Gosh I miss the old days. Not a care in the world. Just a kid having fun. Nothing affected me. The news was real news, not all the garbage we have today. So simple yet to the point and seemed like it was more like a documentary.
Whenever I miss my grandparents and the people who are no longer I listen to the commercials in the TV broadcast. And for some reason Chantilly perfume and loves baby soft and sweet honesty brings back so many memories I go back in time. And I used to listen to CBS radio mystery theater with the actual news in commercials. I'm glad in heaven I will see my loved ones that were saved by grace and the world of their will never ever end.
Good to see Chip Moody healthy. I remember how sick he use to look all the time before he died. I knew Harold Taft real well. My mom was best friends with Pat Taft since I was a kid, use to have a lot of cookouts with the folks. Thanks for the blast from the past!
Finally!!! A Dallas-Fort Worth newscast from the 70s. Now that I saw KXAS, I wonder if you have any newscast from KDFW and WFAA? That ACTION NEWS is a classic!!!
RE: The Balch Springs Animal Shelter story, starts about the 10:00 mark... The lady mentioned in the story who took over the shelter-Vicky Smith, stayed in that job for 20 years. I was lucky enough to be an animal control officer with her from 96-99, her last 3 years. Balch Springs history reflects, and will reflect going forward, that she really turned that department around. She was good people, and I learned a lot working alongside her. She was a tough New Jersey chick, and she didn't take no guff. 😁
Harold Taft was the most accurate weatherman there ever was. It was he who still insisted on drawing his own weather maps. He studied weather and knew it. What they have today that they call meteorologists can be done by anyone ... they just simply have to read the teleprompters. That's if they can even do that. Times have really changed. People actually did their back then...today they depend on computers, or other people, to do their work.
CrazyWedz .. Nothing I said implies I'm living in the past. Taft was more accurate with his forecasts than the weathermen and any smartphone app of today.
I was 24 recovering from a divorce, loss of home and family, alcohol and drug withdrawals. I made it. Got sober and vividly remember watching the USA ice hockey team beat the Soviet Union and win the gold a few months later in February 1980.
Hollywood Henderson was actually right about that game. They were also not the same club without him. Unfortunately, he wasn't the same without them either.
How did it get so late so soon ? It's night before it's afternoon. It's December before it's June. My my how the time does Zoom. How did it get so late so soon ?
1979. My dad was in the service for a year, stationed at Loring Air Force Base in Loring, ME. It was a very stressful time in his life, knowing that the Middle East was a dumpster fire and Jimmy Carter not being a very good commander-in-chief.
Ken Burrough said: "Normally, we don't play Dallas during the regular season". Dallas is NFC, Houston was AFL/AFC. The Oilers never played in a Superbowl, so, they ONLY ever played during the regular season, Ken.
I think what Burrough meant was that the way the schedule rotated, the Oilers (then in the AFC Central) would face the Cowboys (NFC East) only once per 3 seasons at that time (they did play each other at least once in the pre-season for bragging rights).
That poor dog he was taking outside the black one that was screaming. Hate to see that even though it was 42 years ago. Hate places like that. Please adopt don't shop so less animals end up having to be put down. They all deserve a family to love and be loved by.
Al Hamm's "Move Closer To Your World" was the GO TO theme music for local TV news at stations all over The country at the time. WPIX NY-11 used it for years.
Why did Moody move from Channel 5 to 4 within months??? Clearly he moved a channel down not up and this set for 1979 is everything. ...not shabby set and it good see DFW station with action news branding or eyewitness news branding.
+thetvzone Chip Moody couldn't stand the "Action News" title. He felt it was more suited to smaller markets Amarillo or Abilene than DFW. There were a lot of management changes at Channel 5 that Chip didn't agree with; so he left 5 for 4.
+lakebay972 WOW! That is interesting to know. I wonder did he know big markets like Philadelphia, Detroit, Atlanta, even Baltimore had "Action News branding"? I read that when he went over to 4 the ratings soared over there where 4 & 8 were in a deadlock battle for #1. Then Chip Moody ended up at the big Channel 8/WFAA years down the road. He an icon in DFW market working at all three stations there. very interesting!
I remember the Fuji film was very popular at this time. However, looking through old photo albums, I can pick out which photos were taken with Fuji film - they are all terribly washed out, and have a red-orange tint to them. They just didn't hold up well over time.

I had just turned 2 years old
& My Little sister was just over a month.
She passed on away in 97'
so hilarious. i was 4 years old and probably watched this broadcast. although i'd never remember it.
Finally!!! A Dallas-Fort Worth newscast from the 70s. Now that I saw KXAS, I wonder if you have any newscast from KDFW and WFAA? That ACTION NEWS is a classic!!!
RIP Chip Moody (1947-2001)
RIP Harold Taft (1922-1991)

I can look at my smartphone and find everything I need to know about the weather. Why would an old dude drawing his maps be better?
CrazyWedz ...You don't understand. Harold Taft was long before smartphones and especially you. I don't think you could function without a smartphone.
werksdesign
Taft's been dead long enough. Time to stop living in the past.
CrazyWedz .. Nothing I said implies I'm living in the past. Taft was more accurate with his forecasts than the weathermen and any smartphone app of today.

If you say so. By the way, you related to him or something?
An "Action News" intro worthy of Philly and WPVI.
This was the day after my 1st birthday 🎂
This was the day and year I was born and I can't believe that weather man had to draw and paint his forecasts
Wow.. those three lead stories could just as easily be on a newscast tonight ...
Wow. An add about erlanger. Who remembers erlanger? Only around for a couple years, never had it but people liked it
I was 24 recovering from a divorce, loss of home and family, alcohol and drug withdrawals. I made it. Got sober and vividly remember watching the USA ice hockey team beat the Soviet Union and win the gold a few months later in February 1980.
Looking for commercials in old news archives. History always repeats itself maybe we can catch it before it happens.
Real classy, and facts.🧐💪💯
Classier than the political outrage that today's "news" channels deal in unsparingly (FOX "News" being the worst, IMO).
Every time there's a video with MCTYW, there's gonna be a comment mentioning WPVI-TV
I remember those analogs dials, on the wall as a kid. I was 7 in 1979.
Hollywood Henderson was actually right about that game. They were also not the same club without him. Unfortunately, he wasn't the same without them either.
Cocaines a helluva drug
No bias back in the day
nice footage
That drawing looks more like Ted Kennedy than Jimmy Carter.....LOL
Love the artwork
3:38 that's the funniest thing I've seen on u-tube in ages
Really?
How did it get so late so soon ? It's night before it's afternoon. It's December before it's June. My my how the time does Zoom. How did it get so late so soon ?
WHAS 11 in Louisville, KY had the same musical intro during this time period

10 million per day!
Nowadays theres around 16 million photos taken every 5 minutes!!
02:01, besides WPVI and formerly KXAS, what other affiliated stations had this news theme?
RIP Chip Moody and Harold Taft.
I didn't know Tom Cruise reported from Dealey plaza
Time flies.
@radiodj1520 That was Gene Stallings when they say "The Coaches", right?
And ad about the movie Apocalypse Now in theaters!
Interesting on that Cowboys show promo to see NBC's trapezoidal N alongside the promo font that NBC would use with its next logo, the Proud N.
@Anthonygestone Harold Taft was one of the first TV weathermen.
They duplicated the WPVI Action News intro along with Move Closer to Your World. BTW, Lona Miller from the commercial looked very hot.
Harold Taft ❤️❤️❤️❤️
I found several year books that chip is in

Not in that form. It was when that team moved to Tennessee that they'd seen a Super Bowl.
That poor dog he was taking outside the black one that was screaming. Hate to see that even though it was 42 years ago. Hate places like that. Please adopt don't shop so less animals end up having to be put down. They all deserve a family to love and be loved by.
Chip.Moody left us way to soon
Howard Taft great memories
good old days
Screaming Maaaslams in Pak-eee=stan.
Wow. Just wow.
Did they use WKBW's theme? It sounds like WKBW's theme was used here.
John Lee, also WPVI from my area
GH32143
Oh, Action News.
How do know KXAS didn't have it first?
Al Hamm's "Move Closer To Your World" was the GO TO theme music for local TV news at stations all over The country at the time. WPIX NY-11 used it for years.
I Dallas Texas
sketches? they used sketches? now that is truly funny.
Within less than six months, Moody would move up one channel to KDFW.
Wouldn't that be down one channel - from 5 to 4?
Why did Moody move from Channel 5 to 4 within months???
Clearly he moved a channel down not up and this set for 1979 is everything. ...not shabby set and it good see DFW station with action news branding or eyewitness news branding.

i love how he said Packeystan🤣
At 2:15, that skateboarder goes up on the ramp and bout to fall off. That was funny. lol
Ron Burgundy does the Sports in DFW!

That would be a printing problem.
I've found that Kodak film fades to red-orange and Fuji fades to green.
Houston Oilers won 30-24...
Hindsight is 20/20, Isnt it?
@Anthonygestone Ha! Yeah, back in the old days.
hollywood henderson. holy shit.
And Hollywood Henderson was right. The Cowboys lost to the Oilers, 30-24.
Chip moody news man
President Carter lol
but, what is this "film" stuff they speak of ?
In This Clip, From 0:00 To 0:27, It Was KXAS-TV's Channel 5 Action News Tonight Video Promo For Wednesday Night, November 21, 1979.
@mrtee83 Nothing more than that, sorry. It was a fluke that one got preserved.
In This Clip, From 29:17 To 29:30, It Was KXAS-TV's Channel 5 Action News Tonight Video Close From Wednesday Night, November 21, 1979.
@CausalObserver74 Dude, educate yourself: Look up "1979 embassy burning in Islamabad" in Wikipedia.

In This Clip, From 31:02 To 31:06, It Was KXAS-TV's A Pre-Game Sports Special Video ID For Late Thursday Afternoon, November 22, 1979.
3:48 president Carter, shown here wearing his Ted Kennedy sleeping mask.
Hostages and marine killed and no response. Carter was a disaster
WPVI much?
Why are U.S. soldiers in Pakistan in the first place? How would you feel if Pakistani soldiers were walking around the U.S.?
george bush gives off a bad vibe!!
That Bush......what a disaster.
The Embassy Attacked story and it's illustrations sounds like bullshit!!
anyone else have an objective view of history? whenever we have had weak incompetent leaders, the entire world ends up in turmoil and conflict?
