😂😂😂😂😂
Thanks bro.
Yes
Indeed.
What? I love playing it! There are two main versions and they do have specific field dimensions, field markings, goal dimensions, number of player, number of referees, etc. The one designed to teach/evaluate cadets (United States Air Force Academy) or students (at some schools and universities) and the one with greatly reduced/simplified set of rules played for fun... yes, fun. Matches among friends can be played on a field of any size with whatever number of players, that can be said of any non-official match of any sport. I think that your evaluation is from a misinformed stand point.
I don't believe I'm misinformed, the angle I chose to cover was the fact that the rules are not played the same in any part of the country.
Ninh Ly - You are incorrect. The School Districts where schools have flickerball teams, do have the same set of rules because the schools may play against each other; that is also the case with universities; even if they are located across the country. However, the fact is that flickerball is used almost exclusively as a tool for academic and fitness purposes and not as a proper sport. You are portraying this (in an amusing way I may add) as if when a match happens, one team is playing with one set of rules and the other team is playing with a different set of rules, chaos ensues, no one knows what is going on... that is not the case. I predict that if you play flickerball (the simplified rules version), you may like it.
This video was awesome
Thanks bro, much appreciated. I'll try and make more like this.
Ninh Ly Good to hear bro
Our school played a different version of this game and I thought it was fun
Each to their own I guess?!
PLEASE DO CALVINBALL NEXT. I would LOVE to hear you "Rip the crap out of stuff" more!
But it's not real?!
I don't have video footage of a fictional game that no-one has ever played!
