    I have been watching this sport on the 2022 Winter Olympics. I have never been interested but after a while I started asking questions that no one could answer. Thank you for this video. It has helped me appreciate the skill required in this sport.

      It's usually a lot of fun, whether you are winning or losing - at the level i play at, anyway. For professional curlers, it's more passion than fun, I think (just my guess). Besides, playing in a mixed league has always been a great way to meet some pretty women :-)

    I'm a new wheelchair curler and this was really helpful- even if WE do it without needing any sweeping 😉 We don't talk a lot about rules and that at practice and ours are a bit different than yours, but with my first provincial throw down coming up, this will help! Too bad we don't have one... yet.... (it would be fun and an interesting project!)- just sayin'.😆 Anyways, thank you for making this!!

    Nice video. Most stones are actually 42 pounds, but must be between 38 and 44 pounds, due to the variations in granite. Most of the granite comes from Ailsa Craig, an island off the coast of Scotland. Thanks again for the video.

    They are holding a tournament in my hometown this weekend, and national trials for the Olympics in November, so we went to watch a few matches. Most of the rules are kind of self evident, as is the scoring, but I didn't know what the timers were for, or if there was a penalty for touching a stone while sweeping. Thanks for the clear explanations.

    COOL, thank you. So the rings of the "house" are basically to show the distance from the "button". Unlike shuffle board or archery, there is no point difference based on which ring the stone comes to rest in.

      Correct! The rings are there to judge the distance from the middle of the button - they don't award different levels of points. Glad this helps you understand Curling!

    I was hooked on curling ever since I first saw it as a middle-schooler. We bought the table top stones, and used rocks to play outside. Only in my adulthood was I able to play for real. It's such a joy to watch and play. And I appreciate the camaraderie and sportsmanship--something that's not evident in a number of mainstream sports.

      There is evidence of curling roots in Germany prior to its beginning in Scotland. Scotland does get credit for getting it going and creating the rules of the game.
      I'm thinking Bradley is one of those Canadians who watches the Scotties and Brier, but has never curled himself.

      The 5th player very rarely actually enters any games however they are allowed to replace anyone at the end of any end. They often end up reading each of the rocks on the ice as no two rocks will act exactly the same.

      a k Falling on the ice. It doesn't always result in injury, but if you fall in front of a moving rock or onto a rock, then it can cause problems.

      The only curling injuries I've ever seen have been a result of falling on a rock or falling and hitting their head on the boards. Or do what I did when I was 5 and get your thumb crushed between a rock and the boards :(

      If you've ever watched olympic-level table tennis (or badminton--!!), you wouldn't ask that again. 99.9% of us would be run *ragged* in two minutes. Not to mention topspin, backspin...

      mescko Exactly. It requires physical effort and is highly competitive. The same could be said for curling. While curling doesn't require nearly as much physical effort as other sports, sweeping can actually be draining.

      Curling is far from being the most ridiculous sport at an Olympic tournament.
      Table tennis, poodle shearing, mountaineering, walking, poetry, painting, chess and body building, et cetera. Don't even get me started with these childish runs they keep inventing for snowboarders every 'Games.
